The former Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, surprised guests present at the Muson Centre for the launching of the book of Sir Olaniwun Ajayi. Below is his unedited speech. Dividing Nigeria to give Biafra is not the solution - Sanusi Lamido Sanusi “Let me start by saying that I am Fulani (laughter). My grandfather was an Emir and therefore I represent all that has been talked about this afternoon. Sir Ajayi has written a book. And like all Nigerians of his generation, he has written in the language of his generation. “My grandfather was a Northerner, I am a Nigerian. The problem with this country is that in 2009, we speak in the language of 1953. Sir Olaniwun can be forgiven for the way he spoke, but I cannot forgive people of my generation speaking in that language. “Let us go into this issue because there are so many myths that are being bandied around. Before colonialism, there was nothing like Northern Nigeria, Before the Sokoto Jihad, there was nothing like the Sokoto caliphate. The man from Kano regard himself as bakane. The man from Zaria was bazazzage. The man from Katsina was bakatsine. The kingdoms were at war with each other. They were Hausas, they were Muslims, they were killing each other. “The Yoruba were Ijebu, Owo, Ijesha, Akoko, Egba. When did they become one? When did the North become one? You have the Sokoto Caliphate that brought every person from Adamawa to Sokoto and said it is one kingdom. They now said it was a Muslim North. “The Colonialists came, put that together and said it is now called the Northern Nigeria. Do you know what happened? Our grand fathers were able to transform to being Northerners. We have not been able to transform to being Nigerians. The fault is ours. Tell me, how many governors has South West produced after Awolowo that are role models of leadership? How many governors has the East produced like Nnamdi Azikiwe that can be role models of leadership? How Many governors in the Niger Delta are role models of leadership? Tell me. There is no evidence statistically that any part of this country has produced good leaders. You talk about Babangida and the economy. Who were the people in charge of the economy during Babangida era? Olu Falae, Kalu Idika Kalu. What state are they from in the North? “We started the banking reform; the first thing I heard was that in Urobo land, that there will be a curse of the ancestors. I said they (ancestors) would not answer. They said why? I said how many factories did Ibru build in Urobo land? So, why will the ancestors of the Urobo people support her? “We talk ethnicity when it pleases us. It is hypocrisy. You said elections were rigged in 1959, Obasanjo and Maurice Iwu rigged election in 2007. Was it a Southern thing? It was not. “The problem is: everywhere in this country, there is one Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba and Itshekiri man whose concern is how to get his hands on the pile and how much he can steal. Whether it is in the military or in the civilian government, they sit down, they eat together. In fact, the constitution says there must be a minister from every state.” “So, anybody that is still preaching that the problem of Nigeria is Yoruba or Hausa or Fulani, he does not love Nigeria . The problem with Nigeria is that a group of people from each and every ethnic tribe is very selfish. The poverty that is found in Maiduguri is evenworse than any poverty that you find in any part of the South. The British came for 60 years and Sir Ajayi talked about few numbers of graduates in the North (two at independence) . What he did not say was that there was a documented policy of the British when they came that the Northerner should not be educated. It was documented. It was British colonial policy. I have the document. I have published articles on it. That if you educate the Northerner you will produce progressive Muslim intellectuals of the type we have in Egypt and India. So, do not educate them. It was documented. And you say they love us (North). “I have spent the better part of my life to fight and Dr. (Reuben) Abati knows me. Yes, my grandfather was an Emir. Why was I in the pro-democracy movement fighting for June 12? Is (Moshood) Abiola from Kano ? Why am I a founding director of the Kudirat Initiative for Nigerian Development (KIND)? “There are good Yoruba people, good Igbo people, good Fulani people, good Nigerians and there are bad people everywhere. That is the truth. “Stop talking about dividing Nigeria because we are not the most populous country in the world. We have all the resources that make it easy to make one united great Nigeria . It is better if we are united than to divide it. “Every time you talk about division, when you restructure, do you know what will happen? In Delta Area, the people in Warri will say Agbor, you don’t have oil. When was the Niger Delta constructed as a political entity? Ten years ago, the Itshekiris were fighting the Urobos. Isn’t that what was happening? Now they have become Niger Delta because they have found oil. After, it will be, if you do not have oil in your village then you cannot share our resources. “There is no country in the world where resources are found in everybody’s hamlet. But people have leaders and they said if you have this geography and if we are one state, then we have a responsibility for making sure that the people who belong to this country have a good nature. “So, why don’t you talk about; we don’t have infrastructure, we don’t have education, we don’t have health. We are still talking about Fulani. Is it the Fulani cattle rearer or is anybody saying there is no poverty among the Fulani?”, he said.This is a great message to our generation. Afeni Shakur, the mother of the late Tupac Shakur, was found dead at her home in Sausalito, CA. Police arrived to her home Monday night after she suffered a possible cardiac arrest. She was taken to a local hospital and died just before 10:30 p.m. Afeni’s death comes less than 2 months after her estranged husband, Gust Davis, tried to get his hands on Tupac’s estate. After Afeni filed for divorce after 12 years of marriage in March, Gust asked the court to give him their 50-acre North Carolina ranch, their houseboats, a Jaguar, and half of Tupac’s estate (which equaled out to a payment of $10K a month.) Hillary Clinton, who was then secretary of state, says she believes the Pakistanis knew bin Laden was hiding in their country, but that the United States was unable to prove the suspicion. "There was never any evidence that we could uncover that led directly to the top of the Pakistani military and intelligence service," Clinton told CNN in a primetime special on the raid set to air Monday. "I believe Pakistanis knew. I believe Pakistanis either in service or retired or both knew." The CIA marked the fifth anniversary of the daring raid that killed Osama bin Laden by revealing some little-known details about the operation — in real-time on Twitter. Over a series of tweets posted to its verified Twitter feed Sunday, the agency gave its 1.3 million Twitter followers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how the mission unfolded. The timing of the posts more or less matched the CIA's official timeline of the assault on the al-Qaida leader's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Anti-slavery crusader Harriet Tubman will become the first African-American on the face of U.S. paper currency, and the first woman in more than a century, when she replaces former President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. The U.S. Treasury Department said on Wednesday that Tubman, who was born into slavery in the early 1820s and went on to help hundreds of slaves escape, would take the center spot on the bill, while Jackson, a slave owner, would move to the back. Introduced alongside a slew of changes to the $5 and $10 notes as well, the redesign gives the Treasury "a chance to open the aperture to reflect more of America's history," Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said. A new $10 bill will add images of five female leaders of the women's suffrage movement, including Sojourner Truth and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, to the back, while keeping founding father Alexander Hamilton on the front. The reverse of a new $5 note will show former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., officials said. Former President Abraham Lincoln will remain on the front. Lew said the designs should be unveiled by 2020 and go into circulation "as quickly as possible," although he declined to say when. He said the $10 bill was scheduled to go out first, citing security needs. The long-awaited decision to replace the seventh president of the United States with Tubman followed months of outreach by the Treasury regarding which woman should be featured on a bill. The debate began when the Treasury announced plans in June to feature a woman on the $10 note, prompted partly by a young girl's letter to President Barack Obama that criticized the lack of women on U.S. currency and a social media campaign last year called "Women on 20s." A MUSICAL Hamilton’s growing celebrity status, due largely to a Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical about his life, “Hamilton,” created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, propelled an effort to keep the first U.S. Treasury secretary on the $10 note and to replace Jackson on the $20 bill instead. Jackson, a hero of the War of 1812's Battle of New Orleans, was president from 1829-1837. But he has been criticized for his treatment of American Indians and ownership of slaves. After considering hundreds of candidates, Lew said Tubman was chosen for her leadership and work helping others. "It's the essential story of American democracy about how one person who grew up in slavery, never had the benefit of learning how to read or write, could change the course of history," he said. Tubman grew up working on a Maryland plantation and escaped in her late 20s. She returned to the South to help hundreds of black slaves to freedom and worked as a Union spy during the Civil War. She died in 1913. Women have not been depicted on U.S. bills since Martha Washington, who was on the $1 silver certificate from 1891 to 1896, and Pocahontas, who was in a group picture on the $20 bill from 1865 to 1869. On coins, Sacagawea, a Native American who assisted the Lewis and Clark Expedition, is featured on the gold dollar, and suffragist Susan B. Anthony is on the silver dollar. Deaf-blind author and activist Helen Keller is on the back of the Alabama quarter. Tubman became the top-trending hashtag on Twitter shortly after the news broke on Wednesday, with more than 100,000 tweets and mentions online. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who is campaigning to become the first female U.S. president, praised Tubman as "a woman, a leader, and a freedom fighter" on Twitter and said she could not think of a better choice. Nigeria will most likely fight another deadly civil war....but this time, it won't be between Biafra and Nigeria....but Fulani/supporters vs other aggrieved tribes. The only way to stop this now is for the federal government to bring a lasting solution that will sincerely prohibit fulani herdsmen from grazing on host communities' farms. Remember, what causes war is when people are pushed to the wall via unnecessarily killing and insecurity, they will have no other option than to fight to die or live. When Syrian President Asaad started clamping down on protesters some 5-6 years ago, he never foresaw war or believed that some Syrians will finally gather liver to pick up arms to fight the government military forces against all odds. It can still happen in Nigeria again....no country is above war....insecurity and biased killing of a particular set of people always lead to war. People close to Buhari should warn him....its not a laughing matter....2016 isn't 1966 |

The photo was supposed to be an innocent selfie for her family. But the poor lady was SHOCKED when she later found out what's in selfie background. After snapping herself in front of her bathroom mirror, the girl sent the photo to her brother and parents. But unfortunately for her, she’d forgotten to remove two intimacy gadgets from above the toilet. Her brother was very entertained by the blunder. But rather than keep the joke private, he decided to share the image on sharing site Imgur. The text message grabs begin with the woman sending a picture to a text message group, which has been titled 'fam'. She explains she’s just styled her hair before heading off to an interview. Her brother starts poking fun at her ‘freckles’ and ‘weird face’, not spotting the two intimacy gadgets in the background. DrayZee:Miracle just happened....the boy had been crying and refused eating since he checked his JAMB result according to the mom, which was one of the reasons everybody wanted to do anything possible to ensure he gets admission this year, and I was already considering schooling abroad but we all are afraid of that....but then God did wonders yesterday. I just received a call from the boy that his real JAMB result has been released by JAMB because they had issue at their center, so the system submitted their test without completing it...and one of the JAMB officials at their center on the day of the exam called Abuja central server office to report the issue....so finally, JAMB recalculated their result because it was only 40 questions that was automatically submitted initially according to the little boy....he's so brilliant everybody was worried how come... So...his real JAMB score now is 240.....and his personal instructor is still not satisfied because the boy is good and in fact, deserve to win JAMB award of best candidate. So all issues solved....thank you to all that contributed to this thread...thank you....God bless you all...God still does miracle to those that believe and trust in Him....God just answered the little boy's innocent prayers, may God be praised forever!! |
