Health / Average Nigerian Height (Nigerian Males - Africa's Shortest?) by Nnenna1(f): 2:16am On Nov 30, 2011
I came across this interesting piece in wikipedia about the average human height per country in the world, and did a tally of the reported heights from Some African countries. See below:

                            Male                                Female

Nigeria           1.638 m (5 ft 4 1⁄2 in)             1.578 m (5 ft 2 in)

Mali                1.713 m (5 ft 7 1⁄2 in)             1.604 m (5 ft 3 in)

Cameroon      1.706 m (5 ft 7 in)                   1.613 m (5 ft 3 1⁄2 in)

Cote D'Ivoire  1.701 m (5 ft 7 in)                   1.591 m (5 ft 2 1⁄2 in)

Ghana            1.695 m (5 ft 6 1⁄2 in)              1.585 m (5 ft 2 1⁄2 in)

Gambia           1.680 m (5 ft 6 in)                    1.578 m (5 ft 2 in)

Malawi            1.660 m (5 ft 5 1⁄2 in)              1.550 m (5 ft 1 in)

South Africa     1.690 m (5 ft 6 1⁄2 in)              1.590 m (5 ft 2 1⁄2 in)

Nigerian men came out to be the shortest in this list. I find this a little strange - obviously there are issues that undermine the data (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average_height). And yes, I know it's Wikipedia. But hmm,  undecided

If you look at the source even Chinese, Vietnamese and Mexican men one-upped Nigerians.

I can see where the OP is coming from - but each individual tribe has a stereotyped look. Stereotypes have some basis in truth, I guess.

I wish more of Igbo-speaking movies were made - they had some of the best storylines. Why aren't they as popular anymore? I know quite a few are still being produced, but the more popular nollywood movies propagating Igbo culture are in English.

Justcash:

GEJ's led government is making too much of noise about their plans without actually achieving anything. They should stop all these "We plan to" attitude and adopt a "We have done" one. It will be better for them to keep quiet and announce their achievements after they have been achieved. They have always been planning without any concrete actualization of such plans.
GEJ is not alone in this. Even performing governors like Fashola and Amaechi are guilty of the above.

I find GEJ's the most annoying though. I think he's more interested in how articulate he sounds when makes his speeches.

Rykardo Agbor - if he lost the weight and buff up (within reason). He has a disinterested look that I like.

Also Sam Dede.

Did someone mention Majid? Lol, you must be mistaking James Bond for Twilight or something.

morpheus24:

Survival of the fitttest is not a "man-made" concept but natures biological mechanism of ensuring life survives threats, evolves and sustains itself. Unfortunately what most of us have ben introduced to as the definitions of this natural concept stems from  Man's "SOCIAL" version of this biological process played out in constructs we conjure up as an effort in trying to "efficiently" control the world around us on our terms. There in lies the flaw in mans relationship to nature that sets him apart as the most devious of all species.

There is a "biological" reason black people are black
There is a "biological' reason why most people that live in tropical climates have darker skin
There is a biological reason why the accumulation of knowledge bases over centuries leads to certain societies having greater expertise over others.

If you feel "the black" mans agenda at this stage of human evolution is to worry about how "united" we need to be to advance, you are entitled to that opinion and are welcome to push for that agenda. I for one see that as a trivial attempt to solve an underlying pshychological issue that plagues the psyche of Africans. The unification of "purpose" for any people can be constructed along many lines. Colour being the least of my favorites

Could you expound on the bolded? What other alternatives do you feel are better?
Foreign Affairs / Re: The Second Berlin Plunder Of Africa by Nnenna1(f): 3:03pm On Nov 16, 2011
morpheus24:

Unfortunately you are talking to hard headed militants who view the world as a "survival of the fittest" paradigm where its us against them and similar to their primitive animal kingdom cousines, find favor in clinging on to the concepts of "our kind". They find solice in its social constructs which gives meaning to their miserable human conditions.

Save your breath.

As much as I try to think of humanity in a different light it really does boil down to this. Disregarding the reality of "survival of the fittest" is the reason why the natives in the Northern parts of America and Australia/New Zealand are all but extinct. We are animals after all, although more sophisticated in how we demonstrate this truth.

It's sad because I want to believe that mankind is united but my experiences and the things I read and hear indicate otherwise. As time flies and our consciousness continues to evolve maybe we can reach that united front, but I think it's going to take multiple lifetimes. Until then I believe we should tend to our own in defense until we can match head to head with those who might pose a threat to us. Taking an inward approach to ourselves is key. I was watching this video and this guy makes a lot of sense -

I will say something though - a lot of the time, people of the continent (Africans and Africans in Diaspora) do a great job of facilitating those who don't wish us well or regard us with disdain. Too lazy to go into details but I'm sure you get the picture.
