Chino and Roadstar please if u're also going to join in this sleazefest keep Anambra folks out of it and restrict the comparisons to yourselves/families.
Politics / Re: Anambra Vs Abia. Which Is More Organized? by Nnenna1(f): 4:47pm On Mar 19, 2012
Sigh - ok Anambra State has been found to be the absolute worst in Igboland with absolutely nothing but trash to offer and it's people are nothing more than illiterate petty traders who have just been served!

And we all lived happily ever after. The end.

SMH.

I really wish Nigeria had little to no oil or natural resources. I hate our oil wealth and everything it stands for because it has been nothing but a curse.

On a serious note though, I don't necessarily get offended by this stuff personally. I have long-azz monkey arms, so probably would be unfair of me to get pissed at anyone for pointing this out cheesy

Maybe it's just me. Sometimes it makes me cringe to be honest.

What part of "I don't care about oyinbo" puzzled you?

Oh sorry now I understand. You don't care that they being migrants think of and treat Nigerians with disdain even though we are just as accommodating to them as we are to our fellow Nigerians. But this sort of topic gets you excited.

I wanted to give you a chance to clarify but I guess this is what it means.

Carry on - apologies for the interruption.

You'd have to define what "don't care" means.

Don't be silly. very race deals with this. Ask how pakis/Asians in England are treated. Or how Mexicans are treated in the US by White Americans. Humans are naturally territorial. It has nothing to do with skin color!

Politics / Re: Igbo In Fading Shadows ( Na Today?) by Nnenna1(f): 2:33am On Mar 19, 2012
One example is the website at Oyibos Online. The members there (who are foreign expatriates based in Nigeria) say the most derogatory things about their hosts, and act on their prejudices in several instances in real life.

Yet none of us burns 1 calorie discussing them with as much fervor and passion as I see here.

Crabs in a bucket mentality?

bashr8: igbos are in yorubaland the same way yorubas are in igboland these dumb yorubas sould get off this thread and stop polluting it, these yorubas are all over onitsha ,aba and ph we igbos accomodate them in our land we dont harrass them in any way like they use opc to harras non yorubas yet these ungratefull dogs want to boast about accomodating people even when they dont contribute anything to the economy of igboland . ungratefull ofemmanus. meanwhile get off this thread it has nothing to do with you. your still poorer than igbo anyway even with our massive investments outside igboland.

This is beyond Igbo-Yoruba.

I think that this is a Black or African thing. We would do this as well if we were in their shoes, I think.

Please lipsrsealed

Compare the amount of Igbo people in Yorubaland to the amount of Yorubas in Igboland. The numbers don't even come close to matching up.If Yorubas flooded the East like Igbos have done Youbaland, Igbo people would be up in arms about it.The truth is Igbos have left Igboland undeveloped and wretched. The place is packed to the rafters with armed robbers and fraudsters. Its a horrible place. Yoruba people like to stay in Yorubaland. Imagine all these Igbo kids that speak perfect Yoruba but can't speak a word of Igbo...IS THAT A GOOD THING? It's shameful if you ask me lipsrsealed.

This is also a comment (or variants of it) I see often from Non-Igbos regardless of tribe. Igbos do this as well, don't get me wrong. I guess we're not as in your face with it as we are the most "evident" migrants and it would seem hypocritical.

Off-topic, but Africans seem to be very territorial. You see this a lot Ghana, South Africa etc.

The hostility doesn't extend to non-Blacks though.
Politics / Re: Igbo In Fading Shadows ( Na Today?) by Nnenna1(f): 2:07am On Mar 19, 2012
It seems that every region that has Igbo migrants in significant numbers tends to describe itself as accommodating.

Something I noticed.

Politics / Re: Awka Is Nigeria’s Least Developed State Capital by Nnenna1(f): 6:33pm On Mar 15, 2012
It would make sense that Awka and Abakiliki would be on the lower end of the capitals in the SE:

Imo and Abia have larger federal allocations since they have been classified as Niger Delta states thus more money for infrastructural development.

Enugu has had the advantage of being a center for colonial administration in the SE and it was the capital of old Anambra state.

Owerri was also the capital of old Imo state with an added advantage of age in terms of capital city years of development.

My personal ranking of these capital correlates all too well with the advantages meted out to these cities: Enugu first, then Owerri, then Umuahia, followed closely by Awka, followed closely by Abakaliki.

Nothing much really to do with any innate inferiority/superiority of governments of the people-just to clear the air.

I see that we Anambra folks ain't well liked by our Igbo brothers. ah well.

There is a lot of chaos and little direction at the moment. Do they want to establish a permanent base or cause outright civil war? Or both?

What do they stand to gain by political discord that they haven't from relative stability?

The so-called is not really for everyone. I think Nigeria will thrive better under the Chinese system. Love us or loathe us - Africans are not individualistic people like the Westerners; we're more community oriented like the Chinese, and we need something like a dictator at the center into install discipline in the populace.

Oh I didn't see the above.

But what about the failed dictatorships of Abacha, Babangida, etc? Where exactly did they go wrong?

I think greed, lack of vision and a low moral self are our social problems that flow up to leadership. I wish we could have a leader with goals and loyalty to the people but they are hard to come by these days even among the common man.

Our morale is really low at this point.  sad

@Nnenna1

I can tell you authoritatively say that Obama is going to be a one-term President - he was just selected to calm the polity down, after Iraq and Afghanistan debacle. the US of A would be on the march again soon, and Mitt Romney is going to be selected come the next election - to champion that cause.

US of A a la Amerikkka as we call it, is not a country to emulate - emulating it is a precipe for disaster, that's why Nigeria is so phucked up.

What form of government is best for Nigeria, you think?

Aside from Democracy - because I honestly think it's not ideal for us at this point.

What? 90% of dictatorship produce Mobuto Sese seko-esques, according to our NL progressives/intellectuals.  Why mention Singapore, Lee Kuan yew, Jerry Rawlings, Muhammad Buhari when you can easily point fingers at Mobutu Sese seko et al?

Most democratic societies are not exactly working either.

Pretty much all forms of government are imperfect. Some more imperfect than others, I agree.

But there is at least one success story that we can think of. Peaceful Democracy (Sweden, USA), Benevolent Dictatorship (Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew), Stable Monarchy (Monaco, Luxembourg),  and the one-off Religious State(Rome, UAE) exist.

Rainbows and Sunshine - as long as it fits properly with the masses.

Nothing is black and white anyway - whoever says that dictatorship can never work should take a look at Singapore.

Religion / Re: How Churches Make Their Members Buy Their Books by Nnenna1(f): 12:01am On Mar 05, 2012
The success of Pentecostal Churches is just one manifestation how gullible, subservient, and superstitious the average Nigerian person is.

This reminds of a story narrated to me by a family friend who lost her father. During the onset of his illness they had rushed him to the small "Christian" hospital (in our Neighborhood) in the late hours of the Night. The chief doctor, who also happened to be head pastor of his church, had received them  initially but then (I guess sensing that there was nothing he could do) asked them (quite rudely) to leave, saying that his hospital was blessed by God and was not one to harbor curses of the devil such as her father's predicament. And that they should find some other hospital who could harbor them.

His zombie assistants and nurses were also quick to usher them out too.

I will not mention names but this doctor is a highly respected professional and Christian around the parts that I lived in. Of course hearing this story strengthened my position on seeing the majority of these "men of God" (puke) for the opportunistic, fake, and anti-christian people that they are.

The bolded ( or variants of it) is starting to sound like a broken record.

If you didn't understand my simple questions and why it was addressed (including the sarcasm there) then you should have asked you know?  smiley

Ok, I will be more direct - this has little to do with Igbo, Yoruba and Nigerian history in and of themselves and more to do with the hypocrisy behind this:

Quote from: amor4ce on February 22, 2012, 09:26 PM
Personally, I have not accepted the claims by some about the age of Igbo Ukwu and Nri as I see such as an attempted, biased and maybe narcissistic desire to claim pre-eminence. What about the old Sukur  kingdom [i.e. Northern history] or Koma or Sungbo Eredo [Yoruba History] or the nations/kingdoms that fled away from the Fulani to the mountains?

Amor4ce = Most Likely Yoruba.

My Questions - is he exempt from being [in his words] biased and maybe narcissistic? Why?

Very Simple.

Culture / Re: Does Any One Knows Why twins Were Killed In Igboland by Nnenna1(f): 6:04am On Feb 24, 2012
Even if it were true that Igbos killed twins in the past, I find interesting that in a cultural forum meant to highlight positives of individual tribes, negatives are ascribed to Igbos in particular.

Never mind that virtually all of Nigerian tribes have engaged in  barbaric acts - such as kings feasting on dead bodies/being buried with dead bodies/human heads, human sacrifices, cannibalism [even as recent as last year], propensity to commit Jihad-like killings, killing of twins (by other groups).

And yet - this is where it gets ironic and hypocritical - other groups are not placed on trial for this on culture page.

As I said in another thread, it seems that Igbos are held to high moral standards that everyone else in Nigeria is exempt from.

Not to pick on you, but something about the bolded strikes me. When you imply that the Northern and/or the Yoruba must be the oldest kingdoms in Nigeria rather than Igbo (per your reference to the Sukur Kingdom and Sungbo Eredo) , do you have an attempted, biased and maybe narcissistic desire to claim pre-eminence for your tribe (I'm guessing that you're Yoruba)? Or do you excuse yourself from this possibility?

Please, enlighten me. It seems that Igbos are held to high moral standards that everyone else in Nigeria is exempt from.
