FastShipping: I need one too within the next 10 days. Preferably, non motorized sliding gate. It has to be simple and aesthetic.
Like these.... Saving the first picture for future use. Never like a gate that you cannot see what is going on outside when you are inside. I read somewhere that it is not advisable to have your front fence to be all walls and gate enclosed. My front fence will be a combination of blocks and metal and then a gate like the first picture. |

NL1960: @spyder880, iam back again. Just came back from the village where i was able to measure the areas that i want to do concrete flooring and interlocking. This is attached. I have broken the areas into sections.
Concrete flooring sections =================== Section A - 35ft x 16ft Section B - 74ft x 63ft Section C - 52ft x 18ft
Interlocking sections =================== Section D - 94ft x 16ft Section E - 44ft x 38ft
Please is it possible you help me with an estimate of these various sections. Other contributors and insights are welcomed. @spyder880, now that elections and election fever are over, is it possible you help me look at this request. |

NL1960: @spyder880, how is Interlocking work priced?. I have reached that stage in my project. NL1960: Oga spyder880, this question is still awaiting your response as i need to take a decision on whether to do concrete flooring or do interlocking. spyder880: Interlock tiles are charged by square metres as well as by whole calculations for the whole compound. A contract that specifies the work in square meters will have cost for tiles and cost for laying (usually N300) for each square meter. A lot depends on the design, thickness and pattern of the work you want to determine the charge of each meter. For work of a whole compound, you have to specify where and how you want your kerbs and flower positions. You could buy the interlock tiles and call in a layer to work or ask them to produce and lay the tiles. @spyder880, iam back again. REVAMPINTERIOR: @ NL1960 i think you also need to consider heat, glass generates a lot of heat. Except if your house has air condition on most times, if not its not advisable.
I suggest that you use a plaster board and the part that touches the floor should be elevated a bit to avoid being wet (water spoils it quickly) then a cute water proof wall paper will be an advisable finishing.
Thank you Thanks for you response. Was able to communicate with another Nairalander by name Dominion Decor through calls and emails. He gave me some useful and good insights which i have passed on the person that will do the job. It is a small area that iam blocking. |

DRealGeesam: 5kva will cost about N1.2m N1.2m for 5kva and that means 2.5kva might come to about N600k. That is where the problem is. How many people have between N600k to N1.2m to commit at once to solar?. Solar is cheaper in the long run but remember that in the long run, we are all dead according to the Economists. If somebody for example wants to go to solar, for how many years will he need to save up the amount and what happens before then?. These are the issues why solar is not popular. The startup cost is much and not many people have that amount. A barber that operates a barbing salon cannot afford that initial cost but he can easily afford a 1.2kva generator and fuels it everyday from the proceeds of his business and when there are no customers, he does not use the generator which means the fuel is conserved. |

spyder880: Interlocking stones are not meant to be fixed on the ground to stick, they are meant to be dropped into position to sit on the bare sand. Since sharp sand is not supposed to sink into the ground after good ground treatment, it is solid enough to bear weight, even to e driven on. The cellophane on the other hand is made to seal off contact with organic matters beneath the interlock stones and prevent the possibility of growth of grass. It also helps to keep ground water dew from finding their way to the surface. Its a new inclusion to interlocking works. Wa o. Very insightful. I have learn a new thing today. Thanks for this insightful perspective. Btw, when you say cellophane, is it the one street people like me call nylon?. |

Empiree: bro, you may be right but time changes. Things are unpredictable. You don't want to turn 70 and realise Nigeria is your home to retire. And that time, you may not have $$ to build. That's just too bad. I intentionally made that post because of this 'I don't intend to be living at the house I'm building because U.S is now where I intend to live with my family for the rest of my life.' that you said especially the 'rest of my life' aspect. Iam glad that you have now said that things are unpredictable. The 'good' US and 'bad' Nigeria today can become the 'bad' US and 'good' Nigeria tomorrow. US was once very bad. |

FastShipping: I am guessing you have plan to live there permanently.
Well, solar energy is a good idea too but in my own case I don't think I can afford to do such thing. I don't intend to be living at the house I'm building because U.S is now where I intend to live with my family for the rest of my life. I don't think solar energy makes sense in a house I only intend to spend a month in a year with my family during Christmas. Don't you think it is a waste of money to build a house in Nigeria that you only spend a month in a year especially if it is being built in the city and you are not considering retiring to it in the future even though i know that you can sell it later?. You can easily rent a serviced apartment for that period that you are around. |

Pic-1 So did you then create a space for Dinning area in another area? But I like the VIP section though.. reserve a seat for me.
You have surely made use of the good Paints from Gbadexy, I am glad about that.. Have you seen Gbadexy thread about the acrylic floor paint? You should, because you will ready for the flooring soon.
You will soon get a mail from me about those nice furniture... Thank you.
New thread for Floor paints: https://www.nairaland.com/2069175/unique-floor-design-patterns-durable
Hajji M. Thanks Hajji and i say a big amen to your prayer. I have seen Gbadexy's link on floor paints. This project is in the village and as such, do not know how they will be able to maintain it. Village people are very rough. I did not create a separate dining area. From studies and from what i have been seeing when i visit people, i have come to realise that people do not really use the dining section for eating. They just put a dining table there for decoration. That was why i discarded it. Moreover, there is still the family living room upstairs that i can easily carve a dining area from as it is fairly big. While i was at home, myself and the family were spending most of our time in the family living room upstairs(eating, gisting and relaxing). Downstairs was just for receiving visitors. |
