grin Thumbs up @ solomonwis.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 4 by nicemax:
humanshado: @Solomonwis, ChriGo and Co. I applied for TRV online. What I am going to mention here are totally based on my personal experiences.

I agreed with Solomonwis that one could use Naira debit card for online transactions, POS both in Naija and abroad and even withdraw cash from ATM machines. I did all that both in Nigeria and several other countries among which are UK, USA, Netherlands, Japan and even UAE, just to mention a few. This is to show you that these cards are acceptable but with one condition. The condition is the level of security and trust from the country where the debit card was issued. On one forum somebody used a debit card from India but was not successful but when his cousin used his debit card issued by a bank in Germany, it went through. My understanding is that the merchant sets the acceptable risk. You may see 'credit card' only but when a debit card is used from a reliable source, it might be accepted.

Now with regard to CIC payment. All the debit cards I have used at one time or the other to make online payments, POS and even withdrew cash from ATMs outside Nigeria failed on CIC payment portal. I attempted more than 50 times ( I did not count, just guessing). What I did was to ask a friend to use his credit card issued by a Nigerian bank and wola! it sailed through on first attempt. And who said there is no real credit card in Nigeria? To my understanding, a credit card allows one to spend without having the money in ones account and pays interest on balance if the credit free period elapses. Credit cards usually have credit limits depending on the user's income or cash flow into the account and it could also be set by the user himself. My friend's card has all these features.

In a nutshell, if you want to make payment on CIC website use a REAL CREDIT CARD not prepaid credit card to save yourself from frustrations. Please anybody with additional information should please add or correct me please.
I agreed with solomonwis to some certain extent...because when I wanna pay for my application fee at u of sask...I tried to pay it with my visagold credit card from first bank...it says transaction decline...I called my financial instituition (FIRSTCONTACT) and they queried the card and told me that nothing is wrong with my card...I tried it again for over 20 times but it wasn't successful.

I used a friend credit card from GT and it was successul on a first attempt.

Lesson....all credits and debit cards cannot be the same...some credit cards may work on a particular terminals / site while other credit cards will not work on the same terminals / site. The same thing with debit cards. So no two credit/ debit cards features are the same as far as its not issued from the same bank...Financial institution matters a lot as regards to the above question....Cheers.

Nuendo: I AM OVER-JOYED AND SO PROUD TO INFORM THIS WONDERFUL HOUSE THAT I WAS ISSUED MY T.R.V UPON VISIT TO CDHC TODAY. I WAS INSPIRED YESTERDAY BY THOSE WHO WENT TO THE CDHC AND GOT THEIR VISAS. SO I PRAYED ABOUT IT AND BASED ON THE ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE HOUSE AND FAITH IN THE ALMIGHTY , I WAS VICTORIOUS.

I WOULD LIKE TO USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE, ESPECIALLY THE OGAS...!!!!!! SIGA, FHEMMMY, GBOYEGA-D , BUMDISHH, HUZZIE, JUST WISE, THE GALLANT EARTHGREENERS , 2-CHAINS , OUR CHILL-PILL CONSULTANT CHRIGO , AND MY OWN "NWANNE M NWOKE" AND PHOPHET, ONYE -OMA . I ALSO WANT TO THANK MY BROTHERS HEADING TO CALGARY AS WELL, SMILE13, DICTALPHA AND ONCE AGAIN MR.GBOYEGA D. WE SHALL GIVE A DIFFERENT IMPRESSION OF NIGERIA WHEN WE GET THERE.

TO ALL OTHER CONTRIBUTORS, I HAIL YOU ALL. TO THE SILENT MEMBERS , I ALSO HAIL THEE SILENTLY.

MAY ALL THOSE WHO HAVE EMBARKED ON THIS PROCESS HAVE SUCCESS STORIES AT THE END OF THEIR JOURNEY.THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN DENIED DELAYED , REPACKAGE AND RE-FIRE . YOUR DETERMINATION WOULD SURELY SEE YOU THROUGH.

FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL:

METHOD OF APPLICATION : PAPER ROUTE VIA VFS GLOBAL
APPLICATION DATE : MAY 2
MEDICAL CALL : JULY 19 (NO TUITION OR BOARD REQUESTED)
MEDICAL DONE : JULY 25
DOCS RESUBMITTED : JULY 26
TRV ISSUED : AUGUST 27

DESTINATION : UNI OF CALGARY
SPONSOR : FATHER
CLOSING BALANCE OF ACCNT STATEMENT: 13M
ESTIMATED TUITION FEE FOR 2YRS + LIVING EXPENSES : 8M +

OBSERVATIONS

1. I want to urge all those who are yet to apply to embrace the online route. It has an average processing time of 2-3 months max. You know your fate soon enough

2. Make sure you have your tuition and living expenses for a year at least sorted out on the statement of acc you present.

3. Your statement of purpose matters a lot. Use it as a means to buttress the reasons for your study there in canada particularly, why you would come back after studies and a explain any blank holes in your academic / life .

4. Sort out where you would do your medicals before you even get it. The consultant's practice seems faster because they don't require a pre-booked medicals.

5. This is 2013. This is the new millennium . invest in technology and information. have an internet enabled phone with a very sharp email client system . This would enable you track well and be up-to-date on current developments. This very advice is the most important.

6. Before you apply for admission or the visa, do some personal research about your destination, school, etc. Do some googling about everything possible. Also go through this forum from part 3 at least. With the wealth of experiences here. You can hardly go wrong. Some schools have a higher visa issuing rate than others because of the reputation and sheer difficulty in securing the admissions at first (unfortunately, this isn't speculation, i got this from an indian who applied from india and happens to know a thing or two about the system). If you are using the school as a means of "cutting out " from naija, cover your tracks well, and don't make it so obvious. Reading courses with no connection or relevance to your previous studies or academic history is an indication of desperation. If you however embark on such, please support your self with a passionate and very powerful statement of purpose. Give wole soyinka to write one for you if yours lacks the REQUIRED PUNCH

7. Finally , pray , pray , pray.

Because in the end, na who god want make e go canada go finally go.
we rely solely on his graces.

Disclaimer : The above observations were made by me not just based on my own application but on a careful study and analysis of Parts 1 -4 which I have taken time to read and study Back to Back to Back. However it is no place an instructions manual but just a guide .The suggestions stated above are hereby subject to scrutiny and further additions by the able members of the house as this would only add to the archive of information we already have here.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Onye oma: Bro,
Make I add my lil opinion though say I never cross Atlantic ocean before ooo...

As Faith would have it,being a medical hopeful, I've already applied for a VISA GOLD CARD @ 1st BANK of Nigeria Plc,waiting to collect it any moment from now. It is a stand alone a/c and is operated in dollars...opening balance $100...min bal $19...charge per withdrawal anywhere in the world $1.5...yearly charge $15...
NOTE: Some hotels and supermakets round globe offer discounts on purchases/reservations made with visa gold card ßuђ this is not applicable to VISA prepaid...

They also issue VISA PREPAID card(also a stand alone a/c ßuђ operated in Naira) and pays you in the currency used anywhere you wanna withdraw(just like mastercard)...charge per withdrawal #240...opening balance #3000 or thereabout...no annual charge...

I believe this can do a gud job...

PLEASE ooo, My papa/mama or none of my family members dey work for 1st bank...just advertising a product I feel might solve our challenges.

Besides that,1st Bank na MASTER...anytime anyday...

Other banks might as well have similar products, just walk in and inquire about VISA GOLD OR VISA PREPAID card...
U r correct....I have the visa gold card...it is denominated in US dollar and I used it to pay for my application fees in canada and it works perfectly well...you can equally use it to withdraw naira here in our atm machine.
It has an atm pin and I pin....it is multipose and highly accepted anywhere in the world.

Cheers.

I'm sorry about your denial, but just keep hope alive. As for the submission of my visa application, I have deferred my admission till September next year but this issue of $9,000 is what I can't burden myself with oooo. I will keep on searching if I can see anyone that is cheaper even Bradon university seems cheaper at about $7,000+ per year.If I get any, I will not hesitate to fill you in and in case you do the same in your own side you can also holla at your boy. God will see us through.I am also looking at schools in Germany because the tuition is free but the admission is a little bit cumbersome because of the language.God will help us all.
