In the Benin bronzes, the wrappers are tied on the left, is this significant in Bini tradition? |
..... |
CONFAMA:I dont know. |
Breaststroke:1. I've noticed a deep fear among Edo folks, especially Benin (perhaps the ones on nairaland?) about the word "left". They seem to associate it with everything bad and some intense evil. 2. I was called "left" by somebody I assume to be from Edo, he seemed to feel that was the highest insult he could give me, almost like accusing me of a crime or some derogatory stuff.(How can left be a worse epithet than prostitute, I wonder?) 3. There's a thread somewhere, a nler was warning some unknown folks about the dangers of meddling with or attacking a "left", he said they cant win. 4. Etc etc, like the photo where the fiancee stood to the right of the fiance instead of his left and their matching tshirts were out of sync because of this. It's all very strange. |
hollowpot15684:You cant chew stones nah? ![]() What am I missing here? |
lakesider:Its inedible, chewing on stones and chaff instead of rice. Nigerians should not suffer this much because of ignorance. Besides the stone rice is cheaper than the properly cleaned one and possibly more easily available in areas. The cleaning is left to the consumer, so you have to do it well. |
If he has the idea as a woman you need to be "fixed", give him his distance. Seems he doesnt even know the meaning of fixed or he's just being an idiot. |
For sure, many women are making it seem something is wrong with the ladies who are not attractive enough to be sexually harassed by males. Very paradoxical, might be left things. Of course if you focus on Christ, you can preach to men to do the same, win win situation. |
CONFAMA:Any interpretation you give to left. |

7Alexandre:Not really. Why do you think so? |
To dehusk rice and remove chaff, it might be better to have someone show you how to do it, or watch videos. Its wind driven, you need a large flat tray and you carefully throw the rice in the air without spilling it. |
Also manually pick the larger stones from the rice before washing it. |
In this video, the rice is being washed. To destone rice, instead of draining the water, stir the rice and scoop it out a little at a time from the top. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k9ItS0QVTc |
You can also parboil the rice then wash thoroughly, stir and remove the stones which would be at the bottom of the pot. |
It's best if you watch how its done. To remove chaff and husks from rice is a different method also. |
It's like panning for metals, how they wash them in the stream. |
It's been a while, but luckily I learnt how to filter local rice to make it edible and tastier. Wash the rice with plenty of water. Stir it thoroughly. Use a small bowl to scoop the rice a little at a time, still with plenty of water Roll the rice in the bowl, either manually or with a sliding motion The stones should settle at the bottom of the bowl Pour out the top rice slowly into another container Dispose of the stones Repeat the procedure until the rice is stone free. |
Well I never!!!!!!! Even the well known mighty keyboard warriors ran away simply because I said (I'm) left. Way to make me feel like shrek, people!!!!! ![]() |
These two populations coexist in some areas but do not interbreed -- and evidently cannot do so.Your evidence for the latter assumption which has nothing to do with your former? ![]() How is this obviously complex multicellular organism able to survive without a complex respiratory system?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutaneous_respiration |
Nigerians who have made rice the cornerstone of their existenceI doubt this can be rectified. Rice is important to Nigerians. Sunday rice is one of my earliest memories in the country. You can get your carbs from other sources (cheaper) or be like our parents of old and take some good old starch (fufu, Gari, etc.) with some awesome-tasting vegetable soup!True. |
No wonder some people confuse me with sex worker. Gap teeth- check Name- check Appearance- check Doesn't look like a sex worker- check |
To me, indigene means you can trace your ancestry back to the pre-modern history of a place. Settler means you know where your ancestors came from (during the same era as the above). Just offhand without looking at a dictionary. |
Fountainofyouth:ok |
Melvinsofty:Why should I "attack" her? She should stop this stuff she's engaging in, that's all. It's not funny, your laughing doesn't make it funny and you're making her feel it's ok when it's not. Show some sense of responsibility, don't joke with the kind of subject matter you were joking with. Why are you people derailing threads all over the place today? Did you have a rough weekend? |
Subduer:Looking up onugbu, seems it means bitterleaf? It has a sweet aftertaste but this moniker is clearly just bitter. See how he or she even derailed the thread due to excessive bitterness. ![]() Also, it doesn't necessarily mean the person behind the moniker is Igbo however, he or she has been dodging questions about where s/he is from, I've asked previously. |
udoekere:A man's wife is ok for you to bash because? ![]() You know her personally? Besides, "your grandma" is not an insult. Take care of your grandma, are you not doing that or what? |
sweetonugbu:Are you from Kogi? |
