CrimeRe: Chuks Okebata: Lady Narrates How Mum Was Murdered In Same Village He Was Killed by nickxtra(m): 11:35am On Jan 18, 2017
FlirtyKaren:
US Army Veteran Chuks Okebata was abducted and murdered at exactly 5pm on the 12th of Jan 2017 at his hometown in Imo state.
Okebata, who hailed from Umuduruorie in Umuomumu Mbieri, in the Mbaitoli LGA, was reportedly taken to Atta Junction in the Ikeduru LGA, where he was shot dead.

One of his Chuks' relations, also based abroad, has narrated how 14 armed robbers stormed their home in the same village - Umuduruorie, Umuomumu Mbieri, Mbaitoli LGA and after a two hour horrifying robbery, shot her dad in the leg.

2 years later, he recovered and was planning a grand thanksgiving in the village. Her mum travelled home to go prepare things for the party but ended up being murdered and till tomorrow, nobody
knows who committed the heinous crime.

Read her story below:

My mum, Late Lolo Ethel Ifunanya Nwaogu was murdered 12 years ago... in my village.... the same Umuomumu Mbieri with the late Chuks Okebata and the mystery surrounding her murder is yet to be unraveled.

2 years earlier, I witnessed the first and only armed robbery attack in my life! 14 boys, armed to their teeth.... 2 hours of torture..... same village! My dad was finally shot on his right knee. Took him 2 years to get on his feet again.
Mum only visited the village to get people to fix the barb wire fence they damaged and through which they had access into the compound, it was in preparation for a grand thanksgiving on my dad's behalf.... she never came back!

I don't go there anymore, my kids haven't even been there.

I have been traumatised for some days now. Is it a crime to visit one's village? Is it? Will Umuomumu Mbieri continue to loose great people?
I really do hope our security agencies get to work and expose the masterminds behind these senseless and malicious killings.
May their souls Rest In Peace. Still miss my mum and we will miss you brother (like I always called you), father to my little friends and hubby to my dear friend Cyndy Okebata.

Chuks Okebata's wife was in a serious battle with her husband before he died.

Clarification - It wasn't Chuks that sent his wife the naked photos he had of many girls. Cyndy his wife, reportedly got into his phone, saw the pics and shamed Chuks and the girls by posting the pics on her Facebook page. That shaming was what made him defend his cheating by saying he was forced to look outside when people started attacking him on his wife's Facebook wall.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Foreign AffairsRe: Breaking News: Gambia Mps Extend President Jammeh's Term by nickxtra(m): 11:03am On Jan 18, 2017

Resolution passed by the National Assembly allows Jammeh to stay in power for three more months, state media says.

Yahya Jammeh has been in power for more than 20 years [Reuters]

The Gambia's National Assembly has adopted a resolution to allow President Yahya Jammeh to stay in power for three more months, starting from Wednesday, according to state television.

Jammeh, who has ruled The Gambia for 22 years, initially acknowledged opponent Adama Barrow as the winner of elections in December, but later rejected the ballot count as flawed and lodged a complaint with the country's Supreme Court.

Barrow is due to be inaugurated on Thursday.

Jammeh had declared a state of emergency on Tuesday, just days before he was due to step down, with British and Dutch travel agencies scrambling to evacuate thousands of tourists on Wednesday.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria’s External Reserves Hit $27.2bn by nickxtra(m): 10:14am On Jan 18, 2017
kahal29:
Nigeria’s foreign exchange (forex) reserves have increased to $27.223 billion as at January 16, 2017, according to latest figures on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) website.

The growth in the reserves, derived majorly from the proceeds of crude oil sales represented an increase by $1.380 billion or 5.3 per cent in the last 17 days, compared with the $25.843 billion that it was as at December 30, 2015.

It was also indicative that the drop in militancy in the Niger Delta and rising oil exports led to the accretion in the forex reserves.

Oil prices settled up on Monday, as Saudi Arabia’s commitments to reducing production offset a report forecasting U.S. output would again rise this year.

Benchmark Brent crude oil LCOc1 was up 41 cents a barrel, or 0.7 percent, at $55.86 and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 27 cents, or 0.5 percent, to $52.64 a barrel, on Monday.
With the oil market entering 2017 with prices above $50 per barrel, analysts are optimistic about high prices this year.

Meanwhile, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo tuesday said the country needs to close the gap between the official and black market rates for the naira against the dollar “very soon”, as Africa’s largest economy grapples with inflation and the risks of devaluation.

“The gap between the official and parallel market isn’t helpful,” Reuters quoted Osinbajo to have told reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“If you look at the economic recovery and growth plan, it is the expectation that this is a conversation we are having with central bank.”

The naira’s official rate, controlled by the government is currently at N305 to the dollar since it was devalued in June. But that is still 40 percent stronger than rates on the parallel market, about N497 to the dollar, a gap that is discouraging investment from overseas and leaving Nigeria starved of foreign currency.

The official and black market naira foreign exchange rates will be “unified” this year, but there is no time frame for when it could happen, said Osinbajo.

Financial institutions, among others, have argued that Nigeria must allow its currency to float freely to solve its foreign exchange woes, a measure which has met opposition from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigeria’s lack of dollars has been exacerbated by a crunch in oil production, caused by militant attacks on facilities in the crude oil-rich regions in the South-east Delta region, and low global prices for oil, on which the government depends for 70 percent of its revenues.

“The current output is 1.7-1.8 million barrels per day and it could improve very quickly as soon as we sort out things in the Delta,” Osinbajo said.

In an effort to end militant attacks and remain “actively engaged”, Osinbajo travelled to the Niger Delta region for talks with militants earlier this week.

Additionally, Nigeria aims to sell Eurobonds worth $1 billion in March, said Osinbajo, rather than February as originally hoped, which could help refill the government’s coffers.

Yes, guaranteed power supply but from government. You have forgotten that the discos do not generate power. The gencos generate and send to transmission which is still under govt. Govt, under NBET, are supervising the entire value chain. They promised the discos that they will ensure improved power supply thus the discos limited the tariff. However, govt has reneged as usual.

Improved power supply is not a function of the discos but the gencos under supervision of govt. Discos only ensure that the final output get to you. Where you can fault them is if you're transformer is spoilt or if some other issue happened on your line. But the availability of light is not really subject to them.
There are so many faulty transformers and power installations under their watch across Nigeria, yet they don't respond to fixing these issues as at when they should, even at times, they even ignore you when you make a complaint to them. Don't also forget that they are expected to provide transformers to communities, but have they fulfilled this obligations? No. As am making this comment, I know of a community (a new layout) somewhere around Dutse, Abuja, where AEDC refused to give or provide them with a transformer, but the residents resorted to be tasking every landlord or landlady to cough out about 40, 000 naira to purchase a transformer. And later, AEDC will start to claim ownership of this transformers. Is this supposed to be the case?

Let me use Enugu disco tariff.

The disco proposed a 10 year tariff which was approved in 2016.

For R2 customers, 2015 - N16.44,
2016 - N27.13,
2017 - N34.28,
2018 - N34.36,
2019 - N25.40,
2018 - N23.27, etc.

This has already been approved in 2016 so they do not need to return to NERC or govt to ask for permission to increase as it has already been granted. All they need to do is continue to follow the tariff regime till the 10 years is over. However, this tariff was based on dollar at 199. Now that dollar is almost 500, they are asking for an increase.

This is same for all discos. The disco might decide not to implement the increase but it is supposedly at their discretion (or some arm twisting behind the scenes).

Hope that was clear enough.
I think this arrangement is subject to corresponding efficiency on the part of the Discos and at least a guaranteed improved power supply. This, they have not been able to attain. So it will treacherous of them to be asking for increase in tariff.
