hollowpot15684:You don't sound like someone who has ever seen ofada rice, not to talk of eating it. This thread seems like the first time you're hearing of local rice, in my opinion. |
TemmyT002:Can we not be optimistic about eating rocks and chaff because we want to eat rice? Moreso, it's simply a product that was improperly refined, all people have to do is remove the chaff and stones, not eat them. Why are you folks giving this kind of advice? ![]() |
I don't know what to say. I'll soon remove mouth from Nigeria matters the way things are looking, |
The second picture is clearly not Fulani though. . . ![]() |
MissOffpoint:I think this is a Nigerian thing. If someone does something I don't like, I can'tt tell the person, I will just keep it in my mindAlso a Nigerian thing. It's bad but I don't know how to stop it.You can't necessarily stop it if it's your nature, probably learning how to forgive might be important. |
Like I pointed out before, an easy way to destone ofada rice is parboil, then separate the soft rice from the stones by a process of manual filtration. This would remove the stones but not the chaff, the rice is best dechaffed before cooking while it's dry. |
The important thing when making ofada local rice is, don't be in a hurry, take your time and make sure you remove all the stones and chaff, it's not prepared the exact same way as polished rice, it requires a little more effort. |
To dechaff the rice, you need to winnow it. Winnow means separating the chaff from grain by fanning. This is done by blowing a current of air through the individual rice grains, you either flip the rice on a large flat tray (that's the method I know), or you pour the rice from a distance and the air removes the chaff. |
armadeo:Not everyone knows how to process it properly. The rice is very tasty without the stones and chaff. |
CONFAMA:True |
Breaststroke:Ok |
^^he (the other moniker) is actually right though. |
do the people back home really want us?They mostly don't. |
I haven't gotten to the point where I'll no longer put mouth in anything concerning Nigeria but I'll arrive there soon. |
mercyviv:So just because you don't like the person who pointed out some local rice has stones and chaff, you ignore his actual point instead of ensuring quality control? Nobody prays to get appendicitis but you people are harsh. ![]() Imagine somebody saying to just chew the stones, what on earth is with you folks? ![]() |

People do it but it's not encouraged. |
Warning Signs That the U.S. Housing Market Crash Is Almost Here https://www.ccn.com/warning-signs-us-housing-market-crash/ |

The Biggest Housing Boom In History Has Just Begun https://www.forbes.com/sites/stephenmcbride1/2019/10/14/the-biggest-housing-boom-in-history-has-just-begun/#6e6e41be25b0 |
7Alexandre:I'm sorry, this makes no sense at all. ![]() The previous housing crisis was due to people buying homes they could not afford on their income, because they were offered deals where they could pay only the minimal interest as mortgage. When these interest only payments ended before the home buyers were ready and while their regular income remained the same, they were unable to make the payments and so there was a housing crisis. For example, let's say you were paying a $150- $300 interest only mortgage on a house (hypothetically speaking) with an income of $2000 per month, then suddenly your payment ballooned to $2800 per month without warning. This is my understanding of what happened. |
7Alexandre:Housing affordability depends on factors which include: 1. Your income 2. Employment 3. Your location (some places have cheaper prices than others, obviously) 4. Your preference as per location. Which of these factors are you struggling with at the moment? Btw someone there was typing about US housing market but it's highly doubtful the person is even in the US, I could be wrong. |

hollowpot15684:Go ahead if you feel like it. |
hollowpot15684:wrong answer, wrong answer, wrong answer, wrong answer!!!!!!!!! |
ericsmith:As long as it doesnt bother you, it shouldn't bother anyone else. |
For those offended by the idea of stony rice: When you buy the bagged one instead of the open rice sold in the market, it's possible you might be getting a more carefully processed item. Besides, the bagged type would have the manufacturer's infomation on it, unlike the "piecemeal" one. And yes, obviously the stone rice would be cheaper, but sometimes you dont know exactly what you're buying especially if you aren't familiar with the product. Same way I was amazed when people said plastic rice was a thing at some point. |
Looks good but pictures of the raw rice should be featured. |
