PoliticsRe: Between Gani Adams And Nnamdi Kanu by nku5(op): 10:01am On Jan 14, 2018
jollymizzle:
there was always something fundamentally wrong with the IPOB ideology.the igbo culture doesn't value respect as much as the yorubas, didn't encourage humility like the hausas and this was a big problem. diplomacy is the most valuable tool recognized in negotiations today. diplomacy doesn't say you shouldn't hate,or kill, it says you have to be reasonable, capable of restraint, and flexible, able and willing to appeal to the other sides sensibilities . diplomacy is virtually non existent in igbo culture and that adversely affected the fight. many things kanu and ipob did were just downright distasteful, unnecessary and in bad faith.like kanu, the igbo youths were drawn to braggadocio, they were tact less as you would have noticed, they never listened. listened in the sense that they were so arrogant they believed they were never wrong. they loved kanu for his insults to the yorubas and hausas, they loved him not because of what they wanted to accomplish but because he could dehumanize us in every way they dreamed. they lost focus.their fight shouldn't have been to trample us but to better their lots, either in nigeria or in biafra. what happened when the python came? , they scattered. self-doubt may be generally bad but if you aren't flexible, you end up becoming a tyrant. Kanu and ipob never listened to suggestions, they did things their way and believed no one e could question them. kanu as a leader should have not been so arrogant to dismiss advice from elders. he should have known that other people's opinions matter too. he kept insulting and annoying the rest of the county. no one was able to slow him down even the elders from his region weren't spared. Gani Adam's always submitted to the elders, that's why the Yoruba nation rallied to him when obasanjo imprisoned him. kanu believed Althouse who didn't completely agree with him were against him and in the end, almost everyone who mattered stood against him. igbos need a leader who listens, not some power drunk scum. the anambra election boycott order was the last straw, I'm sure many elders reached out to him to reconsider but he refused.
1. There is a clear difference here. Yoruba elders declared disenchantment with Nigeria when IBB annulled MKO Abiola's victory. Dr. Fasehun formed OPC and Gani joined. Later Gani fell out with Fasehun (who he called a sellout). Gani took his elders struggle to a new violent level. Many Igbo elders on the other hand had nothing for the youths to follow except for their stomachs. That's why a young man had to do something bold.

2. It is time to get over navel-gazing about "insults". Nnamdi Kanu brought more pressure to the national question than any other person or group since the civil war. Was it worth abandoning the most pressing issue because one man offended you?

One preached hate , the other preach against injustice, exclusion.
One had warriors , the other had keyboard warriors.
One limited his angst against the Nigerian state to his ethnic nation , the other was pompously trying to encroach on nations that not his .
One deferred to his elders , traditional rulers and intellectuals, the other was giving his elders sliding tackle on radio .
One knew when it was time to slow down , the other put his leg on the gas even though he had already lost control of his revolution.
If Kanu had been a violent agitator he wouldn't have been silenced.

Everybody including non-Igbos know how flaky and disloyal many igbo elders are to the cause. Except for a few like Ikenga Nnewi, Dr. Ikedife. Kanu never insulted him. Those disloyal so called elders sold the entire Igbo race out they didn't sell Kanu out. Kanu in the larger scheme of things is not an issue. He was just one man with plenty of liver

One major difference; OPC did not target specific ethnic groups. They confronted the authorities and anyone who is against the interest of the Yoruba race.
IPOB and Kanu preached hate and urged his followers to attack Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani.Nnamdi Kanu failed even before he started.
Gani Adams OPC hunted and murdered Hausas, Igbos, Ijaws and others in Lagos.IPOB has not killed anybody. Do not come and lie on this thread.

Gani Adams loved Yorubas and fought for Yoruba interests.. when Igbos were busy sabotaging our efforts to get a restructured Nigeria, the likes of Gani never backed down.

Kanu on the other hand was a fool.. threatening to burn down Nigeria, insulting other tribes and calling them names.
I'm so glad his own people sold him out, proscribed and accepted the terrorist tag on him. #karma
This Is a lie. Igbos never fought against restructuring. Is it not against nairaland rules for posters to post false information?? Prove it before I report you to the mods.

NNAMDI KANU AND GANI ADAMS: A LESSON FOR THE
IGBO ELITES AND THE POLITICALLY CORRECT:

Today across Yoruba land, there is celebration among the old, young, male and female. The celebration is not because the tragedy that befell Nigeria as President has been dethroned. The celebration is because Otunba Gani
Adams’ is being installed as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo
of Yoruba land. In case you don't know Gani Adams, He
is the leader of the Odua Peoples Congress. A group that picked up arms against the marauders. He demanded for Oduduwa state! Nnamdi Kanu and Gani Adams have some things in common.. They both love their people. They both fought for the freedom of their people. They were ready to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of their people. The difference is that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB did not pick up arms like Gani Adams and his OPC. While the Yoruba's rallied round Gani Adams, the Igbo elites and the politically correct betrayed him. While the Yoruba's defended their own, the Igbo elites and the politically correct in partnership with their masters in the north fought against Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB. Today as all roads lead to the installation of Gani Adams’ as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land ( The defender of Yoruba land), Nnamdi Kanu is nowhere to be found and Igbo land is without a defender and true leader. Today, both those who never liked Gani's style are at the venue for the installation. The irony is, even the Yoruba's who criticized Nnamdi Kanu's courage are today celebrating the installation of Gani Adams as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land. The lessons in this case is that you shouldn't betray your own no matter what.... Another lesson is, that we need strong and courageous people to
confront the marauders masquerading as owners of
Nigeria. The Igbo's lost a great opportunity in the person
of Nnamdi Kanu. As Gani defends the Yorubas against
the marauders, who will defend the Igbo's? Lazarus

I just smile when some Ibo spineless oafs throw tantrums at Yoruba people calling us Hausa slaves. Such e-rats are either lacking the sense of history or they suffer selective amnesia because from time immemorial, Hausas and Igbos have enjoyed good political camaraderie and rapproachment, Tafawa Balewa did not think of anyone else when he wanted to form his government, he picked Azikiwe, Shagari shopped for his V.P in Ibo land. The Ibos voted Tofa, a Northerner and as well, Babangida's candidate against Abiola in 1993, Even when Abiola's ambition was to be scuttled, Arthur Nzeribe, an Ibo man came handy. Now that the going is no longer good between them and Hausas, they tag anyone that associates with their perceived enemy a slave. Yorubas will never succumb to their blackmail and name callings!

"We were meeting almost clandestinely at Gen. Adebayo’s place. But something happened along the line that we had to move the meeting from Gen. Adebayo’s house and that is another story entirely. We shifted base a few times and ended up at Ndubuisi’s (Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu rtd) house in Victoria Island. Ndubuisi has my tremendous respect because despite the persecution he went through, he didn’t give up. We never felt at any time that we were not welcome whenever we got there to hold our meetings, clandestine as they were. He would prepare food and everybody would feel happy, forgetful of the fact that we were being hounded." - Dr Fredrick Fasehun (OPC founder and NADECO member)

oh I can't prove igbos were happy to see the happenings of 1993, but you can make false claims on how yoruba military leaders betrayed mko.

You are joker grin

back to the discussion

No

Your brothers alone are one's trying hard to label Yorubas as cowards and backstabbers . This thread has proven that your people(igbos) were also guilty of the same thing in the past, nothing more. Hence, your reactions

I think the 2 million match in support of the abacha regime is a fair way of measuring the public opinion of the igbo public during the abacha regime

Yes, thank you for helping me to prove my point. Abacha arrested top Yoruba generals and accused them of plotting to detrone him and he sentenced then to death, which they were only lucky to escape

How is that not victimization.? which igbo leader faced the same fate

if I can recall, you accuse this Gmb regime of malice against the igbos because efcc arrested chief innocent chukwuka for alleged financial crimes and called for the boycott of gtbank.

Like I said before, the only people who stood with igbos during the military invasion last year were Yorubas. Even your south south brothers turned a blind eye.

Now, you read my post carefully and digest its contents.

Hypocrisy is a terrible disease
1. Now it's too clear you are clutching at straws. It is TOO easy to Google and learn the role that Yoruba leaders played while Abiola was in detention. If you don't know how to Google you can ask me and I will help you with the links. If you don't know that Diya and other generals of yoruba extraction serves under Abacha happily and couldn't find their voice then you are either a little kid or just ignorant. Allison Madueke, an Igbo man was the only one who spoke.

2.If you have any problem with the Igbos on NL who call you guys betrayers please go look for them and quarrel with them till you feel better...

3. You would be a terrible liar to try and claim that that the 2 million man march was made up of Igbos grin grin grin this is too silly to even discuss..unless you want to say that yorubas didn't want MKO to be president because Abimbola Davies led ABN to challenge the election in courthuh

4. Generals Diya and co betrayed their brother and Abacha later turned on them. Nobody likes a sellout, even those you sell out to...You tried to link their woes to Abiola's mandate and I have buried that attempt at revisionism grin try harder

5. Your last point about innoson is worthless because there is no context to connect to June 12 unless you are just looking for straws to grasp at.

Bye!

Hey stop this

Yorubas suffer the most for 1993 election loss

A lot of yoruba generals were falsely arrested and jailed during the abacha regime.

What did igbos do during abacha regime? Wasn't majority of your tribe happy.

If you talk about solidarity of some igbo leaders in the face of adversity, we also have Yoruba's like ffk and fayose who are standing with namdi kanu even when igbo governors and most igbo politicians were afraid to do so. Yet, your brothers calls Yoruba names.

OR didn't you read somewhere last year that ipob blamed your governors for the invasion of military men on your soil last year. I am sure you have also forgotten that yoruba men including a very prominent monarch were the one's with enough guts to speak against the military invasion, while your leaders were hiding. So are your leaders cowards?
Considering that the yoruba leaders were dealing with a brutal military dictator in those days and your leaders had the luxury of a democratic government.

in gbm regime so far, some of people he has arrested are Yorubas.

Even the margin of victory tofa had in igbo states in 1993 was greater than the margin of victory Gmb had in Yoruba states in 2015. Still, your brothers always keep the tag of betrayals for Yoruba .

Come off it already, hypocrisy is a terrible disease
You alone have proved that this hypocritical, crappy thread is all about looking for sneaky ways to tarnish Igbo image ahead of the 2019 elections and it has already failed woefully. You CANNOT PROVE IGBOS WERE HAPPY AT JUNE 12 ANNULMENT.

Read the post you quoted and read it slowly...

Abacha dealt with the yorubas surrounding him AFTER they had betrayed their brother MKO. Abacha did not jail Diya, Olanrewaju and co for supporting June 12. The only member of the Provisional Ruling Council that stood up to Abacha was Allison Madueke!

Abacha jailed Diya and the others for an alleged coup attempt.....let that sink in before you start to believe your own propaganda

"Igbos were among those that suffered as a result of the fallouts of the senseless and irresponsible cancellation of an election reputed to be the freest and fairest election ever to be held in Nigeria. Many Nigerians from all the ethnic groups lost one way or the other both personally and collectively. Very many Nigerians of the Igbo extraction were made the scapegoats of June 12 in several ways as a result of the fact that they kept faith with June 12. For instance, Professor Humphrey Nwosu, the Chairman of the National Election Commission (NEC) was among the earliest martyrs of June 12 because of his insistence on releasing the remaining results despite reported threats from "above". He was reportedly tortured and humiliated.
It is on record that Chief Ralph Obioha and Bobo Nwosisi were men that flanked Chief M.K.O. Abiola the day he declared himself president. Both honorable Nigerians suffered lots of personal loss because of their loyalty and because they were steadfast with Abiola. Chief Obioha had his bank liquidated by the supreme dictator, Abacha. The other, Bobo Nwosisi was forced into exile in London and later died in exile. A high ranking Ibo military officer, Allison Madueke, lost his post because he vehemently opposed Abacha on the issue of June 12. Voter turnout was higher in the south than in the north. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Moshood Abiola received over 8 million votes, and won in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The National Republican Convention (NRC) candidate Alhaji Bashir Tofa received over 6 million votes and won in 10 states only. Over 14 million people voted. Abiola won in Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, and Yobe states, and the Federal Capital Territory. Tofa won in Abia, Adamawa, Bauchi, Enugu, Imo, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Rivers and Sokoto States.

Abiola’s victory was comprehensive as he won almost 60% of the total votes cast. Only in two states (Kebbi and Sokoto) did Abiola fail to obtain at least one-third of the votes. Abiola even defeated Tofa in Tofa’s home state of Kano.
