I've tried to engage them on this site before, but they simply slipped away like eels. It is okay not to engage Igbo, but they should stop insulting us for being at peace with them. They would not like a hostile neighbor in Igboland 'cos a lot of our people are waiting for a slight reason to avenge their treachery.
You are a disgrace to Ndigbo and you continue to devalue Igbos on this forum. What treachery are you talking about and threatening to avenge? Have you avenged the lesson that Fulani herdsmen taught you recently, much more a non existent treachery you allege? SMH

My own view is that, To Keep Nigeria One Is A Task That Must Be Done!

Any one with the delusional view that there will be a separate nation carved out of Southern Nigeria must be foolish and shortsighted. Only one Nigeria will keep southerners, Ijaws, Benin people, Ndigbo, etc etc ati be be lo, from annihilating each other in the event of a break up of this great country. SMH

That dude is gonna end up in either PDP or LP, he doesn't need to hang out with ne'er do wells like the frog-like thief, Tinubu and the delusional Aregbesola.
Fashola is joined to Tinubu and his gang at the hips - he is not going anywhere. Ever before Fashola became Governor, he and several other ACN politicians have been going to Dubai yearly for lesser Hajj and creating 'unbreakeable' bonds. These bonds are held tightly by shared religion and 'who knows what else'. I saw and heard Tinubu in Dubai introduce Fashola as the next governor of Lagos many years ago. They will do Fashola in if he abandons them.

I actually feel sorry for Fashola because he cannot reach his political potential as long as Tinubu is on the scene.

Murtala's face is already on the naira, so the quoted question you asked here is silly and dumb.  As far as the thread's topic goes, I, along with more than 50% of the respondents think Murtala's face should not be removed. shikena.

I ask you again, do you have the balls to Admit that biafra commanders and their supreme commander caused the deaths of more Igbo women and children by their criminal act of not surrendering when they were checkmated, than Murtala or any other soldier?  It will not kill you to be truthful in your answer for once.  I know you are too much of a coward to answer truthfully, I hope you'l give us a pleasant surprise.

There is no country or secessionist group in the world that has halted agitation for independent status because of the threat of hunger especially when such threat was as a result of anti-humanistic blockade perpetrated against them.
I agree with the above statement.  In this case however, we are talking about a war wherein, the biafran soldiers have been surrounded and a blockade was in effect.  My disappointment with the biafran commanders and their supreme commander was based on their willingness to sacrifice so many of my brothers and sisters even when they knew the war has been lost. These commanders ended up fleeing the front, shamefully. I will never forgive them for this act.

To say that Biafran soldiers putting up resistance against blood-thirsty Nigerian army responsible for mass genocides against Efik, Igbo, Ijaw, ppl in the North, are responsible for genocide against Biafran civilians is quite shocking but then when realize that AljHarem and Ndu-chuks are from the core North then it becomes no surprise. They are a people not worth dealing with. I can honestly say that when Biafra is actualized no northern soul should be allowed to reside in the new nation.
In a war, when a blockade has been instituted against you and you are completely surrounded, every war college will recommend that you either surrender to save the lives of your troops and civilians caught up in the blockade, or fight to the end if civilian casaulties can be minimized, or if you can negotiate a safe passage for civilians.

biafran commanders chose to put up what you call resistance (essentially a sacrifice of women and children) which ultimately resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Igbo women  and children. In the maintime these commanders and their supreme commander were eating well prepared foods while allowing children to starve to death. The same commanders did not fight to the end, but ended up fleeing like chickens. What a shame, what a disgrace!!! Your anger is misplaced to say the least. The mass murderers are biafran commanders, olodo.

PhysicsQED:
"THE MASS PURGE

Repeating the mantra of military governments all the way back to Major-General Ironsi’s regime, Murtala declared his government a “corrective regime” that would tackle the corruption that was increasingly infecting government institutions. After dismantling the inner core of Gowon’s regime, Murtala turned his gaze to the civil service. Murtala unleashed a massive onslaught against public sector corruption and inefficiency on a scale never seen before in Africa. This led to a wave of dismissals and retirements of over 10,000 public officials who were summarily dismissed or retired on the grounds of inefficiency or corruption.

In response to national debate on the military’s continual hold on governance, Murtala announced plans for the military to disengage from politics. Some officers were genuinely concerned that military rule had a corrosive effect on military professionalism. Murtala therefore laid out the framework for the return of Nigeria to democratic rule on October 1st 1979. Anxious to avoid the blatant ethnic based party politics of the 1960s, Murtala told the committee which would draft the new constitution, that the SMC would prefer it if they came up with a system of government without political parties. In the end several “new” political parties emerged as clones of the parties of the 1960s. He also stressed that the military did not intend to stay in office “a day longer than necessary”. One of the justifications for the coup that removed Gowon was that Gowon had postponed the return to civilian rule. However it is perplexing that on taking over power, the officers who overthrew Gowon then announced a four year transition to civil rule programme. Murtala ignored the results of widely discredited 1973 census (the results of which have never been made public), and declared that the 1963 figures would instead be used for national planning purposes. The number of states was increased from 12 to 19 with the creation of seven new states: Anambra, Imo, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo and Plateau."

http://www.gamji.com/article6000/NEWS7073.htm

Note that Murtala came to power in July of 1975, but decided that for some reason democracy could only be had by October of 1979.

IBB probably learned from this guy.
It is understandable that you reached  your conclusion if your information was based on the article you posted.  I, unfortunately do not buy everything written by Max.

I’m afraid you are yet to prove to me or convince me otherwise that Murtala and his fellow soldiers planned for the transition period to democracy to be at least 4 years, just out of greed for power. We’ll have to agree to disagree on this issue.

Also, when Murtala Muhammad removed Gowon in a coup, allegedly because Gowon kept delaying the return back to civilian rule, he and his fellow soldiers planned for the transition period to democracy to be at least 4 years, just out of greed for power. Yorubas are the Problem with Nigeria - By Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
Written by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

By Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, (Special Speech by the CPC 2015 Presidential Candidate)
In sum, the Yoruba political leadership, as mentioned by Balarabe Musa, has shown itself over the years to be incapable of rising above narrow tribal interests and reciprocating goodwill from other sections of the country by treating other groups with respect. Practically every crisis in Nigeria since independence has its roots in this attitude.

i. The Yoruba elite and area-boy politics;
ii. Igbo marginalisation and the responsible limits of retribution; and
iii. The Yoruba Factor and "Area-boy" Politics.

See also The Adulteress' Diary by Lamido Sanusi

My views on the Yoruba political leadership have been thoroughly articulated in some of my writings, prime among which was " Afenifere: Syllabus of Errors" published by This Day (The Sunday Newspaper) on Sept 27, 1998. There was also an earlier publication in the weekly Trust entitled " The Igbo, the Yoruba and History"  (Aug. 21, 1998).

The Yoruba elite were the first, in 1962, to attempt a violent overthrow of an elected government in this country. In 1966, it was the violence in the West which provided an avenue for the putsch of 15th January. After Chief Awolowo lost to Shagari in 1983 elections, it was the discontent and bad publicity in the South-West which led to the Buhari intervention. When Buhari jailed UPN governors like Ige and Onabanjo, the South-Western press castigated that good government and provided the right mood for IBB to take over power. As soon as IBB cleared UPN governors of charges against them in a politically motivated retrial, he became the darling of the South-West. When IBB annulled the primaries in which Adamu Ciroma and Shehu Yar Adua emerged as presidential candidates in the NRC and SDP, he was hailed by the South-West. When the same man annulled the June 12, 1993 elections in which Abiola was the front-runner, the South-West now became defenders of democracy.
How come the article you supposedly posted seem to be made up of incoherent cut and paste texT?  Why are you associating Musa Balarabe’s quotes with Sanusi, in addition to other distortions you’ve posted?  The laziness you exhibit here is shameful. There is enough material out there if you must criticize the man, but the nut job you did up there is beneath even you.  SMH

My good friend ndu_chucks, you are too smart to make this type of pedestrian comment.
So, putting up a military resistance to an invading army is now tantamount to committing genocide against own people?

I am still waiting for you to show me where Biafran soldiers wiped out entire men and children. Murtala wiped out men in ANIOMA. He also committed same crimes in one incident in Onitsha.
You can throw accusations arround in your sorry attempt at rewriting history. Your accusations againast Murtala are laughable, do you even know the meaning of genocide?

What is not in dispute is the fact that after biafra was surrounded and a blockade was implemented, biafran commanders and their supreme commander decided to use women and children as weapons.  They allowed them to die by the thousands through starvation with the expectation that the international community would force the federal troops to give-up. When their strategy failed, these commanders fled like chickens!

Before you start blabbing your mouth, please note that many of us lost relatives due to the senseless acts of these biafran commanders – do not reopen those wounds.  The acts of these commanders are not in dispute, but your accusations against the man, Murtala, are just that,  unsubstantiated accusations.

Your outrage is misplaced. The said commanders caused the deaths of arguably hundreds of thousands of Ndigbo people - !!!!

@Onlytruth, while you are at it, please remember to blame the biafran commanders including their supreme commander, who killed thousands of innocent Nigerians including women and children because they kept the war going instead of surrendering - this was after it has become clear and obvious that they could not win the civil war.

Those biafran commanders eventually fled after commiting the said genocidal(since you are using the word carelessly) act againsts their own people.

Truth be told: If GEJ had listened to voices of reason and honoured the PDP gentleman's power sharing agreement, we would not be in the mess we are currently in. GEJ would have gone down in history as one of the greatest Nigerian ever, if he had conducted truly free and fair elections without being a candidate.

As things stand, his legacy is not going to be anything to write home about. In my humble opinion, GEJ had no business leading a country like Nigeria - he is a weaklin, inexperienced, naive, yet a very good man at heart. His handlers are going to ruin the man.

He was warned about the dangers of not honouring the PDP agreement, but his greedy handlers convinced him to do so. It is glaringly obvious to all that GEJ does not have the guts to do the needful. If there is any iota of evidence that IBB, Atiku, Ciroma, or any other 'leader; from the North is implicated in this Boko Haram mess, let GEJ arrest them immediately, The Nigerian people will support him.

Let me tell you what you know already, and it is that ANY genocide is wrong, and shooting UNARMED citizens for ANY reason whatsoever is treasonable. But both happens in Nigeria, with your tacit or implied support.
You have to take positions based on principle. For example, I am against ANY form of state sanctioned murder even if it happened to a Yusuf Mohammed. When he was gunned down without trial and due court process, I was one of the first Nigerians here to condemn it.
You cannot support Satan and condemn the Devil.

. . .For putting himself in harms way to visit the family of the slain boko haram leader. He actually asked his security detail to excuse him, putting himself in harms way while he had heart to heart talks with the family; you've got to give it to him for that, he's got balls of steel.
His effort has opened up a direct communication route to the sect, instead of the faceless "Ustaz" and other unknowns that have claimed to represent them. What this means, is that we can now answer the salient questions about boko haram; especially if it is a singular entity, and if not, what exactly they represent.

Also noteworthy about Obj's visit is the fact that he is not a Northerner, neither is he a Muslim; I am not even certain he can speak Hausa. Of our past leaders, he is the only one with any redeeming qualities. He did what the son's of the soil and so-called Northern leaders from Buhari to IBB could not do.
I used to be staunchly anti-Obj, but that has now ceased forever.

You've got swag, sir.
Beaf, the kind of bravery shown by OBJ in this case is a calculated PR stunt which will benefit OBJ more than any other party or body.  I’m surprised that you are willing to overlook any of  OBJ’s committed atrocities because of this singular act of his. I suppose you would have ceased to be anti-IBB or anti-Ibori, if any of these men had done the same thing OBJ did.

In my humble opinion, these people deserve to be tried for grand theft and locked up for good, instead of being given the opportunity to continue to r.ape the nation by diverting attention from their crimes through deceptive acts of ‘bravery’. These people should not be worshiped as heros, they are thieves who belong in prison.  OBJ, IBB, Ibori, and others are criminals in my mind, they deserve no praise at a all.

If you imagine the number of lives that could have been saved if the billions that these people stole had been used to build good roads and hospitals, then you’d realize that OBJ’s act of ‘bravery’ in this case is not enough to give him a free pass.
