Ganduje should free the Gorilla abeg. If an agbada that has no life could swallow dollars, how much more a Gorilla that breathes? |
Ganduje go comot after 4 years, na Emir go remain |
How did this guy win? Bala reeks so much of corruption especially as the FCT minister under Jonathan. This isn't about party sentiments. Something is fundamentally wrong with this Nigeria. |
It was really an eye sore today. The moment I saw traffic on that road and at that time, I could tell the usual Fadeyi fight was ongoing. One of the many features of a failed system. |
nickxtra:Lol! "Sycophancy" you meant? So whose ego am I rubbing and what personal interests do I have to complain? Look the only thing I am interested in is how to get the power sector working. Capiche? If after about 60 years of independence, we are still finding it hard to stabilize the power sector and our governments have been interested in apportioning blames, then there is tendency towards hopelessness when we citizens too trade our objectivity for sentiments and bias. |
laudate:Lol so the other guy claimed I was blaming the government and now, you are saying I am supporting same government. Na wa o ![]() So I don't know how to start explaining this but estimated billing is not illegal. Hold on! Even in well advanced countries, some occurrences albeit rare warrant them estimating the bills of customers e.g. when your meter is faulty, natural disasters etc. However, you may want to decry the over-reliance of the Nigerian system on estimated billing and somewhat adopting it as its main billing system and in that case, you would be very right. @bolded is the point I have been trying to make since. The government cannot look the DISCOs in the eye and tell them to do the right thing because of their own wrongs too. "He who must come to equity must come with clean hands". The hands of our government is soiled and that is why they are finding it hard to do the right thing and businesses are taking advantage of this to extort poor citizens. |
olaolaking:Honestly bro |
Housing:Sadly, the government is giving the DISCOs a condition to meter all customers before it can make tariffs cost reflective. |
oz4real83:Thoughtful comment right there. One would think government would quickly take up such proposed bills to stop such estimated billings. Why are they finding it hard to effect it? Lol, please mark my words, it won't happen now and the government knows it. That is why I am saying we citizens should challenge the government to tell us the truth about happenings in this sector so we can find a way forward. We are tired of the blame games. |
Aolconsult:Lol I appreciate your reply, really because I had hitherto contemplated opening a thread where we all could discuss and proffer solutions to problems of the sector. Nonetheless, let me quickly make some corrections. First I blamed the government in my post (both present and past), not only the present. Some DISCOs in Nigeria inherited over 80 billion naira in debt accumulated by who? And when you assess these debt profiles today, they have been greatly reduced. You may also wish that a major part of the debts are being owed by Government ministries, departments and agencies who believe they shouldn't be paying electricity bills and till this very moment, they have not been paid and you know what? They'd let you know you can never disconnect them. Note that these bills would have been factored into their annual budget and still, they won't pay. So how have the DISCOs run into debt? Go through the NERC website, there is a modeled assumption of the performance of DISCOs over the next 10 years right from privatization that DISCOs would make a loss consistently over 10 years and we are just in the 5th year. May I ask why government itself made such assumptions for DISCOs? Have a look at the investments and tell me you would be willing to run at such loss despite such investments? How can you buy gas to produce electricity at 360 naira per dollar and at the point of selling, government pegs tariff at an assumption at 120 naira per dollar? How please? When some persons are quick to say Ghana enjoys constant power supply, I ask them to have a look at electricity tariffs in Ghana which is about double of Nigeria's before making such comparisons? But you still say DISCOs ran into debt? Lol. Please which monies did government refund back? It seems you rely too much on the information some of these compromised and politicized media outlets feed you. Even the 100 billion naira intervention fund government promised DISCOs in the privatization contract has not been fulfilled as I type this. Not even one naira. Get your facts right sir. Maybe companies knowledgeable about the power sector you made reference to ran from such huge rot on the power sector. But then again, how much knowledge did Adenuga had about the Telecoms sector before government gave him an operating license? If you'd exonerate the present government from problems of the Power sector, why is it finding it had to do that which is right? To come up with practical solutions? Why? P.S. Don't forget government still has a huge 40% Holdings and control of the DISCOs but when it comes to accepting responsibilities, them go hide face ![]() |
oz4real83:Estimated billing is not illegal. In fact, it is recommended and approved by the sector's regulatory body. But Government wouldn't tell you that, they want everyone to keep using the DISCOs as a shield for their gross in incompetence. If it were illegal, why haven't they penalized any DISCO for it? Government should come out and tell us the truth, we are tired of the blame-games. |
If only NERC and the government would tell the truth to the public about the mess they created in the power sector that the DISCOs are now trying to clean up. It's really not a good time most of the DISCOs, bad business something . No wonder most of them are saying they are not doing again and that they are ready to collect their money back even if it is at a discount. If metering was that easy, why didn't government meter everyone when they still had major control before privatization? Scam government! |
Good news |
Exponential improvements in performance year on year, this is what you get when you’re innovative unlike some that, save for the support of some political elements, they shouldn’t have any business with banking. Meanwhile, reverence must be made to Fola Adeola, Tayo Aderinokun (RIP), Segun Agbaje and co. for changing the face of and championing a revolution in banking in Nigeria. A revolution that shook greatly the likes of Subomi Balogun. You all have left indelible footprints in the sand of time. |
Lies! You are never coming back. Enough is enough. I'm happy you, Saraki, Kwankwaso, Ajimobi and other past governors who have chosen to make the Nigerian senate their homes are finally being kicked out. May this bloodless coup sack Theodore Orji, Uzor Kalu and the remaining ones too. AMEN! |
Well, I am trying to reconcile the claim of those who said the judiciary has been oppressed and stripped of it's powers to be independent and objective with news such as this. |
Well deserved |
The only way to reduce traffic in Lagos is to discourage individuals from putting their vehicles on the road and this is only possible by making our public transport system more attractive and efficient. What do you expect on 3rd mainland bridge on a typical workday morning when 5 different persons living within the same compound but allworking on the island all take their individual vehicles to work? They take this cars to work only to be parked all day till they are ready to go home again to cause more traffic.Get more public buses working well, guarantee security and that way, nothing should stop even an average bank MD or top government official from joining public transport to work. Diversify transport too, make use of waterways and rails. I should be able to take a jetty from say Unilag lagoon front to the Island without any business on that 3rd mainland bridge. Shorter travel time, virtually no traffic etc. |
REDshouse:Abii na...you can't give what you don't have. |
Doing the right thing in Nigeria is just as effective as a drop of water in an ocean because of people like this. The only practical solution yet for any other sane Nigeria is to leave this country when they can. Leave this country and maintain your sanity because if events like this do not challenge your sanity, then something is wrong. |
This one don win already o. Na so Saraki carry many many SANs frustrate code of conduct tribunal judge. |
This is a bad omen for PDP in whatever regard. |
This is a very bad omen for PDP in whatever regard. |
Lol I even thought it was Luis |
God bless that guy that asked how it would help reduce pump price or corruption. |
I agree with this, albeit rather sad. Amaechi has only told us what we all know here and that is the truth. Or how do we still fold our arms and allow people like Amaechi govern us? |
Blue3k:You mean our National power grid? Connect to it and experience black-outs more often. |
When the strongest aspirant keeps campaigning like he is the underdog. Such irony! |
Kettle calling pot black |
This NLC that is not ready to be serious. |
