@Onlytruth & Beef, sorry I was away on heavy duty millitary duties. Some of us have to protect you people despite the fact that we should be caining you for your various attrocities. ![]() |

WTF 3-0!! I'm shutting down the TV. |
@Naijaking, I think we can safely conclude that you are not a card carrying member of the PDP, and if you are, you should be expelled from the party. As stated by Dede1 and agreed to by Sapeleguy, the PDP gentleman's agreement should be honoured - its the right thing to do, QED. Now, you of all people, who have lived abroad and seen how democracy works, should understand that it is part of the democratic process for groups who share common interests to rally arround any candidate of their choice. It is healthy for the so-called Northern elders/leaders to rally arround their candidate of choice or oppose him/her as they deem fit. You and others who do not like it, can do the exact same thing! Besides, why are you people giving yourselves severe stress over issues that do not concern you - most of you do not even belong to the PDP. Go and form a mega party and oppose the PDP!! I'm tired of your excuses already. Pretty soon you will blame the Northerners' divide and rule tactics for causing your failure and inability to form an effective opposition party. |
@Babapupa, Your thesis, in response to my last post, was for the most part, hogwash and a bunch of bull. Your humane way of dealing with these people is to give them 2 years to move when it is obvious that these people have no means of relocating. Most of them hardly make enough money to survive. I submit to you that it is the responsibility of the government to provide the environment that will enable these people to exist beyond subsistence. Many of these people are traders, I'm yet to hear of any micromarket financing program or business development program set up by the government to assist these traders in taking their business to the next level, before bulldozing their way of life. These people should be treated as refugees of war, relocated, and resettled appropriately. One effect of the government's actions is to breed a new set of angry armed robbers who will terrorise Lagosians. When you elitists become victims of their reaction, you will learn to be more humane. There is nothing wrong with what the government is trying to do, the execution of the plan is what I find insensitive and inhumane. The plan could have been executed in a more humane manner - no sensible person should argue with this fact. |
they didnt travel to south africa on government expenses but with monies that belong to you and i;wasting of resources on irrelevant occasion when millions of nigeria live in abject poverty is a bad idea.
I hope you can produce your tax clearance papers to show that some of that money is yours. I will also accept your submission that one or two oil wells are being drilled on your ancestral property. ![]() |
babapupa:Your response does not come accross as a briliant one in this case. In case you missed my point, I wrote: Fashola could implement these bulldozing activities in a more humane and fair manner. If all you got out of my post was that I was calling for the government to start giving out money for illegal slums and shanties, then your motives are questionable at best. |
Bankole is sliding towards a very slippery slope. |
I venture to say that most of those who are criticizing the 62 senators are hypocrites - not a single one of these critics would turn down the opportunity to travel to SA at the government's expense. You people should sharaaap already. Their primary aim was to go to SA and offer support to our President and the next world cup champions - the Nigerian national football team - there is nothing wrong with that. na jealousy go kill una finish. Go and run for office and change the situation in the senate if you feel that changes need to be made. All the yapping here will have zero effect on the status quo. Can you people even name the senators and Reps from your state? olodo ![]() |
In as much as one could acknowledge the right Lagos Government to so-called eminenet domain, enabling them to seize individual property such as land, for the greater good of the state, it is noteworthy that in the developed world, when this government right is used, the affected people are adequately compensated. Not compensating the affected people simply breeds resentment, criminals, and bad citizens. Fashola could implement these bulldozing activities in a more humane and fair manner. |
evil666:which kind party leaders be dis wey no sabi spell. Nairaland no be de same as Niaraland, if una wan succeed una go need to be more meticulous than dis. olodo ![]() |
OMO IBO:You sound quite naive. Only a foolish leader will fail to cash in on his political capital, particularly if it will result to the prompt achievemnent of the leader's objectives. You sound like an intellectual midget who is ignorant of how foreign policies and interactions occur. Correct me if I'm wrong. |
If this story is true, then Goodluck Jonathan is not as savvy as most of us wish he is. If GJ's administration is serious about fighting corruption as the world has been promised, all GJ has to do is call Obama and ask him to put pressure on UAE to extradite Ibori, shikena. GJ is beginning to appear like one of the boys - there may be nothing special about him afterall. |
Beaf:Uncle Joe ko, auntie Jemima ni. Goodluck Jonathan has never campaigned for any elected office on his own, he has simply ascended to various offices out of coincidence. The man has no real vision to move Nigeria forward, if he does, he is yet to tell the electorate about it. The earlier you people started demanding the very best leadership for yourselves, the better off incoming generations will be. Stop worshiping a visionless GJ simply because he is from your region, you should have been more sophisticated than that, by now. olodo. Any fool can top the achievement of Nigeria's recent heads of state. Please post links or text of GJ vision and plans for Nigeria or his master plan. This man is uniquely positioned to make some bold and positive revolutionary moves - my esp tells me that he is not a true leader who can do such. I wonder what you people will do when sisi GJ announces to the world that he will honour the PDP power rotation agreement and wait until 2015. |
Methinks Ibori arranged the raid himself in a pitiful attempt to help his cause of seeking assylum in Dubai. He will rot in jail soon enough, olodo. |
@Poster LOOOOL. You people must not underestimate the intelligence of our policemen. If you take away the pockets, these policemen will simply resort to carrying duffle bags arround or they will find a taylor to sow hidden compartments in their new uniforms. ![]() |
Late last year the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, called on the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) to explain why its bank-note firm's dealings with Nigeria involved multimillion-dollar payments to offshore tax havens. Sanusi described as "disturbing" the revelation that more than N1.5bn ($10m) in commissions were wired to accounts - including some in secretive tax havens - by the RBA's bank-note firm, Securency. Many Sanusi critics including the usual suspects of NL, accused Sanusi of another implied smear campaign, designed to diss his predecessor Soludo. If indeed Sanusi's allegations were true, Soludo couldn not claim to have been ignorant of the affair since he was privy to the same information at Sanusi's disposal. Well, 234next is now reporting the following: ExcerpIt is time for Soludo and other criminals connected with this crime, to be brought to book. |
Let the banks be free to do what bankers do,and everyone will be better off for it if not there can be no growth or jobs. . .
The above would be the case if Nigeria were as economically sophisticated as some developed countries. The banks were given a free hand to do what bankers do, as it were, and we all see the results of that - the bankers simply ruined their own industry. The mess created by the bankers is now being cleaned up by the CBN with restructuring and other methods. Many of these CBN activities are necessary first steps before we can get to your utopia. |
Interesting times ahead. ExcerpRead the rest of the story here: http://www.tribune.com.ng/sat/index.php/front-page-articles/1137-pdp-plots-jonathan-presidency.html |
If President Goodluck Jonathan names Akunyili as Chairman of INEC as reported below, then he'll leave himself open to obvious criticisms if he runs for the presidency in 2011. For some reason, I don't believe Daily Trust's "impeccable" sources. Information and Communications Minister Professor Dora Nkem Akunyili’s name will shortly be forwarded by President Goodluck Jonathan to the Senate for confirmation as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Daily Trust learnt from impeccable sources in Abuja yesterday.Read the rest of the story here ===> http://www.news.dailytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=19126:akunyili-to-be-named-inec-chairman&catid=46:lead-stories&Itemid=140 |
@Onlytruth, (1)Kindly itemize what MASSOB represents (2)Are you a member of this organization (3)Have you donated money to their cause(s) or do you even know how/where to donate money to the organization or (4)Are you simply an internet warrior who will only kill the fly which is trying to enter his cup of coffee, while you are firing missiles and bombs through your computer keyboard? (5)What are the specific crimes that their leader has been accused of and why is he in jail? Dalu o. |
This deal doesn't quite make sense to me. Why can't the government enter into a maintenance contract with China to get exisiting refineries working at full capacity before signing this $23b contract? A government that has a very limited time perform should make resurrecting existing refineries a priority. |
This is a very bad idea. Governments are not known to run businesses efficiently. Power distribution should be handled by profit motivated corporations who will safeguard the assets and run the system efficiently. What GJ needs to do is to sell the distribution assets to corporations (preferably joint ventures - proven US/UK/China distribution companies with Nigerian partners) and let them run the distribution system. Governments, whether state of federal are incapable of running the distribution system efficiently. |
Katsumoto:Your question highlights the fallacy in the notion that Ndigbo are agitating for an independent sovereign state. The said agitation (wishful thinking) exists only in the minds of economic and political refugees of the Igbo extraction, old coots and Igbos of the older generation. A vast majoirity of Igbos live outside of Igboland, and have assimilated nicely, and contributing economically and otherwise to their adopted states in Nigeria. Many have inter-married and have no interest whatsoever in a separate nation. The sooner they realize that they are not going to have a separate nation, the sooner they will start working for their interests in one Nigeria in manners that will benefit their lot. The typical cry of marginalization by many a Igbo has become pitiful and counterproductive. |
What a delight it would be, if Goodluck Jonathan threatened to leave the PDP if he were not allowed to be the party's flagbearer! PDP is the root of all Nigeria's evil. GJ needs to perform beyond expectations in the next few months, and bring progressives in his administration such as Ribadu, El-Rufai, and other progressive southerners. The old fools such as Atiku and co need to retire and give younger generation and Nigeria a chance to excel. If Jonathan performs, ALL Nigerians will support him in 2011, if he uses the Presidential bully pulpit to talk to the nation and explain why the PDP rotational agreement is unconstitutional and not in the best interest of Nigeria. A Jonathan/Ribadu or Jonathan/El-Rufai ticket would be a winner. If Jonathan can muster the courage to nominate Ribadu for VP, then I will personally kill some cows in celebration. |
@Katsumoto: You asked Are you stating that there are no credible leaders from the North? Are you insinuating that the murderer, drug dealer, thief IBB is the best the North can produce? My answer to you is absolutely not. I'd prefer a contest without IBB. We should note however that a majority of the electorate will vote for IBB and do support him. The sad truth is that IBB will win in a free and fair election in Nigeria. I hope other candidates come forth with their ideas soon, if not, IBB will run away with the presidency come 2011. |
IBB/Dim Ojukwu on a ticket would be interesting. The only problem may be the fact that some ambitious people of the ndiigbo extraction might find a way to eliminate IBB, rendering Dim Ojukwu the president, if indeed the said ticket wins. |
Beaf:Beaf, you can't eat your cake and have it at the same time, buddy! These are the same MEND operatives that have now been hired by Ibori. Your organization is made up of thugs and criminals. You people need to learn how to take your struggle to the political arena. Your days of thuggish criminal acts are over. |
kosovo:incabigious regetelete ![]() |
@Topic, Interesting. Jonathan will probably not object to running as VP under IBB. If their ticket wins, it could ensure GJ the presidency in 2015. IBB is monopolizing media coverage and getting a real head start. Where are the other candidates? They need to start presenting us with their visions for Nigeria - IBB is running away with this thing. |
May their souls rest in peace. I'm convinced that many Nigerian wakos would wish the same fate on Nigeria, but God forbid bad thing. Polish leader, 95 others dead in Russia jet crash |
