Imagine one of them saying we should claim to be from Ghana when we get to Kenya, lol,can you imagine that? When my people in countries like Germany can confidently claim to be from Nigeria and be loved for having jay jay okocha, whom the Germans love and know, and other Nigerians are breaking grounds everyday and been celebrated for who they are, as the most educated foreigners in the U.S, or as musicians featuring U.S stars etc. So l support forgiveness, we are all for mutual learning, but when you read some of these Kenyan comments you can't help but deviate once in a while.

Many Kenyans, Ghanaians and South Africans really seem to have very bitter and terrible views and expressions of Nigeria. And seriously, things like this are very provocating and hypocritical, because many of these same people are always seen worshipping Nigerian entertainers, copying our cultures and identifying with many things about us.

However, i think we must learn to control our emotions. Let us just take them as erring younger sibblings who will never understand the struggles of the senior sibbling.

Many Nigerians have terrible views about other African countries, but we will never express such views in a bitter or detrimental manner (unless if provoked), because we are too focused on our primary issues and problems.
So i really wonder why other Africans enjoy ridiculing and mocking Nigerians with no just cause (when they themselves still have so much dirts at their backyards to take care of).

@Forgiveness, i see no reason comparing Nigerian and Kenyan cities. They are all developing. None has perfected anything.
See Mombasa has a better inter-city rail network, while PH has a better intra-city rail network.

The Standard kiswahili dialect taught in schools from day 1 has its antecedent in the dialect spoken in zanzibar, called KiUnguja. The proper name for Zanzibar is Unguja. In all there are about 17 dialects of Swahili, and the congolese one is among them, and is referred to as KiUngwana. Its very refreshing to hear them speak it ,and remember at least 1/2 of Congolese speak it, so it must have its due attention.

The development of strains in languages is nothing new. Geographical separation can and does cause changes in accents and vocabulary. You yourself said here ghana hausa is different from Nigerian hausa. But its still hausa.

Maghrebis speak their own local arabic dialects which are very different from the international arabic, but nevertheless, almost all educated maghrebis speak and understand international standard arabic fluently. That's my point.
Kano hausa dialect is the official hausa dialect and almost all Hausa speakers can understand and speak it. Educated speakers can write it (Although, Zaria/Kaduna dialect is seriously challenging it).

So, do Rwandan and Congolese swahili speakers speak and understand the international standard very well?

You guys keep saying half of Congo speaks swahili, but from all the online and physical facts i see, only 1/4 of Congo speaks it. Where is the mix up coming from?

Congolese swahili is as distant and strange to a kenyan ear, as british english is from singapore English. You can tell its swahili right but the meanings are as far as Everest is from Kilimanjaro.
Example:
Congolese swahili:twende kunyama. (Meaning lets go and eat)
Kenyan (and general standard swahili):Twende tule.
Congolese swahili : Place/situation: Fasi.
Kenyan swahili: Mahali.

Use in a sentence:
Congolese: Twende fasi kunyama. (Lets go to a place to eat).
Kenyan: Twende mahali tule.

Strange, isnt it?

Ok, why then did it evolve so differently. I think there should be an international standard swahili which all swahili speakers should conform to, if not, the language would end up becoming bastardized as it spreads further.

I was once in Dar es Salaam and at 7 pm during the early evening newscast in kiswahili(all channels), the Tanzanians were all glued to the no.1 kiswahili 7 o'clock news channel called Citizen Nipashe from Kenya.They dont like their own news channels. I mean,its just the other day i learnt that this popstar kid called Justin Bieber is a Canadian!!!You don't hear canadians bragging that they are dominating American music, do you?

Kenyans are dominating economically while Tanzanians are dominating socially and in entertainment (from the perspective of the average non east African).

Justin Bieber is based in USA. 50% of his worldwide fans are Americans and not Canadians. Any Canadian entertainer who must gain worldwide popularity must use the American platform. Drake, Carly rae jepsen and many other Hollywood stars are also Canadians.

I know abuja does not have much high rise buildings too but there is strict building policies within the city centre proper that why you hardly find irregularities in building pattern in the general view of the city.but that can't be said of the ghanian capital that y it keeps growing inefficiently and as of port Harcourt I have never been there I doubt if it was than accra .we are talking of the capital of a whole country witnessing massive growth through repatriates returning home to build at will due to the peaceful nature of the country.

i think i might be using the wrong words though when i said 'penetrating', because musics from other African countries can be hardly heard in public in Nigeria.

What i think i was supposed to say was 'familiar'.
Many Nigerians (young music lovers) are very familiar and are definitely fans to the likes of Casper nyovest, AKA, Mafikizolo, e.t.c from South Africa, Diamond and Vanessa mdee from Tanzania and Sauti sol from Kenya. Our own artistes feature them in Nigerian musics and vice versa.

Take this South African music KHONA by Mafikizolo and Uhuru for instance, this song heavily penetrated Nigeria in 2012, and yes it was played in many public places. I myself even became familiar with the song after hearing it in many public places in Nigeria.

Here in kenya, they are just a slow sorry bunch who cannot exploit their natural mineral resources. Well, it is very obvious that you guys are wrong. Tanzanians are very reserved, calm and easy going people, so they dont have the luxury of exchanging words or arguing with anyone.
However, can't you see how almost all Nigerians here are saying the same positive things about Tanzanians?

The style and class of Tanzanians is radiating from East Africa down to west Africa and we are connecting with them more than Kenyans. Their entertainers are dazzling us and winning our hearts gradually.
TZ entertainment will become very rich if they can succeed to fully penetrate Nigerian market. The only problem seems to be swahili language barrier.

the only reason why it's seems lagos and abuja are developed beyond accra is that accra is too far spread out ad growing inefficiently.if there were tight city boundaries people would have been forced to build high rise buildings which will have given it a total different outlook and be rated very high.
coming to accra you will think town planning is nonexistent.

Abuja and Port harcourt do not have high rise buildings, but you can still appreciate them.

PH city is worse than Accra in terms of spread, believe me. Unlike Abuja which has a master plan, in PH and other cities in Nigeria, people are allowed to build anything almost anywhere they like. For instance, PH originally occupied 1 local govt area, now it occupies about 5 or 6.

Kimani had just stated out her career in Kenya. Being new, she was doing reasonably well and would have been further had she stayed. I think the move changed her style abit, and disconnected her from her audience. But am not a fun of such music generally so my opinion may be generalized.

Kimani said it herself in an interview that Kenyans do not appreciate entertainment as much as Nigerians.

She has achieved a greater fame in Nigeria and is now a force to reckon with in Africa to an extent.
Sorry to say this, but apart from Sauti Sol, i don't see any other Kenyan entertainer as a force to reckon with in Africa.
Khaligraph jones is coming up though, he is yet to have fans outside East Africa.

Nigerians just know that their artistes are the best in Africa.
I would say South African artistes are penetrating our market more and are more popular in Nigeria, followed by Tanzania and Ghana, Kenya comes last with Sauti sol being the only Kenyan artistes most Nigerians know

The regional gov't of Oromo use the Latin alphabet. They see the Geez Fidel(alphabet) as there past oppressor(Abyssinia) writing system.

The Oromos say, they had been opposed particularly by the Amharas after Menelik expansion, but they had done the same or worse to the Amharas and others during their population movement from mid 16th century to early 19th century.

Personally, i think Amharas should consider adopting the latin script. It would make it encouraging for outsiders to learn.

This is Eldoret, our fifth largest town in terms of population. Jay has posted the photos of Thika on this and ther previois page, which to me is more charming than Eldoret.

He is only posting tourist sites and attractions in some so called towns.

Kenya has very few cities. You can't really call an urban settlement of very few people a city. A city needs some population, social and economic life.

Okie about the darkies..personally i feel like Nigerians has a problem with dark color . Ok Yorubas are dark (in kenya we have the Nilotes) ,igbos are light (in kenya most of the bantus are light ) an hausa/fulani look kinda somalis in a way( We got ours here)..we add the swahili who look like arabs .We also have Arabs whites indians among others...
My personal observation is that Nigeria does not have many visitors from other countries apart from Africa continent..so seen a white skin for most is a shock so the obsession with light skin...i might be wrong buuuut..

Americans and others are very fond of this a lot. To them, individual African countries are very insignificant to specifically note. So they just refer to Africa as one entity.

60% of Kenyans are ethnic bantus, the largest ethnic group in Kenya. Kenyan bantus are not phynotipically disimmilar from the bantus in the other countries in Africa say Zimbabwe or Tanzania or Zambia or SA.

15% are cushites, they look just like the cushites in Somalia or Ethiopia or Eritrea...
.they closely resemble the Nigerian fulanis to me.

20% of Kenyans are nilotes, the second largest ethnic group in Kenya. Most are dark, like those Kenyan athletes u see on the racing track, but noy all them really. They vary im complexion from dark to very light skin.

Then we have the asians, arabs, europeans, the halfcaste....


So, by stating that Kenyans are "USUALLY" dark, based on the athletes u see on tv or the masaai cattle harders is a total misrepresentation of the fact.

U have a very strong point here.

But we, or let me speak for myself, i watch many Kenyan musics, movies and news to see what Kenyans look like. I think you guys on average are darker than Nigerians and Tanzanians. But the margin is not so much.

Europeans or other outsiders will see no difference, so i don't think we should be making a big deal about it.

What i do observe most times is style. Many Kenyans (both men and womeng really do not appear very stylish, classy or dope to me compared to Nigerians and Tanzanians.
