In my country and in some outer countries in europa it is now about 300 years ago that they start that every child have to learn reading and writing so what did the people before when they couldnot read, that is what nigerian new churches forget to teach.

What I only hear from friends in my country that that pentecost churches never speak for the poor people in nigeria.

This is an official communication from The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations regarding some stories currently being reported in the media about the recent incident that happened in The SCOAN.

Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the Vanguard Newspaper of 26th September 2014 titled, ‘Synagogue: We Sealed Off Building Before Collapse – LSBCA’.

In the article, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mrs Abimbola Animashahun Odunayo was quoted as saying that the agency had sealed off the building before it collapsed and that the church ignored the warnings of the agency to stop construction. The story was initially published by online media portal News24.

We deem it necessary to state that the above publication is not true in that:

1. No contravention notice was served on the church before the collapse because there was no reason for the issuance of such notices.

2. The building had never been sealed off for any reason whatsoever before the collapse of 12th September, 2014.

3. At no time was any stop-work notice or directive served on the church or pasted on the building prior to 12th September, 2014.

We however wish to state that the letters that were written to the church by LSBCA were written after the collapse of 12/09/14 in the following order:

1. A letter dated 16/09/2014 Ref No. LASBCA/AL/PCA/DH/01 requesting for the submission of a development permit and approval of structures within the church complex, four days after the building collapsed.

2. A contravention notice dated 17/09/2014 Ref No. AL LASBCA/DH/PCA/CN 06 alleging certain contraventions, five days after the building collapsed.

3. A letter dated 17/09/14 Ref No. AL/LASBCA/DH/PCA/CN 06 requesting for non-destructive tests for structural stability, five days after the building collapsed.

It must be noted that no sealing or quit notice has been served as the building never called for such.

In the above circumstances, we would like to believe that LSBCA has been quoted out of context with the motive of destroying the ongoing investigation into the case as well as casting doubt on the position of the church that the collapse was due to an attack.

Our attention was also drawn to a publication in Nigeria’s Guardian Newspaper of Friday 26th September 2014 titled, ‘Early Probe Report Indicates Compromise In Synagogue Building.’

The article quoted the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Lagos State, Mr Toyin Ayinde, as saying that one of the columns or pillars of the collapsed building in the church measured 2 feet by 2 feet and that the reinforcement used for the same was 16mm.

This publication is also misleading and untrue. There is no doubt that it was calculated to give the impression that the collapse was due to structural defects as against the position of the church to the contrary.

We hereby request all the involved parties to take the necessary steps towards correcting such dangerous misinformation so as not to mislead the entire country and the international community.

We also urge the media to take necessary steps towards avoiding the publication of unconfirmed stories in future.

We should not pre-empt and interfere with the ongoing investigation.

My name is Ihechukwu Njoku , a freelancer currently in Lagos . Let me be honest - a brief online check will show that I am a fan of TBJ , evidenced in my numerous write- ups about The SCOAN . I am not however a ‘church spokesman ’ as a few people have insinuated due to the positive focus of my reports .

Before placing me in any stereotypical mould, I am not here to declare some ‘Deuteronomy- style ’ curse on your head or quote the whole ‘touch not my anointed ’ jargon as I know some other religious fanatics (nutheads ) have done.

I simply wish to express my own personal observations of this current ‘bribe- saga ’ in the hope that it may also help clarify a couple of things .

I agree 100% that journalism in Nigeria is darkened by a cloud of corruption where truth is doctored to suit the political will of the paymasters with ‘brown envelopes ’ running the show behind the scenes .

This deserves denunciation and renunciation at every available opportunity by all who believe ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’ .

I would sincerely, however, paint a different picture in the case of T .B . Joshua – based on my own personal experiences and the principles Joshua has espoused and stood for over the years.

I am not sure how well you know TBJ or SCOAN but I would say first of all that it would be impromptu to use this particular tragic incident and the church ’s rather unusual reaction to it as a yardstick to determine his integrity .

I have watched Emmanuel TV for nearly five years and visited The SCOAN several times during this period . I was initially very skeptical but what caught my attention was the sheer simplicity of Joshua’s message and lifestyle . He is a fresh
exception to the ‘money- mongering’ ‘private - jet- boasting ’ lifestyles of most Naija men of God today. Joshua lives simply, drives simply, dresses simply, talks simply… he is hands- down the most humble , generous and unusual man I ’ve met .

The first time I met T .B . Joshua ( without him knowing I was into a journalism and without my asking) , he gave me N 10, 000 for ‘ transport’ . Where I lived only needed about N 500 to get there ! There was no condition attached or surreptitious motive at play . That’s just the type of man T .B . Joshua is
– a good giver. Ask anyone who knows about SCOAN and they will tell you the same. That’s why I termed him unusual . Such attitude is so rare to find in Nigeria that the insinuations and connotations you arrived at in the light of what he offered you last Sunday are completely understandable.

Don’t think I am naïve ! Of course, the money offered by Joshua to you and other journalists last week was certainly influenced by the situation on ground . However , it does not change the truth that this has been Joshua ’s habitual practice – not only to journalists but to anyone he meets .

Don’t judge by my perception alone – ask anyone who has met him and has not left with some form of blessing . Besides, what facts are really there to be ‘covered up ’ by this ‘ bribe’ in an international incident of this magnitude ? The money, either received or rejected , didn’t change the facts that the media reported.

I could say a lot more but I ’m not here to preach. I am just positing that there is more to T. B. Joshua than could be appreciated on a first encounter in a challenging scenario.

My candid advice is to take some time to watch Emmanuel TV , even if you consider yourself ‘unreligious ’. Watch the man , listen to what he has to say over a significant period of time and in the light of such , arrive at your conclusion. After all, for over 360 South Africans to take the long journey to Lagos , ignoring the fears of Ebola and Boko Haram , show he certainly has something worth looking at. That’s just my two cents .

Ihechukwu Njoku, a member of the church’s media team, told News24 Nigeria that the guesthouse building was initially two floors but the church had submitted papers to add extra floors to government agencies for approval. He added he was not sure whether approval had been granted before construction work commenced, and declined to comment further.

No approval

However, government officials who spoke to News24 Nigeria said they did not give Scoan approval to add additional storeys to the original plan.

Abimbola Animashaun-Odunayo, general manager at the Lagos State Building Control Agency, said the collapsed building only had approval to be a three-storey structure.

She noted that her agency had sealed off the building a few days before the incident but the church ignored the concerns expressed by the agency and continued working on the building.

She was, however, evasive on what action the government would take should the church be found responsible. She said she would not want to pre-empt the outcome of the investigation and structural integrity test being carried out on the building site.

There is a law which allows the state to take control of any collapsed building, but Animashaun-Odunayo said the outcome of the various tests will determine the action to be taken by government.
