Yes, you're right. However, bringing people to church is one of the strategies for getting them edified and ground in the faith.

Even John the baptist of the Law and the prophets knew what it meant to bear fruits. He said to the Pharisees:

So the fruits in question are the good fruits (proof) of true repentance, in other words, evidence to show that one has truly repented, hence it's if one doesn't have such evidence or the good fruits (proof) of true repentance that the axe would be laid to the root of that tree to bring it down and it would be cast into the fire, which is an illustration of eternal damnation.

But what are these good fruits one needs to bear so as not to suffer such a fate?

And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

So according to John the Baptist, it has to do with the works of righteousness and obedience of God's Word.

This aligned with Christ's parable of the sower where the seed which is the Word of God is sown into people's heart, and it's when they keep the Word that they are said to have borne fruits.

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

So as you can see, bearing fruits had nothing to do with growth of church membership but the spiritual growth of an individual, which is evidenced by the works of righteousness and obedience of God's Word.

Hence one can still be having strong church membership growth and yet not be bearing fruits according to what it actually means to bear fruits, because the person is a worker of iniquity and not keeping God's Word.

That's how the axe was yet laid to the roots of the trees of those many anointed ministers and Christians who worked of iniquity Jesus spoke about, despite that their church membership would have grown tremendously because of the signs and wonders that followed them, because to bear fruits means keep the Word of God and that they didn't do.

There are two types of fruits in the Bible. The fruits Jesus was talking about in John 3 is related to salvation - Bringing people into the kingdom. While the fruits John was talking about are spiritual fruits which are the outcome of true repentance as in Galatians 5 - also called fruits of the Spirit.

We as humans beings can only bear fruits by bringing as many people as we can into the church. Out of those we bring, some would enter into the kingdom. However, the matter of true repentance and bearing the fruits of the Spirit isn't the work of man. This is the work of the Holy Spirit plus the cooperation of the individual concerned.

So, we're told to go into the highways and all places to bring the masses in, "that they may know Him the Only true God, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent."

People left even while Jesus our Lord was preaching on earth with only His disciples remaining, and He asked why they're still with Him, why didn't they leave too.

The Bible says even if no one will praise God He'll raise up stones to praise Him. Must there be population growth in Church before you know that you're winning souls? Can't someone win a soul that is attending another Church?

Besides, it's not everyone that was preached to will repent. God knows about this when He says when you go to preach the gospel and weren't accepted by a house, you should dust your foot and leave.

Mind you, these Pastors started working in the Lord's vineyard just last year, and in one year or so they're thrown out for poot growth index.

Oyedepo didn't sack him from serving Jesus Christ. He wasn't called to serve Oyedepo. If after one year of handling a church, no single soul was added to the church, but rather reduction in membership, the wisest thing to do is to replace the pastor with a more effective pastor.

You should note that, hundreds of pastors were employed at the same time with the sacked 40. Those 40 were the only ones sacked because they were the only ones underperforming.

There would be. It's part of the protocol. The public outburst of the pastor that gave the reason for the sack as 'money' rather than the true reason - church growth, already gives him out as a very deceptive and cunning fellow. I think he sacked them for not being effective in evangelism. That's what church growth is all about. An increase in Church attendance from month to month indicates that the pastor is working. Oyedepo isn't God. There's no way he could know how effective a pastor is than using the church growth parameters. Before the sack, there would have been warnings, frequent trainings and workhops which apparently had not yielded the intended results. It's wastage to continue pouring resources into something that doesn't yield. Hence, the sack.

Sacking him from Winner's Chapel doesn't mean he has incapacitated him from working for God. The man was not called to serve God, and not Oyedepo.

I'm Yoruba, and before Kanus arrest, I used to support his Biafra. Yorubas generally have nothing against Igbos. Yorubas and Igbos have intermarried and done so many business partnerships together more than any other tribes in Nigeria.

I still support Biafra. Every Yoruba does but personally, I see no reason to support Kanu any longer.

Kanu is too abrasive. Regards no one. Promotes racism and has enforced himself as a demigod upon his own people. Kanu's followers should have a rethink:

1. All 10 girls Kanu ordered Ipob militants to kill are all Ibos from Imo. You may not have anything against Kanu for this because none of the girls is your blood sister. I'm angry with Kanu for this reason. Ibo lives matter.

2. Kanu ordered Ipob to bury 2000 bodies with dead Okonso, they were only able to bury 30, and all those 30s were Ibos. Assuming there had not been a clampdown on Ipobs by security forces, leading to the subsequent arrest of Kanu, over 2000 Ibos would have been killed. Who knows, you could have been among them.
