Where the topic disappear go? I had to google it up b4 I could post. Watsup? @ Pak, U know there are various ways the CBN communicates with Banks. They can do that by moral suasion, monetary policy (OMO, MPR etc). Now one of the tasks of the CBN is to regulate inflation in the economy. Margin is something that is perfectly legal (i.e. worldwide) but 9ja being what it is, you have banks that now resort to abuse of the margin facility as i explained in my earlier post. The result of this is that stock prices are rising, which naturally leads to investors cashing in on their investments and making fantastic profits on their investment. There is thereby more money in circulation which invariably leads to increased inflationary pressures in the economy. Also when the banks resort to lending money to their stockbroking arms to invest in the capital market, this invariably means there is less money to lend out to their customers (manufacturers, individuals, corporate organisations etc) who can't bring in as much profit to the banks as they can get by "playing" in the capital market, this in turn has a very negative effect on the economy. At the very moment, The CBN Gov is on the hot seat (whether politically motivated or not) and is being careful in his acts and inactions. So he's not going to come out and agree to giving such a directive since it wasn't as if he sent out a circular which would have been implicative. But the fact is that he sure indicated that banks should stop giving such facilities to their stockbroking arms and they have stopped that. You know the thing with banking in 9ja is that many banks still cut many corners which are not always made known to the public, now if you (the Bank MD or whoever is in charge) know that your hands are not completely clean and the regulatory authorities know this also and you know that the regulatory authorities know about the "underhand" (couldn't think of a better word) deals and all that, I'm very sure you'll not want to unnecessarily run foul of such a regulatory body. I'm sure you get my drift. As they say 'he who comes to equity must come with clean hands". @ Alfa and Stan, U should have known Jisi was joking about the being married stuff. I knew that right away. The way married women post will be kinda different (Jisi,no pun intended o.) ![]() But Jisi come o, as Alfa challenged you, how you go give guarantee for just 10 years? Wetin go happen after the 10 years? And what if product no good for the whole 10 years, you go collect am back? ![]() Well Seun, You've been challenged to explain why you doubt that this is a good time to buy. The capital market is a long term market, now depending on the kind of investor that you are, this might be a good time to buy or sell. If for example you are the "follow the smart money" kind of investor, you'll see that the "smart money" in this instance (big time investors, and those that you believe should be in the know) are adopting a kind of sit down look attitude (i.e. they are not buying in the market) and are probably investing in other areas, then this is not the time to buy. On the other hand if you are the "contrarian" kind of investor, this is the time to buy. But aside from all that intellectual jargon, I think this is a good time to buy cos though the global economy is facing a slight recession, I don't think the slump will go on for too long. There's bound to be a recovery pretty soon. My own two cents anyway. @ Stan, You know what I always advise people? If you are gonna invest, then invest it your way so if you lose money you'll feel better than if someone gave you the "inside gist" and you got burnt. You know most of what you need to invest are really at your finger tips, all you have to do is just carve out a little bit out of your time to do the necessary groundwork. e.g. before you invest, you already have some sectors you are interested in (I'm saying this cos I know people have different biases as regards investment, some people will never invest in alcohol producing companies, others will avoid the Insurance or finance or manufacturing sector). So decide on the sector you are interested in. Prune the companies in that industry by doing a little research on them (it could even be online, just google up the company and see what has been posted about them in the recent past), you could also go to their websites (some organisations have their 5 year financial statements online) to get some info, compare how they performed in regards to their peers in the same industry, check out the projections they are making for the future; read it and decide how feasible it looks), You could go to different stockbroking firms websites to get some knowledge about how they rate these companies, if you are interested in the trend of their performance, you could also get it from such stockbroking firms' website. By this time I'm sure you'll have narrowed the companies down marginally, then at this point you can now seek other peoples' opinion on the various companies you have pruned the list down to and make your own decision. It's your money after all and no one should help you lose it. ![]() Right now I have other projects up my sleeve so I'm not up to date on the kind of research that can merit my recommending any company since I'm not gonna be investing in the nearest future cos of these projects. I'll just forget about the investments I have in the market for now and leave it to appreciate over time. As they say the Capital market is a market for long term investments and if you are interested in short term returns, you just might get your fingers burnt. I hail every other person o. Make i go sleep. Work dey tomorrow. |
@ Blessing29, I have one that i purchased in March this year. Haven't been able to use it much cos of the light situation in Nigeria. In fact I can count the number of times I've used it on the fingers of one hand. So if you are interested you can holler me @ niyibones@yahoo.com n I'll get the pics across to you and we can discuss. Ciao |
The thread's sure a more interesting place nowadays. What with a more positive Kuwena and more posts from the regulars and newbies and continued challenges to silent readers to contribute by Opoks and Stannesi. It's sure a nice place to while away time. Where I wan start from sef? ![]() Anyway Tommy, welcome back. How you dey? Hope u dey enjoy NLNG? Jisi, You try with that your tree o. As for me, I've learned not to really pay much attention to stuff like that and all those stars (horoscope) thing because I believe in all those things, you'll surely see something that pertains to you. I'm sure anyone that takes time to go through all that stuff on the tree might even end up seeing another tree that consists of more characteristics that he/she believes pertains to him than the one under which he/she falls as a result of being given birth to on a particular date. Also you be marketer? ![]() @ Pak as per fear about the stock market crashing. I think you should just relax, it’s just the market re-adjusting to the way it should actually be. One of the reasons for the downturn can be attributed to the directive by the CBN Governor that Banks should stop giving “margin” to stockbroking firms. What obtained previously was that “most” of the banks gave margin facilities to their Investment/stockbroking subsidiaries and those ones used such loans to purchase stocks in the stock market, of course due to the high demand for stocks, the stock price will inevitably be on the rise and the market would keep experiencing increases as was the case before the directive. However with the directive, the demand for stocks is not as high as used to obtain and as is explained by the law of demand and supply, when supply is more than demand as we have now, the price of the subject matter (stocks in this case will reduce). Of course the aim of the whole exercise by the Banks was to be able to declare the huge profits that they regularly do because at the end of the year, they'll consolidate all the accounts of their subsidiaries while presenting their financial statements and what most people are interested in is the amount of cash dividends I'm being paid, the number of bonus issues I am being offered. They rarely take time to study the financial statements, The Balance sheet, P & L, Cash flowstatement, VAS etc. By studying the CFS, you'll be able to know how the Banks (or any other business) are actually making the huge profits they declare. Is it from their actual operations or through other means. And as I'm sure you've observed it's not only in Nigeria that the markets are being bearish, it's a global thing and the world is a global village so how do you think we can be exempt from such? So peeps make una just relax, the market will re-adjust to what it should be and it would not be business as usual with stocks experiencing crazy mind-blowing increases with no visibly justifiable reasons to explain it. I think eventually the stock prices will reflect what they should actually be and then they can start appreciating based on realities i.e. demand and supply (which would be based on investors perception of how the companies are performing). So Pak just relax, the stock market is meant to be a market for long term investments but in our Nigeria with our get rich quick mentality, we wan turn am to short-term investment market. ![]() @ Opoks so for all your talk, fear dey quick catch you? Anyway care to intimate/enlighten us on the new forms of investment you are undertaking? Make we follow you?On the marriage thingy, I see you guys are disecting the issue well well so make I just siddon look for that issue. Kuwena, You know one of the good things about you is that somehow your contributions are always sure to generate more contributions from other posters, hitherto in some periods such contributions have generated a lot of ill feeling but with the new positive you, I'm sure the thread is going to be more relaxing and enjoyable to read. Keep the new spirit bro. You know Stan, you are one crazy dude, I'm yet to see a post from you where you don't post something funny(crazy) or at least something to smile about. Kenosky you turn yourself to gold bah? Anyway whenever you come back you get plenty petition to answer. Make i go crash, flenty flenty things to do tomorrow. Nite all. |
@ Raf, if WaVixens' threadmill is no longer available, I have one I want to dispose of. I bought it in March this year but with the situation with Nepa in this country, I've given up trying to use it, If you are interested, You can holler at me at niyibones@yahoo.com. I don't have the pictures now but I can get them across to you if you are still interested. Ciao |
Stan, I dey kuleeee. Ow u dey? You n your funny(crazy) posts. Narcissism indeed. Anyway nothing do you. @ Biafran, Opoks is only being himself. He's not arrogant. Plenty water don pass under bridge, no just comot now dey judge anyone. ![]() Pak, You n Mukina, no turn the thread to football thread. I wonder if she does any other thing than eat Arsenal, drink Arsenal and dream Arsenal. Hopefully I'll still be able to make jest of her when the next season ends n they live up to their usual billing again. Anyway, Muki, You r very welcome to the thread. As Pak said it's just a meeting place for different individuals with different perceptions of life and different but definitely intelligent beliefs about issues. Turkey really tried tonight, My heart went out to them but I was supporting Germany but they sure did surprise me (If I coulda switched sides, maybe I'll have supported them because of the way they played but I don't like being on the losing side, I hope Russia wins tomorrow, I sure love the way they've improved). Pak as per the other question, send me your e-mail addy or YIM. Muki, congrats that you have light 24/7, For naija where we dey, that is a real luxury and is not feasible like right now. ![]() Pak u no serious, Who tell you say you, Opoks and Alfa no dey the same boat? As long as the issue is marriage, till they take the step, na the same boat all of una dey. As per the singles on both sides talking about not meeting the right person, I guess it's all a matter of perception. If you have somethings you think you can't live with, then why bend over just because everybody is getting married? The important thing is not being married but being "happily married". And also getting to that stage mentally where you know you are actually ready to settle down. Make i no too talk story.Well I said it, I knew you (Kuwena) would post either before you leave or immediately you arrive in the US. Congrats to you n good luck. I only wonder why you would want to write a book about "The world of enemies". Don't let the "little" sad experiences you've had in your brief stay on earth becloud your wonderful intelligent mind. Try to rise above board in some things. (I'm sure you'll understand what i'm talking about). I'm sure you are not telling us what we didn't already know about the US. We all know we have problems here in Nigeria, we all know the causes of such problems, we all know how we can go about resolving these problems. But we are not honest enough and genuinely in love enough with this great nation of ours to go about resolving those problems. Some choose to take the first bus (or plane) out and seek a better life away from the problems, some get lucky in their search for greener pastures, some don't. It's all called living and life doesn't stop because of the circumstances they find themselves. Some choose to stay behind and make the best out of a pathetic situation, always believing that it will get better and that after you have fallen to the lowest point, there's only one place you can go. UP. I think Nigeria is at it's lowest point now and there's only one place we can go UP. A worse point we could be at is at war but I believe we've fought the only war God destined for us back in '67 before all (I believe) of us that are posting on this thread were born. Kuwena, God did not make a mistake in creating you as a Nigerian, He intended for you to be a Nigerian and that's why you were born and raised up in Nigeria. You can take the monkey out of the bush but you can't take the bush out of the monkey, so you can naturalize and do whatever you wish to do over there but you'll still be Nigerian through and through. In every situation you find yourself, give thanks ("In every situation", not "for every situation" , what if you were born over there and ended up a junkie? was killed in a drive by gang shoot out? and many other negative things that could have happened? The things you've passed through while here are the things that made you the "you" that you are today and they are the things that will define the "you" that you will become. Our formative years, when we are younger moulded us and made us who we are now, it's going to be very difficult for anyone to now start re-inventing him/her self at this stage. Anyway make I no too bore everyone with my epistle. All I'll say is Kuwena congrats to you, I'm very happy for you 'cause you are following "your" dream. Whether you like it or not, you are a Nigerian so make sure you represent us well and fully over there. Do take care of yourself and try to remove the little glitches in you that makes you imperfect. (N.B. we all have our different glitches, all I'm trying to say is always strive to be a better Kuwena). Make I stop here. Jisi, welcome back. Annify chips 'n' chicken bits once in a while, how you dey? Hope say u no dey near Bonga when them MEND strike o. Make sure say you dey carry your diving suit around anytime wey u dey go that side. ![]() Alfa and everyother person I hail o. But Alfa, You take style finish Kuwena for that your post o!! ![]() All of una wey dey ask of Kenosky, Una no hear wetin i tok before? I say white man don vex as them dey kidnap them brothers for naija so them don kidnap Kenosky back for there, them still dey deliberate on the ransom wey them go declare for hin head. Kenosky you no go come back come dey post your early morning - late night one liners? Anyway we dey await you make u come dey follow us enjoy light and mosquito for here. Good night all. |
Opoks, Yeah I know Kuwena will be back, most likely sometime before he takes off for his Yankee trip or after he might have experienced life in his "paradise" a bit. But I sure hope he doesn't get disappointed with the way he has hyped the US so much when he sees the reality of life. But as I said sometime before, it's his life and he is following his dream no matter how warped it seems to some of us. As they say, the taste of the pudding is in the eating so make hin go chop hin own pudding. I'm sure he'll regale us with life as it is with him over there and I'm sure he'll not come here "sugar coating" any stories. So good luck to him. That line about his three girlfriends was quite funny. ![]() On the lighter side, while going through previous posts, I couldn't help but notice the dream Kuwena said he had as a kid or something where he said three white men were chasing him in his dreams, because my interpretation of such a dream if I had it would be completely different from Kuwena's. Wallahi, if na me the moment I wake up, I go start binding and casting the devil because that kain dream I go interprete am say white man wan carry me go for slavery again. . Anyway this is just an imagination of a mischievous mind. As una don dey tok of marriage last time before I go for exam I bin dey think say by the time I resume Pak or even Opoks sef go don troway IV before I come!!! Pak, crusader of marriage, wetin dey? You don abandon the mission? ![]() Anyway make I go crash, hopefully I'll pop in tomorrow to drop a few lines. Have a nice night Y'all. |
Hi All, I think I'm finally up to speed not that I read everything but at least after browsing through I think i have an idea of how things have been. Opoks is still ruling the waves. Though your words were a bit strong but I must confess I'm much more sympathetic to your views than to those of Kuwena's. Kuwena once again has left the thread, ( I'm sure he'll keep quiet for a while and then come back to post again), but Kuwena not to worry, we'll be expecting your next post whenever you decide to post. I'm not willing to go into what the bone of contention has been but Kuwena as I think I've advised you before, be careful (wary) of what you post or put out in the open, so that it doesn't come back to haunt you. I know that right now in 9ja, peeps get away with all sorts of atrocities, that's why you have peeps that have stolen and done all sorts of horrible things to this nation being recylced year after year and nothing is done to them but I can assure you a time will come in Nigeria that such stuff will no longer be acceptable (cos i know that some day, we'll get it right cos there's just no way we can continue like this), now just imagine if tomorrow or something you have the opportunity to actually hold an important position in Nigeria and all these XXXXXXXX words you've been uttering are brought up. You think anyone's gonna be in a hurry to support or express belief in you? Anyway a word they say is enough for the wise. Alfa, Happy Birthday in arrears. Aniffy, Stan, Pak, Jisi, recent posters. How una dey? Kenosky last time wey I post, I dey ask if u still dey send your early morning, late night one-liner, now I see say even that one sef, u no dey do again. Abi white man don wise up start to dey kidnap blackman too? Anyway how u dey? Gotta go now, work beckons. |
Hi All, Still haven't gotten around to catching up with the thread. Had to travel again and now I've resumed work again. But I'm sure I'll do that (catch up with the flow) in the next couple of days. Hope Opoks and Kuwena don finish dem roforofo fight? Kenonsky U still dey drop those your early morning late night one liners? Alfa and every other person I hail o. Make i go sleep. Work dey tomorrow, maybe I go get chance read thread small tomorrow for office. Ciao. |
Hi All. Seems just like yesterday since i posted last. Missed You'all. Can't read through the post yet, but it seems I don't have too much catching up to do, the thread hasn't moved that much (relieved). Anyway just want to say hi to all that have kept the thread going. Kenosky, I see say you still dey for Oyinbo land. You no go do quick come back come dey follow us enjoy light for 3 hours out of 24? Anyway I hail all of una. Post more later. Ciao |
I'm not surprised at the way you Ass**nal abi "Yanshnal" guys dey come post for this thread. Considering that your season ended a very long time ago, you've got nothing better to do than gaze, wonder and marvel at how we could achieve what you guys couldn't do. I mean you just don't believe how your baby players and dumb manager managed to mess up your seasons. Eeyah, sorry o. Better luck next season. But you have one consolation. You always get to be at the top of the league when it's most inconsequential. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON. When it matters most you can always be found among the masses. If una no hurry up you na go drop below top 10 next season. Hopeless people. ![]() |
Well Opoks, I'll say you've taken the Bull by the horn rather than crying for new topics by working on Stans post. Nice one. But wait o, hope say no be say u wan take style disappoint your chick wey u don promise say u go carry go vac? Just joking. But nice views anyway and thanks to Stannesi for making some of us see the way life is on the other side or the fence.See the Pot "Pak" calling kettles Black? Oya bell the cat now. Announce date. And speaking of marriages sef, You for allow Kenosky come back first o, before he go just vex go carry one white woman come tok say hin wan marry. ![]() Guys gotta run now. I'll not be posting for the next 2 weeks or thereabouts 'because i have to prepare for an exam and the time i spend on the net (not just N/L) is really chopping into my reading hours. So if I no post, no be say I run away. But i'm sure i'll see interesting things to read whenever I get back. Nite everyone. |
As others have said I wonder why you Ass**nal and Woman DisU. fans dey take medicine for our headache? AG was doomed to get the boot whether he won or lost. I'm sure your skulls aint too thick to prevent that penetrating? It was only a matter of time and as you've been challenged, if you love AG that much why don't y'all campaign for him to take over at your clubs? Maybe you are all scared because we are about to get it right this time. We are not like others who believe all that matters is participating. Winning is all that counts and if you aren't getting it, Y should we console ourselves with at least we tried when there's a better option? |
Hi All, Had a pretty hectic weekend. Happy Birthday Jisi. May the next 365 days bring you the fulfillment of your short term desires. Amen. Gotta Run now. Big day tomorrow. Nite All. |
@ 4play get off Ibime's case. I'm sure you both should have more constructive things to write about. And you don't have to be insultive to make your point. Ok? To contribute to the sacking of AG, I really never saw him staying beyond this season. No matter how insensitive Abramovich wants to be he'll have seen that AG was just never really welcome by the fans moreso due to the manner he was appointed, I think it kind of seemed like he got in through the back door to replace their beloved JM. So the rejection by the fans would have bruised Abramovich ego, and he sure does have a big ego. I really hope we don't get Rijkaard because I just don't see his type of game selling in the premiership. I don't want him to come and make us another Ass**nal. I think it'll be either Manchini or Hiddink who by the way has not renewed his contract with the Russian team and is being paid by Abramovich but I think he'll want to try his hands out with the Russians till after EURO '08 and we must remember the tournament (EURO) will be over be4 the next season and Chelsea posted on their website that they have no further comments till further notice so I think we might just be coachless till after the tourney but these are just my conjectures anyway. I guess time will tell who gets to coach our team next season. I really don't see JM coming back to Chelsea. |
At all True blues. I've read some of the recent posts and agree with many of them. I think we need a serious overhaul of both team and Coaching crew and I also think we need to think seriously about our pattern of play, we need to be getting more goals in rather than just being content after scoring one or two and we just need to get away from this constant 4-5-1 pattern we should get someone that is willing to be more experimental in the saddle. Grant most times is too scared of making changes and taking responsibilities though I don't blame him much after a difficult season of trying to pick up from where the special one left. I also think Drogba should come in for more blame than either Anelka or Terry. What the heck got into him to do something like that in such an important match? Was he crazy? If he hadn't been sent off, he'll probably have taken one of the penalties and though there's no guarantee we'll have won at the end of the day but at least we'll have had less "only if's" to moan about. Anyway it's all a game it's over this season and we can only look at the future. As someone suggested earlier, I think we should let Drogba go and get attackers that would be more commited to the club. Drogba's problem is his ego and the fact that we haven't really got any other serious attacker contending with him in the club. All the other attackers have proven themselves to just be empty barrels with nothing to give. Just look at the line up : Pizzaro, Anelka, Shevchenko, all hitherto fairly good strikers before they came only to come the club and be complete wash outs. I think we should get more of the younger strikers that are still looking to improve and achieve something for their careers than all these ones we are getting that have already seen it all.Anyway that's just my 2cents. The loss was sure painful but we have to move on and learn from our past mistakes. |
Opoks. I LOVED your write up. Kenosky (ABC) You dey celebrate pass the original Man. U. fans!!!! You worry o. I guess Arsenal is number two despite the fact they didn't get anywhere? If the parameter being used to judge is the Champions league, then Chelsea'll have to be number 2. If it's something else, then I guess it'll be false for even the Man. U. fans to claim they are number 1 in the world. ![]() Kuwena, It's your dream follow it. Congrats. |
Yeah watever. We'll be back. And if una need money take buy players, we fit lend u. And don't you wake up to reply me again this night or else i go carry egbe come kidnap you for UK Damn the memory still rankles though. Chei see wetin Terry cause. ![]() |
And Ass**nal deserved to be there? DAMN. We sure were unlucky. But it's all over now. We'll regroup and be back next season. As one of my friends remarked last season. He said the most important time to be on top of the premier league is at the end of the season. Arsenal have the distinct honour of only being there at the beginning of the season. ![]() DAMN MAKE I GO CRY. WE'LL BE BACK. |
Kenosky. When u turn to ardent Man. U fan like this? Na wah for una. No worry we go achieve wetin una no fit achieve with all una small boys wey una pack put for squad, tok say u wan win. ![]() |
Hey everyone, I'm sure we are all doing good. Stan u worry o!!! Anyway happy birthday in arrears and to your mum too. Hope u took her for a treat or something? The treat wey she don treat u don reach, na ur turn to dey trip her now. ![]() Pak, Kenosky and other ABC (Anyone but Chelsea) crew. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. 2moro's the day. Pak na so una talk b4 we trash Liverpool, dull game boring game 1-1. But sha lets see what happens, as I always say it's not played on the pages of the web or on paper but on the pitch. But for me, I believe Chelsea will make my season tomorrow. We sure deserve it. Anniffy, make ur farmers no kidnap u o!!! But come to think of it, no be Niger Delta u dey go? No be on top water u suppose dey go? Which one be farm for there? Hope say u sabi swim? Kai Kuwena for all this talk wey dey ground na Philosophy u still dey tok? Abeg try watch match tomorrow. Variety is the spice of life u know? ![]() Alfa na after protest you dey inform "Union members" make dem join you for strike? Your own kain Adams Oshiomole na war o!!!!! Make i go crash. The countdown begins. UP BLUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. |
Hi all, Kenosky u better go register for bridge sharp sharp or i go ask my boys make them kidnap u the moment u enter Bonny. And make sure say u no leave any little Kenosky's behind for Mama Charlie land o. ![]() Aniffy, thank God say you still dey. Forget all that thing, u no hear wetin Femi Kuti say? He say something about person wey tok say hin fit fight karate wey wan follow area boy fight Anyway just posted that to draw you out. I'm sure you're kul. ![]() Well Kuwena, I think the earlier posters have said it all. It's not even a question of opportunity cost because you are not sacrificing anything for the other. So methinks it's better to stay there and save a bit more. I'm guessing Chima's your brother, so I think it'll be cool if he comes stay with you for a while, u guys never know when next you'll have that kind of opportunity to relate that closely again for a while. On your religion thingy, I choose not to comment. @ Alfa nice one. Let me add this. At least for now i can be sure i don't need N500m to get $2.00 and I can also be sure the next person sitting next to me in the bus or the mall or walking along the street with me is not strapped up with bombs and will blow up the next minute. Stan, Pak, Jisi (In absentia) and all others I hail o. Make i go sleep. I wish everyone a blessed week. |
Hi all, Hope the weekend's going well? Pak I second you in congratulating our "granpas'" and na the two of them combine score in a way. ![]() Alfa nice write up. Stan I salute you too and Kuwena. Jisi, Hope training's going well? Wey that Kenosky boy sef? For say hin don resume for Bonny now, I for don dey fear maybe them don kidnap am. Hey Kenosky, hope say one kain white woman never kidnap you for that side as them give you small break? Take am easy o. No wound yourself. At least till after 21'st when i go invite you come follow me pop champagne. I don already place am on ice. ![]() Make I go sleep. Nite all. |
Morning all, Thread seems dry. Pak wey you dey? Come give us latest on happenings around the world. The earthquake in China where other buildings withstood the quake while schools collapsed and this in a country that has mandated people not to have more than one child. You can just imagine the parents grief at the loss of their loved ones. And the latest on the Burmese drama and the latest from Zimbabwe where Z$500 million note has just been introduced by the Government which is equivalent to USD2!!! I doubt if redenomination sef fit save that country with that kind of inflation. I wonder when African leaders will get their heads out of the clouds and do the right thing by that country. Well I guess they wont 'cos if they had half the chance that Mugabe has, they'll probably do worse. You know i actually laughed when Tsvangirai went to Ota to meet Obj to solicit his help. This is hoping that the only thing that brings out posting is not when we start "attacking" Kuwena when he posts his mind. So guys keep the thread going. Aight? Wey that Kenosky sef? Kenosky where you dey? You don go start fasting and prayer for Woman U? You better hurry up accept the chelsea offer while stocks last. I no fit beg for you later when you decide to see the light o. ![]() I'm outta here. Gotta go crash. Peace out. |
Kenosky, You no go grab the offer quick quick? By the time we win Champions league it's going to go up to like £100. So better hurry while stocks last. ![]() Annify yeah i feel you. Some of those theory actually do make sense although no be all dey applicable to our Nigeria sha. Good night everyone. |
Kenosky, You no serious. You no go quick apply, Blues fan ticket go soon finish o. No worry I go keep one for you. ![]() Opoks, I have this friend who has the following as one of his signatures :"To love oneself is the beginning of a life long romance", guess this applies to you as per your last post. ![]() Oh. Ok. Jisi so that was the good news? ![]() On a lighter note: WETIN DEY DO ECONOMISTS SEF? (Hope say the economists for thread no go tear me up o!!! )The problems wey economists go cause for this world heen, na only God fit save us. I've done some professional programs that involved reading up on economics and you go see some kain theory wey be say u go come dey wonder say wetin the person wey form am think go that kain side? (Reminds me of the film "A beautiful mind" )Economist fit sit down now, look look look sotay come decide say me ma suppose create theory. Hin fit look the symbols wey we dey take form smileys, decide say as the symbol for smile be (two dots) above a (concave bracket) and the symbol for frown be (two dots) above a (convex bracket), and concave na the inverse of convex, that one mean say a smile is directly inversely proportional to a frown. Hin go form Null hypothesis and Alternative Hypothesis come tok say hin don create theory. Na hin other Economists too go come put head together dey plot graph dey do statistics, Quantitative Analysis, trend analysis, Regression analysis, Calculus, correlation, standard deviation, risk analysis, variation, variance, etc etc come start to dey agree and disagree with am. Before u know wetin happen different school of thoughts don dey ground and Theory don dey ground be that o. Then you go start to dey hear Keynesian Economist, (Kenosky school of thought Just a figment of the writers imagination. I know economists are very useful and help in some ways despite all the hundred and one different schools of thought wey dey. ![]() @ all have a great night. |
@Alfaprime, I don't think you said anything untoward that should ruffle any feathers. You are just trying to show love to a brother. I only hope the brother sees it and appreciates it for what it is. And Kuwena, u know I've been thinking about this your idea thingy, you just might want to enter it into this UBA Dragonsden they are advertising about here in 9ja. Lets see what they'll think of it. ![]() Everyone have a nice night. Gotta go crash. I'm fagged out. |
Kenosky it's still the ABC(Anyone but Chelsea Stan why u dey congratulate am? Him na Ass, nal fan now, Na ABC just dey worry am. ![]() Anniffy I think we'll just agree it exhibits features of both a weak and semi-strong. Yeah I agree the Bulls seem to be back, let's hope it keeps that way for a while. At least for the sake of those wey get small change invested in some companies. ![]() Kuwena me i no sabi ur Ibo o, but i think I have an idea what it is. Nothing do u. ![]() @ all may the new week be truly wonderful for us all. |
@ all good morning, i can see the thread is progessing well. I have a few things I'll like to reply to and I don't see a way it's going to be brief so please indulge me. First I'll like to comment on Opoks last post, I don't think i quite agree with all you posted about to have taken soft loan to buy more of PHB stocks unless you actually did your research and were "very sure". I know someone who bought Nigeria Breweries sometime in 2005 or thereabouts when it was more than N100 per share, (I'm not sure what the exact share price was but i think it was about N120) and not too long after the share price crashed to N40. (I think this was due to the bonus issue they gave around that time or something). Now assuming such a person had taken soft loans or even any loan to buy it, where would that have left him? Or if someone had taken loan to buy All States Bank share offer or any of the other failed or abysmal performing offers, where would that have left the person? So please unless you are relatively certain don't just invest for investment sake. The issue we have here in Nigeria is that most times we just invest without actually doing our research, But that's not what i really want to comment about. I just felt i shouldn't let it pass before someone goes to borrow to invest and now gets into trouble, I think i saw a post like that somewhere on nairaland where someone said he used his school fees to buy transcorp shares. @ Pak, I meant the Govt are thawing, It could be better but it could also be worse, just that they aren't thawing fast enough. It's a double edged sword situation and as you rightly pointed out Sovereignty should be respected but @ what price? I don't think i can add more to what you've posted, you did great justice to the issue. @ Annify, welcome back. As per the NSE, don't you think it should be Semi-strong form? For a weak form, the Share price only reflects historical prices while for a Semi-strong, it reflects historical prices and all publicly available information, this is what i think is reflected in the NSE though there are pickets of strong form where some share prices reflect privately held info and you just see those shares rising without any justifiable reason for that. My other grouse is that the SEC (or NSE) mignt not be on top of their game because if you look at the recent suspension placed on trading of some companies stocks due to non-presentation of yearly reports or something, why should they have allowed it to go on so long before they did that? But at least we thank God they are still working, albeit not fast enough. They should be more proactive if you ask me. I also agree with you that fundamental analysis is better than technical analysis. I favour Fundamental analysis too but i also combine that with technical analysis. And yes for an economy to progress there must be inflation but it has to be controlled very well by the Central Banks so that it doesn't get out of hand, controlled inflation stimulates economic activities so there has to be a balance between the two. So on that point you are spot on. Now over to u, Kuwena. We are not sparring only exchanging ideas. ![]() The good thing about life is one chooses who or what you want to believe, that's what makes us unique in our own different ways. You chose to agree with one great "Nkrumah" and disagree with another "Achebe". That's okay. 2. Niyoo, Kwame Nkrumah was a politician. Achebe is a writer. Who would I rather believe on political issues? (recall the error called 'ad verencundiam'?) I don't think your response to my statement is really apt, but based on your analogy let me post this. "Femi Fani-Kayode" or "Walter Ofonagoro" or "Jerry Gana" etc is a politician but "Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie" or "Wole Soyinka" or "late Ken Saro Wiwa" or "late Fela" etc are not politicians. So who would you rather believe on political issues? So as i posted somewhere earlier, we are all unique individuals and God has given us unique brains to think so it's up to us to choose what to agree or disagree with and not necessarily agree because anyone is an authority on a subject matter. As per your comment that I said your business proposal is not practicable, if you read my response, you'll see what I explained as being impracticable. What I said is impracticable is the idea of getting a hundred young and dynamic individuals to save N2m, resign their jobs and say they are setting up an industry or whatever. Please please and please always reply to my posts and not your idea of what i posted. You've actually not said too much you've only explained yourself better and that's ok. You've explained what you have in mind better and as some peeps have said. Good luck to you. It'll be a tall order and don't worry I won't be one of the Directors or whatever but i wish you luck. It's your dream pursue it. I see Anniffy has recommended a book to you, that's good, I'm sure you'll get some good ideas from there. You said it'll be a PLC. Is the name also going to contain "cult"? You know one thing that has been proven to be a winner any day? Brand name. If you have a good brand name, it's a big asset for you. Now "cult" is percieved negatively all over the world, how do you plan to market your brand which will have cult attached to it? Or how do you plan to educate every one about it's activities? So I'll advise you to think twice again about this your cult name you keep bandying about. Not many people i know of will want to be publicly associated with any thing that has cult attached to it. I'm very sure you don't want me to start a dissertation on GDP, GNP, NI etc and what constitutes what. I only asked for your clarification because i didn't understand what you posted, but now you've explained better I can contribute on that issue. The Government is not directly responsible for the growth of the produce value but they are not only responsible for ensuring political stability but for ensuring that there is an enabling environment that would favour the factors of production so that the benefits of capitalism can be fully enjoyed. So back to the issue, are you trying to insinuate that the Government in 9ja has created an enabling environment or what? And GNP is Gross National Product and not productivity. ![]() Abeg make i go sleep. On a lighter note, @ Kenosky on second thoughts maybe na Kuwena stannesi draw, u know say na him dey talk about cult and the pix take style resemble cult logo. Oya stannesi yarn for this matter, who you draw? ![]() |
Much as I'll like to just siddon look and see other people's ideas on the issues being discussed, I just can't help but respond to some. Don't worry It'll be brief. ![]() I'll narrow it down to Nigeria and not developed countries where they have a more realistic figure for their inflation figure. I'm sure I never suggested that inflation only reduces the value of saved money, so please I don't want to be quoted out of context. The difference between saving and investing is that with investing, the potential exists for the invested funds to grow at a rate faster than the inflationary rate. With savings, inflation in Nigeria will just rubbish the money with the rate one can get for the saved funds (Abi how much Intercontinental dey pay on fixed deposit? Not to talk of mere savings). So one is better off investing than saving because that way you have a chance or preserving if not increasing the "real" value of your money. Kuwena when analysing issues that have to do with industries and production and all that, wise up to the fact that the world is a global village and different countries have "comparative advantage" to produce different products and even after factoring in transportation costs and other associated costs, the costs of such products are still cheaper than what may be obtained in other countries without such advantages. The way Nigeria is right now, we do not have any advantage to compete with any country at all because whatever advantages we had has been frittered away over the years. For example, we now import oil from Malaysia though we gave the kernels to them in the first place. I don't think i get your point with the GNP thingy so maybe you'll explain better next time ko? Before you start accusing me of not reading and understading you well. ![]() You are talking about solar energy!!! Why is it that companies that were given licenses to build refineries so many years ago haven't done that? Even those that have been chopping our oil right from the git go haven't built a single refinery? If you answer that then i might respond to that post. Rotary International and other such Organisations are not full time projects for the members and whatever contributions they make are voluntary. I don't see the basis for comparison with what you proposed. Getting 100 young enterprising individuals to come together to do whatever. That's just not feasible. As i asked how do they operate? There has to be a constitution or something or else you'll have 100 people pulling in a hundred different directions. For example why should an Annify or Alfa or Wandel or any of the others leave their current jobs to come together to take directions from a Kenosky or Opoks or Stan even if they don't agree with his proposed project? ![]() The good thing about life is one chooses who or what you want to believe, that's what makes us unique in our own different ways. You chose to agree with one great "Nkurumah" and disagree with another "Achebe". That's okay. I'll stop here. I want to read from others. It's the best way to learn. Y? When one talks (types, writes etc) you only type what you know but when you read (listen) to others you get to hear what you may not know. Kuwena I'm very sure it's not only Stan you want to hear from, though I don't see much correlation between what you both are typing but I'm sure you don't only want to hear from someone who agrees with you, Or do you? Nah I'm sure you don't, that would be Sycophancy which we always accuse our leaders of doing. I choose not to comment on your other postings now,not because i agree with them but because i want to hear other peoples views. The ones i responded to, i just couldn't let go. So other people over to una. @ Pak, thanks for reminding us all to look beyond our immediate problems atimes and see other people's own. The Burma case is just so disheartening, but i think things are getting better. Kenosky, na you Stan draw for there? Chei!!! Na wah o. See wetin exam cause. ![]() Na wah o. The thing still long. ![]() |
Before i respond to other issues, this is much better, we are discussing issues and not personalities or veiled criticisms of other individuals. I'm not mentioning names but let's please leave personalities out and continue like this, it makes for better discourse that way. Failing in any venture is really not failure, it's just a lesson of one more way not to go about a project (that's why you hear some people say "I failed my way to success" , now to Opoks experiences which he has been kind enough to share, I'll say he has learnt a couple of more ways not to go about projects, ventures or what have you. He might have gotten his fingers burnt but the important thing is that he learns the lesson ( and that is what i said earlier about most of us being in the risk taking stage of our lives). Which brings me to another issue, we have many people who go their whole lives in "gainful" employment and when they retire, they just wilter away and before you know what's happening, you hear that they are dead or something. Y? Because they weren't adventurous enough and weren't interested in what went on outside of their cocooned world of being "gainfully" employed. Though i don't know the projects Opoks went into but to me he is certainly better off than maybe other colleagues of his, who just collected their monies and saved it. Y? He has learnt a couple of new ways "not to do things". So for example if he and the "saving" type other colleague are let loose on the world tomorrow, he already has an advantage compared to them, he has experimented before and has some beneficial advantage over them who will just have to start the experimentation process and can get burnt in the process. The good thing is that he is at the stage where he can take those risks now.Kuwena, that was Y i asked if it was just savings or investment before I delved into my long "dissertation". So if we are both talking about investment, then that's ok. Though I'll still beg to differ on saving to invest, I think i'll just stick with plain investing, when you say save to invest, it can be assumed you are talking about saving in the bank or something and definitely inflation is going to eat into the saved funds and reduce the "real value" of that fund compared to say if you invest it, if it is invested wisely you can be sure that at least the real value of your funds will be preserved because the investment should generate a rate that is higher than the inflation rate. You don't really have to save to invest, start investing from the word go, you don't have to accumulate fund to start investing, investing starts small and grows as time goes by, 50k here, 20k there, 100k there and before you know it, you have the first million and the next and the next. And the good thing about investing right from the word go rather than saving is that you don't have idle funds just lying around waiting to accumulate which might never happen because something might just happen to help you chop the money, like someone comes with a teary tale about some misfortune and not having a heart of stone, you might decide to loan out some of the saved funds (back to that soft loan issue ) and it'll take a while before you get it back albeit with no interest and not only that, you'll be getting less 'because inflation has reduced the real value of those funds and all that is if you do get it back. But if it were tied up in investments, you sure are not going to liquidate your investments just to help, more so if the investment is yet to break even.Kuwena I still beg to disagree with your take on the industries thing, it's still a bit naive if you ask me, The US's, Japan's and China's of this world are not where they are because their people established industries (Our people also established industries, but they are packing up on a daily basis), they are where they are because they had honest (not necessarily good) leaders, leaders that genuinely loved their countries. That were willing to sacrifice for the common good rather than a selective few as we have in this "Great?" nation of ours. I'm sure you are seeing the outcomes' of the various probes, those things didn't start today or yesterday or in the last 7 - 8 years, it has always been there and that's why we are where we are as a nation to day. Those countries are where they are because the leaders would not condone situations like what we had with the IPP's under Obj and DFFRI's under IBB and many other white elephant projects that have been the hallmark of Nigeria. Monies are disbursed, projects are not embarked upon and nobody questions anybody. (This is a much wider topic and not one for today and let me not digress too much from the issues at hand). These are some of the factors that contribute to closed industries and ruined lives and the embarrasingly high level of unemployment we have in this country. I make bold to tell you that Nigerians are some of the most enterprising individuals we have on earth and if we had half has much infrastructure as some of these countries you mentioned have we'll be way way above, (how much can one achieve in a nation of over 140 million that generates less than 3000 Mw of electricity , the backbone of any industry) but we have been unfortunate in our choice of rulers and this has had a terrible multiplier effect on so many other things. (Make i no to digress). Nigeria as a nation has been so traumatized that we have become hard (I don't meant this in a negative way), we've had to struggle for so many things that it has made us stronger mentally and physically which is why we always excel anywhere we go because it's much more easier over there than here. That's why I know that you Kuwena will make it over there, just as well as you'll have made it here if not better because you survived when it was tougher over here and over there, at least you'll have some better conditions.I think I'll expantiate more on what Stan posted. How do you go about getting a 100 young men to pool together resources to start a business? Will you be talking about a partnership, a limited liability Company, Unlimited liability Company or what? It's simply not feasible, before people come together to do anything, there has to be a clearly spelt out basis for their congregating which is why Partnerships have "Deeds of partnership" and Limited Liability Companies have their MOA and AOA ( for the uninitiated that's Memorandum of Association And Articles of Association) and the legal limit for partnerships' is 20 except for Law chambers. So on what premise will you be having 100 (On a lighter note, Ok, Kuwena, Opoks, Thought, and some of the other gladiators this thread has seen, come together and start an industry ) I'm sure we don't know where that kind of industry will end. You know the good thing about God that created us is that He made us distinct individuals and no two people are the same. That's why we have different aversion to risk taking, though we are at the risk taking stage now, there'll still be those that will take much more bigger risks than others. And what i might consider a risk may just be normal to say someone like Kenosky and vice-versa so what i'm trying to say is that it is not compulsory that two people see the same level of risk in the same projects. But the Universally agreed basis is that the bigger the risk, the higher the returns but it should be calculated risks and not just baseless ones. To some peeps in the US now washing corpses or sweeping floors or being cab drivers, they'll give their right arm to get a job in any bank in Nigeria but yet at the same time some are leaving jobs over here to go try their hands at things over there in the US. So it's all just a matter of each person's beliefs and perceptions. @ Stan I beg to disagree very strongly with you, Nigerians are not poor in mind or creativity neither are we pessimists. I believe very strongly that we are one of the most optimistic people living on earth and most creative too. It's just that we sometimes turn our creativity to negative activities which is part of why we have the reputation we have all over the world now. @ Stan Kenosky no dey stoke you, hin just dey vex say u never come render him daily picture of him for am. So make u perform next time u log on. Na wah o. i tire for myself, when i turn to story teller like this? ![]() @ all goodnight. |
Opoks, your post says a lot but leaves out others, let me expantiate on it the way I see it. I think it's more a matter of stage of life as you rightly pointed out. At the younger age, one is willing to take risks people that are more elderly wont. Y? Because one believes I can still recover even if it goes wrong. So I think most of us are at that stage now, though in varying degrees. For example Kuwena: He's taking a calculated risk leaving a known source of income to chart unknown waters. That's because he's at the age that he can take that risk and know that something will always work out since he's still got the energy and drive at this stage. Likewise Annify when he left his previous job even though there was nothing concrete at that point. Now someone who's older will not even be thinking in such terms because he'll be thinking of all his/her responsibilities and atimes that blocks one from seeing beyond his or her immediate horizon. I can't remember who said this exactly but it goes something like this " To discover new lands, you have to be willing to lose sight of the shore". So whoever you are, if you have that dream, now's the best time to act on it while you've got the drive and 'time' to recover. Kuwena, I don't think I completely agree with your view that salaries are meant to be saved. Invested? YES. Just plain saved?NO. And there is no one that can "arrive" just based on saved salaries. You have to make it work for you and even be willing to take calculated risks if you think there's a chance that you just might more than break even, that's why some people take loans to invest in different projects, sometimes they get burnt but sometimes they win. Sometimes your salary can actually be used on debt servicing in the sense that if you identify a project (it will most likely be risky, because the higher the risk the higher the return) that you want to try out, you might decide to borrow now to invest in such a project (I know someone who borrowed 10m from a bank to invest in Dangote sugars when the IPO came out that time at N18 and he sold it when it was still high around N70, now if you have that kind of opportunity, wont you be willing to try it for the chance that you might make some profit?) rather than see the opportunity pass you by, this to me is a justifiable base on which salaries might be used to service debts but using salaries to service debts incurred on projects that are not adding value or have no potential to is irresponsible. But as I said it's all a risk and the higher the risk the higher the return. I know someone who took a loan to subscribe for the MTN private issue and at the end of the day his money was returned to him, so you see there's always risk in everything. Kuwena, your take on setting up industries might actually be a bit naive. With the situation in Nigeria the way it is right now, how much do you think 2m can actually accomplish? It's much more than the idea, one has to realistically project into the future too. Unless the "idea" does not need any infrastructure to run on, I don't see what that amount can really achieve because you actually specified industries and industries require most of the basic infrastructure which are markedly deficient in this "Great?" country of ours. Do you think all these manufacturing firms actually shutting down are not viable projects? It's a whole lotta complex situation believe me. We keep saying the world is a global village, I think we should actually step back and understand this in a global sense. This means the person who produces his goods in China, make i no even go that far sef, the person who produces his goods in Ghana or Benin Republic spends so much less than what someone in Nigeria will spend. Because by the time you factor in overheads, which is really where the high cost of production in Nigeria comes from, there is just no way you can realistically compete with that person who has all the requisite infrastructure in place. And this is one of the reasons why smuggling strives and will continue to, because there is still so much profit to make even after settling all the settleables. What i think might be more viable in the short run is starting something no matter how small even while one is working (remember not everyone is trade/business inclined in that way, not every one is born to be an enterpreneur some are always going to be the 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 30 years I'm finished, give me my gratuity and pension individual) because as long as one is "gainfully" employed in Nigeria, you'll always have some free funds or have access to funds that you can use to invest in your ideas and if they are good enough ideas it should be able to break even and repay back the money invested in it. Then if you think you can actually make more by devoting your time to it fully, then you can throw in the towel where ever you might be working. It's not all about saving the money or having the idea. You have to be sure the idea will be brought to fruition. One doesn't build a house based on speculations about where the funds will come from, You should be certain that it wouldn't be an abandoned project. Is no one going to answer my question? Can the Nigerian Stock Exchange be classified as a Weak, Semi-strong or Strong form Efficient Market? Annify, Alfa where una dey? Kenosky, nothing do you, the way the exam do you, na so e be every one else, so I know say you go scale through. No shaking. @ Jisi, abi the good news be say u ma don dey follow Kuwena go yankee? ![]() |
Yep it's indiscipline and lack of self respect if you ask me, but it all boils down to having someone who might have more money than sense and now decides to lend out money (continuously). I think one lesson people always learn soon enough is that of lending out only what you can afford to lose. Now in the context Alfa asked the question, it's probably just a small amount. For example the fact that someone asks for a loan does not mean he doesn't have investments, it might actually mean liquidating the investment at that time would not be beneficial because it would be at a loss which is understandable but if it becomes a regular thingy that's where the problem starts. The thing with soft loans is that most times it doesn't get paid back as at when promised and we all know what inflation will have done to the money by then. So give out soft loans at your own peril. Now if it were on a bigger level, I think it would actually be making OPM work for you as Annify said. Take the case of an Organisation(or even an individual) that needs funds to run it's business, It could actually go to the Bank to take a loan or issue debentures(I don't think we do this in Nigeria, na soso shares we just dey issue) at a rate lower than what could be obtained from the bank, now i think that would be a more classical case of making OPM work for you, though it's beneficial to both parties (since the borrower borrows at a lower rate and the lender will get a higher interest than the bank would offer) than the case of giving out soft loans which as has been rightly pointed out is risky and erodes the value of the money when it's coming back since it's an interest-free loan. Peeps which form of the efficient market hypothesis would you say is being practised in the NSE? (Weak, Semi-strong or Strong)?Would love to hear your ideas and why? @ kenosky, good luck in your exams today. I'm sure u go make am sebi na you. ![]() |

Anyway care to intimate/enlighten us on the new forms of investment you are undertaking? Make we follow you?
Anyway nothing do you.
, what if you were born over there and ended up a junkie? was killed in a drive by gang shoot out? and many other negative things that could have happened?

But wait o, hope say no be say u wan take style disappoint your chick wey u don promise say u go carry go vac?
