Please kindly help with the mechanical advantage of it. Both are the same model year, it now depends on what region yours came from to determine what engine they are both packing whether 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 or 1.8 |

ojeysky: Okay thats super cool, i do 1L to 11km on my Yaris and certainly much lower than that on my 1mz highlander. By the way what body is your 1mz engine carrying? an SUV or Sedan? Toyota sienna 2000, if your Highlander is AWD then you shouldn't expect something close to the sienna. only the fwd Highlander or RX has identical fuel economy. Also depending on what 1mz you have whether it's vvti or non vvti then ofcourse any highway speed greater than 90km/h don't expect anything close to manufacturer stats. manufacturer stats for highway is between 60 to 90km/h |

Car Talk › Re: Advice Please - Honda Civic 2006-2008 by nurey(m): 6:56am On Jul 08, 2019 |
tensazangetsu20: Yeah but the little details are most times changed in the engines and in important electronic modules. I had a client with a German made BMW F10 it's a 523i and I have been looking for some parts brand new (I don't want the scraps sold here) and it's been hell. He was lucky some of the sensors we needed the part numbers matches the American 528i but the other items we couldn't get. I also worked on a Japanese spec Honda accord a few weeks back and I couldn't get the brainbox anywhere. The American brainbox would start the car alright but the engine isn't running right. I notice most of the cars sold at the dealership though are directly from their countries of manufacture. For example a BMW sold at coscharis would be made in Germany likewise a mercedes sold at weststar. The issue isn't with body parts. It's with engines and other important components like electronic modules. I understand you now the mistake you made was generalising the issue. People are bound to have parts issues depending on cars bought. Cars that aren't popular in Nigeria you will find issues with sourcing some particular replacement part in the local market. It cuts across every brand e.g European Corolla 1.4L engine, Honda jazz, Infiniti Skyline (Japanese Homebrew G35) etc |
Car Talk › Re: Advice Please - Honda Civic 2006-2008 by nurey(m): 6:45am On Jul 08, 2019 |
tensazangetsu20: You misunderstand me. When I refer to American specifications, I am not talking of American made cars I am talking of American specifications of those car models listed. Even if there's an issue where you can't get a car's part here in Nigeria its always easy to import if the car is an American spec car compared to if it's European or Japanese. Besides most of the parts sold in the Nigerian market are scrap and 99 percent of the time do not work. If no be say I like Ichigo I for send 10,000 Hollows come your house for spiritual beating. have your heard the word "The world is a global village" Manufacturers have dropped the habit of "one off vehicle" and embraced "platform sharing" so several different cars share same platform only about 30% parts differentiate them (body panels, front and rear lights) |

tensazangetsu20: Get the American spec. Even if you cant get parts in Nigeria it's always easy to import from the USA. Never buy an European or Japanese spec car here as getting parts for it will be a problem. You must be kidding right? The Civic Asia has parts available The Corolla bank type is a Japanese market variant and parts are bound in the market Nissan sunny is Europe version and parts aren't scarce Toyota avensis is purely European car and nobody has complained of not seeing parts Nissan primera, Micra are European cars and parts Boku Toyota Hiace and Hilux weren't available in US and parts are available in Nigeria. But jeep liberty, Hummer H2, Dodge, Cadillac are all US vehicles and parts aren't available in the market. This is to say your ascertion is wrong |

I need advice from people who use Civics please. Top is North America should be imported as tokunbo in Nigeria so ask for custom duties Second is Asian Pacific should majorly come into the country as brand-new units should have dealer certificate stating custom exercise was paid. both are ok but the second is more common in Nigeria |

dannywest: I'm thinking of upgrading my car and I'm down to the following two options:
2008-2011 Honda Accord 2003- 2008 Volvo XC90
I used the accord for a few weeks when my car was bad and liked it, I also like the XC90.
I'd like to know, 1. from experience what's the best variant of either of the above vehicles? 2. What is the cost for replacing engine and transmission for them (usually the biggest single expense) 3. What are common issues?
I maintain cars well (used my last 10 years straight and you won't know) and I rate comfort and drive experience above fuel consumption. Both vehicles are good choice options. I don't know the prices of the gear or engine because no one on NL has asked for them, I believe the several engine variants and gear of the cars are good. common issues. Accord- Experience the leg pull but extremely rare onlike it's predecessor. Ignition lockdown, the key would refuse to turn like the steering is locked but the ignition is actually worn, just pour ATF on the key and insert it would work but you need to change the teeth or have them realigned. VOlvo- Don't buy the T8 engine had a factory error with gear type fixed which causes gear failure. Other engines with turbo are good but with turbo ensure you use recommended engine oil and you need a qualified technician to fix. If you have children always cross check interior lightening and exterior lightening because when the car is locked it doesn't automatically switch off all lights left ON (not a Volvo only issue I have also seen Highlander behave that way my sienna on the other hand switches of all electrical left on once key is removed) Both vehicles do sport leather and Nav screen, Volvo nav screen should have incorporated other useful info, it's a hidden type of nav screen that pops out when needed. Not all the Accord have nav screen though there is a secondary small screen that has information on it. The Volvo is available with AWD and it's stance is a solid tank stand, body doesn't fall apart and not susceptible to rust as it is well guarded underneath with plastic protectors. The EX and EX-L accord are the top of the line trims with all the bells and whistles of a luxurious car. |

VolvoS60: ^^^ To each his own...I have seen some of those videos too.
Some of them seemed rigged. The only ones that seemed fair to me were the tests conducted by Russians - coincidentally it was only the Volvo Cross Country? that made it in one of those videos that I can remember.
Strike out Audi? Even though I'm definitely not an Audi fan (apart from their styling), the history of 4wd (at least in passenger sedans & wagons) is incomplete without Audi getting at least an honourable mention.. Yeah we can agree to disagree. Volvo 4wd is solid, the video I watched wasn't doctored it was around 1hour I used to have those videos when I was NFA but not anymore alot of cars were tested most of those CUV and wagons with AWD failed woefully some couldn't get their cars forward when the 2front wheels were placed on the ram not enough power was transferred to the rear |
Car Talk › Re: Honda CR-V Vs Toyota RAV4 (2008-2010) by nurey(m): 8:07pm On Jul 06, 2019 |
VolvoS60: ^^^ Worked for me...
I know that the leaders (in no particular order) of 4wd are Audi, Subaru and Volvo but I found the RAV4's system to be competent - more than competent actually.
Of course there are limits to how far the RAV4 can go. For the purists, it isn't a real 4wd - after all, it doesn't have low and high range. But it got the job done for me most of the time - in beach sand and deep mud. If anything, the real problem with that car was the limited ground clearance and not the 4wd/AWD system.
Without going into the jargon of comparing viscous couplings and Haldex clutches and all the other stuff - i'll say the RAV4's 4wd is a basic system that delivers well for the money. I am just letting you know anybody wey dey buy those vehicles should have in mind he is buying them for ground clearance. and please strike the Audi from your list No 4WD system comes close to Subaru then we fit add Volvo and then landrovers some of those 4WD systems been touted by manufacturers are sometimes very limited. I have watched videos testing these different systems and a lot failed, Highlander, Audi S60 the video is available online |
