Music/Radio / Re: What Songs Make You Cry?! by Nickydrake(m): 11:15am On Dec 09, 2011
~ When You're Gone ~ Cranberries

~ The Scientist ~ Coldplay

~ Landing In London ~ 3 Doors Down

Songs don't make me cry, strictly speaking. But there are those that just give my mood a 'depressing' turn. Some of them are just plain mushy, others are, sobering.

In addition to the above,

Green Day >> 21 Guns

3 Doors Down >> Away From the Sun

3 Doors Down >> It's the Only One You've Got

My Chemical Romance >> Welcome to the Black Parade

Keane >> The Frog Prince

Blue October >> Hate Me
Food / Why On Earth Are 'maggi' Cubes So Hard? by Nickydrake(m): 7:30am On Dec 09, 2011
First off, i live alone, make my own meals occasionally lipsrsealed and all. So, why exactly do they make these seasoning cubes so hard to grind with the fingers? Is there some high tech innovation for breaking 'em that i don't know abou undecidedt? Cos i almost get blisters every time i make a meal, thanks to rock hard Knorr cubes. In fact, i'm strongly considering getting a hammer and chisel solely for cooking purposes. cheesy
So i'd like an explanation and a less painful way of making good food. grin Thank you.

Gaming / Pes11 Skills And Feints; Anyone Know How To? by Nickydrake(m): 8:55pm On Nov 04, 2011
Hi y'all, i find it diffcult, near impossible even, to make skillful moves like step-overs and such in this particular game. When they do happen, it's definitely by chance. Anyone know the buttons for the feints and the kind? PC version, by the way.
Politics / Re: 'Though We Are From Different States, Nigeria Still Remains Our Continent' by Nickydrake(m): 8:21pm On Nov 04, 2011
I agree that her grammatical blunders are embarrassing at least, but i prefer to appreciate the humour in their structure and composition, you know, like witty one-liners cheesy. Rather remniscient of some popular american figures like Yogi Berra(if you don't know where you're going, you might end up someplace else), Dan Quayle(if we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure. The future will be better tomorrow grin), and even Bush(They misunderestimated me).

This approach doesn't make her English acceptable or anything, it just makes it bearable. And all those trying to rationally explain this last slip are only making me laugh the more.
Phones / Re: What Happens To Unregistered Phone Lines by Nickydrake(m): 6:46pm On Oct 26, 2011
I wonder how feasible the idea of placing a deadline on sim registration and blocking of unregistered Sim cards really is, considering that sim cards will still be bought AFTER the close of registration, and they, of course, would not have been pre-registered. What would happen to those? I figure there will always be registration outlets as long as there are sim card sales. This line of thought makes a lot of sense to me, but i could be ignorant of certain technical issues and consequently, wrong grin. I hope i'm right though; I ain't registered mine. cheesy

Literature / Re: What Nigerian Books Are You Reading? by Nickydrake(m): 10:30pm On Oct 24, 2011
Read Helon Habila's Waiting for an Angel as an academic requirement and it turned out to be a good read in itself. Nigerian books do not interest me though. I've also read two of Adichie's works and i didn't find them as captivating as they'd been made to appear. The works are Half of a Yellow Sun and The Thing Around Your Neck, the latter being a collection of short stories with annoyingly abrupt endings that make you think 'is this it' undecided?

PS: I'm an ardent reader of short stories and i find it quite disheartening that this particular genre isn't very popular among Nigerian authors. If there are any good short stories by Nigerian writers other than the ubiquitous prose pieces that are apparently crafted for the most primary school kids, i'd be glad to read 'em.

Culture / What Impression Do You Think A Nigerian Don Quixote Would Get? by Nickydrake(m): 4:32pm On Oct 24, 2011
I imagine most people are familiar with Washington Irving's fictional character Don Quixote who falls into a magical sleep that lasts the better part of two decades. Of course so many things had changed by the time he woke up. So i was just wondering what it would be like for a Nigerian who encounters the same experience, let's say he went to bed twenty years ago grin. You could present your views regarding what you imagine his impression of Nigeria as a whole would be or you could use your local area as a more specific angle. Please share your opinions,

Romance / Re: Is It Ever Acceptable For A Woman To Propose To A Man! by Nickydrake(m): 6:28pm On Oct 08, 2011
Who wil finance d wedding?

Same thing i'm wondering. Proposing is a lot more than asking for marriage, it is a declaration of devotion and an affirmation of capability. So if a girl proposes, guy says yes, what next? He calls his banker and asks for his financial statement or she begins to raise funds? Just my thoughts anyway.
Family / Re: Is Boarding School Beneficial To Children? by Nickydrake(m): 5:13pm On Oct 08, 2011
I attended a boarding school where at one time or the other I had to pass the night in classrooms, benches in the refectory, cold, dark and damp laundries, the roof of the junior dorm, and most remarkably, goat pens in the staff quarters. All to get away from sadistic senior students. I had a mattress, but one senior found better use for it in adding to the heap of about four mattresses on which he slept, so I had to make do with the back of overturned cupboards, bare bunks, and on occasion abandoned bed sheets so filthy you'd think ‘twas the devil's own doormat. grin We literally lived like criminals on the run.

Will I send my kids to a boarding school? Yes.

Although it'll seem (or actually be) hellish while they're at it, they'll miss every second when they're out. Plus they'll acquire basic survival skills, Navy SEAL standard, if they're lucky enough to attend the kind I did. grin
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: I Hate Watching Barcelona Play. by Nickydrake(m): 8:11pm On Oct 07, 2011
Was so happy when Inter took them out last two seasons that I held some people to ransom with green and black bottles.
grin

I think it's fair to say i felt a greater measure of elation that day than when Man U, my fav team, won the champions league in 2008. It's that bad. grin

Okay, no one's asking them to "let the other side play", that would only be say, euthanasia. But they don't have to be so darn arrogant and dare i say sadistic in their style of play. And like they ain't good enoygh by themselves, UEFA's gotten in the habit of awarding them dubiousadvantages.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: I Hate Watching Barcelona Play. by Nickydrake(m): 4:13pm On Oct 07, 2011
I think Barcelona's a fraudulent, play-acting, and annoyingly lucky team. But that's as a Man U fan.

Rational analysis however tells me that those guys are the best team in the world, as things stand. Lawd! They get everything as close to perfection as it could ever get; their passes are sublime, positioning incisive, and they can pelt goakers with canon-class shots from long range whether in desperation or sheer sadism. grin And Messi, well, i;m not talking about him. I'm hungry. Just thinking about that guy gives me ulcers.

So, although i'll readily admit their brilliance, i'd rather watch two mediocre sides slug it out on a muddy pitch. It's called bitter envy, i think. cool
Politics / Re: Reps To Spend N2.5bn On Committees Vehicles by Nickydrake(m): 1:35pm On Oct 07, 2011
I think Nigerian democracy is more expensive than military regime.

Fashola builds a cross-over with 2.5 billion
Reps to spend 2.5billion on committee vehicles.

When will the Nass get things right?

I feel like crying.

@Ice_zik.: Thanks a bunch, Iive i've actually considered the android phones and i reckon the Galaxy Ace is a worthwhile purchase at that rate. I think i'll just give up the BB thing and go for the an Android phone. Sony Ericsson's Xperia Neo did catch my fancy too, but i'm not sure if it falls within the catch of my wallet. grin Any idea how much it costs?

I beg your pardon.  cheesy

Thanks y'all who bothered to present reasonable suggestions. @Lord Reed: What do you reckon is the least amount one with those specs would go for?

So this is an issue for the i-d-i-o-ts to put it on the front page.
No wonder Nigeria records mass failures in schools and job interviews.

ATLgal's response airs a very polite version of my thoughts. Civility (and censorship) restrains me from adding the liberal dose of invective you totally deserve.

Hello, I was wondering if one might find a brand new BB that features a 5megapixel camera (or higher) and wi-fi within the proce range of 30-35 thousand naira? If there's one of such, what's the model, and if there isn't, how much would such a BB go for?

if it ain't about how beautiful Vanessa is, it's about how susan won't love some guy back
grin
That's true alright, but one gets a bit uncertain when you consider the ubiquitous church choruses along with other songs officially produced that all revolve around Jesus. Think i should get some real statistics.
Phones / Re: What Depletes Phone Battery Most? by Nickydrake(m): 1:42pm On Sep 25, 2011
It's really mystifying, but i can state from repeated experience that merely having a phone within a 10-inch radius of yours truly would somehow set the battery power diminishing at a terrifying rate! I just can't say how i do it. grin
Religion / Jesus Or Women, Who's Been Sung About More? by Nickydrake(m): 1:30pm On Sep 25, 2011
Hi guys, I've heard people state that Jesus has featured as the theme or topic of songs more than anyone ever. I've read this in a couple of seemingly authoritative publications myself. The thought just occurred to me that if any other human or class of humans would rival that record, it would be womenfolk. There are songs and other such lyrical compositions about girls (women generally) in such great numbers that you think, these creatures have gotta be mighty popular! grin
So I'd like y'all to throw in your thoughts on the matter, any valid statistic would be nice, but i think it'd be a lot more fun if you'd just address the issue as it pops in your mind cheesy. Bring 'em in people.
