Christianity is spiritual. Either u have (or at least are on the side of) that Spirit or u r not. All these u see giving testimonies about deliverance or miracles performed in their lives by the Spirit don’t know all these u talk about. They don’t need to. Remember the earliest disciples had no books like bible yet they were the most productive -the Spirit was in them
You're right. The Holy Spirit is the comforter and revealer of eternal truths. Even our Lord Jesus received the Holy Spirit after being baptized as a confirmation of His Sonship. The Holy Spirit is ever willing to possess but the flesh is weak. The flesh here is the INTELLECT, which subjects everything to reason. The Holy Spirit activates INTUITION, which empowers man to understand without reasoning!

The first requirement to meet before receiving the Holy Spirit is HUMILITY. That's exactly what Jesus was referring to when He insisted on "being born again" before having access. That is, you must be like children, who are pure in heart and follow intuition.

Those details in my previous response were necessary for those who prefer to follow their intellect to illumination. For people like that, among which are those who believe Jesus doesn't exist, they are better guided intellectually until they attain understanding. I was there. I read heaps of books in search of the TRUTH about Jesus and became frustrated at some point. I was only able to attain understanding with the Help of the Holy Spirit.

It's just sad that Christianity has been turned to a SHOW today just like the days of the Scribes and Pharisees. That is why the Holy Spirit can't find His place among so-called Christians today.

Constantine is a historical figure, a real person.

Jesus is a figment of the imagination of the Roman Catholic Church.

Have you seen a picture of Jesus?

Who painted that picture?

Everytime you bow down to a picture or image of Jesus, you infact worshiping the famous renaissance architect Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni.

Its all a massive con.

Emperor Constantine was a ruthless dictator

One that manufactured christianity so as to subdue the Roman peasants and kept them paying taxes.

Furthermore, the life of Jesus according to the bible is a carbon copy of the military campaign of Emperor Titus Flavius Vespasianus.

Emperor Titus Flavius Vespasianus was a real person.
Well, I'm not interested in convincing anyone about his existence. My earlier submission was for those who earnestly seek. Jesus spoke in parables. The essence of parables is to hide the core message so that the impatient will walk away or jump into conclusions, while the humble and genuine seekers will ask further questions, get answers and receive understanding.

Christ, as portrayed by the Romans in the Bible doesn't exist. That was implied in my previous post. The story of his virgin birth, death, ressurrection etc. as portrayed in the Bible all have their rooting in many Greco-Roman mythologies and indigenous religion, one of which is the cult of Mithras.

There are so many secrets that I can't continue to reveal here about how desperately those who hate the truth have tried to subdue the true message of Jesus. For example, if you don't read the teachings of Jesus within the context of the dilemma of the Jews under Roman occupation, you may never understand His revolutionary message. Examine the book titled "The Secret message of Jesus" by Brian D. McLaren.

That's why any true disciple of Jesus must look beyond the Bible to understand His core teachings. There are other books that were excluded from the Bible as "heresy" while some were destroyed or buried (like the red sea scrolls) because they expose the fraud currently being perpetrated in the name of Christianity.

The confusion created by those who desperately seek to subvert and revise the core teachings of Jesus for selfish reasons, is responsible for the reasonable doubt about his actual existence today. No reasonable person will believe a virgin birth without asking questions. And when you ask a question about some of the lies without getting convincing answers, you begin to justifiably doubt everything to the very existence of the source itself.

My advise to all "Christians" reading this is to seek earnestly, the secret message of Jesus. When you find the truth, you will stop worshipping "Christ" and start following Jesus. When you assimilate His core teachings, you will realise why every earthly authority will try to subdue the message. Martin Luther King for example looked beyond the Bible and discovered the core teachings of Jesus. Just like the true disciples before King, he spread the revolutionary message and also suffered same fate as Jesus. The core teachings are revolutionary and the few who are hell-bent on keeping the masses in perpetual darkness will continue to attempt to subdue it. The so-called second coming of Jesus is actually the moment when the TRUTH about his message will finally be made bare to the world. That is when the Kingdom of Heaven will be established on earth and when the World will know peace.
EducationRe: Who is The Greatest Philosopher Of All Time? by Niyi74(m): 11:34am On Jun 26, 2019
For those seriously and honestly in doubt about the actual existence of our Lord Jesus, examine objectively the book titled "The Quest of the Historical Jesus" by Albert Schweitzer. Read, digest and reflect on it honestly. Jesus exists and walked the earth. Surely, he learnt from the existing philosophies and spiritual truths of his time. He learnt His father's craft, studied hard and crossfertilised ideas with the wise ones in the temple. When His hour came, He manifested the glory of the Father that sent him through revelation of eternal truths that shook the world to its foundations, angered the principalities and powers of his time and even his own people who conspired with the Romans to assassinate Him.

What is touted as Christianity today is a fraud. The fraud started with the cover-up of Christ's murder by the Romans (faced with guilt when the murder of Christ couldn't kill his revolutionary message) that His death was pre-ordained and they were just a tool. No. Jesus did not die FOR our sins. He died BECAUSE of our sins. He was killed because the world hate the truth. He was the light that darkness comprehended not. His light exposed the unclothedness of the Romans and Hypocrisy of the Religious leaders of His time. He was killed to silence His message. His death failed to achieve that as His disciples continued to grow rapidly even in the face of extreme persecution.

Emperor Constantine's edict of religious freedom paved way for the Roman Empire to adopt Christianity as State Religion. But just like Principalities never relinquish power, the official Christianity adopted by the Roman State was a concoctment in perpetuation of their grip on power. The eternal truths of our Lord Jesus were turned on their head in order to align with the agenda of the power that be. The original teachings of Jesus were sidelined because they are too dangerous and revolutionary! Christianity therefore as an organised religion by the earliest Church established by the Romans was a fraud perpetrated to 'unite' agrieved true followers of Christ with the power that be when it became obvious Christ's original relevolutionary message was poised to establish the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth! ( Meaning all Kingdoms and Empires would have to pave way).

The distortions of the core teachings of Jesus and atrocities committed by the Romans in the name of "Christianity" layed the foundation for the loss of Jesus's original message. The true message and core teachings are however revealable ONLY TO THOSE WHO TRULY SEEK. To seek properly, you must be pure in heart, honest and humble and you must look beyond the Bible, touted as the "final" word of God. God has never stopped speaking and will continue to speak.

The Master himself said that "...Seek and ye shall find! ... Ye shall find the truth, and the truth shall set you FREE!"
EducationRe: Who is The Greatest Philosopher Of All Time? by Niyi74(m):
It's difficult to pick the overall greatest philosopher of all time. Picking an overall will underestimate the work of others. One of the weaknesses of man is his abhorence of contradictions and uncertainty while having a strong affinity for simplification and security. This weakness must have prompted the desire to pass all great philosophers through a 'sieve of greatness' inorder to determine the "greatest" so that the perceived "greatest" can be isolated for worship and devotion, while ignoring the complementary works of others. Such 'sieve of greatness', if at all can be made, will perpetually remain SUBJECTIVE and can only produce 'a desired greatest' and not the greatest in the real sense of it. That said.

From my personal subjective perspective, the following are the 'greatest' philosophers of all times. I consider them equal with no single message superior to the other but rather complementary:

1. Jesus: Even majority of the so called "Christians" don't understand the core teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ. They prefer to worship him instead of living by his words. Jesus detested worship when he was alive. He encouraged obedience and practice of his teachings instead. What is Christ's core teaching? Love! Love is the most misunderstood word in the world. When you seek and truly understand the meaning of the word Love, you will understand why Jesus's core teaching is perhaps the greatest philosopy of all times and the hope of the world!

2. Orunmila:
When you study Ifa critically, you will understand that Orunmila is perhaps the wisest man to ever walk this earth. Compared to Jesus's IDEAL message on how to live your life ABUNDANTLY on earth (when kingdom of heaven is established on earth through love) while guaranteeing the best afterlife, Orunmila offers PRACTICAL and REALISTIC way of living your life ABUNDANTLY on earth while also guaranteeing the best afterlife. In other words, Jesus's philosophy focusses on COMMUNITY efforts (unconditional love) towards prospertity on earth while Orunmila's philosophy offers first INDIVIDUAL effort towards the individual's personal attainments and then how the individual integrates with others towards the realisation of ultimate desire of the the COMMUNITY.

3. Socrates: The Oracle of Delphi was always right in acient Greece. It confirmed Socrates as the wisest man in Greece. When Socrates was informed that Oracle of Delphi picked him as the wisest man in Greece, he laughed in disbelief. He responded by saying "Why will the Oracle pick me? I know nothing so I cannot be the wisest man in Greece" Then other philosphers became convinced that the Oracle is right for [i]"He who knows not and knows that he knows not is wise!". Socrates is the father of science that makes life easy today. Scientific thought process is originally referred to as "Socratic thinking". Socratic thinking dictates that we must never claim absolute knowledge. We must continue to doubt everything in order to remain open for higher knowledge. That is why scientist will tell you Aspirin is safe today and warn you not to take same drug tomorrow when higher knowledge is attained. That is why, in my subjective opinion, Socrates is the greatest of all philosophers.
EducationRe: Is Studying Engineering In Nigeria A Scam? by Niyi74(m): 4:37pm On Apr 14, 2019
Amhappy:
This was an academia discussion during the last NCDMB nogof. The head of ExxonMobil trading school said that they don't put fresh Engineering graduate from Nigeria in their system without first sending them to at least 20months training school but graduates from abroad can be absorbed straight. The curriculum is outdated and no relevant internship as IT aim is not achieved. IT students are turned to errand boys. When COREN was asked what they will do about it,he was just speaking grammar.
Thank you for sharing this.

Fresh Engineering graduates from Nigerian Universities going from classroom straight to factory may only be useful for technical reporting. Smart ones can be trained as operators or maintenance technician on short term. For long term engineering practice however, they have to be shipped abroad to unlearn, relearn and re-certify to meet up with global best practices.

COREN is the primal enemy of Engineering in Nigeria. They are more interested in titles and professional dues than the profession itself. Before you can be called a Doctor or Lawyer, you must pass through medical school or law school respectively, where you will learn your craft and rudiments of professional practice in your field. Mediocrity isn't tolerated. But what's the case in Engineering in Nigeria? You'll be rolled out straight from University to work place, inadequately prepared. There was a time some great thinkers came up with the idea of SITSIE (Supervised Industrial Training Scheme in Engineering). SISTIE if implemented will make it mandatory for all Engineering graduates (after bagging HND/B.Sc/B.Eng/B.Tech) to undergo mandatory 2years tutelage (like law school) in the industry under registered professional engineers. They'll only be able to go for NYSC after completing SITSIE and becoming junior professional Engineers (Registered with practice license). The idea was never implemented and we are now wondering why we are here. COREN is not sincere. They know what the issues are but they are unwilling and too weak to push for legislations that will address the issues. Most of those who lead COREN today are not passionate Engineers. They don't love the profession for what it is. They only love it for what they can benefit from it.
EducationRe: Is Studying Engineering In Nigeria A Scam? by Niyi74(m): 1:49pm On Apr 14, 2019
It's a scam. They promise to make you an Engineer: a professional well-trained to apply scientific principles, in innovative ways, to solve problems and promote sustainable development. They collect your money and waste your time (at least 5years) and make you a mediocre theorist (the theory they teach is outdated) and a clueless "Engineer" in title only. Like a roaring lion on paper. A paper tiger.

Is it the fault of the Lecturers? Never! Engineering is expensive. Not fucking cheap like studying classics or philosophy. I'm a practicing Engineer and I've had the privilege to work with Americans, Europeans and Asians. The shocking truth is Engineering Training in the real sense of it exists only in few countries: United States, Germany, France, Japan and Russia. When you study engineering outside these countries, you will not get the real thing. Now, observe that some great European and Asian countries didn't even make my shortlist. So why are you expecting anything less than a scam in Nigeria?

The truth is, our Universities have no business running an Engineering faculty and pretending to be carrying out research. Bogus research. Israel just crashed a 36billion naira spacecraft. And their Prime Minister promised to try again in the next 3years. That's Engineering research. Can we afford that? You never chop, you dey ask for Red Label.

Engineering is fucking expensive. So all you'll get from a Nigerian (or any African) University is a mediocre degree at best. That's why you have to re-certify to practice outside Africa.

If you are studying Engineering presently or planning to, just endure the rubbish you are being taught and try to graduate with 2:1. While studying the rubbish, hit the streets and get your hands dirty with practicals. Buy scrap machines, hack and reverse-engineer, set up a laboratory at home, try to design stuff, build systems, get your fingers burnt, burn down buildings in your experiments, refuse defeat, fail and try again and again and again until you succeed. That's how to become an ENGINEER!
RomanceRe: That Women Always Attach Emotions To Sex Is Nonsense. Here Is Why by Niyi74(op): 7:19am On Mar 30, 2019
Lordave:
Your point is justified!

Only a bush dwelling moronic illiterate will think that women can't have sex if they don't have a feeling for you.
It's proven that women enjoy rape too(I am not saying they love to be raped) inasmuch as the rapist is a good fucker. The virginal walls has no brain, just nerves. So far the dick dey brush am well, the lady might even moan in pleasure while she's forced against her wish.
There is this story (don't know if true) about a woman who never reached orgasm in sex with her husband. Then came robbers to their house. After obtaining some valuables, the leader of the gang decided to have a taste of the most valuable asset in the house. During the act with the wife, she reached orgasm multiple times to the chagrin of her husband. Then the criminals left and the husband wouldn't listen to all pleas not to divorce her. Is such a divorce justifiable on the ground of adultery? Many believe it's justifiable because the wife evidently enjoyed the illicit sex. I however disagree. She didn't commit adultery.

The pleasure women derive from forceful sexual act that they do not consent to is INVOLUNTARY. Just like nature forces us to yawn even if we don't want to open our mouth. Rape is a crime despite this involuntary pleasure because rape denies the victim his/her fundamental right of choice.

Everyone has a fundamental right to choose who they Bleep. Besides, the involuntary pleasure is nothing compared to the pleasure derivable by women from properly executed consensual sexual act. Smart men know this and that is why smart men don't rape. They rather tease her persistently till she gives her consent and open the pathway to mutual pleasure without acrimony.
RomanceThat Women Always Attach Emotions To Sex Is Nonsense. Here Is Why by Niyi74(op):
I usually laugh at the ignorance of men who believe women can’t have sex for the sole purpose of pleasure, without having emotional attachment to the man they bleeped. What nonsense.

I wouldn’t have shared my view about this old lie if not for the recent thread (https://www.nairaland.com/5102630/why-cheating-wife-dangerous) demonizing cheating women while trying to exonerate male cheats. A cheat is a cheat, male and female alike. That said.

So why do I believe women also engage in purely pleasurable sex? Let’s go back to the fundamentals.

From primordial times, the primary purpose of sex has been argued to be procreation. Sex would have been left alone for its supposed primary purpose (procreation) if not for one big problem. Sex is sweet. That’s the big problem. Some psychologists believe the sweetness is originally designed to encourage procreation and therefore preservation of mankind. That makes sense. However, the problem with sweet or pleasurable things is that they are ADDICTIVE.

So I can imagine how the earliest humans, who first discovered the pleasure of sex, must have been fucking around (male and female) without boundary or restraint – everyone fucking anyone – father/daughter, mother/son, brother/sister, cousin/cousin, neighbor/neighbor etc. just like animals do till now. The earliest humans must have bleeped continuously and enjoyed it so much without self-restraint until some complications began to arise. Of all possible complications from such a chaotic f*ckaton painted above, the most complicated must have been who was responsible for a pregnancy. Of course it takes two to tango (fundamentally) and a pregnant woman is the only party that can’t deny her role in a ‘tournament’ that leads to the pregnancy. If multiple men were involved in the tournament, they can all claim responsibility or deny their role all together. An all-round denial only leaves the woman to carry her cross alone while an all-round claim to such a pregnancy can be very dangerous. Very dangerous to the extent of resulting in intra and inter communal wars with consequent destruction of lives and property. Lessons learnt from such destructions therefore gave birth to some ideas of sexual restraint. Marriage was a successful idea to restrain sex between consenting couple, thereby reducing confusion of paternity (before present day advancements).

Marriage however didn’t solve the problem of addiction to the pleasure of sex. It only takes a first taste for eternal craving to be established with perpetual struggle for restraint. Therefore men still bleeped around even in marriage. Same with women, but women later began to exercise some self-restraint when the unmatched pleasure of sex to the discomfort of pregnancy and child delivery became apparent. After all, they are the ones who get grounded after the man sows his seed and take a walk to the next fertile soil. Women therefore, unlike men, were forced to tame their addiction to the pleasure of sex as a result of the discomfort of the procreation consequence that sex imposed on their gender.

Then came a momentary relief for them with the development of traditional contraceptives and abortion techniques. Hurray! Women can now Bleep freely. That relief was however short-lived as it dawned on them that they had to pick between sexual pleasure and good health or even their life in extreme cases. They had no choice but to fall-back to self-restraint for self-preservation. Meanwhile men continued to Bleep freely from the earliest times! Fucking to men is no-biggy – just finish off and take a walk to the next one.

This self-restraint of the earliest women impacted on their genes (human gene is selfish and strives to preserve itself by evolving and getting stronger) and led to the evolvement of women with stronger ability to exercise sexual restraint. No doubt religion and socio-cultural factors also played their minor roles.

Fast forward to the 21st century, abortion is now relatively safe, effective female contraceptives easily accessible while religious and socio-cultural walls are falling apart. The modern woman no longer needs sexual-restraint for self-preservation. She no longer needs to pick between her life or good health and pleasurable sex. She can now have them both without the procreation consequence. The Dragon is now on the loose.

Now when it comes to pleasure of sex, women feel the greatest pleasure in a good consented sexual act. It was designed so naturally to compensate for the pain of the procreation consequence that follows such great pleasure. Men practically enjoy sex only at the moment of ejaculation. Women on the other hand enjoy every bit of sex right from sex-talk to orgasm. Wonder why dildos sell faster than male masturbators? How women enjoy good sex is beyond explanation. Some men who know this secret use the power of good sex selfishly to trap women in abusive relationships.

So now ask yourself: who has the tendency to Bleep purely for pleasure? The one who enjoys the act for as long as it lasts or the one that only experience few seconds of enjoyment? Modern women who restrain the “bitch” in them do so as a matter of personal choice or in conformity to religious and socio-cultural norms. Freed from being judged or personally ignoring what others think, a woman can Bleep an entire male generation and still want more. She’s endowed with the stamina to endure the rigour of sex unlike the average man that will pass out after some few rounds (as few as 7 continuous rounds is enough to give most men heart-attack, yet most women survive gang-rape). This is why prostitution is the oldest female profession. Women control the domain of sex. Men are just trespassers at best.

It therefore amounts to ignorance to assume women don’t and can’t have sex for pure pleasure. They Bleep for exactly the same reason as men; pleasure. As research on female reproductive health continue to advance and culture continues to evolve (dogmas and taboos are falling apart daily), we may end up having a world where women will be raping men helplessly when female sexual appetite reaches its advance stage.
Jobs/VacanciesAre You Really Unemployed In The Real Sense Of It? by Niyi74(op):
In labour economics, unemployment is a term used to refer to a situation whereby skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled individuals that are without jobs (paid employment) and have been actively looking for a job within the past two weeks (duration varies from country to country) are unable to secure one. It is important to point out here that those who are covered by this situation are those who are willing to sell their labour for a regular payment hourly, weekly, monthly or other special arrangement. Entrepreneurs do not fall into this category and can therefore not be referred to as unemployed even when their businesses fail and they are left with nothing to do or without income. They will only be referred to as “unemployed” when they start looking for a job instead of starting all over. That is why entrepreneurs are said to be “self-employed” and not just “employed”.

Now that we have some understanding of what unemployment is, let us talk about the categories of unemployment. There are at least four categories:

1. Ivoluntary Unemployment:

When you are jobless and actively searching for a job and you can’t find ANY JOB whatsoever. Most of the people that are uneducated, unskilled (hard or soft) and physically unfit are usually the victim of this category of unemployment.

2. Voluntary unemployment:

When you are jobless and actively looking for a job but only willing to settle for the kind of job that meets your personal preferences. Your preferences could bother on safety, remuneration, etc.

3. Structural unemployment:

Location is a critical factor for business and employment opportunities. Structural unemployment occurs when you are settled at a particular location with little or no job opportunities while most of the job opportunities are elsewhere and far away. Most immigrants in developed countries migrated to tackle structural unemployment.

4. Frictional unemployment:

Employers prefer to place round pegs in round holes. Frictional unemployment is the situation where jobs are available but only very few to nobody is qualified to pick up those jobs. This happens everywhere even in Nigeria. That is why some multinational companies bring in expatriates or even repeat vacancy advert helplessly with no one applying.

From the categorization above, we can infer that those suffering from involuntary employment may actually be the truly unemployed in the real sense of it, if their circumstances are as a result of their lack of education and useful skill(s).

Now let’s look at the second category. Most unemployed graduates in Nigeria fall into this category- voluntary unemployment. Most graduates have personal preferences or minimum expectation when it comes to picking up a job. These preferences or expectations are usually influenced by peer pressure, social, religious and cultural factors. It is common to hear words like: “I can’t be found doing that kind of dirty job”… “When will I buy my own car with that kind of meager salary?”… “My mates are getting married and I need to follow suit urgently. That salary can’t sustain me and my prospective family”… “I don’t want to work where there is no job security”… and so on.

What exactly encourages excuses like this apart from the factors mentioned earlier? It is what labour economists refer to as the “reserve wage” or better put “reserve salary”.
The reserve salary is the salary you “earn” when you are jobless. Let’s admit it, no one really want to work. Laboring is not easy. That is why almost every winner of a jackpot quit their jobs. What forces man to work are his needs as arranged in a hierarchy by Ahraham Maslow. In Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, physiological and safety needs are the fundamental or basic needs of man; security, food, clothe and shelter. These basic needs are not free. We buy foods, clothes, pay rents and tax to government that provide security. Now the interesting twist is that most voluntarily unemployed graduates enjoy these basic needs for “free”. Whereas, they are actually not free because someone is paying for them. The amount that person is paying for those needs is being paid to such graduates indirectly as a “reserve wage” or “reserve salary”. Put differently, whatever money you “earn” (directly or indirectly) regularly, to fulfill your basic needs (mostly from family, friends, acquaintances etc.) by not actually working for the giver is your “reserve salary”. Similarly, your reserve salary could be from your previous savings. That’s why you begin to get on your toes when such savings are depleting and no preferred job is forthcoming.

Most unemployed graduates will not accept a job offer if the salary is below their reserve salary, that is if the remuneration of the job is barely enough to meet their basic needs. That is why a N30,000 salary may mean the whole world to an involuntarily unemployed person and mean nothing to a voluntarily unemployed graduate. This also explains why most people born into a rich family rarely work because they find it hard to secure a job paying above their reserve salary (usually very high because of their luxurious lifestyle). Therefore most voluntarily unemployed graduates may be forced to drop their ego and pick up a job within two weeks if their reserve salaries seize flowing (when thrown out by parents or family members for example with no fall back).

The last two categories of unemployment often lead to underemployment. Underemployment happens when an employee’s earning potential or skills are not optimized or fully utilized. Most civil servants in Nigeria for example are underemployed. Same is also true for more than half of employees in the private sector. Graduates who read this and decide to dump voluntary unemployment and pick up the next available job are most likely to be underemployed. Underemployment is therefore a more serious issue in Nigeria compared to involuntary and voluntary unemployment and it is the major reason behind economic migration.

Government therefore needs to create enabling environment for existing businesses to thrive and attraction of foreign investments. Revamping infrastructure will tackle structural unemployment as a high speed train reducing traveling from Lagos to Ibadan to 30minutes can eliminate structural unemployment between the two cities. Also, reviewing curriculum of tertiary institutions will go a long way in tackling frictional unemployment.
PoliticsRe: The Bathtub Test And 2019: Why We Need To Focus On The Legislators by Niyi74(op): 5:03pm On Feb 26, 2019
Our eyes are clear now that is obvious the incumbent will continue for another 4years. After some noise here and there, we'll hibernate and wait till 2023 to start the whole madness all over again.

Believe it or not, with the way we conduct elections in Nigeria, a sitting President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces will only lose a reelection if he so wishes. You had a benevolent President in 2015 who feels his ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian and you were carried away by the "victory" of your messiah after the supposed election. You confidently believed votes now count. Now you've been disillusioned.

Until we forget about the Presidential elections and focus on the legislators, nothing will change. Imagine if we had a patriotic and proactive legislators, they would have amended the electoral act early and have enough time to overrule the incumbent who refused to sign it to law. That way, today's fraud wouldn't have been so brazen. The most annoying idiots are the 71 other dickheads aspiring to be President. They would have done the nation a good service aspiring to be legislators.

The fundamental purpose of government is to guarantee ORDER. Order is achieved through enactment and enforcement of good laws. Your "constitution" which is the most fundamental law is a fraudulent document. Your freedom depends on its suitable amendment or outright replacement.

All your boss need do is to request for another ATM and get a proxy to collect on his behalf and Courier same to him.
Yeah he sure can do that but it's a long process as he needs access to quick cash on daily basis. That policy is so crude. What if he were just a tourist with no local contacts here in Nigeria? He couldn't understand why such a policy exists considering his experiences in Europe and some African countries. He believed Nigeria should be smarter. He was disappointed yesterday.

BusinessInt'l Atm Card Stuck In Gtbank Atm, Owner Stranded. by Niyi74(op): 9:34am On Nov 17, 2018
We copy technology in Nigeria but fail to copy correctly. My boss is a Civil Engineering consultant and is currently overseeing a federal government project in Nigeria. He uses a Unionpay ATM card issued to him by his bank in China (where he is based) for cash withdrawal and POS payments whenever he is overseas.

Unfortunately yesterday, the card got stuck in a GTBank ATM while trying to withdraw money. All efforts to retrieve the card from the GTBank branch failed as the manager kept insisting on the CBN policy mandating banks to withhold and destroy such ATM cards. Imagine. In saner climes, all that is needed is proof of ownership and attestation of card retrieval by the owner. In fact, same ATM card got stuck in a machine while he was at Ethiopia last year.

The bank in Ethiopia has a clear procedure for card retrieval. First he was asked to provide proof of ownership of the card in form of bank records which he did. He was later followed by a security man to the bank's ATM to demonstrate access through his PIN which he did smoothly. Then they handed him a form to fill, attesting he collected the card with photocopy of his international passport attached. He did all that within few minutes and got back his card. We were at the GTBank branch for over 3hours yesterday trying to find a way to retrieve the card to no avail. Even after calling GTconnect, chatting with customer care and prevailing on the branch manager to understand his circumstances they kept reciting the simplistic CBN policy of destroying such cards.

I was ashamed as a Nigerian yesterday. We copy western technology but fail to put necessary infrastructure and right policies in place to make such technology robust. Let’s ponder on these questions as Nigerians:

1. Of what use is a policy if it fails to protect the interest of consumers, local and international?

2. Why should a user of an ATM suffer loss as a result of a malfunctioning machine (other cards were seized by same machine yesterday)?

3. Shouldn’t users of international ATM cards be protected from such policies considering the high charges on cash withdrawal (GTBank ATMs charges N100 per N1000 withdrawn with the card)?

4. Is this how we intend to attract foreign investors and professionals?

This obnoxious policy of destroying ATM cards must stop. It is not only crude, but also against international best practices.

Well, rating him objectively on his Five Cardinal Programme will give him a good score in infrastructural development, average score in security and poor scores in others. However governance is beyond those five things. In an economically viable State, agriculture, infrastructure etc. will be sorted seamlessly through public-private patnership. Modern model of good governance focuses on strenghtening institutions and building of infrastructures that attract investments and reduce the cost of doing business. These has been the focus of the governor. Under him, the IGR of Ogun State has continued to increase with the potential of surpassing that of oil producing states and even Lagos in the nearest future as Ogun State is now the most industrialised State in Nigeria.

For development to be sustainable, it has to be private sector driven.

In saner climes, Malami would have been compelled to tender his resignation letter. The law is sacronsanct. Release him as ordered by the court or appeal. Flagrant disregard of rule of law is more dangerous than a suspected murderer (he has not been convicted). Disobeying court orders is tantamount to anarchy with disastrous consequences.

That census is the biggest scam in Nigeria and it is on the basis of that scam that the British authorities alllocated the North 174 seats of the 312 that make up the Federal Parliament (as at then). That is the root of Nothern Hegemony in Nigeria and the foundation of political corruption.
PoliticsThe Bathtub Test And 2019: Why We Need To Focus On The Legislators by Niyi74(op): 4:41pm On Jul 05, 2018
The Bathtub Test

During a visit to the mental asylum, I asked the director “How do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized?”

“Well,” said the director, “we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub…”

“Oh, I understand,” I said. “A normal person would use the bucket because it’s bigger than the spoon or the teacup”

“No.” said the director, “A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?”

Most of us will innocently fail the Bathtub test because we have been programmed to believe that the apparent solutions to problems are the only solutions. We’ll gladly settle for the teaspoon, teacup and bucket on the surface instead of digging deeper for the plug hiding somewhere beneath the swamp we need to drain.

Since the aborted third republic in 1993, Elections have been dominated by Presidential candidates. The fourth republic, which began in 1999, will be 20years old in 2019 and Nigerians are still obsessed with the office of the President. Just like the inquirer above, we get carried away all the time by the options presented to us as probable solutions. We have been brainwashed to believe that the ‘right’ President will be the ‘messiah’ that will lead us to the promise land. We need to wake up in 2019 or we’ll all get a bed by the window.

We seem to be unaware that there are three arms of government in a democracy and we always single out the Executive for onslaught. Our obsession with the president particularly, stems from the experiences under prolonged military misrule which entrenched the belief that the Executive arm of government is the most powerful. The military dictators, while masquerading as Executives, assumed both legislative and judicial powers. This aberration sunk deeply the messianic perception of the Head of State into the psyche of most Nigerians and remains one of the greatest tragedies of military misrule, apart from the string they attached to power when they left reluctantly in 1999. The string, (the 1999 constitution) which places so much power in the hands of the president, further entrenched the messianic belief. Operating the fourth republic on this constitution worsened the obsession of Nigerians with the president. This obsession fuels the futile search for a messianic president. We thought we found one in 2015 but the corrupting effect of the excessive presidential powers guaranteed by the 1999 constitution gradually swallowed the ‘messiah’. The most important lesson from this experience is the fact that no ‘messiah’ can save us. We must look deeply at the other options within the framework of what we have at hand presently (the 1999 constitution) and not just the teaspoons, teacups and buckets (presidential candidates) we get offered as solutions every election year.

His Royal Highness, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the Emir of Kano and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria once made a staggering revelation on the cost of governance in Nigeria; the fact that the legislators consume 25% of the annual budget! He was summoned by the national assembly to substantiate his claim. He appeared before the legislators and humbled them with facts. Similarly, former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo usually reiterate, when he has the opportunity, that the National Assembly is a den of thieves and rogues (though his allegations are often dismissed by counter-allegations that they are mere reactions to the 3rd term agenda swindle of the former president by the legislators). Also, former Minister of finance, Okonjo Iweala, revealed in her book how former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government had to literarily bribe the legislators to perform their duty of passing the budget. And lastly, the foundation to PMB’s troubles was laid with the emergence of Saraki and Dogara as the leaders of the National Assembly. Why are these facts important? The legislators are the proverbial elephant in the room that we always ignore in our futile search for messianic presidents. They eat 25% of the budget annually, hold firmly and squeeze the balls of the ‘messiah’ when necessary just to have their selfish ways. They are the plug hiding somewhere inside the Bathtub. If we must get it right in 2019, our attention must shift from the teaspoons, teacups and buckets to the plug.

Democratic system of government thrives on strong institutions. The legislature, congress or parliament is the most powerful institution in a democracy. The legislators, congressmen or members of parliament make the laws and possess the power of oversight on other arms of government. If governance is based on the rule of law and run by institutions established by law, why are we not keenly interested in those who make those laws?

Restructuring, a carrot the opposition is currently dangling for 2019, is a constitutional matter. Who will amend the constitution? If we agree that the 1999 constitution is not the people’s constitution and there is a need for its replacement, who will provide a framework for its replacement? The new ‘messiah’? No. The President with all constitutional powers can’t change the laws unilaterally. He/She will have to pass through the legislators to make any significant systemic change. This reality underscores the pivotal role of the legislature. Corruption and insecurity are merely acute symptoms (among others) of the real problems. A system overhaul is non-negotiable if we sincerely want to save the sinking ship. The legislators should therefore be the focus in 2019 because the fate of any PEACEFUL CHANGE is in their hands. If we can fill the National assembly with patriotic Nigerians, who are WILLING AND READY TO DO THE NEEDFULL, our National problems will be half-solved, if not solved completely.

Agricultural engineering. When you are done, borrow from a bank and start mechanized farming (cattle rearing combined with poultry farming). In 10 years, you will be rich enough to buy the bank and the university that trained you. The only application you will need to write after graduation is for a bank loan. No job hunting, no "I humbly apply" bull.shit.
The bolded part got me laughing hard grin. Seriously anyone intending to study engineering should go for a branch that he/she can easily build a business on. Someone highlighted how it is easy to go into consulting with a Civil Engineering degree and adequate post-graduate training and experience. Electrical Engineering is also a branch of engineering one can easily build businesses on. Agricultural Engineering however has the best prospect in terms of making one a multi-millionaire in 10years like you asserted. I wouldn't even advise an Agricultural Engineering graduate to go into farming directly. With a good loan the best aspect of Agricultural Engineering to invest on presently in Nigeria is Post-harvest Technology.

Computer science is not all about programing. Even in software development writing the code/ programing is just a tiny aspect. Due to low barrier to entry in the programing field everybody now feels computer scientist are no longer important. In terms of software development sef have you ever seen Nigerians build world class software that will power rockets or driverless cars. Or super apps like uber. The answer is emphatic No. Because the industry is saturated by deadbeat coders that think they are hippsters with know formal training or ideas about what software engineering is all about.
Abeg i don tire to type.
Thank you for this insight. Computer Science is gradually suffering the fate of Engineering in Nigeria with the mentality that it is all about 'programming' just like the thought that engineering is all about maintenance and repair. What many term programming is just coding, that is writing instructions in a language the computer understands. Programming is far deeper than that as it requires critical thinking and deep knowledge of algorithm and data structure.

Bros, you made some salient points. However, the issue of retraining graduates of some professional disciplines is a standard practice all over the globe. There is what is called job-specific training, where you are taught the nitty gritty of the role you'll be assigned to. That been said, one may only argue that it will take perhaps more time to bring onstream a graduate from this clime than his counterpart in the advanced world.

Also, that an engineering graduate can seamlessly walk into other fields further emphasizes its versatility in comparison to other fields.
Job-specific training is understandable because of dynamic company policies and different engineering standards. For example, if you are trained as an Engineer in the UK, you will be farmiliar with British and European engineering codes and may need job-specific training if you are taking up a design role in a Chinese company. Retraining 'graduates' generally is however not a standard practice all over the world. Rather in saner climes, they ensure you are certified professionally before you graduate in the real sense of it. The problem in Nigeria is that we do not take Engineering for the critical profession that it is just like we take Medicine and Law seriously. Will you be recognised as a Doctor or Lawyer without passing your professional exams? There used to be a policy known as SITSIE (Supervised Industrial Training Scheme in Engineering) designed to train Nigerian Engineering undergraduates for two years after HND or B.Sc. before they'll be allowed to go for NYSC and seek employment as professionals. What happened to SITSIE? We allowed it to die while the Law schools and Medical colleges are thriving and we are wondering what happened to the Engineering profession. Many don't even know what Engineering is all about. You don't call yourself an Engineer without neccessary certifications and experience in well organised societies. You will be arrested and prosecuted. What we have in Nigeria however is a situation where quackery is seriously frowned at especially in Medicine and Law but overlooked in Engineering. As a result, we allowed the Engineering profession to die slowly and it's now buried. When Chinese companies took over virtually all major Engineering projects in Nigeria, Nigeria Society of Engineers protested and guess what? No one took them seriously... grin
EducationRe: The Best Engineering Course To Study In Nigeria? by Niyi74(m): 5:39pm On Jun 19, 2018
To answer you directly, Electrical Engineering gives you the most options, not only in Nigeria but also anywhere else in the world you may later find yourself. Then if you are going for Electrical Engineering, do not join the bandwagon of electronics, telecommunication, computer engineering etc. There are too many specialists in that area already. Go for Power System Engineering and sub-specialise on renewable energy systems. That is the future. That said.

If I may ask, why are you interested in studying engineering in Nigeria? If all your plan is to graduate and start looking for job, you may want to reconsider. Most Nigerian Engineering graduates are unemployable without retraining. You will be trained with outdated curriculum and exposed to little or no practicals (some private universities like CU are quite better anyway, though still below international standard). When you graduate, you will have to take aptitude tests with thousands of 'Engineers' jostiling for typically 10slots of a Trainee Engineer position. The remaining graduates who fail to clinch the slots usually end up in banks or embracing 'IT' grin Those 'Trainee Engineer' positions are even fizzling out gradually as they cost companies lots of money and successfull trainees usuallly seek greener pastures. Nigerian Engineering graduates are now expected to go and acquire those skills themselves through post-graduate hands-on training within or outside Nigeria. That is why most advertiesed 'Trainee Engineer' positions include 0-2years experience as part of the requirements. For example, an Electrical Engineering graduate with HND or B.Sc. and Mechatronics training certificate from IIT will be picked for Automation Engineer position over a B.Sc. or B.Eng. Mechatronics graduate without post-graduate training or experience. In essence, if all you plan is to study engineering, graduate and look for a job, you must set aside at least 500k for post-graduate professional training (2milllion naira is ideal for training outside Nigeria) if you don't want to end up dumping your engineering degree for teaching, banking, software development, marketing... grin
