^^ even if he was a sympathizer i'm pretty sure he wouldnt like to come from a region under the control of an al-shabab type militia. I'm sure that after the kano massacre the northern elite will be shittin their pants at the thought of this boko haram thing getting out of hand and consuming them. Unlike previous attacks by BH this time around the destruction affected even high brow areas like farm center.

Anyway i hope GEJ did his homework on the man before picking him

All in all, he's a hands on, roll up your sleeves type of officer, he's probably the first IG who hasnt got a pot belly.lol

@ Beaf - GEJ annoys the hell out of me. He misapplies his power. does he know he is the C in C of the armed forces and can wipe out these animals, even the ones in the executive, legislature etc if he decides to?
PoliticsRe: Borno Elders Warn Jonathan On Security Pact With Us by nku5: 10:08am On Jan 25, 2012
Dialogue my a.s.s. I honestly despise those demented old pricks. Human life means nothing to them,so far they have access to anuses to poke on a daily basis.

I hope GEJ can go beyond just inviting them to come and provide support. A crack squad of government hitmen should be assembled from the ranks of the army, navy, airforce and SSS, sent to Israel for intensive training and unleashed on to track sponsors and leadership of boko haram. I am pretty sure 99% of the so called borno elders will disappear if such a team is formed.

But seriously how can our poor neighbours be bold enough to allow their land be used as training camps and launch pads for attacks? I think its time our military starts moving its heavy guns and starts pointing them in the direction of chad and niger. Thats the only way those mofos will sit up

STATE OF THE NATION : Will national confab chart way forward?

January 13, 2012

News

ON-GOING events in the nation suggest that, indeed, there is need to chart a way forward. With the strike action called by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and other civil society organisations and growing insecurity in the land especially with the activities of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, some leaders have restated the need to convene a national confab to address the anomalies in the polity.

Though many have proffered different approaches to solve the problems facing the nation, analysts are of the view that the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference, SNC, would assist in restructuring the polity. In the past, calls had been made for such a confab which many, especially those in power see a recipe for chaos and perhaps disintegration of Nigeria.

The National Consensus Group of Progressive Political Leaders (NCG) has declared its plan to convene an emergency National Summit on the state of the nation.

At a crucial parley hosted, recently in Lagos by Tunji Braithwaite leaders of the NCG endorsed the proposed national summit as a strategic means of urgently intervening in the crisis currently rocking the country before it degenerates into a full blown civil war between northern and southern Nigeria.

Unilateral hike

in fuel price

The leaders, who voiced their displeasure at the state of the nation noted that the insurgency of the Boko Haram bombers as well as the unilateral hike in price of fuel by government by over 120 per cent has exacerbated the instability in the country.

It was also aimed at compelling the immediate convocation of Nigeria’s peoples’ Conference to renegotiate Nigeria’s corporate existence and it governance structure”

Braithwaite, Dr Kalu Idika and Prof Utomi all expressed optimism that the emergency National Summit slated for next week in Lagos will help articulate and give direction to the aspirations of the Nigerian peoples in the geo political zones, labour, civil society groups among others.

The parley, the trio explained, was used as an avenue to request the federal government to reverse the price of petrol to the status quo to allow for more consultations and dialogue on the issue and other profound matters such as the endemic corruption in government aided by the lopsided structure foisted on the country by successive rulers.

Aside, the dialogue is expected to x-ray government positions on burning national issues such as deregulation of the economy, the Boko Haram hostilities and stability among others before drawing up proposals and modalities for a peoples’ National Conference, where the country’s crises are expected to be addressed.

Need for dialogue

Perhaps, towing the same path, the Nigeria Summit Group, NSG, a coalition of some prominent Nigerians will on Monday commence a national summit.

Convener of the group, Professor Utomi, said the meeting was imperative to review the present state of the nation.

He was of the view that such summit was a means to urgently stem the perceived civil war “presently being perceived by the outside world.”

While he maintained that the summit would address the present circumstance, which has led to mass protest against government’s policies, Utomi lamented that the country was again gradually returning to the brink. He said that Nigeria could no longer continue in this manner, noting that “our coming together as eminent Nigerians is to see how we can look for a way forward. And one of the issues that would be on our agenda is the issue of subsidy.”

Expressing optimism that the dialogue would go a long way to help articulate and give direction to the aspirations of the Nigerian people, he said the summit was expected to x-ray the government positions on burning national issues such as deregulation of the economy, insecurity in the country and national stability among others.

According to Utomi, the organisers of the summit have invited “eminent leaders in our country from across the federation, professional and generational lines, to dialogue about the situation in the country – whether you talk about pricing of petroleum products, or security problems in the country, or about the ground norm, the Constitution of our country – the moment is now.

“We owe it to our country to do something because people are afraid that a certain prediction that the country will become a failed state by the year 2015 will be fulfilled. We have told ourselves that we cannot stand by and watch our nation degenerate”, he stated.

He said though consultations had been made, it was imperative for Nigerians to come to a round table to dialogue. “We have, after very widespread consultation, decided that this moment – a very trying moment for our country – on account of what has been happening in the last couple of days, it is time to dialogue on how to get Nigeria working again.”

He disclosed that the removal of fuel subsidy and the activities of the Boko Haram sect were some of the issues to be addressed. As eminent Nigerians converge on Sheraton Hotel, in Lagos on Monday and Tuesday next week, it is expected that urgent measures would be taken to address the multifarious problems besieging the nation. Whether these lofty expectations would be realised is a question of time.

Commenting on the summit, General-Secretary of NSG, Mr Tony Uranta, President of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima; Civil Rights Activists, Amara Nwosu and Dr Bala Zaka said it was imperative for Nigerians to chat a way forward in order to prevent disintegration of the country.

Besides, Mr Uranta explained that among the critical issues on the agenda would be the provision of basic commodity for the people of Nigeria, security and most importantly the constitution. He added that despite the crisis currently facing the nation, there was so much for Nigeria and Nigerians to live for.

“For a very long time”, he said, “Nigerians lost their voice. What is happening across the nation shows that the Nigerian people have discovered their voice. Such a dialogue at this point unlike in the past has greater possibility of bearing fruit.”

tin bring my younger brothers into this talk? Ol boy take it easy o.

You are calling an over policed community "a lame excuse". You are also saying that I'm giving you "excuses" of NLC members selling out or being chased into hiding. My guy if you want to make a blanket statement about my ppl just do it and stop p.u.s.sy footing around. Answer this question - has any NLC leader been arrested anywhere else in the country since this protest started.that's the easiest way to attack a struggle. All the places u called where ppl died (by the way nobody died in abuja, I'm on ground here) , I noticed u ignored the two ppl that died at upper iweka, onitsha on monday are they not nigerians or human beings?

If na to stand up my ppl dey stand up, I am standing my guy. Let me ask you , have you played your OWN role?

PoliticsRe: Heading Towards Arab Spring?: Senators Attacked! by nku5: 11:58am On Jan 12, 2012
@ kingoflag - First of all its not a matter of anyone being suspicious of the rest of naija it is a matter of ppl who still live in a militarised environment.

The Enugu case is still hot on everybody's radar, abi u never hear. The state's NLC boss has been arrested and charged, the other executives are underground and on the run. It is not about people not seizing the moment but about systematic and brutal repression.

You get mouth to boast because police dey escort protesters for lagos and abuja abi. In the east they would have smelt ak47 for their trouble. You are quick to lecture but did you even hear about what happened at Upper Iweka, Onitsha on monday morning? A peaceful march was brutally put down by police from near the bridge head before it could gather steam. I know a family that lost a son that morning, of course it wasn't news na!.

Despite all the repression abia NLC members are fighting to protest even to the point of their turn coat leader being chased into hiding.

If you have been enjoying freedom in your region don't take it for granted. You are asking what "crackdown ppl are scared of"? Do you know how many heavily armed and fortified checkpoints there are per mile in the east? Those playing politics of divide and rule dey where dem dey and whether u and some NL igbos play e-war is inconsequential to anybody in the real world. Keep your ears to the ground and see what will happen, if possible go out there and play your role, its easy to judge others when you're not them

PoliticsRe: Abia Nlc Chairman Escapes Lynching by nku5: 10:24am On Jan 12, 2012
@oyb -just dey thank your God say dem never turn your region to "red zone" like they turned the se. In onitsha there is a checkpoint every few metres and the slightest squeak of noise in the name of protest always ends in a bloodbath. Secondly our leadership has always been d worst. Enugu state governor orders everybody to work and suddenly the NLC leader in enugu state is whisked away gestapo style. I thank God that people are starting to dare the powers that be. This morning I got feedback on BB that owerri was waking up with their own marches. We never get freedom like una for south west but na small small. Just watch and see
PoliticsRe: Abia Nlc Chairman Escapes Lynching by nku5: 10:05am On Jan 12, 2012
@ oyb - bigotry no be food o! Is it only abia state that has "re-elected" nonsense governors? After all obj's crap was he not "re-elected" to lead us to where we are today. I'm not going to get into "my region vs your region" with u . There are too many things to deal with, if u haven't noticed there is a mini-revolution going on. If you like keep praying for eastern endeavours like shoprite to fail, your curses will never amount to anything but rather you should be careful what u wish upon other ppl. The south east is gradually finding its bearing in this protest just watch and see

@ oyb - your post is very cryptic but are u saying that abians shud "overthrow their governor"? Abeg clarify cos it sounds very comical from here, I don't want to jump to conclusions

You ppl don't know how repressed the se has been.

The Cabal Starts To Sing?

I got this BB message minutes ago-

Very Important-Please broadcast - Petroleum Marketers are fighting back by exposing some of the subsidy deals.

They say Nigeria must know that Haruna Momoh the MD of PPMC and Deziani Allison Madueke Minister for Petroleum has been demanding and pocketing N50 per litre of Kero and petrol produced by local Refineries since Jan 2011 till date. The reason they gave to marketers is that it was marketers contribution to Jonathan's election, but it has continued even after the elections.

That the govt should probe Nezor SA and Tridax SA  two companies owned by the Peroleum Minister run by her junior brother. This two companies in the last 16 month of her tenure has from nowhere become one of the few companies lifting crude oil and one of the largest beneficiary of the subsidy.

The marketers want Nigeria to probe the new list of briefcase companies now lifting crude oil because they paid minimum of $1 million to Momoh and Deziani.

I think we hv started seeing the real faces of the cabals!
