Nicolas Cage as Aragorn in Lord of the Rings In a recent interview, Cage revealed that he was offered a lead role in Lord of the Rings, but he ended up turning it down. So which Nicolas Cage Lord of the Rings pairing almost happened? Cage revealed that he was offered the role of Aragorn, the part that ended up being played spectacularly by Viggo Mortensen in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy. So why didn’t he take the role? Cage explains: “There were different things going on in my life at the time that precluded me from being able to travel and be away from home for three years. “ https://du6l63ab8aufc.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/29002408/nicolas-cage-wants-you-to-know-that-he-was-almost-aragorn-in-lord-of-the-rings-640307.jpg Hugh Jackman as James Bond in Casino Royale Most actors would give anything to play James Bond, but not Hugh Jackman. He declined to be considered for taking the part of 007 around the time of the first X-Men. Later, the actor told the Hollywood Reporter that he had turned down the role out of fear he would get typecast and that it would limit his opportunities in the future. Of course, he ended up taking the iconic role of Wolverine, as well as several other genre-spanning roles, including his Oscar-nominated turn in Les Miserables. https://du6l63ab8aufc.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/29002802/jackman_bond.png John Travolta as Forrest Gump Though it might seem unimaginable in retrospect, John Travolta was actually the first choice for the titular character of “Forrest Gump” – not Tom Hanks! https://du6l63ab8aufc.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/29003139/gump.png Mel Gibson as Maximus Decimus Meridius Mel Gibson’s portrayal of William Wallace in “Braveheart” makes the decision to offer him the lead role in “Gladiator” understandable. As we all know, the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius went instead to Russell Crowe. https://du6l63ab8aufc.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/05020228/melgibson.png Sean Connery as Gandalf “Lord of the Rings” producers tried to lure Sean Connery to the role of Gandalf, but he did not understand the role. https://du6l63ab8aufc.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/05020015/gandalf.png Nicolas Cage as Shrek Though it is hard to imagine anyone but Mike Myers voicing the central character of the “Shrek” franchise, Nicolas Cage turned the role down because he didn’t want to voice an ugly character. https://du6l63ab8aufc.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/05015900/shrek.png |
The husband of Moira Smith, a brave Irish American cop who died while repeatedly running back into the World Trade Tower Two to help those inside on 9/11, has returned her Glamour magazine’s Woman of the Year award after Caitlyn Jenner received the same award earlier this month. James Smith, also an NYPD officer, said when he heard the “Keeping up with the Kardashians” and “I Am Cait” star had won the award he yanked his wife’s off the shelve and FedExed it back to the magazine. Moira had been honored with the Glamour magazine award in 2011 posthumously. In a scathing open letter to Glamour, James wrote “I was shocked and saddened to learn that Glamour has just named Bruce Jenner ‘Woman of the Year.’” “Was there no woman in America, or the rest of the world, more deserving than this man?” Smith wrote. “At a time when we have women in the armed forces fighting and dying for our country, heroic doctors fighting deadly diseases, women police and firefighters putting their lives on the line for total strangers, brave women overcoming life threatening diseases . . . the list of possibilities goes on . . . is this the best you could do?” Jenner (66) was presented with the award at Carnegie Hall last week. Among other honorees were Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon, tennis star Billie Jean King and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. Caitlyn Marie Jenner (nee William Bruce Jenner) is a former US gold Olympian and returned to the limelight appearing on E!'s reality television program “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” She is currently starring in the reality show “I Am Cait,” which focuses on her gender transition. A spokesperson for Glamour magazine said “We were proud to honor his wife . . . in 2001, and we stand by our decision to honor Caitlyn Jenner. “Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards recognize women with a variety of backgrounds and experiences.”
