PoliticsRe: Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan Supports Atiku For 2019, Caught On Camera (Video) by Nevee: 8:57am On Sep 06, 2017
CuteMaro:
It's politics. I see nothing wrong here.

The recent trend of the Glo network provider in deducting #20 daily fee from subscribers for absolutely nothing is totally criminal in it's entirety. Something should be done about this before it escalates. This is unacceptable. These guys have either lost control or are just being mean. Either way, Glo smells of incompetence right now.
Oh my...what impunity! I thought I was the only one experiencing this. These guys keep taking undue advantage of our weak laws, almost non-existent regulations and dysfunctional institutions. I'm so swiching to another network provider today, I hate being cheated. And to think this probably happened to millions of their subscribers (do the arithmetic) or it's just one of their many ways of perpetrating corporate fraud.
CareerRe: For Bankers, Ex Bankers And Bankers To Be by Nevee:
Wow! Good read right from the first page, I can only pray God blesses all those who made relevant contributions. Well, I have always had this "thing" (passion) for banking since childhood. I see bankers as super smart- Sanusi Lamido, Atedo Peterside, Otunba Subomi, Fola Adeola, the Late Tayo Aderinokun et.al comes to mind. However, all I have been hearing lately are not encouraging, they only threaten my passion for this revered profession. From allegations that it has been reduced to bringing in deposits by all means (hook or crook) and littering every street with "marketers" whose countenance is even enough to dissuade people from opening accounts and all that. We have heard them, seen them and read them in the papers. If they are so true, I think it ridicules the intelligence of the employees because I am, for instance, more of a "strategy" person and not just the "bros, do you have an account with us?" type. I even heard that a major criterion for finally getting an offer with one bank (I resist the urge to mention the name) after surviving the rigour of tests and interviews, is bringing in an initial deposit of nothing short of 2 million naira.

That said, I won't be deterred to ask some vital questions, now that I can get reliable answers here:

1) What really gets you ahead (executive/top management) in banking? Is it academic feat (Msc. MBA)/professional qualifications (ICAN, CIBN, CIS, CIBN etc) or years of banking experience or just your ability to bring in deposits? I have seen a couple of relatively young guys holding managerial and executive positions in bank excluding Uzoma Dozie of Diamond, Ladi Balogun of FCMB as it is widely opined that they smoothly rode on their fathers' influence to get such positions.

2) Some have argued that having work experience in consulting (especially with the Big 4's) is a better route to getting in and ahead in the banking industry. However, I have noticed that most guys from consulting are usually placed in Compliance which I feel limits their growth prospects. Kindly clarify.

3) What role, function or department would give an experience that would be useful in other industries?

4) Does carving a niche really makes you indispensable? I have been developing interest in Risk Management lately and I intend to take courses in this sepcialization and perhpas do my Msc therein or any other Finance related field (maybe Investment Banking) .

I think that is all, at least for now. God bless you more as you respond.

Pardon me for the quite lengthy post, it's my little way of optimising this rare opportunity.

PS: Had a brief stint during my undergrad days with one of the South African banks in Nigeria and it was a worthwhile experience probably because they believe so much and are guarded by their values.

BusinessRe: GTBank Half Year Profit hit N100billion by Nevee: 8:51am On Aug 16, 2017
just2endowed:
If the income or profit comes from investing in risk free securities such as government securities etc, then the economy is doom. And these huge profits comes from the criminal ideas from the cbn governor.

Let's me give u guys example. As at last year, the cbn ban individual investors from investing in treasury bills if they do not have minimum 50 million naira to invest in primary market from the initial 100,000. These gives banks to take control of TB in primary market, and in turn sell to individuals investors in the secondary market after they have profit from it,and these business is traded everyday.

For others that keep there money In the banks, these banks will use ur money to buy these security in these risk free securities and there by making up to 18% on TB or government bonds after paying peanut of 5% as Interest on deposit
But there are mutual funds that accept as low as #5, 000 and these funds are aggregated and re-invested in treasury bills and other high-end investments.

Until there is perhaps a law that mandates children of political office holders and perhaps civil servants to compulsorily attend public institutions, Our university education will keep going through this circle!
I absolutely agree with this.
HealthRe: Itching After Bathing - I Need Help... by Nevee:
Mbkite:
Doctors and all concerned nairalanders, I really need to know if there is any treatment for itching especially after morning bath. I have used up all means known to me including, bathing hot water, applying aboniki after bath, etc. I brought this to nairaland believing to get a lasting solution. Thank you my good people.
You could stop using sponge for a while and see if the itching stops. Just shower with your soap (preferably a medicated one, say, Delta soap) and warm water too.

PS: The above has worked for someone I know. Hence, my recommendation.

Ekiti to Ilesa (in Osun) is so far that it's practically impossible to journey by road except by air.
Fela's authority stealing comes to mind "instead of buses, dem dey ride motor car, instead of motorcycle, na helicopter..."
PoliticsRe: Lauretta Onochie: It Is Disrespectful To Ask About Buhari's Health Status by Nevee: 11:28pm On Aug 07, 2017
Put alternatively, it is inapprorpiate for the citizens of Nigeria to be informed of the health state of someone whom they have entrusted their electoral mandate in a contractual barter to deliver the much thirsted dividends of democracy. Ironically, the sweat and toil of these people is being used to finance this medical vacation-cum-tourism (for like-minded governors and first lady). So much impunity in the land.

PoliticsRe: Osinbajo Condemns The Ozubulu, Anambra Church Massacre (PHOTOS) by Nevee: 11:06pm On Aug 07, 2017
This was very much expected, verbal condemnation (as usual), only that the Chief Security Officer of the state (Mr. President) is not around to pass the message which could have perhaps been through his special adviser on media. The truth still remains that our leaders do not put much premium on the lives of the citizens. I can only hope this case isn't swept under the carpet and when investigations are concluded, the actual perpetrators would be brought to book, not just a case of "na big man wey pass law dey involved". There is a moral obligation on our media too to follow this issue to it's tail end.

CelebritiesRe: Pictures Of Fela Anikulapo Kuti Wearing Only Pants by Nevee: 8:48pm On Aug 02, 2017
Fela's undoubtedly a legend by standard of his works. For someone who openly and consistently stood against the rot in government and more notably, a military government, that isn't usual. His affluent background is enough justification that he didn't do it for the money or any other material benefit. As much as I am not in absolute agreement with his lifestyle, I however feel that is not enough reason not to accord him the honour and respect he deserves. It is no news that Obama (at least) used to smoke and we never heard anyone putting such argument against his candidacy. Some Nigerian leaders in the past smoked in the public as they saw no big deal in it. Sadly, it seems foreigners appreciate Fela more. We've seen the likes of Jay Z, Will Smith and others committing to different courses to regard this legend of ours. I feel the Nigerian government should do more in this regard. Fela was a patriot and a nationalist and he certainly had a conviction of what was to come even though we did little or nothing to avert the crisis.
Fela's music made me more politically conscious, to understand Nigerian politics and governance better and intensified my urge to make appropriate changes. Little wonder the likes of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi were regular visitors at Kalakuta shrine. We should ensure our kids grow up listening to his songs. That way, they will understand where we were coming from (as a people), where we are and where we are going.

PS: For those still having doubts, you can start by listening to beast of no nation, authority stealing, suffering and smiling, army arrangement...in fact, I have lost count.

A Little Favour

Good morning all,

I was posted to Lagos for NYSC about two weeks ago.
I'm really interested in the Financial Services Industry and I have done a couple of things to demonstarte this interest - studied Economics (2-1), internship in a bank, almost done with my ICAN exams, always following events in the industry (news, market updates, analysis etc) and other relvant engagements time and space wouldn't let me mention here.

I strongly desire to have my one-year compulsory service with a capital management firm (Investment Banking, Securities Trading etc). The NYSC officials have made it clear that I will need a request letter from a firm in this industry before I can be posted there and this is where I need the assistance of every member of this forum.

I'm aware this kind of hiring in the industry is usually in-house and not necessarily made public.
Kindly help a humble and relentless pursuer to call that broker, friend or relative in the indsutry that can assist me in submitting an application to the right authorities.
Yes, I believe this is very possible.
Have a great week ahead and may God bless as you help!

Thanks a lot Boss. Been trying to send you a PM, don't know what the problem is. Kindly share your mail or any other form of contact.
Coolcash1:
You can just submit a general application since you finished with a good grade. I know quite a number of people who got placement in fortune 200 coys without any connection. One is currently with Interswitch and he was employed before he finished is NYSC.

I believe FAVOUR can also do yours if you believe...You can send a well crafted resume to at least 20 firms and see what will happen.

Please send me a PM and let's talk.

Good luck bro!
