I don't think it will be ever be enough unless something unexpected and I pray not generally violent happens. It goes beyond corruption and even tribalism. We have been in the hands of a clique of ex-generals and their lackey politician serfs. The system of evil is self sustaining and morphs itself into even young "enlightened" chaps like dimeji bankole. At least in the past there was the faint hope of military intervention from genuinely patriotic ppl now we are at the mercy of half baked and mediocre career politicians. Even if this country splits 200 ways those elements will return home and take over leadership positions and the cycle will continue. Back to your question, I can assure you that a major purge will take place, probably by the members of the clique themselves |
@lagcity - what would you expect massob to do? Take to the streets murdering ordinary northerners, who are also getting slaughtered by boko haram. Where is the strategic sense in that if at all that was an option |
@bluetooth - do you remember the massacre of northerners at idi-araba and some other parts of lagos (I can't remember them now) by opc and alaye boys in 2001? What did it achieve except lots of dead people. We have passed that stage in this country |
This show of strength is more potent at boosting the morale of yorubas that they shall be protected but at the end of the day do you think boko haram care if opc murders northeners in lagos? They've been killing their own people left and right |
I feel for the police in the. The citizenry hate and distrust them, boko haram are using them for target practice. Ordinarily if there were good relations between the ppl and the cops you'd probably see many tip offs to aid the police. Who says you don't reap what you sow |
Nigeria is definitely not anywhere ready for state police. Nigeria's politics is not ready for such things. With the kind of corrupt, super rich politicians you have now, you're just asking for 36 countries in one. Each enclave will become a law unto itself and damn the consequences. I can't imagine a t.a. orji or uduaghan with state police |
@lasinoh - the saving grace ppl like u have is that you are hidden from ppl like me via the internet. Say that sort of thing about God where I dey face to face and I'll put you in the hospital |
@ lasinoh - the demons at work on u need to be purged fast before its too late |
@op - the title almost gave me a heart attack. He hasn't been freed, the case just got transferred to the federal high court |
Like Peter Tosh said - You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time. What's going on in the north happens to be the fruits of seeds the northern elite has been sowing for decades. Its funny how history repeats itself, Gowon is again the "face" of the northern establishment and he's a middle belter. It goes beyond speeches because the snake has hatched and is about to strike the caliphate in the arse. I guess they thought almajiris could be controlled forever. They are starting to recognise that their worst nightmare - the rage of the poor, is getting closer |
Fashola disappointed me with the statement - "politically motivated resistance" to the tollgates. He's sounding like more and more like the average naija politician. Wetin concern residents with politics. |
Lagos should get the extra revenue as long as they stop taxing lagosians and businesses to death |
Executive comedy |
I watched okonjo iweala getting grilled by the senate. She was asked to forward the audit report on the proposed private refineries and could u believe she was saying that before she forwards it, she has to know what is contained in it. So she didn't know what was in it, what has she been doing all this frigging time. |
I just heard that the ban is meant to apply to all two stroke engines in the country. Still unclear but the news is still unfolding |
Has this government carried out the necessary homework. Have they carried out a policy assesment impact, do they even have an estimate of how many okada riders are in this country, not to mention bike dealers. Despite all the security challenges in the country they want more jobless young men on the streets |
I believe this punkass president is either trying to barter with the country. You guys don't want me to have my six year term I slam you with a removal of fuel subsidy or ban okada and starve y'all. I think he's finally lost it |
All I saw was the news bar. I am waiting to read the full press release. My question is can he do that. I'm off to peruse the constitution |
Just saw it too. But does the federal government have the power to do that. This federalism needs to be looked at closely |
@ olumide- how do ANY of the points or posts have any bearing on yoruba people. I think you did not read what the OP posted. If you did then can you tell what it has to do with your yoruba vs igbo idea. Secondly your ppl were not at the receiving end of the war so you don't have any moral basis to tell the OP or anybody pissed at gowon's two faced, hypocritical yarn to as you said "get it out of their system". Please show a little respect |
Quote from naijababe - And Biafra told the truth so help them God abi? It's ridiculous that you consider the evil that the Igbos did to the Midwesterners as propaganda but on the flip side believe that Igbos did not employ use of the same . Show me a picture of a starved solider, better yet show me a picture of Ojukwu without his rotund cheeks during the war and I'll maybe begin to consider you less of an oponu . Mtchew!! @naijababe - to begin with did you even read what I posted. Biafrans never said diddly squat, if you are saying that biafran soldiers massacred people then prove it. Propaganda is what it is. So far all I have seen as evidence of the so called "atrocities" are stories from omoigui.com and gist from here and there. Secondly are you doubting that biafran troops were not starving during the war. That's about the most common piece of info about the war. I'm using my phone and can't attach pics and stuff. |
@bashr8- you can't totally blame jason, propaganda na bastard |
@ jason123- I don't wish to call the writer omoigui a liar but how many ppl today are aware that a panel of enquiry was set up to investigate these reported "atrocities" by biafran troops. Because they could find NO atrocities to report and use as propaganda , the FG kept mute and let rumours about the "terrible igbos" continue. Who told you that propaganda isn't powerful |
@bashr8 - one lie that i find most amusing is that biafran troops entered the midwest and started killing people everywhere. its the cheapest propaganda and unfortunately people easily fall for that silly childish tale by moonlight. |
Quote from Dayokanu How come the Nazi Germans were tried for war crimes commited Pre Geneva convention? How come no one has been tried for war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan? Japans aim was to bla bla bla and the next thing was to Nuke the civilian Population? I wonder how Ibos reason for real @Dayokanu - Why are you twisting your statements? You talked about how soviets levelled berlin then you are talking about germans standing trial for war crimes. these are two very different scenarios. Secondly who told you that americans have not been tried in american courts for war crimes in these places you mentioned. If you dont know tone down the bravado and do some research. Thirdly what the Zap do you mean by bla bla bla. The japs didnt bla bla bla , they annexed most of asia during the second world war and would have fought till millions more on every side would have died, Even if you are biased or misinformed these are highly different pictures you are trying to paint. Adekunle was a disgrace to the uniform and was removed just in time. have you heard anyone speak ill of obasanjo's role during the war? |
@bashr8 - adekunle was a notice-me soldier who tried to cash in on the anti-igbo sentiment. It got him nowhere as we have seen |
@ Dayokanu - those world war2 cases you mentioned were before the geneva convention that gentlemen officers have lived and fought by. But if you want to examine them note that japan's imperialistic aims had seen them overrun china, philipines, pearl harbour among numerous others and I hope you know the japs were robot like suicide troops who would have fought till millions of lives would have been wasted. As for the sacking of berlin, the german troops refused to surrender and had to be mopped up house to house. Since then all has not been fair in war. There were wars going on in vietnam and though there were atrocities which occurred mainly because it was largely a guerilla war, no sane american commander could have come up with that statement. |
@ Dayokanu - adekunle was just a caricature of a wartime general. He had no class. Meanwhile which kind joke be dat say ikemba dress like woman. The man got into a jet and checked out. Abi u think say na night bus. |
@ Dayokanu - if he wrecked biafran troops then that wouldn't be an issue. The bone of contention is the statement that the OP quoted. I think you are avoiding the issue. We all know what war is about and that's win win win. I don't think you ever heard anybody picking issues with Shuwa and his command. Shuwa did 100 times more damage to the biafran army but he was an officer and a gentlemen though many igbos will take me up on it. The difference between him and adekunle is that the black scorpion was an eye service man pure and simple. Do you know who shot the nigerian soldier that killed nzeogwu after his capture - shuwa. Geneva convention aside when you declare in an INTERVIEW! That you don't want red cross etc. it shows that the man was trying to show off for the benefit of whom I may ask |
My brother I believe there would have been a lot of in-house "laundry" because the bulk of biafran leadership would have beeb exterminated by the biafran rank and file for their incompetence and corruption. After some time you can be sure that the titanic will to survive would have been infused into building a nation. Why the stereotypes exist is because our ppl used red eye to re-enter nigeria. |
Adekunle made that statement for two reasons. Firstly he was trying to do eye service for the northern establishment for promotion and favour. As a short man he is prone to overdo. Secondly he was an ignorant barbarian. If you study the statements of even the northern commanders in the war zone you will always see statements that were never overboard ( I stand to be corrected on this point) |
