As far as your second point, I worked for many companies in Houston from minimum wage up till just south of six figures and never experienced either a hostile work culture or intolerance. Since the inception of Buhari's government, no country has shown much interest in investing in Nigeria including US except for the loans the government got from China after buhari visited several countries at the beginning of his administration seeking for those countries to invest in Nigeria, but all to no avail. I'm optimistic that the Atiku's will rebuild Nigeria's bilateral relationship with US.

I think starting out with penny stocks wouldn't be a bad idea especially for those looking to such line of investments but generally speaking,market crash due to many factors either natural or man made are real and when that happens,those portfolios existence are threatened and the devastation could be massive.
I would rather invest more in stuffs that are within my control.

Your really not providing much detail as far the actual immigration process. But whatever , it’s your personal choice. The process is not as simple as filling out a form. Nigerians are not straight forward people. When I read other immigration stories from other nationalities , they detail it which turn educate people, they just don’t make blanket statements and expect people to run with it.

Yea they do handsomely and it's one of the attraction working as a federal employee.
Most salaried workers get other allowances that cover up for those holidays and weekends as well.

Let me give a bit of context: I'm 28 years old, I am in active legal practice in a relatively top law firm Lagos and have been at it since I was 24. I plan to get married next year (my intended is also a lawyer of similar experience and exposure). So, I'm looking for an option that would accommodate us both. We're not necessarily from buoyant backgrounds but we're trying.

I try to avoid commenting on anything immigration because of it's sensitivity to my fellow Nigerians but if I may add my opinion,there's no legitimate way to immigrate to US from Nigeria for now except through family petitions and employment based which is rare.
But you may pursue some student routes if that will ultimately guaranteed legal status is what am not sure of.

Are you sure you are only entitled to holiday pay untl after 1 yr? It is very unusual, actually Ive never heard of a company restricting it. Like someone else said Americans don't play with holidays and companies use it to compensate or entice people to work it . For me Im required to work at least 2 holidays but the compensation is time and a half.

In as much as I love your enthusiasm and your optimism about your dreams and aspirations,you should know that those expectations are not just easy to come by in reality.
There are stiff competitions everywhere for funding and some of the conditions attached to such would probably turn You to slave working for them indirectly.
Beside,how many venture capitalists as you called them are ready to throw their money on some untested ideas and do you expect Canada to throw open their borders just because you have an idea ??..if you think in that direction,then rude shock awaits you.
Even when we talk about how easy it is to get loans from banks in the US doesn't means they just throw open their vault for you just because you have a business idea that has not been put to use.
They are many tech startups in Nigeria that started with nothing but they are doing fine now and progressing with some attracting foreign investors.Typical example of such tech startup is PAYSTACK.google them.they are less than 2yrs old.

Don't get what the "stupid conversation" was all about but immigration argument has been on in the US for a long time and there seem to be no end to it.America has been generous with their immigration laws/policies but a lot of people have abused the process,reason they are trying to reform it now and in doing so,some people are going to get hurt one way or the other.
For me,immigration is good so far it's done in the right way.

Yes I am in Nigeria currently and making plans to move to the US. Starting and running a tech business is my passion as Nigeria doesn't have the environment to encourage tech startups. I am very much concerned about the low number of black in tech in silicon valley and that's why am much concerned to know the reason for that, whether is die to racism, lack of interest, environment or any other factors and as people who have lived in the US, what advice do you give to a budding technopreneur coming to the US.
