I AM of the view that Edo people are in for the best time ever in the history of the state. From all indications, the achievements of Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia, Professor Ambrose Folorunso Alli and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole may jolly well be child’s play if Mr. Godwin Obaseki executes all the plans and good intentions he has for the state in the next four years. The latest of such plans came out clearly recently when the Governor disclosed in Abuja that his government would partner with the government of Japan in the areas of manufacturing, transportation, and vocational training for the youths as part of moves to make the state a manufacturing hub in the country.

The governor held that the synergy would also be in the area of technological training which was a major aspect of his strategic plan to empower the people of the state, affirming that his government would revamp the fruit processing company in Ehor, the fertilizer company in Auchi this first quarter of the year and at the same time, focus on the area of solid minerals. The governor’s meeting with the Japanese is clearly in continuation of his efforts at wooing investors to the state. While in Abuja, he held talks with the First Secretary Economic-Development co- operation of the Embassy of Japan, Gaku Sato at the Abuja Liaison office of Edo state. He used the occasion to re-state his plans to revive technical colleges in Edo State to help in the vocational training of the youths. The governor certainly is not resting on his oars to turn Edo State into an industrial and manufacturing hub and it is equally obvious that he is avidly determined to leave no one in doubt and no stone unturned in ensuring that his lofty plans pull through as quickly as possible. Obaseki’s engagement with the Japanese, therefore is aimed at turning the fortunes of Edo State that is hitherto known across the country as a civil servant state into an enviable one. The grand plan as it were is to place Edo state in the world map as one of, if not the most developed state in Nigeria. According to Obaseki, his administration has a key strategy for empowerment Programme centred around building capacity of young people, informing that one of the things currently being done in collaboration with the Japanese government is to improve the technical colleges and other training facilities in the state. The whole idea is to provide our young people the right education and knowledge for them to be employable given that most young graduates do not have the relevant skills to fit into the industrial and manufacturing sector. Without the relevant skills and technical knowhow many unemployed in our society can’t be engaged to work. In Nigeria, expectations are that government would just open up its doors and employ all university, polytechnic and monotechnic graduates. But everywhere in the world, it doesn’t work like that. Most Nigerian graduates just cannot immediately find jobs, not just because the jobs are not there, but because most of the products are theory- rich in knowledge but lacking in the practicability of the knowledge they have acquired. Having to revive the technical colleges in Edo State to also produce quality technicians as well as the development of infrastructure across the state would definitely set Edo State ahead of many states in the country. The governor desire to also focus on solid mineral sector in order to attract other investors to the state in the production of Ceramics as well as Agriculture, is equally forward looking. Thus, he is of the view that: “Japan has a lot of experience in growing rice and since we have a large rice belt in the state, we have looked at how to co-operate with them. Presently, we have over 70 investors in agriculture who would meet with me”. This is a crucial time for the government as it sets out to lay the right foundation and make the necessary contacts for developing the state.

Edo is blessed with abundant natural resources for all of these big plans to sail through. From the Kukuruku hills in Akoko-Edo to the swamps of the riverine areas of the state, Edo State is blessed with good soil for agriculture, several mineral deposits and historical sites for the tourism sector. In the agricultural sector, over 90 percent of Edo State land are fertile. A large part of land in Edo South does not require fertilizer. It is because of such huge potentials in agric business in the state and the successes of other farms like Okomu Oil, Presco, Ojeimai in the state that made business mogul, Captain Hosa Okunbo to set up a $750m farm on a 9200 hectares in the state. There are several mineral deposits in Edo State. Already, Dangote Group has been granted license for the Obu Limestone Deposit in Okpella while the BUA Cement factory has commenced production.

In Benin City, Time Ceramics have commenced production of floor tiles because of abundance of clay deposit in the state. Other mineral deposits are gold, copper, marble, crude oil, gas, clay, granite amongst others. One of the untapped goldmine in the state is its tourism potential. Its ancient capital, Benin, has historical sites that would fetch million of foreign exchange if proper marketing is pursued. There is Ughoton, a place where the dead believed to walk through to heaven, Okomu National Park is the only park in the world where you can find the white-throated monkey. There is Crocodile lake at Lampese, etc.Oba Palace, Igun Bronze caster guild, Igbesamwan wood carvers, Ogiamien Palace, the only building that remained standing after the British burnt the city in 1897, statue of Aruhan in Udo, and the river where Aruhan fell that does not flow neither does it dry, Benin Moat and several others. Obaseki is traversing the length and breath of this country and other important nations of the world to help in transforming Edo into the Nigerian version of Japan. He definitely needs the prayers and blessings of all Edo sons and daughters both at home and in Diaspora to be able to meet this worthy aspiration.

The government of Mr. Godwin Obaseki has started well by putting some square pegs in square holes from all appointments made so far. He has also taken a good step of keeping agberos at bay and letting them know that they cannot go around intimidating innocent citizens in the state which was the biggest albatross of the immediate past government. The Benin Monarch, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11 is also complementing the efforts of government in this regard by banning community youth associations and so-called Community Development Associations that were involved in scaring developers and investors alike from the state with their nefarious activities. All of these good efforts of both government and the revered Benin Monarch is certainly paving the way to take Edo State to its Eldorado in the next couple of years to come. They both need our unalloyed loyalty and prayers.

Car TalkRe: Understand Your Brake System by nickxtra(m): 2:53pm On Feb 12, 2017
Autofreeman:
What is It?

Your car’s brake system is one of its most critical safety systems and as such, it is imperative to keep it maintained and functioning properly. Doing so helps ensure safe vehicle control and operation under a wide variety of conditions. If you suspect any problems or have any concerns, you should have it inspected as soon as possible.

Autofreeman.com.ng

What Does it Do?

As the brakes are a very complicated system, the average car owner may not be familiar with how they work. You may have heard terms thrown around, “caliper”, “drum brakes”, “hydraulic system”, but not understood how they work together from pushing the brake pedal to stopping the car. A very basic explanation is as follows to help you gain a little insight about the brakes in your vehicle:

It all starts when you push the brake pedal. That force generates hydraulic pressure in the master cylinder. The master cylinder uses brake fluid to transfer pressure through the hydraulic lines and hoses to the calipers and/or wheel cylinders (one at each wheel).

The calipers and wheel cylinders use that pressure to squeeze the brake pads and/or shoes against rotors and/or drums to stop your car.

Disc Brakes or Drum Brakes?
Now, there are different types of brakes: drum and disc. Disc brakes are made up of rotors, pads and calipers, among other, smaller parts. The rotor is a metal disc that rotates with the wheels. The stationary mounted caliper holds a pad on each side of the rotor and slides to force the pads against the rotor when pressure is applied.

Drum brakes are made up of shoes (which function as the pads in a disc brake system) and are enclosed in a drum (which functions as the rotor in a disc brake system). The shoes push against the drum when pressure is applied. The resulting friction, from the pads against the rotor or the shoes against the drum, slows the vehicle and is relative to the amount of force applied to the brake pedal.

Car TalkRe: Here’s Why You Should Never Drive Your Car On An Empty Tank by nickxtra(m): 2:50pm On Feb 12, 2017
Autofreeman:
We’ve all been in the situation where you’re driving along, when suddenly *DING* a low fuel warning light pops up and ruins all your fun because you have to take a pit stop or detour and get gas. You’re either the type of driver that gets really nervous or you’re the complete opposite, relaxed because “empty” is just a guideline or friendly suggestion.

autofreeman.com.ng

Here’s what you should know, regardless of which type of driver you are. The warning light indicates that the fuel has reached the reserve level, which is about 10 to 15 percent of your tank’s total capacity. You can use that reference along with your car’s average fuel economy to calculate your remaining range, but it’s a good idea to not risk running the car until it’s dry.

While standing on the side of the road with your empty car waiting for a tow truck or walking to the nearest gas station and returning with a jerry can is embarrassing enough, there’s another serious concern that could impact your wallet. And it will be way more expensive than a tank of gas.

In your fuel tank, there is a contraption called a fuel pump, which sends the fuel from the tank to the engine.

The fuel pump relies on the gasoline in the tank to keep it cool and lubricated. Running the car with a low tank means that the pump isn’t staying as lubricated as it should and is at risk of overheating. The obvious downside to this is premature failure of the pump.

That’s a pretty expensive repair. Failing fuel pumps will lead to poor performance, particularly with a car not accelerating smoothly or starting at all.

Your fuel pump also has a fuel filter, which can quickly get dirty if you drive with a low tank. Since any sediment or dirt sinks to the bottom of the tank, the fuel filter could end up getting blocked or could take in dirty fuel, which also has costly consequences.

Ignoring your car’s low fuel warning is generally a bad idea, and running your car on empty can cause serious and costly problems to your car’s fuel system. Keep that in mind the next time your car nags you to visit the gas station.

What you mean in a nutshell, is that if there is a fuel warning light, there is still 10% to 15% percent of fuel in tank?

Kirksey, from the West Price Hill area of Cincinnati, Ohio, appeared at Hamilton County jail, where police claimed she admitted performing a sex act on the young child. It was reported by ABC-affiliated local TV station WCPO that Kirksey was arrested after a member of the public watched the video more than 1,000 miles away in Texas and contacted the Department of Job and Family Services (JFS) in Ohio.

It has not yet been clarified whether the child was Kirksey’s own son. India Kirksey: Ohio woman who raped 4 year-old boy The accused remains behind bars with a $350,000 (£282,000) bond to await trial. Court documents seen by local TV station WLWT claim the sex act happened “on or about 4 January”.

It was also reported that by the time the incident was reported, police were already investigating. Anonymous family members spoke to WCPO to express their sadness at what had happened and said that Kirksey had “special needs”. “Pray for the victim and pray for the family that had to be behind something like this and pray for her,” the unidentified family member said. “We, as a family, try the best we can to get therapy and talk to her about stuff and safety and sometimes you can only do so much “This is just not in her character, its not nothing that she would do … I know that she is being portrayed as a monster. “Anytime that someone is saying that had made some type of sexual attack on anyone I automatically would think someone is a monster too. But literally anyone [that knew Kinksey] would know this is clearly not her.” Kirksey was pictured entering the courthouse on Monday looking in a dishevelled state and wearing a prison-issue yellow jumpsuit.

FamilyMy Two Balls Have Suffered In The Hands Of My Wife, Man Cries Out by nickxtra(op): 2:12pm On Feb 09, 2017
She will not leave my two balls; always grabs, twists my scrotum until I beg, cry

A 75-year-old businessman, Moshood Adedapo, has approached an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to end his marriage to his wife, Balikis, for allegedly grabbing and twisting his scrotum. Adedapo told the court on Thursday that his wife, Balikis, with whom he had three children in their 20-year-old marriage, was threatening to kill. “Whenever my wife and I are fighting, she will quickly grab my testicles and start twisting them. “She will not leave my two balls until I beg and cry.

“Last week, she came to my room while I was fast asleep and grabbed my scrotum, saying I will not escape this time. “I was crying and shouting for help, neighbours rushed to rescue me, but still my wife refused to let go until I struggled to bite her hands and she released them. “It was after 20 minutes, I was able to regain consciousness; my two balls have suffered in the hands of my wicked wife. “Please, dissolve the marriage because I may not be lucky next time,” he pleaded with the court. The petitioner said his wife had vowed never to honour court’s proceeding.

“My wife went to my friend’s house and told him that I am sleeping with his wife which is not the truth. “The relationship my friend and I had built for a very long time, my wife came to add sand,” he said. He also accused Balikis of always cursing their children and those curses were affecting them. He said that his wife always accused him of threatening her life. “Anytime Balikis see rat, cockroach or wall geckos in the house, she will be running helter-skelter, accusing me of sending them to attack her,” Adedapo said.

He described his wife as a troublesome person. “My wife always fight with my tenants, friends and family; fighting is in her blood and she does not get tired,” he said He begged the court to end the marriage that he was no longer in love with her and that he did not want to die now. The Court’s President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, ordered the petitioner to produce evidence in order to continue with the case since the respondent refused to honor the court’s invitation. Omilola adjourned the case to April 4 for judgment.

jpphilips:
Obasanjo's NIPP birth over 13 power plants, that was the highest investment we have ever witnessed in power. The truth is that we don't need to make any power investments, the investors are supposed to do that but when a DISCO can not replace a transformer on your street, then the DISCO has lost it, that is what Saraki is talking about.
Speaking of Robotics prof who came to help us, his name is Barth Nnaji, he knew his onions and his competence was never in doubt, it was he who reasoned that balkanising the sector was the way forward, he did that successfully, that is why you can mention DISCOS, GENCOS and TCN, during the NEPA & PHCN era there was nothing like that it was his idea, brain child and ingenuity.

The moment it was time to privatize the setup was where the nepotism and selfish considerations crept in. Jonathan told us that Nnaji was removed because of conflict of interest, tell me, a Man who by himself built Alaoji power plant, running it perfectly, generating 114MW all by himself, he was the only Nigerian who built a private power plant (IPP) from scratch, how can Jonathan not allow a man with such pedigree to compete rather he preferred EEDC, a conglomerate of shops that have no clue the difference between +ve and -ve to bid, the man left with his integrity intact.
investigate the quality of companies he invited and tell me how we ended up with economic wastes. The man had a great plan with sound vision, if not for Jonathan's corruption, Prof Nnaji would have solved our power challenge. I wish he will consider working for this government again.

By Jonathan's standard, a man who has generated 114MW by himself was not qualified to bid but Emeka offor who has not seen a cable in his life was allowed to buy the whole SE DISCOS and you think God will not punish Jonathan? Where have you heard that a company will bid to buy an asset, when it defaults, the BPE restructures their payment plan, who does that? that was how our power assets were sold, knowing any sane government will not allow that, they tied a huge indemnity on the contract, in the end even a sincere government can not do anything, Jonathan's incompetence handed us darkness for life!!
The unbundling of the power sector was not the brain or idea of Prof. Barth. It all started from the power sector reform of the Obasanjo administration, which was being gradually implemented from the OBJ, Yar'adua to the Jonathan Administrations. I agree with you that Barth is a man with full knowledge when it comes to electricity issues, but he only midwifed the full unbundling of the power sector.

TCN was not concessioned, but there was a Technical Partner in name of Manitoba, but when the agreement it had with FG ended, it was not renewed, hence the current structure of TCN.

May be you live in a privilged area. A simple research into estimated billings by Discos in rural areas and semi urban areas will reveal to you how these Discos rip off Nigerians. I was once a victim, until i fought tooth and nail to get a premaid meter. It took almost a year before i got it installed. The AEDC man in charge of the area tried hard to frustrate the procurement of the meter because he knew the estimated bills from my apartment that was going to leave their revenue. At the end, i won the battle to get a prepaid meter. Before the installation of the meter, my estimated bill ran around 7k to 8k per month whether there was light or not, but with the current pre-paid meter, i now use about 3k or 3k5 per month. In a nutshell, Discos just have to grow up and add value to electricity supply, otherwise, i see no future for them.

What's this man saying? Is it discos that blew up gas pipelines delivering gas to power plants? Why can't people say the truth in their life? The power plants are down because they don't have gas and if no power is generated, how does he expect them to deliver electricity to homes? He should hold the senators from the Niger Delta responsible for not doing enough to stop bombing of gas pipelines in their constituencies.
For the past few months, I am yet to finish the Kilowatts of electricity I loaded on my meter because there's hardly light and I wonder how the discos manage to survive when we their customers have not recharged for months yet someone is still blaming them?
It's not their fault and as a matter of fact, they're more of victims of intense political power play. I support the government's move to move over to hydro power generation since the gas power plant is at the mercy of the miscreants that called themselves militants
How many household in your area use prepaid meters? If you don't know, check around, you will discover majority of the households are unmetered and they pay outrageous estimated bills where the DISCOs generate huge sums of money. That is the reason the Discos have been unwilling to meter majority of these hapless Nigerians.
