Thank you all.

Eriokanmi:
In my humble opinion, by a return ticket for her. At times, difference in price of a one-way ticket and that of return isn't much. This is what you'd do. As soon as she arrives in Canada, open the return ticket. IIt's alid for one year. She can use it to return anytime she wants. All you need do anytime she's ready is update the ticket with the airline. With this, she'd also have an easy clearance at the POE
slimmsyyetty:
I believe you should be able to book a one-way ticket on a super visa if students could fly in with a one way ticket. Just orientate your mum coming in with that super visa on what to say at the POE if questioned...."THERE WAS NO RETURN TICKET FOR MY LENGTH OF STAY (MAYBE 2 YEARS) AS A SUPER VISA HOLDER WHEN I WAS SEARCHING FOR MY FLIGHT.

My little opinion

orjohn24:

If she travelling on a super visa she can buy a one way ticket since you not sure her return date and that why it called super visa ...print what is a super visa from ircc and she carry alone too ..With a super visa, eligible parents and grandparents can visit family in Canada for 5 years at a time while visitor can only stay 6 months .and remember the costly insurance requirement..abeg no waste ur money ..buy one way ticket and say she comung back after 4 years it allowed!

Good day everyone,

I have a question, please. If you have a parent who has traveled on a super visa before, did you need to buy a return ticket, or was a one-way ticket okay? I cannot book a return ticket for her length of stay. My mum will be traveling via KLM.

Thank you.

Yes, I believe it's possible. Why? Because we have testimonials right here on this thread.
But will it be possible for your person to do it in 10 months? That will be totally up to him and his learning rate. 10 months is a good time to put in full-time energy.

As for the school, the issue with Alliance Française (AF) used to be the speed of their classes, it was slow for some. I believe they have solved that with accelerated classes for people who need a faster pace, and honestly, it probably doesn't get better with a foundation from AF.

For the tutor, this seems like the best option to me, one-on-one sessions, no distractions, no sharing of the time with other learners, tailored teaching. It might be more expensive and it's more than important to get the right tutor off the bat.
The "wrong" tutor will be detrimental even.
So if he gets a good tutor, and is willing to do the work...

Hi everyone. I need your help, please. For someone considering taking the TEF exam and trying to decide between Alliance Francaise and IEF, what would your recommendations be, please? This person is not very buoyant financially and is trying to decide based on affordability, ease of taking classes, and success rates. This person also plans to take only A1 to A2 with either of these providers and then switch to a private tutor for the B classes. I need your advice please, to help the person. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

For someone that plans to take the TEF exams to boost CRS scores, is it best practice for the person to take in-person classes at an institution like Alliance Francaise or another similar one first OR can the person skip that and go with a personal tutor and self-directed learning from the beginning? The person I am enquiring for is a beginner, with no knowledge of French at all. He is giving himself a target of 10 months. Do you think it is feasible for a beginner that plans to use a personal tutor and put in the time to study as well?

Thanks in anticipation of your responses.

Good afternoon everyone.

Thanks for all the insights on page 1. It's been helpful so far. I need help with a few questions, please. I'm about to embark on this journey for my younger brother and I need some guidance.
For some background, my brother studied Computer Science, got a 2:2. He also has an Advanced Diploma in Biz Admin but he owns a shoes and leather products business. He is planning to study a course in Managemenet or something else business related. Can a diploma or graduate certificate fly if we don't include his Advanced Diploma qualification?

If and when he gets admission from a school in Canada, would it be possible for me to provide my bank statements as proof that I will be bearing his living costs here in Canada? I live here in Canada and I am a citizen. Would it raise a red flag if I provide my bank statements showing funds in support of his application? My dad and I will be jointly funding his tuition fees but we are not sure if all these would fly. My brother currently owns his own business but he doesn't have enough funds for funding the process. The expectation is that we would seek for the admission at a college close to my house, he will stay with me and I would bear his living costs. Also, I see that a lot of people here are processing their visas themselves and have been successful. I'm going this route too and I'm hoping that I can do it too without needing an agent or consultant.

Thank you in anticipation of your responses.

Just a note on the bolded text. It is really not a mandatory requirement when applying for citizenship. If you have a post-secondary qualification in English, you will still be eligible. If you can demonstrate that your university or college education was awarded in English language, then you don't need to submit IELTS. I'm a citizen now, so I'm talking from the experience of others that I know that went through this route at the same time as me. I used my EE IELTS but some others that didn't take IELTS during theirs used their degree certificate. It's even written in the list of requirements. Just putting it out there for anyone who is worried about this.
Prettiepearlz:

Two or more certificates as a secondary applicant doesn’t make a difference. Depending on the hope for a draw today, a CRS score of 478 is not bad. So if his Bsc alone gives you 478, you are good.

Your reference letter and fixed deposit certificate from the FI will suffice however, prepare for anything as you may be asked for additional document request.

Your husband should consider writing IELTS (my Indian friends will say he should “give” IELTS 😂) if he is yet to take because if he doesn’t write it now, he will still write it at the point of applying for citizenship.

Another way to boost your score is via your Canadian education but December is too far. So work with what you have on ground now.

My sentiments exactly. I want to play it safe with Ethiopian Airlines. My question is, if IRCC is saying they won't give authorization for immediate family, where should family members now get the letter to travel with? Why can't airlines understand this? All this confusion is annoying.
Chirolechick:
I’ll advise to try and avoid Lufthansa, they almost sent back a mother who is an immediate family, they asked her for authorization letter, it was horrible, Ethiopian seems to be the only airline that understands the difference between immediate and extended family.

Travel / Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by Newmum0615: 5:39pm On Apr 13, 2021
Lufthansa does not require a transit visa if you are not leaving the airport or flying through any other location other than Frankfurt from Nigeria. The layover I saw for Frankfurt is 3hrs, 10 mins. The longest was 7hrs. ET is usually 2hrs 45mins or so. I am planning for July as well.
maziude:

Nawa.

We are looking at July for mumsy; looking for tickets and trying to avoid transit in countries that requires transit visa. Plus, less layovers especially with the covid test period validity.
Travel / Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by Newmum0615: 2:55pm On Apr 13, 2021
So far, Lufthansa is cheaper on my mum's intended flight date. My hesitation stems from what happened with my dad's BA ticket last year. The ticket is still on hold because BA is refusing to fly passengers other than citizens and PRs. It was cheaper than ET by almost 100k when I booked it last year but since the start of the pandemic, it has been on hold. Awoof is running my belle right now. I am waiting to rebook when they lift restrictions. At this point, I am tilting towards ET cos come rain, come shine, they will most likely fly

@Lexy123 this and a copy of your PR card and birth cert. That's what others have said. She nailed it.
Chirolechick:
If you write them they’ll tell you she’s an immediate family and doesn’t need the authorization letter, so just print the portion on their website that exempts her as an immediate family, a copy of your PR card and birth certificate, that’s all Ethiopian airline asked for

Hi,

Does anyone have suggestions on good and affordable airlines flying from Lagos to Toronto at the moment please? I am torn between Lufthansa and Ethiopian Airlines but prices are not smiling. I know summer travel dates are crazy but any help on options is appreciated.
PS: The flight is for my mum, so I am particular about shorter layovers.

Thank you.

Hi,

I'd say that the documents you submit for every application will differ for every applicant. Even a particular applicant might need different documents at the time of applying depending on the circumstances. There is also no way to ensure that your application is approved. I will advise you strongly demonstrate her ties to Nigeria as much as you can and also highlight the funds available for the trip. Do what you can to submit a good application and If you believe in prayer, pray and hope for the best.

For me, I submitted the following:

1. Introduction letter from my mum's employer
2. Employment docs
3. Educational docs
4: Tax certificate
5. 3 months payslips
6. Salary account statement
7. Purpose of travel letter (Demonstration of ties & Budget breakdown for the trip was included in this letter)
8. Introduction letter from me and my spouse (we sponsored the trip) I highlighted our funds and her ties back home in these letters too.
9. My mum's saving account statement
10. Bank statement from me and my spouse showing funds
11. Photograph
12. Nigerian Passport
13. Application form IMM5257E
13. Family information form IMM5465
14. Proof of relationship with me
15. PR Cards (Spouse & I)
16. Client Information letter highlighting all the submitted docs
17. Marriage Certificate/Change of name affidavit (Her education & Work docs were in her maiden name)
18. Birth certificates for all my siblings (To demonstrate ties)
19. Flight reservation
20. Employment letters from me and my spouse including payslips

This is all I can remember for now, but I think it pretty much covered it for us.

Cheers.

Whew! Thanks a lot.

There won’t be any update until IRCC receives it. Visa application centre is same as VFS.

When it gets to VFS Abuja, they would send it to IRCC. You should see update on gckey account next week.

And don’t worry about the deadline, like I said earlier it automatically renews for another 30/60/90 days due to covid.

Thank you.

On Tuesday I got this email: Your application, tracking ID No. xxxxxxxx is in transit and has been dispatched to the IRCC Office through the Canada Visa Application Centre, Lagos Office, on 3/23/2021 2:26:10 PM for processing

After no update on my account, I sent a mail on Thursday, I got this response this morning: Your application, tracking ID No. xxxxxx has been received at the Canada Visa Application Centre, Abuja OC on 3/26/2021 10:46:57 AM and is in transit to the IRCC Office in Abuja OC for processing.

So I was confused on what both mails meant. Does it mean, they sent the passport from Lagos VFS to Abuja VFS after the initial mail said it has already been sent to IRCC Lagos? I chatted with an agent and the agent said the passport was sent to the Abuja embassy. I don't know which information to go with now. Is Canada Visa Application Centre, Abuja OC the same as IRCC Office in Abuja? There is no update on the GCKey account yet. Is this the type of mail you got?

maziude:

It depends on which office it was sent to. My mum’s passport was sent from VFS Lagos to VFS Abuja then to IRCC. It took roughly 5-7 days for it to get to IRCC Abuja. The same morning it got there was when her cic account was updated as approved. Also the passport was dispatched back to VFS that same day.

Hi,

Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes from when VFS Lagos sends you a notification that your passport has been dispatched to the IRCC office to when you actually get an update on your GCKey account please? So, basically, time from VFS dispatch till IRCC gets your passport. Mine was sent on Tuesday, tracking still shows in transit.

Thank you.

Hi Maziude,

Did you send your mum's passport via UPS or DHL to VFS Lagos? I sent my mum's own via UPS to VFS Lagos on the 12th and it showed that it was delivered to VFS on the 15th of this month. I have no way of knowing if VFS has sent it out. I am worried cos the 30 days timeline given by the request letter is fast approaching. How many days from when you submitted through courier (if you used one) till when you saw the update on the IRCC account? Thanks.

maziude:
Update:

We sent mumsy PP last week Friday to Lagos VFS.

It got there 2 days ago.

Today we got an email that it arrived at VFS Abuja and another email that it was being sent to IRCC. 1 hour later we got an email that the passport is with IRCC and under processing.

I guess, Lagos is backed up, hence the need for Abuja.

UpDate: I just checked gckey now, there is a document number and expiry date. I guess passport is stamped.
