Mr Yomi, please call your account officer if you have a GTBank account for this information. Stop the argument please

Yomalicious:
You must have a return ticket to get PTA. Before I commented I MUST have been sure.

@Markab, go to GTBank, present your student visa, you will get PTA with your one way ticket

This is not true.

You can get PTA with a one way ticket if you have a student visa. Go to GTBank n get your PTA

Yomalicious:
No PTA for one-way ticket

@damLaney, is the personal reference code the code you get when you determine your eligibility online? If it is, then you don't need it again. Go ahead and submit you application.

damLaney:
Hello house,

As regards "personal reference code" is it possible to retrieve it?

I didn't note mine down and from all I've seen it will be useful at the end of my application after I've uploaded all my documents.

Please what can I do? Do i delete my application and start all over again?

I'm really worried please
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 10:32pm On May 30, 2017
Yes. Foreign currency drafts are usually treated using Dom funds except you want to use Form A.

LightandDarkness:
Do you know If they would let you obtain a foreign currency bank draft with the funds in your Dom account.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 10:30pm On May 30, 2017
You can use this option if you have available funds. You get dollar at a 360/ $ instead of using aboki. The bank will not transfer the funds immediately to the school, so you won't have to wait for another 1-2 weeks to confirm from your school. Immediately to the bank debits you, they issue you a dollar draft which you will scan to CIC as proof of living expense. At this rate 10,000 cad should not exceed 2.7m naira.

nairalandnewbie:
Please how can one use this to tackle the new cic requirement
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 3:02pm On May 30, 2017
Hello house, I just got this info from GTBank. You can get a dollar draft using FORM A (360/$). The only issue with this is that the beneficial MUST be the school. So if you want to use this option as proof of living expense, you will need to contact your school to find out if they can transfer the funds to you personal account upon arrival. I hope this helps.

Regards
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 10:28pm On May 16, 2017
@Edilanco, Please where did you get this information from? Please let's be sure of things we dish out here. Please go to Gtbank oyin jolayemi branch V/I and cut your foreign currency draft. Make sure you have FX in you Dom account. Its not difficult.

NB: I didn't get this info from anywhere, I work there.

Edilanco:
Banks don't issue draft in convertible currency anymore and u can't open a Canadian bank account since u haven't had ur study permit yet, so u can go for the last option of putting the money in your account and attaching the cbn circular or better still u can pay ur one year fees to the school
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 5:31pm On May 14, 2017
@Sokunji, if you apply for a Masters program in finance/banking, then you don't really need to justify much because it is believed that you have changed career path. 10 years is not a small time to spend in a field. I am sure you've forgotten everything about animal science. You will only need to explain why you want to go for this program at this time, how it will benefit you especially in Nigeria, why you changed career path etc.
Express entry will also be good for you. But if you choose to go for PGD for a finance/banking course or even Agriculture, you have A LOT of explaining to do. It can be very difficult to get reasonable explanation. You can check Saint Mary's University for Master of Finance program.

NOTE: Masters in Finance/Banking/ Management/ MBA in Canada are quiet on the high side (30k +).

Best Regards

sokunji:
Hello house, you guys are doing a wonderful job. Please i need advice on the course to apply for; I studied Agriculture(Animal science),graduated in 2004. However i have been working in a bank since 2006 till date. Do i apply for a masters in Agriculture or banking/finance? If i apply for a finance/banking related course, how do i justify it on my SOP?

I posted the above on Tuesday.

On the same day went we sent a mail to Accra telling them that all document was sent to them since February and auto reply was sent to that effect .

We screen munch the auto reply and forward to them .

We made them realise that it is their fault because we complied to their request so it not justified to deny the visa on that ground

To God be the Glory they re-open the case and requested for new acceptance letter without medical mail again yesterday

What amazed was that they changed his Application number and was given 10days to provide new LOE.

It can only be God

I think the embassy is trying to ensure that every applicant has sufficient funds to survive in Canada for one year. I just took time to read their request and I noticed they requested for only two documents.

1) proof of tuition payment for the first year
and
2) a letter from your school acknowledging receipt of living expense OR bank draft OR guarantee from a bank(hard to get).

To tackle this, pay your tuition for the first year and cut a dollar draft as proof of living expense or transfer your living expense fund to your school. Shikina.

To school in Canada henceforth, you need to have MONEY or FUNDING. This is now the reality.

Markab:
Now that CIC has gone wild grin, my wife(Ayoola03) was asked to submit a new letter of acceptance, coupled
with tuition payment evidence and evidence of living expenses as shown in the attached image

BACKGROUND

My wife was admitted for a full funding program which was stated in the Funding letter offered by the faculty. "TUITION for two years and 13000CAD per year as living expenses".

How best can we tackle this request from Cic? Gurus please, come to our aid ooooo.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 3:31pm On May 05, 2017
@Markab,
First contact the school to provide a new acceptance letter.
Also get the school to provide a funding letter addressed to the embassy. The letter should that the program is fully funded (tuition and living expense). You can also get a dollar draft of USD 5000-10000 as proof of personal funds.

Congrats in advance

@Sugaro, you can get a USD dollar or Canadian dollar draft from gtbank but you will have to purchase dollar from the black market and deposit into your dom account.
Also no bank will give a guarantee on your behalf to the embassy. They can be held liable if you can't pay fees in Canada.

Sugaro:
I actually went to Gtbank to see d manger and see if they can issue a letter but they said the highest they can do is to block the money In the account(hence it won't be accessible to u) and then write a letter stating the MONEY will be AVAILABLE for TRANSFER but CAN'T SAY if FOREX will be available only Buhari can say dat. Lol. However, they can raise a draft in CONVERTIBLE CURRENCY ! But FIRST BANK said they don't issue draft

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 10:18pm On May 04, 2017
@Austinpee4, don't you think it would be a plus to present a new SOA with funds still intact as at the time of application? This can further prove that the funds were not fixed solely for the purpose of application.

Just thinking

Austinpee4:
I don't think that will be necessary. If they needed a new SOA, it would have been requested for. Only provide what they request.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 7:43pm On May 04, 2017
@ tommee, I got admission with a study gap of about eight years. All you have to do is, show what you have been doing during those years. If its work, attach your offer letter to the application. Just prepare a good application. You will be admitted. Also choose a program related to what you are currently doing.

My 2 cent. Success bro/sis

tommee:
@Newman1010

Thanks alot i really appreciate this response i have always had the thought that a year program will always give you ample time to settle and really sort for jobs hence getting PR but do you know anyone who has gotten admission with a study gap of over 10yrs ?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Newman1010: 7:09pm On May 03, 2017
@tommee, check humber college, Conestoga and go through the DLIs on cic.gc.ca. There are so many colleges in Canada, check other provinces. Send mails to the department to determine eligibility before you apply for admission.
Also stop searching for only two years programs. PR will sort itself when you eventually get there.

@chimah3, nice post.

But what will be the content of the bank reference letter? would it just state that you have funds in your account or that they guarantee that the funds in the account will be used to pay your fees/ living expenses. if it is the latter, then I can tell you that no bank in Nigeria will give such assurance to you. Its like a Bank Guarantee and it has to involve the Legal department. The bank can be held responsible if such student is unable to pay fees.

What the embassy is trying to do, is to catch up with people that lodge money into their account for application and then give them out to the owners after application.

The issue we are having is that Nigerian students abroad, are finding it difficult to pay fees because of our exchange rate system and most can't find a good job abroad to raise their fees.

I think the best thing to do is to show your bank statement in dollars or other third currencies. Every other thing you wrote down there can be easily gotten except the bank reference letter.

Lastly I want to encourage everyone to pay tuition for at least one year because it will be difficult to raise your entire tuition while schooling. Also take advantage of this CBN intervention @ 360/dollar. It is not sustainable and can be stopped anytime.

Wish all of us success in our study permit application.

chimah3:
For those that got a letter from the embassy asking for additional bank assurance letter and CBN letter...

Please do the following:

1. Get a Reference letter from your bank or Sponsors bank (If sponsored)
2. Get your sponsor to write an attestation letter stating that they are still willing to support you.
3. Get a more recent bank statement (If you have a dorm account with converted funds PLEASE include it too and state in the cover letter you are going to write that those funds have already been converted for part or wholly for your required 10000 CAD living expense)
4. Attach this CBN circular that shows you are able to carry up to 10000USD (https://www.cbn.gov.ng/out/2015/ccd/money%20laundering%20press%20release.pdf)
5.Attach this CBN circular that also shows you are entitled to 4000 USD FROM CBN when your visa is approved (https://www.cbn.gov.ng/out/2017/ccd/circular%20on%20new%20policy%20on%20pta%20school%20fees.pdf)
6. Attach confirmation letter from school showing you have paid your school fees and Attach receipt if you feel its necessary.
7. Write a cover letter explaining all Ive said here, also write and assurance them that the necessary funds are available and you promise funding will not be an issue. (Future SOP writer please always spell this point out in BOLD). #Tip

When this is done...Please come and share your success story. It shall all end in praise!!

Please guys,

If you have submitted your TRV application and you are yet to "notify" the house, please do so as soon as you can. I am quite sure the names we have up there are not just the ones that submitted their applications.
Your letting us know has 2 effects : 1) it gives a timeline as to when applications are processed, from submission to approval. Thereby giving others a clue as to certain time frames for VO requests etc and 2) It also helps to monitor your application too. Atleast, if we see an application that is yet to see any movement since submission and is way beyond processing time, we can atleast notify you to find out what is going on.

It is a win-win for all.

May God favour us all.

Thank you
