Thrown in the pit latrine - that's the only place deserving of such a watery stool theory like yours. Strikers are attackers. We can set up a simple poll to evaluate the opinions of nairaland sports aficionados.
Yes you are correct. . . . to a certain extent hence I would update my definition of terms . . . grin grin grin

Updated Definition of Terms:

- Playmaker is a subset of Attackers.
- Strikers is a subset of Attackers.
- Poacher is a subset of Strikers.
- Attacking Midfielders is a overlapping subset of Attackers and Midfielders.

Althought Berbatov is an attacker nevertheless he is not a striker. . .i.e. Berbatov is a member of the set of Attackers but not a member of the subset Strikers.

Dude you're talking nonsense.

Lampard doesn't roam - if you put his scoring positions on a map, they’ll mostly appear just outside the box or a bit inside. That is not the effect of roaming, but of consistent, focused tactical play and effort.

Saying Inzaghi and RVP doesn’t roam is a moot point – Inzaghi and RVN are poachers, which is a subset of strikers.

Berbatov IS a striker but is NOT a poacher – that is the distinction. The distinction you have made is flawed.

There are attacking players, and these can play in any area of the pitch and are determined as such by their overarching tendencies – Cashley is an attacking player but is a LB, Cesc is an attacking player but is a CM, Inzaghi is an attacking player but he is a striker.

Zizou is an attacking player who happens to play in midfield, but even he cannot claim to score goals like Ronaldo did. . . simply because there are exceptions to the rule. Furthermore, Ronaldo was played as a striker in many games for Utd as well.
grin grin grin

Definition of Terms:

- Playmaker is a subset of Attackers.
- Strikers is another set on its own.
- Poacher is a subset of Strikers.

Berbatov is not a striker.
Berbatov is an attacker.

Zidane is a playmaker! A 10! He can be laissez-faire if he wants to but even at that he is not as languid as Berbatov. . There where games Zidane took by the scruff the neck with his vision or his ability to deliver from set-pieces. The difference between Zizou and Berba is that Zizou always knew when to up the ante so there was method to Zidane's style

He simply is not worth that much so the transfer looked like a stillborn from the onset and if we compare him to his contemporaries at the moment he's been massively disappointing. When the game is on the line you want your 30milla striker to show his worth e.g he is yet to score against any member of the big 4 since joining Utd. He is a good player but very over-rated and may not be the man for the job at Utd. His intl record would not be so good if Bulgaria where not such a shitty team
Yes I agree and I still maintain that Berbatov is an attacker not a striker (his playing style shows that). If you compare Berbatov and Zizzou you would notice that there playing style is similar except that Zizzou is far more talented and skillful than Berbatov.

Definition of Terms:

- Playmaker is a subset of Attacker.
- Striker is another set on its own.

na wa o - so No2A is now redefining what a striker is and what an attacker is?  huh

I don't agree with your analysis - if you 'roam' all over the place you don't score 23 goals.

You cannot consistently score 20+ goals if you are all over the place - goals are scored mostly in the box and people who end up in the box are most often strikers. A few exceptions exist of course, like Lampard, but even he didn't roam all over the place and had such a high goal rate because of his consistent late arrival in the box and having a fantastic shot - a focused player not someone roaming and having 'freedom'. Very rarely you have exceptions like CR who can do everything and thus score goals from anywhere.

You can't score 23 goals in 2 consecutive seasons in the EPL playing as a STRIKER and not be a striker. This 'natural mindset' thing is overstated here.

Even Rooney that you claim is 'roaming' is scoring more goals this season because he has been allowed to play as a striker.
grin grin grin grin

You have answered yourself . . . Roaming + Arriving in the box to score = Attacker.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Rooney issue is simple . . .Rooney is better than Berbatov . . . hence he is more able to adapt, yet you can still see that Rooney still roams (cus Roaming is also natural to Rooney).

You hardly see Van Nistelroy roaming . . .

hasty conclusion

u dont know what ure saying. hes getting better @ UTD
- Yes I agree he is getting better . . .however he is not necessarily getting better for his primary position for which he was bought i.e. striker, instead he is getting better as an "attacker" but not really as a "striker".

- That is why context of the player's natural position and mindset is important.

- Berbatov's inadequacy as a top striker was covered up by the presence of Ronaldo in the team last season. . . however this season this has become exposed. It does not necessarily mean that Berbatov is getting worse, on the contrary it only means that he is not suitable fo the position which ManUtd intend to use him for.

Rooney and Giggs are already filling the roaming attacking midfielder role, hence making life more difficult for Berbatov cus that means he simply has to deliver as a Striker . . . which he is naturally not.

he scored goals as a top man for Leverkusen and did well in his partnership with Robbie

hes the highest goal scorer of all times for Bulgaria at age 27!! meaning he can score

but why is he not scoring for UTD?
his misses are unforgivable and his goals atimes are classics!!
berba is good but he has issues i swear
You are still not getting my point . . .

- Yes he scores goals
- Yes he can score goals
- Nevertheless that is not his natural mindset. . . you can know the natural mindset of a player by studying the player's game.
- The Natural mindset of Berbatov is an "attacker" and not a "striker".

For example: Ikechukuwu Uche is an attacker not a striker. Obafemi Martins is a striker not an attacker.

Because a player scores shed loads of goals still does not change his style of play and natural mindset. . . precedents show that a player might get away with playing in the wrong position if such a player is playing in a substandard league. Hence a Mikel Obi might get away with being played as an attacking midfielder withing Nigeria but at the world stage, the player's natural "safe mode" instinct kicks in.

Berbatov is a roaming attacker who is capable of scoring goals . . .however he's natural instinct is not score first ask questions later. . . he's natural instinct is to play good football and create chances while attacking.

The unfortunate thing for Alex Ferguson is that he wasted the money on him . . . cus the reality is that Tevez was better suited to ManUTd's game than Berbatov . . . Arsenal is more suited to Berbatov's game . . .

Going to ManUtd was a big mistake for Berbatov . . .

debosky:
You don't know what you're talking about dude - before coming to Utd the dudescored 23 goals in back to back seasons for Spurs - how can that NOT be prolific?  huh In his two previous seasons with Leverkusen he scored 20+ goals as well so unless prolific is being redefined here, you're way off the mark.

Partnering Robbie Keane at Spurs he scored goals for fun so obviously he is having trouble adapting to Utd's way of playing, OR he's been instructed to do something different.
Debosky stop this wrong association . . .by your logic, it means you are saying that Berbatov is like Owee and Nistelroy and Original Ronaldo. . . . nope they are different in terms of positional play.

Berbatov is not a striker pure and simple . . .Berbatov is an attacker (more specifically he is an attacking midfielder) . . please note the difference . . .

- Its easy to shine in a small club in a wrong position and get found out in large club at the same position. . . hence its not a big deal that he was able to score shed loads at Spurs . . .without being too criticised when he goes on a barren run. Also note that he does not have the luxury of much playing time hence he does not have the luxury of making up for the goals later on in the season. He can easily get away with barren runs in Spurs cus the weight of expectation is not as much as that of ManUTd

- Number of goals scored by a player is not really indicative of his position. . . e.g. Ronaldo is not a striker but he scores shed loads of goals from his natural position on the wings.

- Likewise Berbatov from his game play and movement and intelligence is easily seen that he is an attacking midfielder.

- The issue is that at Spurs, he had the freedom to roam. . . without being burden with a restrictive position and duty. . . hence his natural tendency to drift around in attack was less of a problem. However cus Rooney already fills the role of the drifting player in ManUtd it becomes imperative for Berbatov to be restricted to pure a striker (something which he is not but which Owen is)

that is debatable. There are different levels of management, and different levels of abstraction are affordable. An operations level manager needs a considerable level of hands on knowledge, while an executive could do with little to none.

The e-revolution can only get to Nigerians when they see superior and more secure e-services. You dont force people to use a system you are testing; you only encourage them.

If the NEFT transfer system is more secure, no sane Nigerian businessman would want to issue a cheque. As it is, the widely known ATM fraud discourages people from getting involved with any electronic system. The CBN should first address banking security before coming up with the NEFT policy.

By the way, I did a NEFT transfer to a business associate last month and he said he hasnt seen the money. I've been chasing this for some time now with no success. Dont expect me to try it again unless the system improves.

For example, see Tiger Woods (who obviously does not consider himself black) is now being hypocritically treated like a leper in the news media, yes Tiger Woods was wrong to cheat on his wife and endanger her to sexually transmitted diseases. In regards to Tiger Woods, the lesson is that: alienate your own black people at your own risk.
