WARRI—GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, has said the impact of the renewed destruction of oil assets in the state producing environment has gone so bad that the state is now unable to pay salaries regularly anymore. The governor, yesterday at the Government Office Annex, Warri, where he convened a stakeholders meeting on, “Creating A Peaceful Atmosphere for the Development of Delta State and the Niger Delta Region,” said: “The larger Nigerian government has been in financial crisis over dwindling oil prices. Increased production would have helped cushion the impact but instead we are faced with destruction of oil assets. “Dealing with dwindling oil prices and destruction of oil assets, we are now producing just half of our quota. And we are all really worried because of the greater effect is on Delta State. Before now we receive up to N20 billion monthly, but what we have now is so low. Last time we got N3.4 billion. Last month what we received has dropped to N3 billion. We now get 1/7th of what we use to have.” The governor said, going by the current financial position, the state was no longer in a position to pay salaries regularly just as Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, has also nosedived. “We met a wage bill of N7.4 billion. Our workforce has been unchanged. With biometrics and rationalization, we trimmed that to about N6.8 billion. With the situation, we have in our hands, we are not in position to pay workers regularly anymore. “If we produce our normal volumes, we won’t have it this bad. We have had to reduce support to the councils. And apart from poor income from Federation Account, IGR has also gone down because money is not circulating. “I do know that we were receiving reasonable Pay As You Earn, PAYE of up to N1.5bn and N1.6bn monthly. That has gone down. We should realise there’s a challenge. Political office holders, traditional rulers should build peace. Delta State has been on the news for the wrong reasons and that’s not where we want to be,” Okowa added. source:www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/attack-oil-installations-cant-pay-salaries-anymore-okowa/

Today's ladies will feel shy to breastfeed their babies, but rather pop their breast out on the streets to attract men. God did not make breast for men. They're for the hungry babies. True or false? Topic for discussion..!! Say your mind

The Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal has reserved 26th September for hearing of an appeal by a former Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd. The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress from Emohua Local Government Area is facing trial for alleged attempted murder, in a case related to the fracas in the Rivers State House of Assembly in July, 2013. DAILY POST recalls that a Port Harcourt High Court had discharged and acquitted Lloyd after months of incarceration under former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. But the present government decided to revisit the matter, which border on alleged attack on the member representing Obio-Akpor Constituency 2, Michael Chinda. The PDP administration, under Governor Nyesom Wike believes that the case against Lloyd was not judiciously disposed. As a result, Lloyd had approached the Appellate Court to challenge the fresh charges. Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal has fixed 26th September to begin hearing of the appeal, after the State Attorney-General, Emma Aguma, asked it to dismiss the appeal for lack of merit. source:dailypost.ng/2016/06/29/wike-resurrects-lloyds-murder-trial/ |

Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has accused the presidency of declaring war on the country’s legislature. In a statement he personally signed, he said the country’s democracy, which clearly stipulated the separation of powers, was being threatened by the executive arm of government. He claimed innocence of the crime for which he was being prosecuted, describing it as “grotesque display of vindictiveness.” While vowing never to submit “to the untamed wishes and caprices of witch-hunters,” he added: “I put my trust in God, the court, and the overwhelming solidarity of the good people of Nigeria. When the dust settles, Nigerians will see clearly that this charge is nothing but meretricious thrash. “Time, occasions, and provocations like this will teach their own lessons. I hope that one chief lesson will be that democracy differs markedly from military rule and that public officer should never subvert the foundations of democracy by prioritizing the rule of man over the rule of law.” source:dailypost.ng/2016/06/28/senate-forgery-scandal-buhari-has-declared-war-on-us-ekweremadu-cries-out/

Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko announced on Thursday that the State government is “broke” and therefore cannot afford to pay the striking civil servants’ their salaries. Mr. Mimiko announced this while addressing the protesting workers, explaining that the State treasury is empty and that the government is struggling to survive. “So, we can no longer pay salaries, even when they are due,” the embattled governor said to the workers. The protesting workers in a deliberate action had earlier shut down the entrance to the government house to prevent Mr. Mimiko and his convoy from entering the building. “The protesting workers disallowed him [Mimiko] entry into the government house and forced his convoy to stop at a meter to the main gate of the now ‘abandoned’ compound. “Their real plan was to compel the governor to alight personally from his vehicle and publicly address them over their demands. “Addressing them, Mimiko convincingly told the protesting civil servants to buckle up for a financial crash, as the State is broke,” our correspondent reported. However, irritated by the action of some protesting workers who continuously hurled abuses on his government in a rude manner, the governor threatened to sack them from the services of his government. “If you continue in this manner, I will sack you from the services of this State government, you can bet me! Because I am still your employer,” he said. SaharaReporters learned that the workers are demanding the payment of their accumulated salaries from December and January till date. In January 2016, Mr. Mimiko advised civil servants in the workforce of his government to engage in subsistence farming due to the declining economy of Ondo State and Nigeria at large. This was as a result of a drastic drop in oil derivation funds from the international market, our correspondent further reported. “You can do this at the backyard or front of your compound because I can’t guarantee the financial status of this State any longer,” Mr. Mimiko said when he attended a program at the State event center. During Thursday’s protest, Mr. Mimiko spoke further and explained that the State monthly wage bill including pensions is N3.9 billion, adding that the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) still stands at about one third of the wage bill. “Our monthly wage bill is still N3. 9 billion, and all the funds we are collecting from Abuja [federal allocation], oil derivation funds, Value Added Tax, Internally Generated Revenue put together is N1. 3 billion,” the governor told the protesting workers. Mr. Mimiko begged the government employees to resume work for the sake of dying and sick patients in the government clinic, arguing that the strike is taking a toll on the health sector of the State. “I am begging you because the continuation of this strike will not bring us any money,” he said. On the strike, the organized labor leaders also held a meeting with traditional rulers in the State led by a monarch from Mr. Mimiko’s hometown, the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Victor Kiladejo, but it ended in a stalemate. Bosede Daramola, the embattled chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ondo State, disclosed that the protesting workers are gradually dying of hunger and cannot continue to work on empty stomachs. Mr. Daramola also declared that the strike would continue until the workers are paid their salaries. sourve:http://saharareporters.com 2016/06/10/ondo-state- broke-i-can%E2%80%99t-pay-workers-mimiko-says. |

Funny how some public figure behave. how would he marry an urhobo woman without going to pay her bride price. He is a thief and should be tried in the traditional way. firstly he should pay the bride price of the dead woman. secondly he should conduct an engagement ceremony for the dead woman. thirdly, he should be made to marry the dead woman before conducting the burial. |
Brig-Gen. Sule Kazaure, the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to commence the review of the MoU between both organisations. Kazaure made the call on Thursday in Abuja when INEC Chairman, Prof. Yakubu Mahmood paid him a courtesy visit at the NYSC Headquarters. The D-G stressed the need for the commission to consider a review of the MoU especially in the area of provision of adequate security to corps members during and after elections. He said that a review of allowances, insurance cover and transportation for corps members during election duty should also be considered by the commission. Earlier, Prof. Mahmood said that INEC had paid a visit to the NYSC to present the letter of employment it promised to the ex-corps member who lost his eye sight during the 2011 general elections. He said that the commission had fulfilled its promise to offer automatic employment to the ex-corps member, Mr Daniel Oluwatobi, in any state within the federation. Mahmood said that Oluwatobi had been offered employment by the commission and posted to INEC office in Ogun state. He gave the assurance that the commission would review the MoU between both organisations soon. “In the 2011 general elections, INEC formalised its relationship with the NYSC by signing a MoU. The last time this MoU was reviewed was in 2013. “I know that there is a need to review our terms of engagement in the area of remuneration and I assure you that at the earliest opportunity we will do so. “We cannot conduct successful elections without the help of the NYSC because it is from the NYSC that we draw our most dedicated, committed and non partisan election duty officers. “I know that the allowance given to corps members on election duty is not enough with the work that they do; but this is a national assignment and we are glad you have taken it as a patriotic service,” Mahmood said. He said that the greatest challenge both organisations faced during the conduct of election was security. The chairman also called on the NYSC to assist the commission in the July 30, supplementary elections in Rivers, Kogi, Kano and Imo states. He also requested the assistance of the NYSC in the September 10, governorship elections and any by-election that might arise. In an interview with newsmen, Mr Daniel Oluwatobi, said he was happy and thankful that he was not forgotten after he lost his sight in the course of serving the country He thanked the NYSC and INEC for coming to his rescue and providing him with a source of livelihood. Christopher Isiguzo in Enugu Despite the outcry trailing the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), pro-Biafra group, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) on Saturday declared “total and unflinching support” for the avengers and other self-determination groups within the Niger Delta region. MASSOB, in a statement by its leader, Uchenna Madu expressed delight at the consistent blowing up of pipelines by the avengers, noting that though they (MASSOB) had adopted a non-violent approach, any approach adopted by other groups to achieve the same objective would be supported. Madu expressed satisfaction with the courage, selflessness and consistency with which the Avengers and other “Biafran warriors” were pursuing their mission. But the MASSOB leader said blowing up of oil pipelines by NDA, “shows and proves the positiveness and acceptability of Biafra by our brethren across the Niger. It also rubbished the earlier diversionary, cowardice, stupid and negative comments / statements and position of some leaders of ethnic nationalities of the South South who were brainwashed by Hausa Fulani Yoruba oligarchies against Biafra. “ FURTHER DETAILS LATER source:www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/06/04/massob-backs-niger-delta-avengers-bombing-of-pipelines/
