Have you joined any Whatsap group for Nigerians in Calgary? The one I belong to definitely have a party planned for this season. Send me a PM and I'll see if I can get the admins to add you to the group. But do that quickly if you're interested as vacant spaces fill up quite fast in the group. Cheers!

Hi esterella
I am interested in joining calgary whatsapp group.
Just sent you a pm

If cars will be on your soakaway, ensure the structural components of your soakway can withstand this. Will the slab sit on blocks or on beams and /or columns? I prefer the the latter anyways.

You will need between 7/8 lengths depending on the spacing

Thank you so much boay..

The slab will be sitting on beams and columns not blocks.

Thanks alot.

How will u know he is on track when u are not into construction? How will u know he is using right mix ratio? Just get someone competent & relax.
Is he taking the tank stand to foundation and cast it, or is he going to bolt it to reinforcement?

Ok but at least let me have an idea.

He is doing a foundation for it casted with reinforcements. 2 feet below ground level, with another layer of slab above ground level

About the tank scaffold..

I went to a building where one was done.. the tank fell off from the top of the scaffold. It was a two storey building somewhere in sangotedo after ajah. The scaffold was quite high.
Luckily the tank fell into a bare land just adjacent the building. So no injury or life lost..

So i am trying to get all the information possible to be sure he is on the right track.

Please guys i need your input.

Happy sunday

Engineers and expects in the house, i have two questions to ask...

I made this water tank scaffold recently. It is 4inch galvanised steel pipe and it is meant to carry two 1500 litres tank.

1.)Those of us in lekki/ibeju lekki who have constructed this type of scaffold. I hope its holding. Any long-term issues...?

2.) How would the foundation be. My Engineer recommended 2ft into the ground and a slab above ground surface. Is that how it is done.

Abeg make una assist me before scaffold go fall o.

Thanks chief.
Since there is a consideration on cost, regular emulsion would suffice if it isn't applied too thick.
For smoother look with soft sheen, you can ho for matte emulsion.

Hon. Gbadexy thanks for coming through. how much is the normal emulsion and the matt emulsion for 20 litres.

I hear this days there are brilliant white paints dedicated for POP ceilings. Gbadexy abeg clarify.

I wanted to do the regular emulsion since its ceiling but am not sure of the outcome.

You’re displaying your ignorance online madam, and boldly too. It’s embarrassing.

are you sure you read her post well before jumping to conclusions.

from my understanding, she meant she wasnt sure you can travel illegally, (maybe through fake visas and all), that ppl travel through short stay visas(i.e. tourist visas or student visas) and overstay then automatically becoming illegal or undocumented.

Abeg spyder I need your take on this

How many bags of cement did you use in plastering this building, internal and external
I have a similar project of lime 8rooms..4bedroom duplex and twin 2bedroom flats, all in under one roof,
As I write, they have used close to 200bags of cement for the internal alone.

Abeg what's your take on this... is this not outrageous??

Hello bros

I knw you probably did your plastering as far back as 2017. Please can you remember the number of bags of cement used for plastering. I am presently erecting a similar structure, I am plastering at the moment the amount of cement being consumed is alarming. I am very sure the cement are not leaving the site...I want to be sure it's not wastage. This is a huge headache for me I need your help just to be sure we are doing it right.

My great ppl in the house,

I am about to do POP and screeding for my building. I am looking for a good rate. For both contractors here and clients(homeowners) please I need your help.

How much is the current rate.

Is this rate negotiable?

Which would be more economical, buying my materials or paying for both Labour and materials

Thanks

Autos / Re: Innoson, A Car Manufacturer Or Just A Company Assembling Cars? by Nozzle(m): 12:19pm On May 13, 2019
The automobile industry is huge!!!
Let me spell it out to you again..it's a monstrous industry.

Toyota is the biggest by sales and production volume. It started in Japan, but they don't have all the plants in one place. Some part of Toyota are just strictly assembly, some will produce transmission, they might source for sensors with Motorola etc. While tesla makes it's own software for its EV, its dashboard screen hardware is made from LG or Samsung
Toyota has a stake in Kia or Hyundai. Which produces some of its parts for its US or european. That's how it works...you can't have it or do it all.

It is an inter-dependent industry, same for the aeronautics industry. The airbag for most of this cars are made by a company called takatar. The design specialist for tesla was from Honda or Toyota I can't remember.
So there is nothing wrong for innoson to be just an assembly plant for now. It has cemented its name in as a member of the global auto industry. It is left for other companies to spring up and start with other aspect of the industries. Like producing tyres, sensors, transmission, airbags, panels, brake pads, brake disc. Headlamps, control modules, AC systems etc.

But africa is still very laid back, we have alot to do. There is no single African indigenous car company that has broken into the market like innoson,. If the govt gives him half of the support dangote has been enjoying all this years, other companies would have sprung up by now. Innoson will cover the African market in no time.

So there is nothing wrong in just being an assembling plant... if innoson were to produce all the parts of his cars here in Nigeria including controls and software, trust me it will be more expensive than a bentley!
We don't have any of those raw materials and the requisite skills in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. That on its own shoots cost of production to the roof.

guys, i have some question to ask about plastering...

from the angle of a client..

1. is rain a big concern during plastering, is it ok if i go ahead with it. Carpenter has already told me the bamboo scaffold which is already in place gets weak with too much rain. i am a little worried especially for safety reasons and their outcome of the job.

2. Please i have still not settled with a labour for my plastering yet, besides cost of labour, i have a few bricklayers who have come around for the job but i have not been able to verify their skills yet. And i know some of them will try to reduce their cost just to get the job, but may not be able to deliver to my taste.

so, please i need a good bricklayer, who is affordable and good. if you know anyone

AFFORDABILITY is key o !
planning on starting work next week

God bless you all
Car Talk / Re: 14 Fun Facts You Should Know About Toyota Camry by Nozzle(m): 8:24am On May 13, 2019
Used my 2007 camry (muscle) since 2012...oh Lord! The emotional connection I with that car is unimaginable. I just dont see myself selling it. It's so reliable....(the engine must start shaaaa) though its center of gravity is low, shocks too can be an issue but that's generic for all cars on Nigerian road. Overall the car is safe and reliable. No much drama for dashboard or not much styling like it's Honda counterpart but I can trust a camry on the road any time any day.

Great product sells itself.

There has to be a standard for labour pricing, so we dont under-price workers and over-price clients. Funny enough there are more supply of labour in lagos than anywhere else, yet our prices are still roof-high.
@goodfaith,

i sent you a pm.

i have a project in ibeju lekki that am about to plaster, a 4bedroom duplex and a twin 2bedroom flat. i try to avoid labour from that lekki/ ibeju lekki axis, from experience , so i decided to cross water and get one from ikorodu. when the guy give me bill, i was in shock!.

1.65m internal external and fence!!. (i am pretty sure he saw the size of the building and ofcos the building was in lekki/ibeju lekki axis)

i told him if i see any client give him that kind of money for plastering, i myself will go and learn how to plaster. after a month he is begging for 700k! i still feel i can get it cheaper.

we grind hard for this money.

see contractors trying hard to defend outrageous prices!!!
even some clients too are justifying outrageous prices they paid for plastering so they dont feel bad!
The truth is lagos especially lekki and environs prices are overhyped! simple and short!
contractors and workers are so spoilt in those areas. The funny thing is everyone is a contractor, even the masons and carpenters...nothing like daily pay! its terrible.
Some body is telling you in benin he paid daily rate and got it cheaper and plastered the same house you plastered in lagos with your entire life savings! you all are still arguing.

You will cast the soakaway with concrete and sink it into the ground as shown in the pictures below.

Note:It must be plastered before sinking.

Thanks alot oga segzy,

How about the dimensions, the engineer was suggesting it doesnt have to be so deep we could increase length and breadth,

Please how deep can we go in areas with high water level.
Properties / Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Nozzle(m): 3:50pm On Apr 26, 2019
My gurus in the house,

I have seen alot of construction of soakaway and septic tanks, the materials needed and dimensions are quite clear, but i want to find out how you guys go about soakaway and septic tanks in water logged areas like ajah, ibeju lekki. i have a small project somewhere around awoyaya axis, my land is not on swamp, but obviously not far from one. So i am not sure what type of soakaway to construct, i am getting mixed opinion at the moment.
i want to be clear of about the dimensions
will hollow blocks work? or i will have to do a concrete slab with beams for all corners, how about solid block ?
how deep can i go?
can i manipulate the length and width to make up for the depth, is that standard ?

mentors...educate me!
