In 1996 a book come out from a prosperity praecher Jim Bakker after he could left the jail.

Following a 16-month Federal grand jury probe, Bakker was indicted in 1988 on eight counts of mail fraud, 15 counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy.[6][12] In 1989, after a five-week trial which began on August 28 in Charlotte, the jury found him guilty on all 24 counts, and Judge Robert Daniel Potter sentenced him to 45 years in federal prison and a $500,000 fine.

Jim and Tammy Bakker were divorced on March 13, 1992. On November 16, 1992, a sentence reduction hearing was held and Bakker's sentence was reduced to eight years.[4]:104

In August 1993, Bakker was transferred to a minimum security federal prison in Jesup, Georgia, and was subsequently granted parole in July 1994, after serving almost five years of his sentence.[4]:116, 130 Bakker's son, Jay, spearheaded a letter-writing campaign to the parole board on his father's behalf, urging leniency.[4]:106–115

His Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) number was 07407-058, and he was released from BOP custody on December 1, 1994.[16]

On July 23, 1996, a North Carolina jury threw out a class action suit brought on behalf of more than 160,000 onetime supporters who contributed as much as $7,000 each to Bakker's coffers in the 1980s.

The Charlotte Observer reported that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) still holds Bakker and Roe Messner, Tammy Faye's husband from 1993 until her death in 2007, liable for personal income taxes owed from the 1980s when they were building the PTL empire, taxes assessed after the IRS revoked the PTL ministry's nonprofit status. Tammy Faye Messner's new husband said that the original tax amount was about $500,000, with penalties and interest accounting for the rest. Notices stating the IRS liens list still identify "James O. and Tamara F. Bakker" as owing $6,000,000, liens on which Jim Bakker still pays.
Bakker has renounced his past teachings on prosperity theology, saying they were wrong. In his 1996 book, I Was Wrong, he admitted that the first time he actually read the Bible all the way through was while he was in prison, and that it made him realize he had taken certain passages out of context — passages which he had used as "proof texts" to back up his prosperity teachings. He wrote:

The more I studied the Bible, however, I had to admit that the prosperity message did not line up with the tenor of Scripture. My heart was crushed to think that I led so many people astray. I was appalled that I could have been so wrong, and I was deeply grateful that God had not struck me dead as a false prophet![17]

In 1998, he and Lori Graham were married. Bakker released another book that same year, Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse ISBN 978-0-7852-6987-8, and, in 2000, he published The Refuge: The Joy of Christian Community in a Torn-Apart World ISBN 978-0-7852-7459-9.

The value of this book is that it is brief, easy to read, and well written yet it manages to deal with the major errors in prosperity teaching in an effective way. I pray that this book will be widely read by those who think that these teachings properly fall within the broad range of “Evangelical Christianity”. I pray that we would take up the challenge that the authors give us to go to the Bible and understand what God has said about these issues so that we might be more knowledgeable about how to understand these issues. I pray also that many who are followers of these prosperity teachers would be led to look carefully at what they are being taught and believe. I gladly recommend this book. I have also a book about healing it is written in german from a doctor who look at healings what we call miracel healings and it shows that sometimes the body can heal himself and that it has nothing to do if you are a christian or not. I got it from the University library here in vienna because it is out of print.

I think the above quote happened to Hagin. He was a honest man who was wrong and decided to correct the wrongs when he discovered them thankfully before he passed on. A lot of the 'prosperity gospel' crooners of today have their consciences seared with hot irons and dead. They know the truth but will never admit it so they don't lose the gains of fraud and crookedness.

How do you explain the fact that for 3 years of attending WOF churches, I never heard of 'Midas touch'? I still buy books from LFC bookshop in my city(bought unmerited favour by Joseph Prince and a book on selling by Brian Tracy there some weeks ago) but I've never set eyes on 'Midas touch' there even once despite the number of Hagin books on display?

I grew up a Christian but began to see some irregularities that I could not condone. My late sweet mother who passed on in May 2014, was a staunch Christian, very devoted and prayerful. I have real the same story, my mother and my husband died on cancer. my mother was like your mother she has hope till the end. My husband has also hop till his end because I didnot tell him that I got the message that he will die, that was about one year before and it comes in the night I was out with my dog for a walk and it comes like a flah from the sky, but I stay strong and didnot told him about this.

I was justing skimming through this thread and intended leaving, until the bolded caught my attention.
You did raise a very interesting question, as a firm beliver in miracles I do believe that the power/gift to heal is given by God as a sign to accompany witnessing/soul-winning. To validate the message of the gospel, not for medical reasons. Remember not everybody who seeks healing from Men of God receive their healing, that alone is proof that the gift cannot be turned on and off like a light switch. I hope this explanation has been of help to you.
