Thank you so much. That's why I asked the question here so people on ground can give a true assessment of the situation. I've realised that no matter what one reads in the internet , getting information from people on ground is always the best option. Thanx so much for this info. My mind has been on Calgary long before I got ITA so I'm happy to hear this. Much appreciated. maternal: This is how people get into trouble. You should take peoples advice, but also do your own research. Despite the myth, Alberta's economy while heavily dependent on oil, is not the only industry in Alberta. With a high number of seniors on the verge of retiring, a lot of good paying jobs have opened up or will soon. For example, the city of Edmonton is aggressively recruiting for new police officers. Within 3-4 years on the fore you'll be making 94k dollars per year. The Alberta government is hiring multiple positions. These are good paying gov't jobs with benefits and pension plan. The city of Calgary is also hiring and so on. The province of Alberta is more than just oil. These people moving out of Alberta are usually illiterates who were making good money in the oil patch, lost their jobs, and can't compete in the city because they have no or little education. Again do your research. But with Alberta's economy which is still better than most provinces even in an recession, and with fairly low taxes across the board, I wouldn't settle in any other province. That's me personally. Also I work in the oil patch, while it has slowed down, it's slowly picking up. But its not has bad as everyone is making it out to be. imo |

Wow nice contributions from you all. Thank you. I am seriously considering choosing Calgary but people are discouraging us because of the oil sutuation, they claim there are no jobs and a lot of people are even moving to other provinces. What do you guys think please? |

Hello please can you explain what you mean by 12 months not being up to One year or 365 days? I think people have used nysc experience which is 12 months and no issue. I need to understand your calculation please cuz I'm using nysc experience November 2008 to November 2009 need to be sure. Thanx. damidamsel: Hi All.... Please i have a few questions. I have just a few days about 5days left to submit my application as i just got my FBI PCC. However in going through my application to ensure no problem,I realized i have to change the noc code for 2 of my experiences as a different noc code fits better...changing from 1311 to 1431. The noc code that now fits better is under category C. 1) Can i change the noc codes 2) These jobs are not under my primary occupation, so will changing them to an noc code under category C affect my application? 3) I realized that for the work experience i intended to use as my primary occupation, i have only 12months (not up to 365 days) of experience noc 1112 category A but realized it has to be over 365days to be counted as a year. I intend to change the primary occupation to noc 1221 category B for which i have 2years in part time. Pls can i change this? 4) Do i go ahead with all the above or just create a new profile and hopefully expect to receive a new ITA in the next draw. My CRS was 456 |

My people do not be deceived please! There is nothing like working holiday visa for Nigerian passport holders. That agent is gonna chop your money and disappear into thin air . The only category of Nigerians that get work visa from Nigeria are employees of multinationals like Proter and Gamble, schlumberger, etc whom their companies are sending on intra company transfer. Please please save your money and write ielts and get in the pool like everyone else. Unless you want to risk it and dash agent 1.2M. All the best! keleto: @ Salford, slow bt surely etal Let's assume the visa comes out and verified to be genuine, without job offer. What do you advice I do.
Secondly, let also assume the visa is out with a job offer, but the job is not in NOC O, A or B (for sake of PR application). What do you also advice that I do.
Pls seniors, I need answers to these. Thsnks |

Interesting.please how soon can one drive after landing. I know most western countries require rigorous driving tests. salford: Try not to get one of this. This cost me $200 plus tax and 3 points on my license for going 18km/hr over the limit on HW1 at Medicine Hat. Canada has wide roads, so there is always this temptation to drive fast...lol. There are radar cameras everywhere. Its a good income generator for provinces. Sometimes, these fines triple depending on where you are caught.
I was lucky my drivers abstract history wasnt pulled up when my insurance was due for renewal. My premium would have gone up too if the abstract was pulled.
Most jobs that requires driving would set a maximum limit of 5 points on your license for employees, and its very easy to rack up multiple tickets. A work colleaugue racked up 6 points in one day...one for speeding, and the other for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.
There are many jobs outside city limits that can only be accessed if you have a car. Some smaller cities do not even have a public transit system, hence; you dont want your license withdrawn.
Another important thing to note is "do not drink and drive". We do this a lot in Nigeria. We get on the wheels after downing bottles of beer or wine at events or parties. Problem is how do you know when you are over the limit or the amount of alcohol in your system despite not feeling tipsy?
In Canada, dui is a criminal offence. If you have a dui, your PR would not be renewable and you are considered no longer inadmissible to Canada. It could cost up to $10,000 too by the time you are done with legal fees. If you have an American visa, you automatically become inadmissible to the US as well as DUI is a felony in the states. Lots of Nigerians(newer immigrants) are already victims of dui. |

Thanks a lot Salford and Maternal for very very detailed info. I appreciate I was just giving information I heard from the person that moved to Edmonton o, lol. The pictures are absolutely beautiful, Canada has such lovely blue bright sky and clean environment. I have been doing research and watching YouTube videos and Alberta seems to have captured my heart more than any other province Thanks so much pls keep the pictures coming to ginger us, they are beautiful! maternal: I think Salford answered all your questions. But just to make this clear again, THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANYTHING FOR FREE. If you get something for "free", you'll eventually pay it back someday (taxes). If not, you won't get a penny from them. The government of Canada is NOT a charity organization. It operates like a corporation with the Prime Minister as the CEO, and citizens as the shareholder, which the CEO (PM) is responsible for. They're actually blood sucking, who'd charge you interest even if you owe them a penny. Yes that happened to me. |

Well done guys!
I actually heard from someone who moved to Canada on PR that she got free household stuff from the the govt or some agency.she landed in Edmonton.
Pls I have 2 questions.
1. How soon can one access childcare benefits as PR? Is it after 18 months of residence? If that is the case one needs to plan properly cuz if childcare is about $1000 per month and house rent is about same. That means your settlement funds will finish in no time.
2. I'm wondering why most immigrants hardly land in BC considering the fact that it has the most friendly weather. Are Jobs very scarce or what might be the reason? From my observation most people land in Ontario and Alberta.
I'm wondering what major factors to consider in choosing a province and then a city, it's quite scary seeing as Canada is so massive.
Please share your thoughts, thanks! |

I totally understand how you feel cuz I'm in a similar boat. I have written IELTS twice now I keep getting 7 in listening which makes such a huge difference in my CRS points. 50 Marks diffence if I get 8. I have registered for my 3rd IELTS on 29th. I am so tensed up but it is not over until it is over. Pls gather momentum and register for another one. PLS THOSE GETTING 8 AND ABOVE IN LISTENING HOW UNA DEY DO AM O, HELP US BIKO!!!! Epudome: Can the draws ever fall to 380smthn? I'm just soooooooo sad my CRS has refused to go past 381. Myself nd spouse av done IELTS, I have done ECA bt spouse hasn't, but even if he does the ECA what significant difference will it make? I jus cannot go through the stress of this IELTS again, i was reading as if I had JAMB, at the end of the day i had LSWR - 7.5,7.5,7,9.
I thought i had nailed it, I was feeling fly with myself.....only for me to hear i need atleast 8 in Listening to boost my CRS.... Why won't they just allow me retake only the listening test....
If only I had Masters too.......If only I had a Canadian job offer.......If only I had a Provincial Nomination..... i'm tired mehn
For those about to take IELTS, biko make sure u nail everything... |

Lucky you. This IELTS matter is frustrating. Second time writting saw result today. 7 listening, 8 reading, 7.5 speaking, 7 writting. My score is 391 if I got 8 in listening it would be 441.
Please Has anyone tried remarking listening or reading? Since its multiple choice will score change?
Ild really hate to take this exam again. It's so subjective and not even cheap!
[qquote author=tollu post=54690367]
I used ieltsliz.com and YouTube videos basically and practiced a number of tests on both platforms.
I hate to write but know I can, so didn't actually write anything during preparations but one letter. But read tips on writing and watched videos too.
Bottom line, read tips, practiced samples and God ultimately.[/quote] |

Sorry about your results. It can be very demoralizing. I took my second speaking test yesterday and from the way the exam went hmmmmm..... The examiner kept jumping from one topic to another. She asked questions about 7 unrelated topics from swimming to advertising to reading and buying books.I was Wondering if it's the new style. Anyways it's not over until it's over. raymege: Just checked. The Result was poor. 7.5 in all except Speaking - 6.5. Still wondering how I got 6.5 for Speaking. How was yours? |

Pls do you have an idea about prospects and income for social workers? I'm thinking of doing a diploma in social work once I land. Psychology is my first degree. Thanks. shinarambo1: Then why do you want to go for diploma program? with all the coding skills you would learn in the HIM program, the max u would make as an HIM is circa 60-70k per year if you are lucky to get on an health service employer. Whereas a family physician in sask or alberta could make as much as 250k per year. The time you would devort to studying for a diploma could as well be used in studying for your licensure exams. It is doable... There are lots of naija doctors in sask for example. i was in a city called estevan south of sask, and out of the 20 docs in that city, 15 were nigerians. I begin same for Weyburn about 12 out of 18 are Nigerians. There was even a naija husband and wife doc sef in either of the cities sef. You would encounter Nigerian doctors all around the province and Canada...the trick is to start from smaller cities and town...Abeg no dull yourself ooo...
I know sask and i think nova scotia both have program to accelerate MDs into family health positions in rural communities or small cities within a space of 3 to 4 years. Due to the nature of my work...i travel alot around sask and over 50% of the doctors are Nigerians. You might want to research on those special programs in sask/nova scotia. I am not sure if other provinces have such programs.
Your pof of 3k in cash should work. Not sure bout the statement though. I converted mine to bank draft but they did not even ask to see it. They only counted the cash i had on me.
Modified:
for sask-

For NS-

Alot of Nigerian doctors have benefitted from both programs. |

Are the Nigerian businesses like nija restaurants, hair salon, etc Timhortons: Guys coming to SAIT, do you guys intend to stay in calgary after graduation or move back to naija ? If you intend to stay in calgary I guess you will find it a lil difficult getting a job with masters cos most employers find it difficult to pay master holders.
Lastly, If you intend to stay in calgary/canada start hustling for your PR as soon as you land. I am studying Power Engineering in SAIT (Diploma) though I have a degree in Geology from Naija. you will definitely enjoy calgary but their school here na die. Safe Y'all |

ECA- Nov. 2016: this was very fast as I submitted scanned copies of transcript and degree certificates, paid international courier fee to have WES send verification letter to my school via courier. Had someone who assisted with the verification in less than 5 days of the school receiving it. Everything took about one month. IELTS: Jan 7th, collected result Jan 20. LSWR: 8.5, 7.5, 8,8. EE pool: Created two profile on 21 Jan. I claimed 3 years experience in one and two years in the other as I have only completed two years in my current place of work, however, I have one year experience from a different company. CRS scores: 474 and 449 respectively. ITA: received on both profile on 8 Feb 2017. However, I accepted the profile with 449 as it may be difficult getting reference from my former employer.
I've been gathering all documents, and POF is basically the outstanding item. My sister will be transferring the money to me and I will appreciate if anyone can give me a sample gift deed.

Congrats to all who just got ITA. So happy for you all. Gurus in the house please I have some questions ild need your expert opinions.
1. I plan to add my nysc as part of my work experience but there is about 6 months break between my nysc and the next job I got. Now cic states the job must be continous full time or part time. Does continous mean it must be full one year in a particular job or if ure claiming 2 years it must be continuous two years straight without break in between like the 6 months in my case. Cuz I am claiming 2 years experience but there is 6 months gap between nysc and the other job.
2. I have a bank account in US were I've been saving dollars each time I travel. Though the balance is nothing near what I need for POF I'm wondering if I can use this account if my family in the US help me me with gift deed. Since i don't work in US will this be acceptable??
3. Pls what's the cheapest and reliable courier to send documents to IQAS Canada.

Quite boring I must say duppysho. But Australia major issue is your degree must match with your work experience and this doesn't favour most Nigerians at all.
