The western countries just want to keep getting our oil on the cheap. Devaluation is favorable when you are a manufacturing nation that exports your manufactured goods. As it is we don't manufacture jack and the CBN is having issues defending the value of the naira because the confused desperate man in the rock is hell bent on staying there even if it kills the whole country. How do you explain a situation where we are making more from oil right now and yet spending everything with nothing to show for it?

The crux of the matter is that our manufacturing industries have to be developed, if that is done, we can now export our manufactured goods at competitive prices. U can't force your man to perform, as someone posted, he's the head and you are the neck so you actually control him but that control should be subtle and not brutal ( i.e. kicking, slapping, pushing etc). You need to really have a heart to heart talk with him and go read up on how to solve the pre-mature e.jacu-lation thingy on the net or anywhere else and find a way of subtly getting him to agree to work on solving the e.jacu-lation problem thingy with you. There's no basis for comparing Ekiti with Anambra. As people have pointed out, it's stupid and every state doesn't have to be the same. That said you can only compare based on certain parameters. It's stupidity to compare on all fronts. Every state has it's good points and bad points as previous posters have said. And for the Ibo boy claiming to be from Ogun and ranting nonsense about Ogun state being great, bla bla bla and other such nonsense. I'll put it to you and wait for you to refute it that the only problem with the Yoruba race is Ogun state. They should be excommunicated from the race. They have their hands in every evil in 9ja, even against themselves. Is it Shonekan and Abiola or Obj and Abiola or even Diya and Abiola or what? Ogun state is the south-west's problem and I stand by that.

Now this is a topic I think I should post in rather than my usual browsing through.  My own experience wasn't as drastic as the Nepa cable and wire caning but we sure did get caned whenever we did wrong and It wasn't abusive or over-done and though it was painful back then, I believe we can't completely do away with it.

Growing up, I was very stubborn and troublesome (as in Na on top roof be my playing ground and the well was my swimming pool kind of play and I must add I broke my arm twice while playing foot ball.  ). I got beaten whenever I did wrong things but I think the one that sticks in mind more was the one of January 1st 1987 or 1988 (not too sure which year it was.) We are four kids in the family and the youngest came after a while cos she wasn't really planned for (the parents plan was to have 3 initially) so the age difference between her and the 3rd born was a bit wider than between the rest of us and she was kinda pampered and a bit spoilt. Anyway to cut the story short, You know back then when growing up, when our parents friends come to visit, before going they give you small money and we were all supposed to save it in our small piggy bank and we were doing that faithfully until yours' faithfully decided to use his own to buy biscuit (I remember the very first one i bought was that Nasco shortcake biscuit that's in a red pack, Do they still produce that stuff now?) and naturally gave everyone out of it and voila before you could say jack robinson everyone was also buying biscuit with theirs except the last born whose own was with our mum and she was very fond of doing amebo back then whenever she was offended or stuff like that. Being the last born, at this time she was also sleeping in our folks room.

On this occasion, can't remember exactly what it was we did to her but on the night of Dec 31st, she told our parents that we had been using our money to buy biscuits, so when we woke up and were thinking of all the jolliment that would come that day since it was the 1st day of a new year, the first thing our Dad did was ask us to go and bring our piggy banks. My younger brother had only spent a lil' bit out of his own, my elder sister was a bit better than him while yours faithfully had almost exhausted his piggy bank.  

So into our rooms we went and couldn't come out cos we knew what was coming, After some time, my younger brother and elder sister went out with theirs but yours faithfully just couldn't go out cos there was practically nothing to bring out. To end the story, that day we all got beaten seriously for spending our monies and mine was worst cos i was the ring leader. But it was with his belt and none of the cable wire beating stuff.

Having said that, I don't think most parents flog their kids because they hate them, it's probably 'cos they don't know better and I'm sure the proportion of children that turn out good cos of the beating is more than those that became recalcitrant and were worse of like Ujujoan's sister. And to the person who said that peeps turned out good inspite of the beating not cos of the beating 'cos they had high IQs' to start with, I beg to disagree, we have peeps with high IQs' who could turn that into negative uses like some of the yahoo yahoo boys we have or do you think they are all dumb heads? My grouse with the beatings is when it is abusive like some folks stories show.

I didn't like the beatings back then and the fear of the beating prevented me from doing some of those things again.  Having said that, I think not every offence deserves flogging. I remember in Pry 2 or 3 back then, when we travelled and stayed with one of my parents friends and in the room we the kids stayed in, we saw a powdered milk can full of money. After we had dropped the can, yours' faithfully went back and stole N20 from the can, now one Sunday, when we were going to Church, yours faithfully put the N20 in his pant so he could spend it outside, and my mum saw the money, to cut a long story short, I had to tell them where I got the money from. On this occasion, I wasn't beaten but the pained look on my Dad's face said a lot. That was the end of theft of any form from me. So it's not always about flogging cos kids are also reasonable. Now if this was Dayokanu, from the stories he told, I can only think he would have been tied to the stake and caned till he died that day.

@Tpia: Yeah so far I've learnt that joints and bones take longer to heal and believe you me this issue has taken me to see lot of people so I should be able to have a rough idea who looks real and fake. The guy once gave me something that was for another treatment 'cos he was drung when I got there. Anyway it's not a big thing. Thanks for your advise also. I'll check out the place recommended by Don Faszy and pray for the best. I know there's no miracle cure, all I'm saying is I should at least see some form of improvement or don't you think so?

Guys/Ladies please I need your help. I fell and sprained my hand (fingers) early this year but was a bit careless in treating it. This made the fingers to be stiff such that I can't make a fist any longer because the metacarpopholangeal (got the name from google) joint is stiff. I've been to the physiotherapist and they keep telling me it'll be a gradual process to get it normal again and they've been massaging the hand but Since August when I've been going, I haven't seen any noticeable improvement. Please and Please I need someone with some useful advice to help. I'm tired of the Physios and people have been advising that I go see any of the traditional bone setters but the one I went to see was  basically doing the same thing the Physios are doing with no noticeable improvement. I heard there are a lot of fake traditional bone setters around. Please does anyone know of any real one in Lagos? And if so hope he/she is not staying too far from Surulere axis? I'll be very grateful for any useful info.

Arsenal have handed a trial to young Argentine goalkeeper Damian Martinez with a view to a permanent £1.3m transfer.

The 16-year-old is due to arrive in England later this week after Arsene Wenger's side made contact with his club Independiente and he will spend a week at Arsenal's Colney training ground with a view to a permanent deal.

Reports in South America are claiming a deal worth £1.3m has already been agreed for the starlet.
