Oresof: Is this a good car? Is it easy to maintain? Aren’t parts readily available? Any Nissan sold in Europe is well built and very strong, Nissan Xtrail is a very good car. Nissan Xtrail is easy to maintain as it is more like an elevated car, it comes with automatic not the CVT and it has manual too. Parts look all around you if you see primera, Sentra, serena, Almera, sunny you already have you parts engine, shocks, gear is shared with this vehicles. |

VolvoS60: ^^^ Don't know much about the CR-V but I can say a little about my experience with the 2008 RAV4 (Euro Spec, 1AZ FE engine).
Engines are strong and durable, if slightly underpowered. If properly maintained (oil changes done when due) they are trouble free. Transmissions (AISIN) are also quite strong. Stick with (OEM) ATF to avoid trouble. Transmissions may heat up occasionally during high speed, long distance driving - prompting a warning message on the dash. Park the vehicle and let it cool down for a while and it'll be fine. Electric steering racks seem to have a tendency to fail. 4wd models are more than equal to the task in poor road conditions. In its class, only a few models (from other car makers) can match the RAV4 in muddy or sandy terrain. However, failure to monitor fluid levels in the rear diff. and transfer case can lead to premature failure. Expensive to repair or replace. Fuel economy is average in its class. Using low viscosity oils and regularly cleaning the fuel lines, fuel pump assembly and injectors helps a great deal. Electricals/electronics are top notch. Trouble free. Suspension is average - firm ride with quite a bit of road noise. Tyres can be expensive to replace (225/65R17). Regular servicing of brakes is essential to avoid problems with calipers. Cooling systems are also strong and generally trouble free. Stick with OEM coolant to avoid problems. Struts and shocks are not as strong (perhaps because 4wd models carry a little more weight) so they may need replacement sooner than later. Rotors also need replacement quite often.
Summary - the RAV4 is a durable car. Running costs are moderate to high, depending on the model and history. If running costs and reliability are key for you, you may want to consider a Corolla. I found the Corolla to be better in these areas. Please don't ever mention RAV4, CRV, Element, Ford/Mazda Escape/tribute together with 4WD those systems are nonsense to the core, they are just 4WD in paper in practicality they aren't capable. The only real 4WD of that segment is the Subaru Tribeca and Volvo V70 |

HeavenlyBang: This thread will be something of a diary for my car. I've always wished more people detailed their car ownership experiences online in Nigeria, so this is just an attempt to be the change I want to see.
It will contain info about my more long-term gripes about the car, encounters, maintenance and fixes, expenses, etc. Basically should give anyone who's looking to buy one of the VQHR a cars a good idea of what to expect, especially since I've gotten tons of emails on updates. How far with that opeke in yellow, she reminds me of a Lamborghini Gallardo, can I get her digits? |

kingreign: You didn't specify the year model of the RX, is it RX300, RX330, RX350, RX400h or RX450h?
I'd take an RX over an ML any day any time. More reliable and less prone to break down. My RX is 5.7years old on its factory paint, factory everything other than Oil, tyre and brake pad and recently, steering rack leak which I have fixed. second generation RX facelift with 3.5L 2007 model. |

Maxiyke: Car enthusiasts and gurus, please what are your take between a 2013 Infiniti JX35 and a 2013 Toyota Highlander? It has always been hard in the luxurious segment between Infiniti and Lexus from time immemorial FX vs RX, QX56 vs LX, M vs GS, G vs ES etc, I know the for a fact the Infiniti always stay tops. The JX35 now QX60 is a luxurious car the Highlander holds no chance against in the luxury segment. Now the engine challenge 3.5L V6 2GRFE (268hp but Toyota says it's 280hp I am skeptical about that) and 2.7L i4 (187hp) vs VQ35DE 3.5L V6 (265hp) The JX engine is the award winning VQ which is not questionable started around 2001 and very popular in several road Worthy Nissan vehicles Nissan stopped it in 2004 for a 4.0L engine but had to go back to it in recent models because of it's reliability and capability in tweaking. The Highlander inline 4cylinder is popular and reliable too and the 2GRFE is also a good engine. Interior Wise No competition here, the JX wins with alot of luxurious standard equipment from Navigation to part assist, lane assist, memory seat, HID Xenon, heated front seats, power moon roof too plenty to mention. The JX is a very scarse road vehicle I have only come across one in 3years it shares part with same year Pathfinder infact it is just a very luxurious Pathfinder to a degree. I did say from the challenge the JX is a better vehicle than the Highlander due to its careful body design, reliable and cheaper engine option, good interior finish and a host of safety and luxurious feature in-cooperated. The Highlander isn't bad if you intend to maintain the status quo of common vehicle and easy access to parts in Nigeria. |

prizequest: Nice pinpoints. can you atleast give a rating 1-5 regarding: 1. design/build 2. fuel consumption 3. interior 4. entertainment equipment 1. Both are pretty in good condition and well taken care by the owner, the Benz black interior seats blends perfectly with the tan interior panels. 2. Lexus is better, has more hp, faster off the line but Benz handles better and has more top speed. 3. Interior I give it to the Benz, more leg room, sporty and comfortable seats, good head room well distinct dash with well placed control buttons. 4. The Benz belongs to my OGA he only plays radio for news or shuts it down completely. The Lexus sound system reminds me of my bro home theater. |

prizequest: Car enthusiastics and gurus, if you're left with 2008 lexus Rx350 and 2008 Mercedes Ml350 what comparative advantage will guide your pick? Make a case for your preference. I have been in both though a base model of the RX, I don't think anybody who can dole out 5m for a car would have issues when it comes to part replacement. I would certainly without no doubt pick the ML350 because I like the turning radius, it's Mick sporty appearance, the position of the gear knob and besides it's a Benz so luxury is unquestionable. |

Oresof: Hello please I’m trying to buy a new mini suv and my options are between the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. I have spoken to two top mechanics and they have both given me opposing views. One is for Honda CR-V one is for Toyota RAV4
What do I want in a car? I don’t want stress. I don’t want to be fixing one thing every other month. I just sold my Kia and it showed me pepper. I need a break from constant trips to the mechanic. Which of these cars would give me less stress? Which is easy to maintain? Which has cheaper parts? Please let me know. I don’t care about appearance of the car just functionality. Like I said I really just don’t want stress anymore. Thanks! carry your money go and buy Nissan Xtrail and forget the location of your mechanic shop. |

Greenarrow01: Pls what can you say about 2007 Dodge Charger. The spare part might be an issue I guess it shares part with Chrysler 300C and Dodge Magnum, though the 300C is more than and charger is more common than Magnum. Parts may be scarce and when available may be tagged high in price. I don't know much about the charger though other than it is very big, I mean it really showcases it's Nomenclature (muscle car). the 2.7L or 3.5L engine is ok, the 2.7L is under powered for a V6 but the engine should be available as it's been used by some funny Dodge cars. The 3.5 too though more recent. The 5,7L HEMI would really put a Dodge to the charger if fuel consumption isn't of worry V8s are very well built only negligence on owner/driver part can cause failure. I doubt if you would get the 6.1L engines those are for hard core enthusiasts and they were made in limited number safe to say it may be out of your reach |

Rickpapi: Cc: Nurey, Heavenlybang, Gazzuz, autojoshnig.
So I’m purchasing my first ever car..I’m not very good at driving yet, hopefully when I get mine by this month end I’ll perfect my driving skills...
I’m actually purchasing an ES330 as I’ve always wanted that baby..So here comes my first question...
- Nigerian Used or Foreign Used? I’ve heard people complain about foreign used car giving them problems in even less than 6months and same about Nigerian used. Money isn’t a problem here, I just want something that’s very neat and won’t start bothering me too soon..Some people say Nigerian used as long as I go with a competent mechanic.. What’s your take?
-Secondly What daily maintenance would have to carry out, to ensure it stays in good shape...
-Also I hear people giving advice on scanning vehicles before changing parts. Who does the scanning? My mechanic? I know this is weird but it’s my first car, so please pardon me.
-I’ve had friends whose cars starts fading after one year, especially silver color and that’s the color I plan on getting, so how do I avoid that? I heard car wrapping can avoid fading? How true is that? And is it advisable to cover my car with that cloth used in covering cars? I plan on covering the seats too with those seat cover as I intend using the car for a long time before changing it and I want it looking like new still
-And I’d like if I can get a few do’s and don’t that is important to someone who’s buying his first car, for example I’ve learnt it’s not advisable to let these car wash guys pour water into your engine.
-I’ll post more questions when they come to mind
Thanks.. Please, help a brother.. I love maintaining my gadgets just like I’d maintain a woman I love. you just jam pack everything together but let me answer your questions as simple as I can 1. Yes the ES330 is a good car shouldn't break a bank on maintenance 2. Due to our harsh weather, the painting on cars would fade as time goes by, but you can reduce this by not using powder soap or all those local soaps (vehicles have specific soap for washing), you can also wax the vehicle to give it that shinning look. I personally don't wash my car I just use water and rag and I am happy after all only my opinion counts. 3. When a vehicle is faulty it gives sign, but above all it gives sign on the dash (called check engine light) scanning is just a way to retrieve code to know exactly what is faulty in the car since an abnormal symptom can be caused by several car parts and you don't want to change all those parts. 4. Used car is used car and parts aren't meant to last forever when the parts would fail nobody knows and nobody can determine just set aside some cash for shocks and bushings they are first to give way after tasting our road surface, then tyres too for safety. lastly you can register with Gazzuzz and sons Nigeria limited they do accept your model year, they can assist with prepurchase inspection, they do service and maintenance too then finally he can always help you scan and repair when trouble starts |

biggysmall44: Good morning bosses,
Please I want to know which is better btw Honda Accord 2010/11 and Toyota Camry 09/10 in terms of maintenance, reliability, fuel consumption and all.
Both i4 engine.
Thank you Both are pretty close in comparison the Honda though has a better interior finish than the Camry. Also Camry is known as robber magnet though seems the trend has died down. The accord comes with alloy wheels as standard while Camry offers alloy as optional. power, reliability, fuel economy are pretty close. Be weary of the AC compressor of the Camry it fails and pick 10 to 11 Camry with the 2.5L, 07-09 had a 2.4L which isn't bad but should be avoided if you can. |

What about the gear system, how expensive are they to replace..... Does it come in strictly AWD or does it have the FWD variant.... 280hp for the fx35, it comes in RWD or AWD the gear is solid though and shouldn't be that expensive, should be same gear in Nissan 350z, G35, M35. |

The expensive parts am talking about is body parts door panels, headlamp and tail lights, bumper, grill etc. The complete headlamp for both sides tokunbo used to be around 120k like 5years ago and vandals do steal it just like they steal Corolla brainbox |

winner915: Guys good evening and hope y'all well, happy new month by the way.
Pls, a wholistic comparison between infinity FX 35 2004 and Honda pilot 2007.
My reason for this is the fx35 in recent times have been incredibly cheap and almost same as the pilot......both toks.
Pls, respond.
Shalom! Fx35 is a CUV I would say basically an elevated car with bigger interior like a fullsized luxurious sedan, don't be fooled by it's concave ameoboid shape it's got room for passengers both front and back. The VQ35DE has 280hp with all that weight, the FX is quick off its feet. The suspension are soft so off-road,bad roads you did feel it in the cabin. The dash screen has got warnings well illuminated and also acts as an OBD scanner. Experiences minor electrical glitches but you did be fine as long as you use only 100ah battery. The FX is way ahead of it's time. The Honda pilot Touring EX-L with Nav is the closest thing to the FX, funny enough the J35 in the pilot is a little more fuel efficient than the FX in city and highway. The 3.5L of your year has 244hp yeah it isn't as fast as the FX the pilot is a solid off-road capable vehicle, the FWD varariant though could be a slouch. Maintenance- I will give it to the pilot parts are cheaper and don't fail you also don't need a technician with PhD degree to fix it Fuel economy- Depends on where you are coming from though the pilot has better MPG but 1L difference to me does cut it this is a tie. Reliability- Pilot, less techy, straight forward build no hanky panky. Resale value- The FX has an upper hand, it's getting rear on road could be a classic in few years time. Verdict- The FX though a Nissan and with Nigerian mentality about Nissan's I did say is the best choice if severe off-road isn't needed and area of driving it is posh not ajangbadi, okokomaiko, ajegunle where other insane road users can easily bash or steal it's parts (yeah the body parts are expensive) the vq Engine is cheap and readily available. The pilot is not a bad vehicle, I would pick it to blend in and enjoy top notch reliability |
