BusinessRe: Conversation With Sanusi On "New" Currency Policy by niyooo(m): 4:55pm On Aug 27, 2012
can the supporters of this policy just answer this contradictions for me?

1. The essence of a cashless economy is so that high value transactions are carried out via e-channels. Therefore, the regulatory authorities should discourage ease of carrying cash around in order to encourage use of e-channels. For example, if the highest denomination was N100 and I had to do a transaction that would cost maybe N2 million, that would equate to 200 bundles. Considering the difficulty involved in carrying so much cash around, i would rather use a POS machine or any other e-payment means available. However, with the introduction of N5000, that would equate to only 4 bundles!!! So how have you encouraged the cashless thing. The cashless thing and the N5000 are totally contradictory.

For the people talking about fines/penalties for withdrawing/depositing above the limits prescribed by the CBN, i am telling you on good grounds that the banks are already contravening this for their high net worth customers, they know what to do and that is what warranted the CBN to issue a new circular directing the banks to desist from doing this. No bank wants to lose its customers to other banks because it can't bend a simple CBN rule that the CBN will likely fail to detect.

2. We know that changing of N1 into coins fast-tracked its demise... I'll pass on this. i think no right thinking person that knows Nigeria's history can honestly make good sense of this.

3. I'm saying this for the last time, the answer to the high cost of cash management is the cashless policy and not introducing N5000. The mallam should put more efforts into the cashless thing and ensure it succeeds and concentrate on getting Nigeria's economy out of the doldrums. abegi angry angry angry

@ Jarus, You claim to be an Economist and I know you have some sense up there. How do you relate the cashless policy introduced by the CBN with the introduction of the N5000 notehuh Nigerians love carrying cash, you want to discourage them, then you should be thinking in terms of cancelling the higher denomination so that the inconvenience of carrying too much cash forces people to make use of e-channels and not introducing higher denomination to make it convenient for them to carry such without being noticed. All that talk about withdrawal and deposit limit penalties are being circumvented by the banks for their high profile customers and I’m not talking from what I heard, it’s from what I know.

Jarus, use your brain and stop swallowing everything SLS tells you hook, line and sinker. That was how you were arguing with me the other time on the issue of CBN not advertising before employing and could not provide evidence of the adverts. Some people have already given examples of the effect of making the N5, N10 & N20 coins. Nigerians are not suddenly going to fall in love with coins. In order to ensure that you don’t end up with coins, you decide to sell things for 4 for N50 rather than selling for probably N10 each. Coining those notes is going to fuel inflation without gainsaying. SLS just wants to award contracts so he can get cut-backs.

In developed nations where higher denominations are rarely used, it’s because the e-channel systems are working well. Introduction of the N5000 note has absolutely no correlation with the cashless policy being championed by the CBN. The excuse of ATM loading has already been clarified as a lie. And the lie that it is a cash management thing is so lame. That is what the cashless policy is supposed to address.

Those who have brains should read between the lines.

PoliticsRe: Akingbola’s Assets Are Up For Sale – Sanusi Lamido by niyooo(m): 7:20pm On Aug 02, 2012
Access bank did not institute the case against Akingbola, Lai Alabi, the stooge SLS put in charge of Intercontinental bank did that when he was in charge. When Access took over Intercontinental, it took over the case. Having said that Sanusi should learn to keep his mouth shut. There was no reason for him to be saying all that. It's not the CBN's job to dispose of properties of looters. There are other Government agencies set up to do that. He should concentrate on trying to get Nigeria out of the economic doldrums he has plunged us into. Sanusi's time will come eventually. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Akingbola should bear his cross. He stole people's money and should therefore pay for his crimes.

Thanks @ Missy B, The new site seems all jumbled up. This one is definitely tidier and better on the eyes. Think Seun should stick with this one and gradually implement whatever changes he wants to implement without changing the whole thing at once.

The CBN Governor does not report to the finance minister. The CBN is an autonomous body. Go check the CBN act 2007. Be sure of your facts please.  angry angry

Having said that, SLS started the whole s**t, therefore Fani kayode can say whatever he likes. As someone rightly observed, there's no difference between both of them. They are part of the misfortunes the country is cursed with. angry angry

Hi baba4u93,
Please I want to know if u can scan a Honda bulldog 96 model (V6) engine. My mechanic was not able to detect the fault. The car jacks before changing gear (it's automatic) instead of changing smoothly. I'll be looking forward to your response. Thanks
