Yea, you lot saying there are not much Hausa/Fulani peeps here should remember that this is not an Al-qaeda or boko haram forum. Try conducting a poll on any of dem sites and you'll be amazed at how many of them are computer literate. my 2 kobo. |
Why not base it on States of origin? |
With numerous complaints by various people here about their ethnic group being left out, I think it would be proper to start a new poll based on States of origin This should take care of everybody. Just my 2 kobo |

He is well respected locally and nationally, and he has the ear of President Goodluck Jonathan. However, the ambition of Bamanga Tukur to become the next national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing the toughest opposition from the most unlikely quarters – his own family. Sources told NEXT that Mr Tukur, a former governor of old Gongola State and head of the African Business Roundtable, is facing quiet but insistent opposition from some family members who feel that the septuagenarian is usurping the chances of his own children who have ambitions of their own. “They just think it was time he stopped running for public office so they could run themselves,” said a close family source who does not want his name in print. “His children particularly think the state would not nominate them for appointment into any high office when their own father is already being considered for the national chairmanship job.” One of the sons, whose name was originally on the list submitted by the state chapter of the PDP for consideration for minister or board position, was particularly unhappy with his father’s chairmanship bid. He told friends that the development may have jeopardised his chances of becoming a minister in Mr Jonathan’s cabinet. “He said if his father were not so keen on pursuing a job at his age, the state would have submitted his (the son’s) name for appointment as minister. But now he would be lucky to get a lowly board membership job,” said the family friend. Mr Tukur, 76, has been in public service for nearly 40 years and has a formidable curriculum vitae. He was general manager of the Nigeria Ports Authority in the 70s, leaving in 1982 to contest elections and becoming the governor of then Gongola State (comprising present day Adamawa and Taraba States) in 1983. His tenure lasted all of three months when the Muhammadu Buhari coup terminated that republic. He has also been minister for agriculture, and industry; presidential candidate of National Republican Convention; former member of PDP board of trustees; Chairman of Africa Practice group; Executive President of African Business Roundtable; and Chairman of NEPAD business group, among others. “Regarding my pedigree,” said Mr Tukur in a recent interview, “the records speak for themselves.” Family sources, however, say it was high time he left the public stage for his children, many of whom have already acquired the knowledge and the experience to keep the Tukur name flourishing. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5735370-146/story.csp |
To many who do not know him, Ashley Olusegun Oshin, cut a picture of a decent Nigerian making an honest living in the United Kingdom. But for those who know him too well, the CEO of Ashosh Group Services is actually a crook who has ruined the life of many Nigerians wishing to relocate home sameday. A popular face in the social circle in the U.K, Ashosh as he is popularly called is seen as one of the upwardly mobile Nigerian in the Queens country with a deep pocket. No party is complete without his presence even as popular gospel artiste, Yinka Ayefele sang his praise to high heavens in one of his albums, a glowing testimony to his affluence. But Ashosh’s proclaimed wealth is actually hinged on a phony debenture scheme ostensibly designed to dupe unsuspecting Nigerians who wish to own properties in their fatherland. According to The Premier’s investigation, Ashosh is at the centre of a fraudulent scheme worth 1.4 million pound (N350Million). Ashley Olusegun Oshin, a Nigerian but British-based businessman had allegedly told the Nigerian community in London through a well publicized promotion in the U.K. media that he was involved in a debenture scheme which could make them acquire and build properties at home while still leaving abroad. Many Nigerians in the U.K. fell for the bait as they felt that the manner of its presentations in the media suggested that it was a credible project as they were told that there was no risk involved in it. But unknown to them, the reason the debenture was introduced was because Ashosh Group needed a substantial capital which it could not get from the bank and this was why it asked Nigerians in the U.K to invest in it as it promised a 40 percent interest for the first year and if it continued after a year, the interest would be reduced to 15 percent. Ashosh Group also promised they were willing to allow a customer cancel his or her contract with them at anytime provided the customer gives a seven days notice after which 100 pounds would be forfeited on the amount deposited. The company which claims to be a property consultant back home in Nigeria had collected various sums of money from unsuspecting Nigerians leaving in the U.K for properties scattered across Lagos and Ibadan. Sadly, none of the depositors has taken possession of the property while the company has failed to refund their money. http://www.thepremiernewsonline.com/articlereader.aspx?newsid=gdeefjcaffehdghfaa |

An Ikeja High Court on Thursday ordered Deji Abiola to be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N35.5 million fraud pending the filing of the bail application to be heard at the next adjournment. Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo ruled that the second son of the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, M.K.O Abiola be re-arraigned in court on June 30 on a one-count charge bordering on conversion and stealing preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The commission had alleged that Mr Abiola collected N35.5 million sometime in 2008 from one Babatunde Jose, under the pretence of importing printing machines for him from Switzerland, while he was alleged never to have supplied the said machines to the complainant and had converted the money to his personal use. The charge against Mr Abiola reads in the charge sheets: "Deji Abiola on or about 21st day of May 2008 at Lagos within Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud knowingly and fraudulently converted the sum of N35,550,000 (thirty five million five hundred and fifty thousand naira) property of Hamza Babatunde Jose of Irede Property and Investment Company Limited," and cite that the alleged offence is punishable under section 390( (b) and (9) of the Criminal Code Law Cap c17 Vol.2 laws of Lagos State 20003 .Chasing shadows At the proceedings, EFCC lawyer, Omeiza Adebola asked the court to compel Mr Abiola to take his plea and be properly arraigned; pleading that the matter had been before the court since September 2, 2010, insisting that the charges should be read to the accused person. The accused's lawyer, A.B. Kasumu, however, objected to his arraignment arguing that they were just notified about the process and that the accused, who had been enjoying administrative bail, granted him by the EFCC, had come to the court of his own volition. He also urged that Mr Abiola should be granted sufficient time to consult with his lawyers before taking his plea as guaranteed by the right to fair hearing. "We cannot take the plea today because an accused cannot take plea without advice from his counsel", Mr Kasumu argued and asked the court to grant his client bail or remand him in EFCC custody pending the filing of the bail application to be heard at the next adjournment. The accused person could not take his plea before Mr Onigbanjo due to pleas by his counsel for time to study the charge. Consequently, he adjourned proceedings to Thursday June 30 for arraignment and consideration of the bail application, while he remanded the accused person in EFCC custody. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5721039-146/story.csp |

seanet03:Riots: Ohakim evacuates stranded Ndigbo from North on APRIL 24, 2011 · · in NEWS BY CHIDI NKWOPARA OWERRI — Hundreds of Igbo families, including youth corps members, stranded in parts of the Northern states as a result of the recent post election violence have been flown back to Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, SMICA, Owerri, Sunday afternoon. The flight arrangement, which was put together by Governor Ikedi Ohakim, has been described as “a rare show of love and magnanimity to people in distress”. Speaking exclusively to Vanguard in Owerri, Governor Ohakim said he did not limit the evacuation of the distressed families to Imo indigenes alone, pointing out that he regarded every life as very precious. He said: “It is evident that so many families were stranded and distressed as a result of the post-election crisis in parts of the Northern states. What my administration has tried to do is to ferry them into safety. Life is precious and inalienable.” According to the governor, no fewer than four big aircraft, owned by one of the local carriers (names withheld), had been arranged to fly Ndigbo from Gombe airport to Owerri, adding that vehicles had also been dispatched to parts of the country to bring people home. “I call on all Igbo whose friends and families were stranded in the North due to the post-election violence to come to Imo airport Sunday (yesterday) to welcome their brothers and sisters,” Ohakim said. One of the returnees, who simply identified herself as Ngozi, was full of praises for Governor Ohakim for saving them from the trauma. “People at home who did not experience the violence may not fully appreciate what the governor has done for us by bringing us back into safety. God bless the governor,” Ngozi prayed. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/04/riots-ohakim-evacuates-stranded-ndigbo-from-north/ |
