PoliticsNigeria’s Oil Output Hits Five-month Low At 1.48 Million Bpd by NwaNimo1(op): 6:41pm On Jul 09, 2021
While the combined oil output from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies rose in June, Nigeria posted the heaviest drop in crude oil production as the country faced significant operational issues.

The group, known as OPEC+, added 540,000 barrels per day of crude in June to a market hungry for oil as summer kicked off, according to the latest S&P Global Platts survey.

Nigeria produced 1.48 million bpd in June, its lowest level since January, compared to 1.55 million bpd in May, the survey found.

Some of the country’s large oil fields, especially those in the Niger Delta like Bonny, Escravos, Brass River and Qua Iboe, were said to be pumping well below their full capacity due to either technical problems or maintenance.

OPEC’s 13 members pumped 26.19 million bpd in June, up 480,000 bpd from May, mostly due to Saudi Arabia’s continued unwinding of its voluntary extra production cut.

The group’s nine non-OPEC partners, led by Russia, produced 13.27 million bpd, a rise of 60,000 bpd from May.

Despite the production gains, higher quotas for the month meant OPEC+ compliance was at 110.16 per cent compared to 111.45 per cent in May, the survey found.

PoliticsNURTW Vice-chairman, Samuel Kayode Shot Dead In Lagos by NwaNimo1(op): 6:23pm On Jul 09, 2021
Samuel Kayode, a.k.a Ekpo Kinkin, the vice-chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has been shot dead in Lagos.

Kayode was gunned down around the Agboju area of Lagos.

He was attending the flag off of APC’s local government campaign at Oriade Local Development Area, on Thursday evening.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Mr. Valentine Buraimo.

While the meeting was ongoing, gunshot was suddenly heard in the crowd.

This led to the crowd scampering into safety.

Ekpo Kinkin was later found in the pool of his blood. The bullet reportedly hit him in the leg.

The NURTW executive was rushed to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Navy Town, Ojo, where he was confirmed dead.

NURTW in Lagos State has confirmed the incident.

“He was protecting a fellow politician, Wale Yusuf, from harassment when the gunmen shot him dead,” said Jimoh Buhari, the spokesman for the NURTW Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya.

The Lagos State Police command, however, has not yet made any comment on the incident.

This is certainly not the best of times for the Niger Delta Development Commission, as its corporate headquarters in Port Harcourt, was sealed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service. grin

Although the reason behind the sealing could not be immediately ascertained as some staff of the commission seen outside the gate declined comments on the development.

Our correspondent, who visited the NDDC headquarters located at the Marine base axis of the Rivets State capital around 11:10 am on Friday observed that the main gate and adjoining walls had over nine stickers with the inscription, “sealed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service.”

A security vehicle donated to the police was stationed opposite the main entrance, which carried the bold inscription ‘sealed’.

A resident, who simply identified himself as Peter, told our correspondent that the seal was discovered when the staff of the interventionist agency were reporting for work.

Peter, who said he runs a business near the complex, describe the development as a shock, saying most workers returned home after waiting in vain to gain entrance for hours.

“We saw this seal on Thursday morning when the NDDC workers were coming to work, the situation caused confusion, many workers left while some waited around
