To all may be concerned. I withdraw my December call on bull. The ngx has its political angle as someone who uses street analysis. The evil days are already here and can consume anything in the nation. This is what u get from a failed government. Today is Niger state.
COWARD!!!

As far as I am concerned nothing dey happen. Increasing my Zenith bank stake by 30%.

Banks shares respond more to dividends than they do to p.e or book value.
I am not sure if access will pay any dividend this current year and if they don't pay it will be a long journey unless we have a general bull run again.
The money I put in Access today is less than half my transaction cost for my Zenith Bank purchase. I did it just for fun hence I used Bamboo. If I make money I will do something nice with it. If i don't then I turn long term investor.

Anyway lets see how it goes

''Long-term'' or ''short-term'' is relative
From now up to January 1is more than a month, so it is still something that may require some patience.
Some traders may not want to hold for that long.
If one month is long term then the person better go open account on bet naija

The market dynamics have since shifted.
I am only looking to buy sugar at sub 50 and Aradel at sub 600.
The banking index is looking scary for me.
I was in gtb few days ago to do a transaction and the bank was operating fine. Nothing to fear. Index will do what index do. The real world business will do it's own things

Blessed are those who yield to the "Spirit" (note: caps, singular)
You may have to to explain the "spirits'' (plural) asking you to punt. grin grin grin
But Access Bank is solid if one can buy and hold for long term
There is nothing long term in this play. This stock will be trading 30% higher before Jan 1.

This is a purely speculative play. I didn't even use up to 1% of my portfolio. Just trying to entertain myself 😜

The thing wey dey burst my head be say as market dey fall people are actually afraid. So people will rather buy a rising Access bank at N30 than a falling Access bank at N21. Even though its the exact same bank and the exact same earnings/dividend.

This game should be outlawed. its just too predictable

You believe this is the bottom....+ve
You have some cash.....+ve
You don't want to deploy it......-ve

So what are you still waiting for EXACTLY? Just curious
I have some cash, about 3% of my portfolio size. I don't plan to use it to invest but if the market chooses to get silly in terms of prices then I will gladly use it to buy lower. So if for some reason Zenith goes below N50 I will invest the money knowing that the panic is getting a bit wild. if it doesn't and it hovers around current levels then I will use my money and enjoy my life.

Hope that clarifies things

Bear never start. Where is the bottom?
We might not see an immediate rally but look at valuations in the banking sector. Zenith bank with no forbearance issue, no fx over hang, audited 6 month results that can be trusted is trading at a p.e of like 2.5, access in the same situation is trading at a p.e of like 2. My brother if this market like make e do wetin e wan do. Valuations in the banking are screaming only one story and I am very happy to hold at these prices.

I am not bullish on the rest of the market but with regards to the banking sector I don't see us falling much further. Then again I am not investing with house rent or chop money so I can wait a very long time

So pls, what do you think is responsible
In the short term markets move up and down. In the long term the trend is usually in the direction of the economy.

Crypto is down, foreign markets are down, there is a general downturn.

So there doesn't need to be a reason even though the press will always find a reason in order to get viewers/readers

I strongly feel this 30% level of CGT will chase away investors.
If you struggle to make profit government will divide your profit by 3 and take one part.
But if you make loss you are on your own.
This has nothing to do with CGT but you guys keep up with that narrative, its interesting to watch.

By the way, using percentages is your own preference, I don't think you need to force everyone to prefer it too.

People choosing not to use actual figures should be because of their own security concerns not cos you prefer it for whatever reasons.

If someone has a portfolio of N2bn, you say you make 400% returns and I say I make N1.5m returns, which do you think would intimudate himhuh

The N1.5m would be like a rounding error amount to him, whereas your 400% might make him feel like he's failing or not doing enough.

What if I yet share the amount but it was just N23k , would you have still been bothered? I think you should just adjust your own mindset and leave the matter. your preference is just your preference not the standard.

@nosa2
When you use numbers you run the risk of creating a toxic culture.

I personally know a few very rich people and not one of them would publicly state their worth.

People who go about flaunting numbers tend not to be rich. They are either excited about the number or they are lying. Yes people can Photoshop portfolios.

One interesting thing I have noticed in this thread is that very few people post their trade as at the time they make the trade. They always come and state of I did this and this is how much I made. If you can't post a position as at time of entry what's the point posting when you exit.

Anyway what do I know, for all I know I could be speaking to a 21 year old person smoking weed in his university hostel

Lots of time I see a dumbness in some people's reasoning:

You're 30, someone else is 50 and they show you their portfolio worth N2bn you feel intimated.

That's dumb.

Such comparison is apples to oranges.

You compare your portfolio at 30 to their own portfolio when they were 30 or you compare their current portfolio to what yours will be at 50 (adjusting for inflation in either case)

You've been in the market 5 years and you expect to match someone whose been there for 20 years. To what end??

Even if you're 50 and only have N10m, how about people who are 50 and can't even afford rent? How about your own good health.

If you don't learn to appreciate your own good things but instead fixate on others' achievements, you'll just keep robbing yourself of real joy which you could have enjoyed life with.

At the end of the day? Money is just some instance of an integer class in some database that allows addition and subtraction operators. Don't overrate it. It has its relevance, but also has its limits in significance.
It takes the same amount of effort to make 100% return with a N10k portfolio as it does with a N10m portfolio.

What I never understood was why people use numbers rather than percentages when stating their returns.

I've probably done 400% return on my portfolio year to date this year. This could mean I've turned 10k to 40k or I've turned 100m to 400m. Either way the effort used is the same

1.5m is not money to brag with in a forum where the average portfolio is in hundreds of millions.

Your context on the conversation is limited.

If 1.5m is what intimates you, you're on your own.
average portfolio 100s of millions? ok na

Good job my brother
There is always money to be made whether in bull or in bear. Just that the probability of making a profit is much much higher in a bull. Again, we are still in the bull albeit volatility has increased. Increased volatility is a precursor for market downturn. A three year bull will not fall flat on its face in one month. It is gradual grin

Your method is good for the level of risk and exposed capital. I am not chasing 20m profit
What is it with people and posting their portfolios. You can state profits in percentages and not act so crass. Its almost like this "money" dey shack people

Its not about being right or wrong na. We are all here to make money. I don disagree with oga Agba on practically all my buy decisions since I returned to the NGX but I still value his "wrong" analysis. He forces me to double check my theories before I buy. So to me his "wrongness" is very valuable
