I gotta admit I was an artful dodger in school too. Chei, once, one senior student assembled some of us junior students to fetch water for him. My school did not have steady water supply, and our resort was to go to the stream. I did not, neither did my friend, and some junior student did not follow through his rules. At night, the guy, we called him Pentona walked into the Chapel for the service, and started pulling out the junior students one by one. Then, he came to our part, and I told my friend to bend his head low, and we would, to avoid being recognized. The guy went on ranting and threatening to deal with those 2 other students (I am pretty sure he was referring to us) who had disobeyed him. He searched for us in the Chapel all to no avail. He finally gave up Another time. In my ss1, I missed the morning services, and I was written up. Then, some of my classmates, who had just been named prefects came to the dorms, with their counterparts, . . . girls, to write up students who had skipped morning service. I stepped out of my dorm, saw them, and was written up again. Hence, I was gonna be whupped publicly in the Chapel. Around that day, or so, some of my female classmates told me that my name was among those called out. The erring students (that morning) were whupped in the Chapel. So, the following day, I packed myself up with sheets, to counter the effects of the cane. I went to the Chapel, and was ready that day, but fortunately, the whole case was dismissed. |
@DreamNaira, so, if you were around when Jesus Christ performed Miracles on the Sabbath day, what would have been your reaction? Read this Chapter. Matthew 12: 1-21. Bless you. |
Hmmm, that story about de lawrence, I have heard of it, but I refuse to believe it, because I dont think there is any evil power that can resurrect a man from the dead. About Moses, the man died, and went to Abraham's bosom. You gotta realize the saying of Jesus Christ can never be contradictory. He said that No man has ever ascended into Heaven before, so, if so, then no man has, be it Moses, Elijah or Enoch. Perhaps, they were transplanted to a different part of the earth of Heaven, but certainly not the Holy Place of God. Maybe now, but prior to the declaration of Jesus Christ, No! |
This is one of the reasons why I have advised folks not to dwell on the identity of the two witnesses, but then again, I hope this will help dispel the belief that these two folks are in heaven. This might be very long but I will try to shorten it. Jesus Christ said that No man has ever ascended into Heaven, and His Words are True!. Now, Elijah and Moses lived prior to the earthly life of Jesus Christ, and while the Holy Bible talks of Elijah and the chariots, the truth is that he did not go to the Heavenly Throne where God dwells. If he did, then that would be contradicting the Statement of Jesus Christ. Now, if I am not mistaken, there are three levels in Heaven, the Third being the real Heavens. (Like I said, I am not that knowledgeable in Biblical studies, so may God forgive me if I am wrong). Even Paul speaks of the Third Heaven in the New Testament. So that said, please lets have this belief that prior to birth and death of Jesus Christ, nobody ever ascended into Heaven. It may have been that Enoch and the rest of them all went to Abraham's bosom, including Elijah. Moreso, how can one explain a letter, purported to be written by Elijah to one of the leaders in the Old Testament after he left the earth? |
Dreamnaira, are you affiliated with seven day adventist? Abeg, dont misconstrue Biblical verses for your organizations/personal gain. If the Holy Bible has clearly stated that we cant be judged on the days we choose to worship God, then, you dont have any legal right to judge we, who worship on Sunday. The most important message is that Jesus Christ came to die for all of us, for our eternal salvation, so worshipping God either on Sunday or Saturday is irrelevant. I have noticed that the religious body that attempts to affirm, or even suggest that the Sabbath is the right day of worship, are typically those who are at loggerheads with the Roman Catholic Church. While I dont agree with some of their beliefs, then again, for worshipping on Sunday however is not wrong. I browsed through one site that stipulates that the Sabbath day is the only prescribed day of Worshipping God, and they listed the reasons. Though I have to admit that I did a cursory glance at those reasons, there was no mention of the Biblical Verse that I cited that has refused to condemn non adherents of the Sabbath day as the rightful day of Worshipping the Supreme Being. Lets pray to God to open our eyes and direct us in His Paths, which can only be accomplished in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen |
And would you believe that Bush named Nigeria as one of the drug havens in the world? Chei, see hypocrisy. Like ignoring the weeds in your front yard to take care of your neighbor's backyard. In high school, doing drugs was not rampant, whereas in the USA, drugs and high school kids are almost synomynous with each other. |
Metropolitan Hotel, during my stay in Calabar was perhaps, the poshest hotel in the city, a reputation it has lived upto, based on what I have read in African travel magazines. However, there is another hotel, owned by a relative of Duke, as I understand. The name is Mirage, and is another popular hotel. Check them out. |
Racism is America's achilles heel that has dogged it, even with the ushering of a new century filled with new ideas and technologies. |
Has the Holy Bible revealed the identity of these Two Witnesses? If not, why do some of us assume that Elijah and Moses or Enoch are the two witnesses? |
God never fails, even when we doubt in Him. Glory unto His Holy Name in the Highest!, Amen. |
Why is a cake needed at a traditional marriage? In as much as I totally abhor and condemn any ritual that does not give Glory to God, like libation, and sacrifices which are common in some traditional areas, I think incorporating the western culture, like cutting a cake should not be accepted. But that is my view. |
Macdonalds is not needed in Nigeria. Lets try to market our indigenous food to the world. I think our ethnic dishes can compete with other cuisines on the global scale. |
Col. 2: 16-17 should be read by all who condemn religious worships outside the Sabbath day. |
American legal system is almost as flawed as Nigeria's. Case in point, Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton are 2 of the examples of celebrity, receiving favorable treatment by the law. |
I wonder@laudette, the guy is just contradicting himself. Maybe in his views, a widow's entitlement to her husband's estate should be dictated by the length of their married life together. |
I overheard one of my classmates aborted decision to raid a provision store owned by one of the employees of my secondary school. The deal was that they would steal the money from the provision store with the cooperation of the store keeper, and then, stab him, in an attempt to 'exonerate' him from foul play. They did not go through with their plan. |
Jakumo, are you being sarcastic? @the poster. also visit Italy for your honeymoon. |
Such stupendous/monumental decadence in the midst of squalor. Sha, God dey! |
Though I did not partake in this particular defamation, but a girl, just one class behind me was rumored to have had an abortion. When school resumed, some of the walls were defaced with stories like . . . abortion is a crime, Stop it!. Ok, I have to admit that I used to deface my school's walls with nasty stories bordering on people's reputation. I have changed now! |
I once slept under the bed as punishment from a senior student. True, life moves on, but those days were quite frustrating, I mean the punishment. One of my roommates took it very hard and threatened revenge sometimes when he was punished. Na one of these ajebutter guys, who would imagine that revenge would occur in one form or the other. I spoke with him over the weekend, the guy works for Mobil, and he was just asking me if I knew of one guy in another house, who was very mean to students. He could not recall the guy's name, but he described his looks, which I kind of suspect maybe one that I know. He told me that the guy is in a subordinate role in his company, and that when he saw him, he was quite shaken. My former roommate did not confront him though, but just let things slide. When he brought it up, I just know we should brush past those injustices. More or less, as much as they were unfair and borderline wicked, dont dwell on such things anymore. |
Wham, at least, lets thank the white man for bringing us Christianity to destroy the traditional bondage that had oppressed us for so many years. Like the killing of twins, which was eradicated by Mary Slessor. Tell me, why would we still fault the white man for bringing in colonialism when we were in perpetual bondage? |
"Reverend and his blasphemies again!. |
Thanks@trueBrit. The literary field in Nigeria is undergoing (should I say) a second renaissance, again. More grease to their elbows. |
Is this from the same author whose book is "The (Airegin?) Dream? I mean, it was spelled backwards from Nigeria |
Being excluded in Forbes magazine is not a yardstick in ascertaining someone's wealth. Or why arent the names of corrupt leaders of our country, who stole billions of dollars missing from the list? Would you honestly say that because Forbes has declared Oprah the richest black woman in the world, then that is true, and that she is richer than the likes of some former first ladies in Africa, whose source of wealth were acquired in an ill-gotten manner? |
Tokorie, why do people attempt to ascertain people's wealth via their inclusion on Forbes List? From my understanding, the list, is reserved for those, whose wealth is unquestionable, so, while there may be some of our ex-leaders richer than Oprah, the fact remains that they wont be included on Forbes List. Besides that, and not that I am condoning corruption, but why do we, blacks have to look upto Forbes/any western periodical to measure one's financial worth? |
Sorry for derailing the thread. @My2cents. Heard of the controversy surrounding Attah's presence at the convention. I would have to say that the man has bitten off what he can chew. The projects that he initiated back home, while notable are yet to be completed. A friend who got a job at the airport in okobo, might be coming to the USA for training. I keep hearing conflicting views about Attah. What happened to the Electric transformer that was supposed to generate electricity back home regularly? No matter what, Attah should be commended for his vision in establishing it in the state. |
Even as a Nigerian, some of this stories are earth shattering. Londoner, the one wey happen to you friend for London, I read a similar story in one of the tabloids back home, I think it was either prime people or vintage people. A girl went to their house, and deposited her mother's belongings to these 419 people. I think she was bewitched or so, and upon recovery, came to her senses. She wrote that her mother was relieved that her life was spared. For me, I have never fallen prey to the wiles of these 419 people I have heard of their stories, to the extent of watching them advertise their sordid activities on Television, but I am so fortunate that I have not been tricked by any of them. When I am in Nigeria, I dress casually, avoid fanfare, and publicity that might attract them to me. And, this is coming from a guy who is very sociable. The thought of being duped, however does not register on my mind when I am in Nigeria though. My brother fell victim to one of them. He had arrived from the USA and on his trip to Calabar to visit relatives, his money vanished. He had no money left, that when he waved a cyclist to pick him up, he was hoping that the man would not demand for money upfront before alighting. When the cyclist dropped him at my uncle's house, fortunately for him, my cousin was home, and my brother alighted from the machine, explained his misfortune to my cousin, and she paid for the fare. It would have been so embarassing for him, if there was nobody home. |
Da, ama aka mbono Akwa Ibom ke North Carolina? Ebo ke Attah mmo ake ba do@my2cents. |
Still defeats the purpose of getting married. Love should be the sole criteria before getting married. Looks and riches, while a factor are poor excuses in getting married. |
