In a landmark verdict, the Rivers State Family Court has sentenced 55-year-old clergyman, Piler Erekwa, to seven years in prison with hard labor for defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl in the Ndele community, Emuoha Local Government Area of the state.

The presiding pastor of the Glorious Covenant Church, Erekwa, was apprehended by officers of the Rumuji Police Division in late June 2023. The victim and her mother were members of the same church.

During the judgment on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, the Chief Magistrate, Ogeh Elkanah, ordered Pastor Erekwa to pay the victim's family the sum of N500,000 as compensation for the medical expenses incurred during her pregnancy. This payment will be made upon completion of his jail term.

It should be noted that Pastor Erekwa had already pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual abuse when it was presented. The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Police Command brought forth the charges against him.

The cleric had also reportedly suggested terminating the pregnancy, but the girl's family, who confronted him about the issue, strongly objected to it.

Interestingly, journalists were not allowed to cover the court proceedings, as the Chief Magistrate excused them from the courtroom right after addressing the matter. He clarified that the Family Court operates differently from regular courts and emphasized the need for journalists to seek the court's permission before reporting on family court cases.

Iyana oworo is a risky place to pick people cos many of those guys are armed thugs from oworonshoki, somolu/bariga, oshodi, etc.
Yesterday night wey I dey Louis Solomon close at VI around to 9pm, I was waiting for my last trip that will take me to mainland, I saw one and when I clicked to accept, I mistakenly picked one at Obalende underbridge and that one accepted me. I immediately cancel am straight. Though the money was good but hey, I don't pick anything Obalende. If you like, put 7k for a trip of 30mins, once I see say na bus stop you dey, or all these roundabouts, under bridges, anything that doesn't indicate street/road name/ location number, I no dey pick.
I always feel the urge to help people by giving them a free ride when I'm alone, but hey, God won't punish me if I close eyes and refuse to help. Human beings are wicked.
Imagine that man now, life just got wasted prematurely.

To clear the air, if you want to believe it fine, if you don't want to believe it, well you don't have to. The said girl came to the club , not only did she picked money, she stole wads of notes from the celebrants, and she was caught, while she was been questioned and coupled with fracas arising from some of her friends, she managed to run, she ran behind the back of the club in that late night, of course everywhere is so dark, she ran towards the newly constructing swimming pool to hid.... meanwhile opposite to the construction site is another road leading to another construction site. So the pursuers on getting to the junction btw the pool and the other site got confused which way she ran to, they came back to club premise to search for her friends who aided her escape...no body knew she ran inside pool site, probably got slipped and fell inside pool.…...I have the video evidence from the hotel CCTV showing her ran inside the pool site and the pursuers on getting to junction and turned back. Nobody followed her to the pool.....it was on Monday afternoon that her body was seen floating in the pool. If you have doubts, well it's up to you believe what you think, but ask your self this questions, which reputable hotel will allow someone to be killed and dump in the pool within their premises on a night with about 30 to 40 clubbers that witness when the brawl started... Am telling this story as my own account and as a witness that night! It was an avoidable situation anyway!

The police should do thorough investigation, this is not what transpired. I’m very sure those useless men tried to molest and rape her at the club but she refused, then they have no choice than to beat her to death. Nigerian men are beast!!!

Is she the first person to pick money in the club Why can’t the bouncers just collect the money she picked and send her out of the club There is more to this story.

The court should please sentence those useless men to death by beating.
