Pidgin2:Is the slum in Nairobi? Is it attracting tourists? |
Senegalese singer Akon has announced he is purchasing 50% of Senegalese company Musik Bi to create a music streaming service in Africa that can compete with global competitors. Musik Bi is Africa's first home-grown platform for legal music downloads. It was launched in Senegal in February 2016 with the mission of promoting African artists, paying their music properly, and fighting internet piracy. It is therefore no surprise that is garnered the interest of Aliaune Badara Thiam (Akon), a music mogul who has devoted more of his time in recent years to his Lighting Africa solar energy initiative and other charitable pursuits. The super star now wants to delve into changing how the continent listens to music announcing in Dakar that he would become the majority shareholder in the service. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX0sY-bYWQY He said to BBC Africa that "The music catalogue is Senegalese music but my goal for it is to expand it beyond Senegal," adding that, "Of course it is going to be a platform for Africa in general to be able to distribute your music and be able to stream music as well." He even went a step further to launch his latest single "Khalice", a collaboration with Senegalese superstar Youssou Ndour, exclusively on Musik Bi. More than 200 internationally famous musicians, along with younger rappers, jazz artists and Christian and Muslim vocalists, initially agreed to put their music on Musik Bi, where users can download it using their phone credit. https://i0.wp.com/www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Akon-Partners-Music-Bi-To-Change-How-Africa-Listens-To-Music-1-e1503988018180.jpg?resize=489%2C300 However CEO Moustapha Diop, whose company Solid pioneered the project, said ongoing disputes with phone companies over their cut of takings had hindered Musik Bi's reach. After mobile operators take their share, artists keep 60 percent of their income from the service, while Musik Bi take the remaining 40 percent. "We have the ambition of developing across Africa and being 'the' musical distribution platform in Africa," Diop told journalists. "The profit made by the operators is problematic because it goes against the interests of the artists and the platform in general. We will keep pushing to get a reasonable deal," he added. The platform also hopes to broaden into a music festival, television channel and a streaming service, Akon said. Piracy and changing consumer habits have seen record sales drop across the continent, with illegal downloads tempting African consumers looking online for music while copyright enforcement remains relatively weak. Despite these shortfalls the super star believes in sentiments he shared at the Youth Connekt Africa Summit 2017 that the great potentials of the continent will be realized by the vibrancy and talent of the present day generation and that the diaspora should focus on investing and building Africa as it should be built. He is a clear pioneer of how the diaspora and current generations can contribute towards the continents development. SOURCE: http://www.barbaric.com.ng/africa-akon-musik-bi-music

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday spoke on Lagos Tourism, saying the state is taking the driver’s seat for the development of Tourism, Arts and Entertainment in Africa. Governor Ambode, who spoke on a programme on Ben TV, United Kingdom, as a prelude to the ongoing Notting Hill Carnival, said his administration in the last 27 months has made concerted efforts to fulfill one of his campaign promises to ensure that Lagos becomes the tourism and entertainment hub of Africa. https://i2.wp.com/www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Lagos-Spent-N106.8-Billion-On-Infrastructure-This-Year.jpg?resize=678%2C381 The Governor, who was represented at the programme by his Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola, said his administration was seriously implementing project T.H.E.S.E. an acronym for Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment and Sporting Excellence to boost tourism, employment generation and relaxation especially for the youth. “Under project THESE, we are resolved to grow the Lagos economy and empower the youth through several alternative means which include the tactical promotion of Lagos tourism, entertainment and sports. “Our intention is to put Lagos on the world map as one of the top 10 tourist destinations because we know that the hospitality and entertainment business is thriving and that is the reason we are investing heavily on this sector. The truth is that the era of white collar job is over. The ultimate now is to encourage youth entrepreneurship and create a platform for our youths below 35 who are the future of tomorrow; because when they are engaged meaningfully they would contribute their quota towards increasing the IGR of the State,” the Governor said. He also restated his commitment to build five new arts theatres across the State as part of efforts to engage the youths and promote tourism through arts and entertainment. https://i1.wp.com/www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Lagos-Nigeria-Hub-Of-Tourism-and-Entertainment-Eyo-Festival.jpg?resize=640%2C381 The Governor said the decision to participate in the Notting Hill Carnival holding from Saturday 26 to Monday 28 August, was to keep with the tradition of showcasing the State’s entertainment and tourism potentials to the world. He said this year’s edition also coincided with Lagos 50th Anniversary celebration, saying that it would also offer opportunity to woo Nigerians in diaspora and tourists alike to visit Lagos. “We are here again this year, the second year running in a global platform which the Notting Hill Carnival represents as it attracts people from all over the world. Our presence here is to attract not only Lagosians, but blacks generally that Lagos is now the destination that every one of them must come to. “Lagos is having its own corner. Nigeria does not have a corner, no African country has a corner here, we are using Lagos corner to tell the world that we are prepared to be home for entertainment and tourism because it would drive the economy of Lagos, the 24/7 economy in such a way that anytime you come to Lagos, there is something to celebrate. So we invite our brothers in the diaspora to come and exploit the beauty of Lagos,” Governor Ambode said. SOURCE: www.barbaric.com.ng/lagos-tourism-entertainment-africa

GE created the Garages program in 2012 to reinvigorate America’s interest in invention, innovation, and manufacturing. In 2014, Garages went global with four weeks of intensive workshops at GE’s offices in Lagos, Nigeria, using the latest in advanced manufacturing technologies. 3D printers, CNC mills, and laser cutters. Bankers hacked into customers' accounts, yet they kept the name of the bank where this fraud is rampant secret. Contractors who perform services for MTN were accomplices in the act, and MTN's brand name is the only one being dragged out here. Why are we so wicked in this country, and so criminally minded. You protect the thief, and then implicate and parade an innocent person by because the thieving bank whose identity you're protecting lure some telecoms contractor into their plot. |
This has to be the saddest news in the Telecoms industry since 2001. Etisalat came into Nigeria in 2009, and became the best network in just a few years. They did so much to guarantee Nigerians quality service, including going as far as borrowing FOREX to purchase world-class equipment. I have used used Airtel, MTN, Etisalat, NTel, and even the former Mtel, and finally stuck with MTN and Etisalat since 2012 because they simply were the best. However, when 4G LTE was being introduced into the country, MTN made me send a command of "4G" to 131, then I had to go to do a SIM swap at one of their offices before I could use the 4G service on my 4G device, both immediate Etislat turned on their 4G network, it just lit up in my phone without needing to do anything. That was how I knew Etisalat was the very best network of them all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWz7s7pvPH4 They added their own spice to the Nigerian advertising scene too. Amazing graphics, creative videos, funny skits and animation. They didn't come in to slowly and sluggishly climb the ladder in hopes of getting somewhere, they came into the country, and went straight for the throne, and MTN new very well that they had a good fight. https://media.licdn.com/media/p/1/000/1ae/221/3609556.png Customer Service was world standard also. All the issues I've had with Etisalat were resolved. Even when I once loaded about N10,000 for my data plan, and it used Auto-Renewal of my previous plan to deduct N2,000. They refunded my money back and re-subscribed the new data plan I wanted. Whenever I report issues via DM on Twitter, their customer care representatives have the sense to look up my phone number from previous conversations, and start solving my problems, but some other networks...*COUGH! COUGH!!* They gave me free tickets to Attend their Etisalat Prize For Literature last year, where Asa put up the most amazing performance, and also sent me tickets to go watch "Hear Word". They were very picky with the kinds of events and experiences they sponsored, and they really know how to pick them. The problems they faced with this $1.2 Billion is no fault of theirs. Borrowing N192,000,000,000 to pay N272,000,000,000 then finding out that because Naira has collapsed from N160 to $1 and was selling as high as N500, you now had to pay N680,000,000,000 it's quite a lot to handle. There are several factors to blame for the FOREX crisis, Buhari alone did not, cause it, yet cannot be absolved from it. There are quite a lot of factors which started as far back as when Sanusi Lamido Sanusi raised alarm in 2012, and those factors started manifesting clearly from November 2014. What I would have expected was for the parties involved to declare "Force Majeure", and approach the regulatory bodies (NCC and CBN) from way back in the first quarter of 2015 when the trouble had fully manifested. I wish them well. I hope that the staff and management of Etisalat Nigeria know they can hold their heads high because they did no wrong. They were the only network which risked everything to ensure they gave Nigerians the best quality services, and unfortunately, they lost it all. However, they should never stop trying. The name is gone, but the people are still there, the structure is still there, the driving principles are still there, and of course, we, the subscribers are still here. Adieu Etisalat. 0809JA 4 LIFE! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkLKYyTCMuY |
Well, I believe this is part of why the Senate wants to hear from the people. They want to know if the people believe they are the problem, and they want to know where the people want them to budget more toward. Nigerian manufacturers need to understand that the only advantage they have over foreign manufacturers is firsthand understanding of the unique challenges and features of Nigeria with respect to the needs of the populace. Power is a very important challenge in Nigeria, so any phone manufacturer should be focusing on 5000mAh battery. The phone I currently use, the Feel X1, has a 4000mAh battery, a 3GB RAM, and costs just N36,000. Battery power should be their main consideration for the AfriTwo, and for the AfriOne, price is very important. All the foreign products land in Africa with very juicy prices, then afterward, considering patronage, and how consumers see their product, they may decide to increase, reduce, or maintain their prices. This phone should've hit the market at a retail price of N25,000. |

Manager Jose Mourinho said Luke Shaw used “his body with my brain” during Manchester United‘s 1-1 draw with Everton and has told the club’s young players they need to “grow up” quickly. Defender Shaw, 21, made his first appearance since January on Tuesday night and it was his injury-time shot that led to the penalty from which Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalized. Mourinho Claims LUKE SHAW Was Decisive With His Shot That Led To United's Draw Against Everton “He was in front of me and I was making every decision for him,” said Mourinho. “He has to change his football brain.” “We need his fantastic physical and technical qualities but he cannot play with my brain,” added the Old Trafford manager, who sent on Shaw only after Ashley Young’s injury. “He must accelerate the process. Twenty-one is old enough to have a better understanding. He has a future here but Manchester United cannot wait.” SOURCE: http://tankosoccer.com.ng/mourinho-claims-luke-shaw-was-decisive-with-his-shot-that-led-to-uniteds-draw-against-everton
