Truth be told, dogs could be proclaimed as the most sexually perversed animals on earth, and they even shy away from anal sex. Humans should not engage in sexual acts which even dogs find deplorable. As far as cunnilingus go, not sure that is Hygienic if a man is doing it. |

VolvoS60: ^^^^ You are clearly not ready for a sensible debate so I won't go further than this post.
If indeed you have any love or affection (or whatever you want to call it) for your friends in the Forces, you had better tell them to respect their uniforms, their fellow countrymen and most of all, the law.
Your friends drive against traffic (even when they are clearly not on urgent assignment) and endanger the lives of other road users. They do this and claim that they are exempt from traffic rules because they are 'staff'.
Your friends get on public mass transit buses and refuse to pay their fare because they are, you guessed it, 'staff'. Interestingly, they only do this on intra-city bus routes. I am yet to see any military personnel who has gone to an airport and attempted to board a flight to Cairo or Abuja or Jos without paying, because he is 'staff'.
Your friends drive up into filling stations, barge their way to the front of the queue and insist on being served because they are, once again, 'staff'.
Your friends accompany smugglers as escorts in moving cars illegally across Nigeria's borders because they are 'staff' and other law enforcement agents have been intimidated into turning away once they see military uniforms.
I could go on and on, but I'm convinced you get my point. Ditch the hollow, pseudo-patriotic calls for 'support' and tell your friends to obey Nigerian law. Period. Nigerian civilians are not animals to be booted around at will.
Always remember that contempt or derision, like respect, can be mutual. Just admit the error in your generalization and move on. No one is disputing the fact that there are bad apples in the Army. |

Dear Barcanista,
Let me get this straight, you are are throwing away your principles and moving to a camp other than the "progressive" camp, because of interactions on NL with some faceless people, ko?
If that is indeed your reason, then I am very disappointed.
I do not believe any faceless person on NL should have the power to make one change his views or "camp", if the said views or "camp" are rooted in deep convictions. Well, to each his/her own.
For all practical purposes, on and off NL,

VolvoS60: ^^^^ Since you have decided to turn a perfectly reasonable discussion into a pointless statistics masterclass, I just have one request from you: please back up your assertions in bold up there. You say 99.99999% of Nigerian military personnel (real heroes, you call them) do not have the view that their lives are worth more than the lives of civilians. What statistical data is your inference drawn from? That is simple, estimate the number of soldiers you've actually seen perpetrating the irresponsible acts and divide that number by the total number of members of the Armed forces of this great country and you'll start to get the picture. I will not do arithmetic for you, feel free to use this calculatorI am convinced you got my point. |
Politics › Re: Armed Soldiers Beating Innocent Citizens Now At Sun Tan Beach Badagry by nduchucks: 7:37pm On Feb 16, 2015 |
VolvoS60: ^^^ Not everyone is out to 'vilify' soldiers as you put it. Even on this very thread, some fellow is claiming that a soldier's life is worth the lives of 100 civilians. Ordinarily we should dismiss such comments as those of a bug eyed online troll but that poster seems to have some military affiliation.
Unfortunately for us all, his comments reflect the views of the average Nigerian soldier , whether or not we want to admit it. So far none of those supporting the military on here have taken that fellow to task for his provocative comments. Why? I don't think you can back up the assertions in bold above with facts and data. The above in bold is based on emotionalisms crafted from observing the actions of a few soldiers who do not even account for 0.00001% of our real heros. What statistical data was your inference based on? I'm afraid your stipulations above are mere generalizations which could be deemed irresponsible if care is not taken. Its like saying that all Nigerian Engineers are incompetent because you've encountered the inadequate work of a few Engineers - you see how silly that could be? |

Gbawe: Thank you for your gentlemanly advice. I will state to the forum now that I have no issues with barcanista yet I will never act as childishly as he has done and have no intentions to open any thread about him. I do not even care if Barcanista begins to praise GEJ and the PDP because he has switched sides here many times and compromised himself. This is something I have never done. What I was yesterday is what I am today and will be tomorrow.
What I take offence to is duplicitous and treacherous behaviour. People of integrity know that a man cannot be all things to all men and they will not try to do so as Barcanista does. If not for his subtle effort to undermine the APC, I really do not have an axe to grind with him because the progress of Nigeria is something I take far more seriously than some back-and-forth squable with faceless forumers who come and go by the very nature of online blogging. The issue is done for me. I do not need any PM from anyone. Let Barcanista stay in his lane and I stay in mine. As simple as that. Uncle Gbawe, after all this time, I still dey gbadun you. |

I resent the way and manner in which many of the posters on this thread are vilifying soldiers and the Army because of the acts of a few bad apples.
The vast majority of members of our armed forces are brave heros, many of who have died for us in the war against BH and elsewhere. Please single out the thieving Generals and drunk soldiers for insults but celebrate the brave majority of the Soldiers.
May God continue to bless and protect the Soldiers of this great country. |

anonimi: You can go through the post below and the referenced links. Do you actually believe that there was a net reduction in looting and theft during GEJ's administration, given the multi billion dollar subsidy theft, multi billion dollar NNPC theft, just to mention a few, and those itemized by Soludo? If you honestly believe that, then I'll have to say goodbye at this point. |

anonimi: The perception does not match reality, which is that of REDUCED looting under the Jonathan/Sambo federal administration that has led to revived, rehabilitated & expanded railways, roads, agricultural production, almajiri schools, universities etc.
These items were budgeted annualy by previous federal administrations but NOTHING was delivered. You are going to need to do more than simply making assertions without backing them up with real data, if you want to be taken seriously. So I patiently await the evidence you have to support your assertions above. i.e. the assertion that GEJ's administration actually reduced looting. I hope you are not counting Soludo and Sanusi's pronouncements on the massive looting in this administration as a reduction. Try not to be a joke, if you would. |

charlos14: Ask youself, have they ever been a freer press than during Jonathan's? Guy, not everything about GEJ's government is awful, I readily admit that, but I also admit that looting in his government and misappropriation of public funds has been the worst in our history. There has always been corruption and looting by government officials, but you have to admit that the level of looting and mismanagement of funds by government agencies, is the highest its ever been in the history of our great nation. If you can't admit this obvious fact, then you are a lost cause and there is no need to waste time with you. |

Plugging the big hole in our treasury, put in place by the current administration, which allows billions of dollars to go unaccounted for, and creating real accountability, is good enough for me. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do this.
