I told you stupidity is your problem. I knew very soon if you kept arguing and trying to prove your hate filled point, you'll rope yourself in.

You claimed riley and webb where consistent in the penalties they awarded United....fine!
Then you claimed that the consistency is so glaring, there's a shade of favoritism..clap for yourself!
Then we then told you that we were not dominant based on those penalties and you said that is not your point, your point is that these referees where too consistent? Fantastic.
Now you went to argue against yourself by claiming that 1 in every 6 penalty awarded by Riley was osho free....Excellent? (Was the argument not consistency in giving one team penalties and not whether the penalties were dubious?)

Seeing that your 2byte brain couldn't keep up with the old argument, let's stick to the new one.

Please educate us- how many penalties can Riley award united in a season?....6 i guess by your estimation
If by your new argument every 5 is deserved....who do we blame? the opposing team who cannot seem to stop committing them or you brainless fan who cannot come to terms with one lapse in 6 penalties?

Hatred is a disease, it starves the brain of Reasoning
This is both shameful and painful to read...especially when the post you quoted is as clear as daylight.

I still don't know why you're bringing insults into it though...

Anyway...goodnight.

What percentage of these pens were not deserved?
That's an interesting question...but that would lead us into a discussion of wider referee intimidation that I don't have the appetite or energy for tonight...

If you scroll to the previous page, I listed at least two dodgy instances where Mark Riley gave penalties...one of which Alex Ferguson agreed wasn't a penalty, and the other, Gary Neville who was playing on the day would go on to describe as "dubious".

If I had the time, I could probably list a few more, but based on the admissions from the Manyoo camp in these instances.. 1 in every 6 penalties that Riley awarded Manyoo was an osho free.

Those are phenomenal odds bro.

I am not arguing with you just pointing out how ridiculous it is to point to 2 refs as the reasons for a clubs dominance or lack of same.

Chelsea has won the EPL 4 times, Arsenal 3 times, United has won with 10 points gap or more 4 times. That level of dominance was not due to Riley, and Manchester United's win % in matches officiated by Riley was not even stellar.
The stats do not support your claims.
I will wire you 200 pounds right now if you can bring out any of my posts today that matches what you've described up there grin

I think like ChristineC, you've completely misunderstood my posts.

All I did was point out the incredible consistency of these two particular men when it comes to United...

Howard Webb in particular went 4 straight seasons without awarding a Penalty in thr games he reffed vs Chelsea, and 5 straight seasons vs Arsenal.

He never went consecutive seasons without giving United at least 1 penalty. That's just remarkable. Even the weather is not so predictable.

Are all the matches officiated by just these 2 refs?
That's why I only spoke about the matches referereed by those 2 refs...both of whom have a spectacular record when reffing United games.

Riley gave Manyoo 12 penalties in 23 games, including 8 straight pens in 8 consecutive OTF appearances. That's better than 1 pen every two games guaranteed.

Howard Webb was giving 1 pen in every 3 Manyoo games he officiated....

What is the point of this? Is it to prove that some refs favour certain clubs? We know that. .
So why are you arguing then? wink

. There are refs that favour Chelsea too
Perhaps, but how many of them are General Managers at PGMOL? cheesy

You are wrong in this. I believe u know that as well but you are just trolling.
No serious fan who has been following EPL from the 90s will subscribe to your position. The eye test says you are wrong. United were very dominant in those years and won some seasons with double digit points difference. The stats also say that you are wrong as United have been awarded the least number of penalties of all the big clubs over the last 14yrs.
Conspiracy theorists would always have an excuse and a fall back explanation so of course every little advantage in Uniteds favour is overblown while those calls that go in favour of other clubs are swept under the carpet.
Ferguson that spent most of his adult life beating clubs like Real Madrid , Barcelona and Bayern Munich in finals with usually weaker teams needed Howard Webb and Mike Riley to boss the EPL when in most years he had the best squad?
U must be joking, just bow to the man grin

Yes but he wasnt effective in the previous season because like you said he was drifting wide(presumably playing to coach instruction), So if he is more effective now by staying in the box then the new coach deserves credit
The previous season Costa had been mostly central and scored most of his goals from inside the box...at least in my recollection. I will need to look up the stats to confirm.

Costa wasn't drifting wide last season dUEFA to managers instruction. I seem to remember Jose actually criticising his movement in a press conference...and of course he got dropped in the end.

Last season was a horrific car crash, with failures all over the pitch so I don't think we can use it as a reliable reference point re Costa.

What I do remember saying was how Costa being overweight and unfit last season was leading him to drift out wide to find space because centre-back were eating him alive.

I'm not sure I can honestly credit Conte with a tactical improvement to Costa's form. At most i'll say he has maybe improved overall fitness levels for the team...then again, is that too hard?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Nihilist: 5:06pm On Oct 14, 2016
I hope Conte was paying attention to Ranieri's press conference.

Ranieri hinted that he's been training Vardy-Slimani-Mahrez in isolation as a single unit.

I'm guessing that we might square up to something closer to a 433 tommorow.

Vardy or Mahrez must not be allowed to catch Cahill or Luiz in thr channels under any circumstances

And you dont think that is a tactical change that made him stay more in the box? I think you have something against Conte and deliberately refused to give him any credit for anything even the obvious

Some coaches prefer their striker to just knock down balls, Some prefer their strikers to pull out wide, dragging the CB's along to make room for midfielders and some just prefer the old way of stick in the box

Players most times play to coaches instruction, If Costa is doing what he wasnt last yr I will think its the coach input
But Costa was already a good striker before Conte.

If sheer stupidity is not your problem, you would know that the united that dominated England for years was a high attacking team. Those united teams would camp in the opponent half all day and these led to opponent defenders making stupid errors. I wouldn't blame you if you don't know this. For most parts of your clubs triumph, it was usually defend first (PARK THE BUS) no matter who comes, then counter when you manage to get a chance, so you were barely threatening let alone causing opponent mistakes leading to penalties.
Do you think its stupid to question one ref giving 8 penalties in 8 consecutive appearances at Old Trafford?

Hope u know Webb is in charge of selecting refs for EPL fixtures, he was appointed for the role last year.

Howard Webb has been promoted to a new role as performance director for England's professional referees and will be the man who selects officials for Premier League matches.

Webb, 43, who retired as a referee last year after a career which included taking charge of the 2010 World Cup final, has been appointed performance director for the Select Group of referees - the 17 full-time professional officials.

He takes over from 69-year-old Keren Barratt, who had been due to retire but is moving into a different role.

I don't know if I would give Conte that much credit for Costa's upturn in form though.

To me I think that Costa has improved mainly because he has largely reduced that irritating thing he used to do last season where he would run away from the box to pretend he was a left winger. A good striker in the box scores goals, that's no surprise.

It was the match that finally ended Arsenal’s 49-game unbeaten league run, but yet again it was a contentious penalty that sealed it.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, having been goaded by Arsenal players after missing a last minute penalty in this fixture last season, scored a dubious 73rd-minute spot kick to put United on their way to victory.
Rooney twisted his way into the penalty area on the right and fell to the ground in the vicinity of Sol Campbell. Arsenal disputed there had been any contact and arguably Rooney was already falling by that point.
Nonetheless, it was the 8th penalty awarded to United by Mike Riley at Old Trafford in as many appearances there. The infamous pizza throwing incident happened soon after the final whistle.

This was never a close match, but this was a decision so shocking even Sir Alex Ferguson agreed it was never a penalty.

United were already 1-0 up when Mauricio Taricco pulled back Paul Scholes.
Despite the infringement clearly happening outside the box, Mike Riley gave a penalty and sent off the Argentina full back. Ruud Van Nistelrooy pumped in the spot kick for his 30th goal of the season.

Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle protested afterwards: 'It was diabolical and the key decision of the game. It was one and a half yards outside the box and he wasn't the last man.'
Fergie agreed, saying: 'The penalty decision was wrong.' But he added: 'I don't think it was a turning point. We were already one up and when we're in front we're hard to catch. He had to go. He was the last man.'

Manyoo EPL Penalty Stats

1. Wayne Rooney - 19 Pens between 2004 and 2016
2. Ruud Van Nistelrooy - 18 Pens between 2001 and 2016
3. Mark Riley - 12 Penalties in just 23 games between 1997 and 2004
4 .Howard Webb - 10 Penalties in Just 40 appearnces for united between 2001 and 2014.

Between 1997 and 2004 Riley had refereed 23 United games in all competitions. In that time, their record was: W13 D3 L7. he gave 12 penalties for United in that time, but only three against them. And he sent off five of United's opponents

In the 40 Manchester United matches Webb has taken charge of in all competitions, he has awarded them ten spot kicks (or one in every four games) and two to the Red Devils’ opponents (one per twenty matches played, as I’m sure you could figure out).

This means that 16.7% of the penalties that Webb has awarded in his career have gone to United, though they have only appeared in 10.4% of his matches, whilst their opponents account for just 3.33% of his penalties from the same proportion of games.
