TheSuperNerd:My brother forget CAF, they won't do any thing especially when it is to Super Eagles Advantage. If CAF Where a serious minded entity, it would have suspended or disciplined the Egyptian Referee that officiated one of our group matches during the 2013 AFCON. GUESS WHAT, HE WAS STILL IN THE COMPETITION. What about Elneny's reaction to the Referee yesterday, when the referee ended the game. Am very sure, Elneny can't try thay shiiiiiiit in England. The NFF Discipinary Committe will not look into these issues raised, all they know is how to owe national team Coaches' allowances, badmouth Coaches that refuse to dance to their tune and look for loopholes to mishandle tax payers money. Am yet to absolve myself of yesterday's shock. Though Salah's goal was an offside though. cc: Icon4s **Modified** |
AFCON holders Côte d’Ivoire set to move up a gear https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2016/03/Max_Gradel_CIV_v_Sierra_Leo_580x473.jpg Cote d'Ivoire winger Max Gradel Côte d’Ivoire will welcome Sudan in Abidjan on Friday in Group I of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The defending champions got their qualifying campaign off to a disappointing start with a goalless draw against Sierra Leone in Port Harcourt last September, and will be targeting all six points from their double header with the Nile Crocodiles. “With regards to the qualification, it is clear that the double header against Sudan is crucial for the Elephants,” national coach Michel Dussuyer said. “We want to keep our destiny in our own hands during this qualifying campaign, and that means achieving good results against Sudan. “So ideally, we would like to win both matches.” The former Guinea manager will again have to cope in the absence of skipper Yaya Touré, who is battling with a heel problem, as well as Sunderland centre-back Lamine Koné, Malaga left-back Arthur Boka and SM Caen midfielder Ismaël Diomandé, all injured. However, long-term absentees Wilfried Kanon and Max Gradel are making a welcome return to the squad, alongside a core of experienced players like Serge Aurier, Geoffroy Serey Die, Gervinho, Wilfried Bony and Salomon Kalou. Meanwhile, AS Tanda keeper Ali Badra Sangaré and AFAD midfielder Yao Serge N’Guessan are the only representatives from the domestic league. Top of Group I on three points, after enjoying a narrow 1-0 home victory over Sierra Leone, Sudan could be tempted to settle for a draw in Abidjan before hosting the Elephants in Omdurman four days later. But the East African side, who have lost their last four meetings with the Ivoirians, have not defeated the Elephants since October 1979. The game will kick off at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny at 18h30 CAT on Friday. http://africanfootball.com/news/621319/AFCON-holders-Cte-dIvoire-set-to-move-up-a-gear |
Eagles get outstanding bonuses today https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2016/03/Samm_17_November_1.jpg Eagles striker Ighalo (left) vs Swaziland in 2018 World Cup qualifier Super Eagles are to be paid today the win bonus for a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland. The players are to receive a $5,000 bonus-a-man for the 2-0 home win over Swaziland in November. The payment was delayed after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) first ordered the players to open foreign currency accounts which they will transfer the bonus to. A majority of the players has kicked against this arrangement. Top NFF officials have already arrived Kaduna to ensure the payments are effected. It is hoped that this payment will fire up the players ahead of Friday’s must-win AFCON qualifier against Egypt. Eagles spokesman Toyin Ibitoye said: “We have no option but to win. “The game is very, very crucial and a win will boost our confidence for the second match in Egypt.” http://africanfootball.com/news/621315/Eagles-get-outstanding-bonuses-today |

The Egyptians are now lodged at the Asaa Pyramid Hotel, 13 Lafia Road off Independence Way in Kaduna. Arsenal starlet Iwobi in full Eagles training after food poisoning https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/03/Samm_24_February_2_580x473.jpg Alex Iwobi Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has put behind him an episode of food poisoning that forced him to skip training on Tuesday after he returned to train fully with the squad Wednesday in Kaduna. Iwobi, who described his experience as “maddest food poisoning”, could not train with the Eagles in Abuja Tuesday morning, but he returned to train on his own in Kaduna later on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he showed he has fully recovered from the unfortunate incident as he was one of 23 players who trained inside the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. They played a two-a-side game with Emmanuel Amuneke punctuating the session to dish out corrections. Iwobi, 19, has played twice for Nigeria in friendlies last year, but he has yet to play an official match since he switched his international allegiance from England. http://africanfootball.com/news/621195/Arsenal-starlet-Iwobi-in-full-Eagles-training-after-food-poisoning |
Nigeria must beat Egypt on Good Friday to stay alive https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/03/taiwo_vs_egypt.jpg Nigeria vs Egypt at the 2010 AFCON in Angola. Egypt won 3-1 by Samm Audu Nigeria will be hard pressed to beat Egypt on Good Friday so as to get their AFCON 2017 qualifying campaign back on track. Seven-time African champions Egypt are top of Group G with six points from two matches, Nigeria are two points behind on four points with only the overall group winners guaranteed automatic passage to Gabon 2017. Tanzania have a point, while Chad are bottom of the standings without any points. The standings will be much clearer after Nigeria and Egypt play again in Alexandria on Tuesday. As always Nigeria’s build-up for these crucial matches have been chaotic after coach Sunday Oliseh quit his post a month ago, citing lack of support from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and several violations of his contract. Olympic team coach Samson Siasia was appointed as caretaker coach to be assisted by Salisu Yusuf and the country’s U20 coach Emmanuel Amuneke. A bogus call-up list of 42 players has now been cut down to 23 players following injuries to Europe-based defenders Kenneth Omeruo and Leon Balogun as well as a major clear-out of the players who feature in the domestic league. Siasia is now most likely to line up most of the players he has previously worked with like Chelsea star Mikel Obi as well as players from the Olympic team like Oghenekaro Etebo, Stanley Amuzie and Azubuike Okechukwu. He has admitted his biggest concern would be how the players from overseas cope with the heat in the northern city of Kaduna, where this match will be played. “I don’t know why Nigerians are so afraid of Egypt. They should be worried about us,” Siasia wondered at a recent briefing. “The players are very positive and for me, it is really how can we play well in the heat?” Kick-off time has now been moved to 5pm local time to ensure the home team do not struggle in the baking heat. Nigeria players remain bullish about their chances of victory. “We will give all we have on Friday, we will give it a big push,” vowed Odion Ighalo, who has snapped out of a month-long goals drought with his English Premier League side Watford just in time for these matches. Nigeria skipper Ahmed Musa admitted it will be a difficult game, which they have to win. “It’s a very important match, which we have to win, but we also know it won’t be easy,” said the CSKA Moscow forward. Egypt are equally under pressure to qualify for Gabon after their last appearance in Angola 2010. Argentine coach Hector Cuper, whose job is on the line, has named as many as nine players from league and cup winners Zamalek with bitter rivals Ahly also providing a good number of the players for these matches. The Pharaohs will play as a team while also relying on the individual brilliance of their overseas-based pros led by AS Roma forward Mohamed Salah and Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny. Egypt striker Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ said he expects Egypt to play as a unit. “The team don’t rely on foreign-based players as Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny, Mahmoud Trezeguet, Amr Warda and myself; the team consist of 11 players,” Koka told Sada El-Balad Channel. “Players who play for the national team make every effort to fully represent their country.” ‘Koka’ has scored 13 goals this season for Portuguese club Sporting Braga since his transfer from Rio Ave. Nigeria and Egypt have met 16 times with Nigeria winning seven times, Egypt with five victories, while there have been four draws between them. Their first meeting was a friendly on January 1, 1960, which Nigeria won 2-1. The Egyptians have won their last two meetings – 3-1 on January 12, 2010, in an AFCON 2010 clash, and 3-2 in a friendly on April 12, 2012. http://africanfootball.com/news/621176/Nigeria-must-beat-Egypt-on-Good-Friday-to-stay-alive |
EXCLUSIVE: IWOBI SPEAKS OUT ABOUT INJURY REPORT https://i0.wp.com/owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/image-146.jpg?resize=300%2C224 Arsenal teen sensation Alex Iwobi has reacted to rumours making rounds about reports that he is suffering from a knock picked up from Arsenal’s last Premier League game against Everton. They have been varying reports about the reason behind his absence from the Eagles first two training sessions ahead of the game against Egypt with some claiming he is nursing a knock while others are of the opinion he is having stomach upset. In an exclusive unofficial chat with our reporter at the team hotel when he came to get water owngoalnigeria.com correspondent asked him if it’s true he is carrying a knock or suffering from stomach upset. “Am not carrying any knock am fine, I missed training yesterday because of something I ate that caused me stomach pain but am fine now” the soft spoken lad told owngoalnigeria.com. He sat out yesterday’s training of the team but did light works with the team’s physiotherapist after interim coach Samson Siasia stopped him from joining the rest of the team in full training. http://owngoalnigeria.com/2016/03/23/exclusive-iwobi-speaks-out-about-injury-report/ |
IHEANACHO DISPLAYS FINISHING PROWESS IN SUPER EAGLES TRAINING https://i1.wp.com/owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/image-147.jpg?resize=300%2C224 Manchester City 19 year old Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho showed a lot of the reasons during training with the Super Eagles why he is so highly rated when it comes to goal scoring. The Korea 2013 U-17 golden ball winner is at the moment scoring with most of his shot at goal during practices as his shootings are usually precise with pace and power. During yesterday’s drill he scored against all the three goalkeppers in camp with the team and even when one of his effort was saved by Carl Ikeme it brought out the best in the Wolverhampton Wanderers shot stopper. Iheanacho during the practice game yesterday played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium drew his team level with a goal that once again show why he is such a top level teen. Playing in a two man attack alongside Odion Ighalo he raced onto a through ball from Mikel Obi took a step past Godfrey Obaboana and just when it appears he has lost the chance blasted a left footed shot that flew past Ikeme leaving him with no chance. It’s yet to be seen if his good form will earn him a spot in the starting line up or probably a substitute appearance in the game against Egypt on the 25th and 29th in Kaduna and Akexandria respectively. http://owngoalnigeria.com/2016/03/23/iheanacho-displays-finishing-prowess-in-super-eagles-training/ |

Oduamadi is a big lover of the shirt number 20 and he has worn it for most of his club and national team career but the number is not vacant as Vincent Onovo another Nigerian at the team has taken the number. Onovo is a 20 year old Nigerian who recently moved to the Finnish side from another team in Finland Inter Turku where he spent the last season and has so far played in three cup games for the team in Oduamadi’s favourite jersey number. The AC Milan loanee will start training with his new teammates today where he will train alongside Onovo and the other Nigerian at the team Taiye Taiwo. Alex Iwobi’s ‘soft stomach’ is cause for pepper soup jokes in Nigeria camp Alex Iwobi By Lolade Adewuyi in Kaduna The Arsenal youngster has overcome his food poisoning experience but it might have endeared him to many of the other players in camp Nigerian humour is a good way to pass through tough times, as Alex Iwobi must have learnt in the past couple of days. After the Arsenal forward came down with food poisoning and missed Tuesday morning’s training with the Super Eagles in Abuja, team mates rallied round him with encouraging words, according to team media officer Toyin Ibitoye. However, the older players did not fail to point out that he was the architect of his own problems by choosing to consume pepper soup in camp knowing he has a ‘soft stomach’. Iwobi was born in Nigeria but was raised in England where there is less emphasis on consumption of chili pepper in meals, unlike in Nigeria where chili is a staple in several dishes. Yet other reports claim that Iwobi’s ailment was caused by the consumption of salad at the team’s hotel. Midfielder Ogenyi Onazi seems to have taken the youngster under his wings while Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel threw a bottle of water in a playful banter at the Arsenal man during a break in training on Tuesday evening. After overcoming the crisis and having a short physical examination by the team’s physio in Kaduna, Iwobi later confirmed via Twitter that the worst was over. “Had the maddest food poisoning but I am good now and feeling ready for the Egyptian match,” he wrote. The young man must have learnt his lessons, never underestimate the power of pepper soup or Nigerian salad. He would hope to make it all count against Egypt on Friday. http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/17102/extra-time/2016/03/23/21615402/alex-iwobis-soft-stomach-is-cause-for-pepper-soup-jokes-in?ICID=HP_HN_2 |
VIDEO: Fanendo Adi hopes for opportunity to nail Egypt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smMwkF9z_SQ By Lolade Adewuyi in Kaduna The Portland Timbers striker expects the Super Eagles to defeat the Pharaohs in Friday’s Afcon qualifier in Kaduna as well as longing for his debut Nigeria striker Fanendo Adi hopes the Super Eagles can earn all three points on offer when they welcome Egypt to the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna for Friday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The 25-year-old got his maiden invitation to the Eagles on the back of his impressive performance at Portland Timbers where he scored 18 goals in 2015 and also won the MLS Cup. He’s scored thrice in the 2016 season and hopes to bring his 6’4in frame to contribute to the task at hand. “It’s a good experience,” Adi told Goal about his time in the Super Eagles. “My first session [on Tuesday morning] was great.” Adi created an assist for Victor Moses in the team’s second training in Kaduna on Tuesday evening, and the striker describes the session as “very impressive” with coach Samson Siasia looking on closely and being spoilt for choice ahead of Friday’s big clash. Egypt lead Group G by six points, two ahead of second-placed Nigeria making this encounter a must-win for the Super Eagles. Adi says: “We’re expecting a tough game, they will come with a game plan to play and try to pick a point from here but we need to approach the game in a way that suits us, in a way we can play for ourselves and try to get the maximum three points. “It’s going to be a tough one we just need to do the right things to get through.” With an established favourite starting striker in Watford’s Odion Ighalo, Adi would also have to contend with Aaron Samuel for a place in the team and the US-based striker is taking in the moment quite nicely. “It’s very humbling,” he said. “And I know it’s up to the coach to make the decision on who to play but I would try to do my best to help the team even if it is for one or two minutes.” http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/17252/super-eagles/2016/03/23/21613572/video-fanendo-adi-hopes-for-opportunity-to-nail-egypt?ICID=HP_HN_3 |

"Trust me, there will be no sentiment in selecting the team against Egypt on Friday. We have about seven training sessions for every player to show their readiness to play the game. I have invited them based on their current form in their clubs, now is the time for them to show Nigerians that what we see them do in Europe is real," Siasia told Completesportsnigeria.com. "I am thrilled by their various club performance and if they reproduce such forms here in Nigeria colour, I see no reason why Egypt will not be beaten soundly on Friday. The job demands total commitment from every player and official and with God on our side, we shall triumph over the two legs." Siasia revealed that he would hold meeting with the 24 players and officials in camp after dinner on Monday to let them know his philosophy and tactics for the match. adding that any player who misses the meeting without reasons may have ruled himself out of the game because they all have enough time to meet the deadline. "Though I expect a couple or three of the players to join Tuesday morning " "The response of players to camp, I must say was encouraging and it gives me the confidence that we are going to have a very good game on Friday. We don't fear Egypt. In fact, they should fear us because we won't give them any breathing space in Kaduna and Alexandria," Siasia stated. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/siasia-expects-eagles-replicate-top-club-forms-thrash-egypt/ |
