Governor Samuel Ortom says Benue State Government will continue to support youths of the state to excel in their chosen careers.

The Governor stated this when he received Andrew Wuester Ijever who emerged as the overall best graduating student at University of Calabar, from the Radiology Department and Joshua Adache who also bagged first class degree from the same department.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu, Governor Ortom said he was impressed by the excellent performances of the two Benue sons, stressing that automatic appointments awaited them at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi.

He commended the two graduates for being good ambassadors of the state especially for excelling in the field of medical sciences, pointing out that his administration had also repositioned the health sector in the state for better performance and production of manpower.

The Governor who acknowledged the educational prowess of Benue people in the Northern part of Nigeria, stressed that the state had always taken the top two positions in academics in the entire Northern region.

He charged the younger generation to emulate Ijever and Adache who had distinguished themselves in academics, saying with determination, they could achieve even more.

President, Benue Youth Forum, Comrade Terrence Kuanum who led the youth and student unions to present the young academics to the Governor, said young people of the state were overwhelmed with joy and decided to welcome their ambassadors

This man is fighting many battles.

He was in court this week in continuation of EFCC corruption case against him and his cronies. Now, his party has suspended him.

He is trying to still remain relevant in the state even after leaving power. Since he can't get that in PDP hence his romance with APC. I think he will eventually join the APC fully.

March 29-30, 2021 – Candidates who applied to the Faculty of Science.

March 31-April 1, 2021 – Candidates who applied to the College of Medicine.

Those of us in Abuja have been queuing up since yesterday to collect certificate. The waiting area is filled with people and covid 19 protocol is not been observed. To make matters worse, the collection time table is not been followed.

They are still attending to faculties earlier scheduled for yesterday and the day before. The staffs are also very slow with the process.

House Urges FG to Lift Embargo Placed on Employment

The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to lift the embargo placed on employment by federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and the private sector in order to ameliorate the effects of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.


The House also called on members of the organised private sector to fill existing vacancies in order to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country, given the interventions it may have enjoyed from the federal government and other development partners.

The resolution of the House was sequel to the adoption of the motion moved by Hon. Sani Bala at the plenary yesterday.

It urged the “federal government to lift the embargo placed on employment by directing the Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF) to declare existing vacancies and direct the Federal Civil Service Commission to embark on recruitment exercise.”


Leading the debate, Bala recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, during the budget presentation in October 2019, announced an embargo on recruitment in MDAs.

He said the president recently maintained that the federal government stood on the existing embargo placed on recruitment in reaction to the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fall in global oil prices on Nigerians.

The lawmaker noted that by the virtue of its role as the major employer of labour in the country, the action of the federal government not to sack or reduce salaries of its workers at the time has been applauded and has no doubt helped to reduce the worsening effects of the pandemic.


Bala stressed that in as attempt to address the adverse effects of the pandemic, the federal government instituted stimulus packages of N65 billion to assist a coalition of private sector operators; N50 billion survival funds for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and N15 billion guaranteed uptake scheme to save 500,000 jobs, among other interventions.

He further expressed worry that in addition to the two million Nigerians previously projected by the World Bank to become impoverished, a further five million Nigerians have been said to be facing poverty as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
