Eagles gather steam for Egypt clash Three-time African champions, Nigeria are reaching new heights as they prepare for a make or break 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier with seven-time record winners Egypt on March 25 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna. Egypt are on top of Group G of the Nations Cup qualifiers with a maximum six points after wins over Tanzania and Chad while Nigeria are second with four points. A Nigerian win will see the Eagles leapfrog the Pharaohs by a point going into the return leg in four days time in Alexandria, which stand-in Coach Samso Siasia believes his charges will win without breaking much sweat. And speaking on his side’s readiness for the crunch Friday night fixture on March 25, the former Beijing Olympic silver-medal-winning coach said he was impressed with the players’ progress at the Bolton White Apartment camp of the Eagles. “The boys are coping with the routines we have been introducing to them and I am happy with their progress. The match with Egypt presents us with an opportunity to show our fans how committed and determined we are in our pursuit of the ticket to play in the Nations Cup next year in Gabon. “I am quite hopeful that we will overcome them because we have gathered enough steam in the past five days of training ad with another round next week, I am sure our steam level would have gone up as we await the arrival of the players in Europe in camp for this very important match”, added Siasia. Nigeria v Egypt: Ighalo’s goal drought opens doors for Adi, Chikatara https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Odion-Ighalo.jpg Odion Ighalo Allwell Okpi It is less than two weeks to Nigeria’s two-legged 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Egypt and Super Eagles top striker, Odion Ighalo of Watford, has yet to overcome the goal drought he has been experiencing since January. Ighalo, who has scored 14 goals in the English Premier League between August and December 2015, has failed to score in the league this year, raising doubts about his ability to play his role as the Eagles’ main goal-scorer against Egypt. Going by the stance of the interim Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, who has said players’ performance in the previous national team assignments and club form would not count, it seems the lead striker role would be open to the likes of Fanendi Adi of Portland Timbers, USA, and Chisom Chikatara of Abia Warriors. Adi, who just got invited to the Eagles for the first time, has been in fine goal-scoring form in the US’ Major League Soccer, having helped his club win the MLS Cup in December, scoring 18 goals in the process. On the other hand, Chikatara, who was the third highest goal-scorer in the Nigerian league last season, with 15 goals, shot to prominence at the Rwanda 2016 African Nations Championship, where he established himself as a slick goal poacher. According to Siasia, only players who show “ferocious form” during the training for both games will see action. This means other forwards who were invited for the games such as Ahmed Musa of CSKA Moscow, Moses Simon of KAA Gent, Victor Moses of West Ham United, Aminu Umar of Osmanlispor FK, Aaron Samuel of CSKA Moscow, Alex Iwobi of Arsenal FC and Godwin Obaje of Wikki Tourists, equally have the chance of playing major roles in the Eagles’ attack. Ex-international, Garba Lawal, told our correspondent on Friday that Ighalo’s current goal-scoring form wouldn’t matter when the Eagles face Egypt because the coach, Siasia, has invitedother strikers who can also lead Nigeria’s attack. Lawal said, “Did anybody know that Ighalo will score 14 goals in the English Premier League? That is football for you. Sometimes things don’t work out for you. Every striker wants to score goals. I believe Ighalo will come back and score goals. It is left for the coach (Siasia) to choose the players who will make up his team. “He has Chikatara in the squad; he has Adi and others. If he decides to use mainly home-based players, there is no problem with that. The important thing is for us to score goals and win the games. It does not matter who plays. Those two games are very important and it is not going to be easy because the Egypt national team are a strong side.” Similarly, another former Eagles midfielder, Friday Ekpo, believes Ighalo will improve before the games against Egypt. He added that the other strikers invited for the fixture were also equal to the task of scoring goals for Nigeria. “It’s a pity that Ighalo has not been in goal-scoring form recently. It is a cause to worry about but it has to be understood that the English league is different from other leagues. I believe he will get back to form and continue to score goals again,” Ekpo said. “If he does not score against Egypt and others score, we will still appreciate him. It doesn’t really matter who scores. The important thing is playing well as a team and winning the games.” Meanwhile, Siasia has challenged the home-based players, who are already in the camp, to show they can be relied on in crucial games. Siasia was apparently unimpressed by the performance of the players after they played a goalless draw against Nigeria National League side, Katsina United in a friendly game played inside the main bowl of the National Stadium, Abuja, on Thursday evening. “We have to step up our commitment level and show more seriousness,” thenff.com quoted Siasia as saying. “I am yet to see that hunger in all of you in all the friendly matches we have played so far since we opened this camp. We are facing Egypt in about two weeks and we will not stand any chance against them if we do not change our attitude. “How can we, the Super Eagles, play against this NNL team and fail to create one clear-cut goal scoring opportunity? If we cannot create chances in this kind of games, when and where will we be able to create them? I know we are far better than this performance and will improve but we have to do so very quickly because there is no time.” Since opening camp last Sunday in Abuja, the Eagles home stars have played three friendly games, two of which were against the 2016 Rio Olympics-bound Nigeria U-23 team and in all three games, they have scored twice and conceded twice. http://www.punchng.com/nigeria-v-egypt-ighalos-goal-drought-opens-doors-for-adi-chikatara/ |
Egyptian coach not worried about Siasia’s comments By Christopher Megally https://i2.wp.com/www.kingfut.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/2015-635829254355260568-526-e1457769651151.jpg?resize=610%2C400 Photo: Al Ahram Egypt national team goalkeeping trainer Ahmed Nagi assures the Pharaohs will not be fazed by the recent comments of Nigerian coach Samson Siasia. As both sides prepare to go head to head in the crucial 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Nigerian head coach Samson Siasia claimed his side are adopting a “no fear” approach ahead of their match against Egypt. According to thenigerianvoice.com, Siasia is extremely confident that they have nothing to worry about in the double-header. Ahmed Nagi was quick to respond claiming “Siasia’s statements won’t affect Egypt players or the coaching staff,” when quizzed on the subject in a television interview on Wednesday. He then went on to add: “We’re used to hearing these kinds of comments from African coaches. The statements indicate he is worried about the Egypt clash. Siasia respects the Egypt team. He knows our abilities. We also respect the Nigeria team, as they are strong opponents, so I hope to achieve a positive result,” Nagi said. Ahmed Nagi went on to conclude stating: “The team will hold a camp on the 19th of March as the squad will be announced after the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup games. Then we will fly to Nigeria on the 23rd of March in a private Jet, arriving in Kaduna.” The Pharaohs currently lead Nigeria in the qualifying group, with Egypt having won both of their matches to date, two points ahead of the second placed Nigeria. The upcoming clashes could well decide who obtains the automatic qualifying spot from the group, with only the group winners going to the 2017 African Cup automatically. http://www.kingfut.com/2016/03/12/egyptian-coach-not-worried-about-siasias-comments/ |
Hughes Explains Odemwingie’s Loan Move To Bristol https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/mark-hughes.jpg By Adeboye Amosu: Stoke City boss, Mark Hughes says the club allowed Nigeria forward, Peter Odemwingie leave for Bristol City on loan because they could not offer him first team football, reports Completesportsnigeria.com. The 34- year old who has made eight appearances for the Potters in all competitions this season joined Championship side, Bristol, on Friday. Odemwingie is in line to make his debut for his new side who are currently 20th on the Championship table against Fulham on Saturday at the Craven Cottage. "He was as far away from the first 11 as he had been for some time and opportunities here from now until the end of the season would be few and far between," Hughes told the club's official website. "We let him go because we couldn't give him the opportunities he felt his talent deserved and I was in agreement with that. "It is not easy to keep senior players happy and if you can't even get them on the pitch and they sat in the stands it becomes more of a problem. "But if you have the opportunity to get good players in you have to get them into your team. "At some point there will be good players in their own right who will have to leave to make room for players coming in." www.completesportsnigeria.com/hughes-explains-odemwingies-loan-move-bristol/#wsSio2rsIrFQs40m.99 |

Standing5: Buhari is definitely not on the right track, and majority of the people that voted for him have already realized their mistakes and are gradually withdrawing from him. Why did APC witness mind shocking defeat in the just concluded rerun elections in the Benue South Senatorial District and in other places in the country? Why has the fight against corruption chasing only those from the opposition political parties? Lastly, I voted for him thinking he was going to be free and fair as far as the governance of this country is concerned, but to my greatest surprise PMB has proved me wrong by been selective in his crude decision making. It took Buhari few hours to attack the Biafra agitators and even kill some of them in the process, but the same Buhari has allowed his brothers- the Fulani Herds men to continue to attack the helpless farmers and go about with their arms and other dangerous weapons without any body questioning him. Hundreds of people are killed in Agatu and other local government areas of Benue State which is the food basket of the nation, the local people have been driven away from their farm lands and are now in refugee camps and Buhari is doing nothing. Buhari is a mistake to this nation. MR. MAN can you ask yourself 'Why did Buhari wasted no time in sending security forces against the Biafran agitators, but it has taken him more than 9 months to send the same military might against his anointed terrorist- the Fulani Herdsmen who have killed and caused more damage to the country than the MASSOB? BUHARI'S APC CHANGE: FROM CHANGE TO CHAINS*************

owukpa: They did the same thing to the then Gov. Gabriel Torwua Suswam. They shot at his convoy when he went for an assessment of some communities they had attacked. I don't know why it is taking Benue or rather Middle belt prominent sons and daughters so much time to fund a regional militia to combat these terrorist, hence the Buhari and APC led government seems to show not concern.

10 reasons Buhari's popularity is dropping drastically Nkem Ikeke Yesterday 1051 Nkem Ikeke No doubt, President Muhamadu Buhari’s popularity is gradually dropping following the various challenges the nation is facing. The people had high hopes and expectations from the Buhari administration and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). They believed in the APC’s ‘Change’ mantra and were very optimistic things were going to get better. Immediately after Buhari was sworn in May 29, Nigerians were happy with the improvement in power supply and they attributed it to the body language of Buhari. Anybody who tried to criticise the president was referred to as the ‘wailing wailers’. Ten months down the line, the people who were chanting ‘Sai Buhari’ have made a U-turn and are now losing hope in the ability of the president to save the country. This could be as a result of fuel scarcity, poor power supply, the fall in the value of the naira, among other issues. Below are reasons why President Buhari is currently losing his popularity among Nigerians. 1. His frequent foreign trips: Buhari has traveled to more than 20 countries since he was sworn in and he has been given the name ‘Wakawaka Buhari’. Some called him the ‘Junketer-In-Chief’.

Siasia: Nigeria cannot be afraid of Egypt By Ahmed Wagih https://i2.wp.com/www.kingfut.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Samson-Siasia-Nigeria.jpg?w=600 Photo: Nigerian Football Federation official website Nigeria national team manager Samson Siasia stressed that the Egyptian team should be afraid ahead of their AFCON qualifiers’ encounter later in the ongoing month of March. Siasia had previously said that he aims to get all the six points from Egypt in their two-legged clash in the qualifiers, and now warns his players that they cannot be afraid of Egypt. “We are preparing very well [for the game against Egypt], some of the players have just arrived,” Siasia told TheNFF.com “Nigeria is not afraid. Nigeria cannot be afraid of Egypt, we are playing in home what can we be afraid of? Not even away, even in the away game we cannot be afraid. We know they are a good team and we have to be very ready. We just have to continue like that until the foreign-based players come. I told the foreign-based players that everybody can play,” “We don’t have to be Bayern or anything, we want players who will go out there and give 120 percent on that day. We are not messing around, this is a very difficult game we are going to play. I don’t want to punish anyone, I want guys who go out there and play for us with a serious mind and achieve what we are here for. Me under pressure? I have never been under pressure before, why now?” he concluded. It is worth noting that the 48-year-old coach has taken a disciplinary action against three of his squad players after arriving late in training without a permission by excluding them from the list for the Egypt games. http://www.kingfut.com/2016/03/10/siasia-egypt-afraid-nigeria/ |

Boluwaji: Super Eagles interim coach Samson Siasia has praised youngster Alex Iwobi for his brilliant performance for Arsenal in their 4-0 win against Hull City in Tuesday's FA Cup Fifth Round replay,Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Speaking with Completesportsnigeria.com, Siasia urged the 19-year-old not to relent in his efforts to become a great player. Siasia also expressed hope that Iwobi will replicate the same form for the Eagles when they face Egypt in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kaduna. "That was a good one for him, hope he (Iwobi) will continue to give his best. "We also expect him to come down here and do it for Nigeria. He has the quality," Siasia toldCompletesportsnigeria.com. Why Nigeria CAN Reach The 2017 Africa Cup Of Nations https://i1.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Afcon2017.jpg?w=800 In 2017, the 60th anniversary of the Africa Cup of Nations will take place and Nigeria may well be the side to watch throughout the tournament. In recent years, Nigeria have struggled to assert themselves as a dominant African force but they may be on the verge of a return to the big stage. A decade or so ago, Nigeria were arguably the driving force of African football. With the likes of Joseph Yobo, Jon Obi Mikel, Ayegbeni Yakubu and Nwankwo Kanu in the side, Nigerian boasted a star-studded line-up filled with Premier League talent. Nowadays, they struggle to select even one footballer from England’s top flight, however that doesn’t mean they’re a bad side. Nigeria’s main troubles started after their disappointing performance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They lost head coach Stephen Keshi and are currently led by interim boss Samson Siasia. The Super Eagles are struggling to inspire confidence right now but who knows, they may be able to turn their fortunes around in the next twelve months. If truth be told, they’ve been on a downward slope for quite some time. Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 but that was their last real success. In fact, they didn’t even qualify for the 2015 edition, which tells you a lot about the current state of Nigerian football. However, Nigeria’s prestige suggests they will bounce back and be a real force once again. In the next year or so, Bookies.com can keep you updated on the latest news regarding the tournament and other international football and punters can exploit their free bets offers and place a bet on the competition. In their qualifying fixtures, Nigeria are unbeaten and haven’t conceded a goal. However, they have to face Group G leaders twice in the space of four days at the end of March and back-to-back defeats would be catastrophic to their hopes of qualifying for next summer’s competition in Gabon. As we verge closer to March 25th, punters will be able to find odds and betting news regarding the Egypt double header. In the meantime, it might be wise to visit Bookies.com and compare free bets side by side in order to get the best promotional offers. In what is a must-win game for the Super Eagles, punters might prefer to use free bets rather than actual money in this particular encounter. If Nigeria defeat Egypt, their Africa Cup of Nations destiny will be in their own hands. Anything less and they may have to rely on other results to ensure qualification for next summer’s tournament. Nigeria are struggling right now but they have the experience, talent and leadership to turn things around and, with a bit of luck, it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see them feature in Gabon. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/nigeria-can-reach-2017-africa-cup-nations/ |

forgiveness: No am not Sir......... You look down on these leagues right? That was someone like Sunday Mba could save us the AFCON shame when we had people from the so called glamorous leagues in the world on the pitch. Continue looking down on those leagues. It's not always about the league or even club, but what capabilities a player has that makes him stand out. I will always choose these two players ahead of Isaac Success looking at what they have produced so far bro. |
Madaki believes in Eagles by Andrew Randa https://images.supersport.com/2016/3/Chris-Madaki.jpg Chris Madaki Super Eagles and Giwa FC left-back Chris Madaki is confident Nigeria can qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations ahead of Egypt as the two teams prepare for the March 25 clash in Kaduna. Nigeria will play hosts to Group G leaders Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna later this month and then head out to Alexandria to complete the back-to-back series. The two games will potentially throw up the group winners and the sole ticket to Gabon 2017, a feat Madaki feels is possible starting with the game in Kaduna. “It’s mission possible, with God all things are possible and from the seriousness I’ve seen in camp since we resumed I’m positive,” Madaki told supersport.com. “The Egyptians are a very good side, I give them all the respect they are due but I can assure you we are battle ready for the challenge. “Nigerians want to be at the Nations Cup after missing the last one and we (players) have also resolved to make sure that the Super Eagles qualify." The former JUTH FC defender also spoke of his admiration for Samson Siasia and how excited he is to work with the new man in charge. Madaki was part of the Under-23 team before the commencement of the 2015 All Africa Games qualifiers but was later dropped. He got a call-up to the Super Eagles after that and was part of the Nigerian team to the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) in Rwanda, albeit he did not get to play a single minute. “I’m glad to be working with Siasia again because he is a very good coach and I admire his style,” Madaki revealed. “He coached me at under-23 level so I’m looking forward to training with him and hopefully impressing him to get playing time with the Eagles. “Being at the Chan tournament with the Super Eagles was a great experience and I want to try help Nigeria qualify for the Nations Cup and also play there too.” http://www.supersport.com/football/super-eagles/news/160308/Madaki_believes_in_Eagles |
