You just cant come over and put an end to someone's honest living, because of a flimsy environment in beautifying the environment. It is unfair, period!. One governor demolished Maroko, probably in the name of beautifying the environment, displaced a lot of people, and what happened in the end? Those land, from what I heard now belongs to some military rulers. Even in America, there are slums where people live in. In an ideal world, slums wont exist, but in Nigeria, there are far pressing issues like combatting crimes, which should be more of a priority than beautifying the environment. |
Deprive people of their livelihood? I dont think so. Unless the government of Lagos can offer stalls to accomodate the side traders, then they cant demolish open air stalls. Chei, people are eking out a living via honest means, and the govt are pursuing them. Let them focus their attention on robbers. |
Where is it in the Holy Bible that can back up your claim@palemoon? |
A relationship with God A peaceful, happy and comfortable life. No pretensions. No gimmicks. Surrounded by my family. An opportunity to serve the underprivileged in the society. That's all, folks. Too much money dey carry wahala itself. |
I am all ears too. |
statistics/discourse is questionable. How can you vouch for the veracity of this report? |
@palemoon. Where in the New Testament is it written that Moses entered the promised land during the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ? |
Whether it was a setup or not, what that woman, Patricia Etteh did was wrong and she should be jailed, along with her accomplice. Lets quit making her a scape goat of other politicans who have gotten away with it. Prior to this scandal, nobody was implicated in a renovation scandal (or even flying out to America for a birthday celebration), so, Patricia Etteh should be sacked and jailed. |
Naijadiva, if your story about hearing a woman finding a thumb in her soup is about an incident that happened a while back in Northern California, dont be fazed by it. One lady, who sort of made it a habit in suing small businesses was thrust into the public light when she claimed she found a thumb in her soup at Wendys. The case took an awry turn when it was found out, after investigation that she had gotten the thumb from her husband, whose co-worker, who had earlier lost a bet to him (?) had turned in his thumb, that he had cut in a factory mishap as payment for that debt. She got that thumb, cooked it, and went to wendys and dropped it in her soup, then raised an alarm. After much investigation, she was taken to court and jailed. But sadly Wendys lost over 2 million dollars as some customers boycotted the franchise where the incident took place. Just go to wikipedia, type in "Anna Ayala" and you will get the full gist. |
Oladeegbu, thanks for the information/explanation on the Genealogy of Jesus Christ, traced through Joseph and Mary. About the immaculate conception, Catholics, I think have always defined it to mean that Mary was conceived without sin. I knew that is not true, but your explanation about the Power of the Holy Spirit overshadowing Mary during her pregnancy to stop the transmission of her sins to His Only Begotten Son, I believe that to be true. God is Wonderful and Loving, that He took all these measures to save me a worthless sinner. Lets all adore Him with the full measure of our hearts, Amen. |
I am an optimist, but sometimes, you have to realize that certain things are not just realistic. A United states of Africa, I doubt would work, because of tribal warfare going on in Africa. Moreso, we are compounded with problems of sittight leaders, like Mugabe, Museveni, Compaore, including Gadaffi, so how will the issue of leadership be resolved on who should take over the reins of the organization. I mean, look at this scenario, if one is incapable of ruling their country efficiently, how can you mandate them to rule over a complex continent as Africa? And even if they are capable, what about power play, will they be willing to step down when their time is up? Lets dream small, lets focus on internal problems before being taking up loads of problems externally that would leave us weak to deal with our problems. Nice idea though! |
wao@ibrahim. Hunger can make one do strange things. |
The conception of Jesus Christ was achieved by Divine Intervention, through the Holy Spirit. His step-father, Joseph descended from the genealogy of David, likewise His mum, Mary. So, either way, Jesus Christ in His earthly life is a descendant of David. Please note there is a difference between immaculate conception, which actually means the conception of Mary in her mother's womb and the Virginal Conception, which pertains to the Birth of Jesus Christ by a virgin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immaculate_Conception |
satan is the accuser of human beings. Fortunately for us, the Blood of Jesus Christ has Redeemed us from his malicious antics to keep us in bondage in eternity. I give Praises to Jesus Christ for His Merciful Kindness in Redeeming me from the bondage of satan, Amen. |
If she is a Christian, she shouldnt live in a polygamous home. |
Advice your friend to take her husband to the doctor to check if he has sleep apnea. |
No. 6 is not applicable at a Nigerian party. I mean why hire a bouncer when our people are known for hospitality? It is only in African American parties that I heard bouncers are stationed at the fridge. Ituen, abadie? |
Akanimo. Greater than wealth. |
I dont think it is ridiculous to trace your genealogy through your ancestors. Or you might as well discard your last name to maintain your single identity. A tree just cant sprout up without the roots, hence one's heritage should be traced through their ancestors to maintain their genealogy. You just cant, like the Americans say, "My parents are from Texas, but I am from Florida". Theirs is different, each on their own. Africans are different, we have that sense of community, handed down to us by our ancestors. I am all for it. Otherwise, I would not have picked Nigeria as my country of origin. |
My parents hailed from Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state. My birthplace is Washington D.C, so I classify myself as a Nigerian-American. But overall, I see myself more of a Nigerian than American. |
It has no relevance to it, except to add that bad news travel fast. CNN aired a scathing documentary of Nigerian swindlers some months back, and now, with this airing of the disgraceful montage, has only dealt an international blow to the image of Nigeria. Even if it was ignored by the foreign media, Patricia Etteh should be jailed! |
A montage of the disgraceful fight between some of the politicians in Nigeria have been aired in a local TV station in America. That woman, Patricia Etteh should not only be impeached, but in addition to that, face jail sentence. Greed which is the bane of our society is way too much for one to comprehend. |
Give a dog a bad name and hang it. |
Olaadegbu, did you read the link that I posted, which I culled from the internet about Elijah? |
Hmmm, @iyaegin. Food for thought! |
Back in the days, Newswatch had no serious contender in the Nigerian publishing house, when it pertained to hard news. A favorite news publication in Nigeria, its popularity penetrated into various class in the society. When one of its founding editors, Dele Giwa was murdered, there was a public outcry from this senseless tragedy. And from there, people assumed that Newswatch was gradually descending into a government's mouthpiece. Several of its high ranking editors jumped ship and started a new publication, called Tell Magazine. One of their slogans, "Others watch the News, we Tell it", was misconstrued by some to be an indirect aim at their former company, which compelled Ray Ekpu to inquire, how one could tell the news without watching it". Tell gained popularity and was an achilles heel in the regime of IBB. So ferocious was their attack, that even after being proscribed by the regime at one point, they went underground, publishing incideniary articles about the government. While Newswatch was seen as a moderate, able to balance the news fairly, others condemned their news practise as a sell out to the IBB government. And Tell Magazine waxed stronger and stronger, that at one point its going rate was about 200 Naira. But others have accused Tell magazine of sensationalism. Irrespective of that, it is still, (I'd like to think) flourishing in the Nigerian society. Others have made an appearance like the News magazine. Man pickin left the shores of Nigeria a while back, and though Stanford usually get free copies of some Nigerian periodicals, I have been unable to drive down there to read them. So, for those of you back home, which Nigerian newsmagazine is regarded as a favorite in Nigeria? Could it be Tell or Newswatch? |
Why wont they fall sick when they are humans? Or are you trying to be sarcastic? |
Please pray to God to lead you away from temptation. God surely opens doors of opportunities to His children who trust in Him. It may be a test of faith, and please, dont fall into this bait. |
A dead fly in my soup. this was years back in boarding house. |
Well, the pharisees challenged Jesus Christ for His performance of miracles on Sabbath day, stating that it was a day set aside for rest. Now, I have shown you the Biblical verse (Col 2:14-16) which talks about the irrelevancy of the Sabbath day, and you are still harping on it. Tell me, if the Holy Bible does not judge me for not keeping the Sabbath, then, nobody can judge us non-sabbatarians. |
