Eastbay:There's no back and forth...the train goes in only one direction. Of course a big money transfer can go on to flop, just like an over hyped bald headed fraud of a manager can also turn out to flop worse than caitlyn jenner's erecttion. The question here was regarding expectation. Should we expect them to flop while managing that array of talent? Ferguson more or less matched up to his expectation. Pep has not. The side debate, yourself and i got into was only because of your post implying that sir rednose was some sort of miracle worker. He wasn't. He managed the one of the biggest teams in the modern era...and he delivered, unlike a bald headed, sweater wearing, team mate slapping, thousand yard staring, catalan fraud. |
Eastbay:Now you're shifting the argument. You were previously speaking about the league up until 1999 and mentioned players like Stam, Yorke and Blomquist.. hence I also focused on that Era. If we move to the Modern Era, I think that there's still a very good argument that Ferguson had the best squad or at the worst on par with his opposition And anytime there was a better or equal team, Ferguson forfeited the title. Against Jose twice. Against Mancini. Against Ancelotti. I don't think Arsenal had a ever had a better squad than Manyoo as Henry and Viera papered over a lot of cracks in that team IMO. The only time Fergusons squad was weak to me was in his final season. Prior to that Ferguson managed a team that was either the best or one of the best in the league. So what else should we expect from him? |
Eastbay:It's an indication of the club's assessment of the player's ability and worth. The average transfer that season in the EPL cost 3 million pounds(see link below) Are you saying we shouldn't expect a striker that cost 14 million pounds to tear up the league? Ok what should we have expected? http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/transfers/wettbewerb/GB1/plus/?saison_id=1998&s_w=&leihe=0&leihe=1&intern=0&intern=1 |
Eastbay:I think your problem is your inability to understand relativity. Ferguson had the best squads in England for much of his career in the EPL. The minimum expectation back then was that Ferguson would win the league. This is a guy that broke the British transfer record at least twice, and Club transfer record several times. This is a guy that managed the most dominant side in EPL history. What else could be the minimum expectation from him. The only argument you could have is the 'shoe get size' argument, by stating that Pep's Barca team was man for man better than Ferguson's Manyoo team, and you would have a point. But we're not comparing Pep to Fergsuon man to man. We're tangentially comparing them in relation to their domestic and european opposition, and the fact remains that both men managed teams that were by far superior to their opposition especially domestically. I can still remember when the EPL was a competition for second place, because it was a foregone conclusion that Manyoo would finish first. |
Eastbay:The simple fact remains that Dwight Yorke was one of the best in the league at the time. The rest of your post is either irrelevant or garbarge. Dwight Yorke was the club record transfer in 1999, for a club that had won the most EPL titles, and finished as the highest goal scorer that year. What should we expect from his manager? |
Kolade354:So basically you just want to ignore facts and abuse simply because you have access to the internet.\ Ride on. |
Eastbay:They were the best in the league at the time. Stam was actually the UEFA best defender of the year for back to back seasons between 1998 and 2000, and Dwight Yorke finished the season as the highest goal scorer in the league. So the exact same argument against Pep could be levied against Ferguson. With the amount of talent available to him, walking the league and triumphing in Europe was the minimum expectation. Good job he delivered. |
Kolade354:Why are you insulting the guy for stating clear facts though? Spurs have dropped points at home to Leicester, Westbrom, Newcastle in the league this season. They've also lost to Palace and Dortmund at home in the cups. Their two most influential midfielders this season in Dembele and Alli are now out for the season, and obviously they are vulnerable having just lost the league. Southampton are in redhot form now and have scored a whopping 8 goals in their last two games. Newcastle are desperately fighting relegation now with only 2 points between them and Norwich in 19th place. Why is it so inconceivable that Spurs lose both games? Arsenal are also in form right now, and if City progress tonight, then it's very likely that Pellegrini would be focusing exclusively on cementing his legacy in the UCL final. We saw Southampton demolish a City squad resting their key players only sunday, and if City get to the final, what's to say that Arsenal cannot profit? Spy360 has a (deserved?) reputation for occasionally chatting shyte on this forum, but this is a situation where he was speaking very logically. I don't think it's spy360 who's acting the fool on this occasion sir. |
Eastbay:EPL started in 1992. Ferguson broke the British/Club transfer record in 1993, 1995, 1998(twice), 2001(twice), 2002, and 2008. Eastbay:ferguson broke the club transfer record twice in one season to buy these two. I agree with your argument re Pep fraudiola, but it is also a fraud to try and paint Ferguson as a winner with 'home grown talent'. Ferguson more or less bought his way to the EPL titles. |
