I see Game, Shoprite, Standard Chartered.....where are the Nigerian multinationals Nwoke was talking about? Too bad you can't sell Dangote cement in malls.

Dangote is still in Tanzania.. Tanzania tried to get 16% of Dangote's assets in Tazanaia for free. Dangote never built a factory in Kenya

Ah I see you you haven't heard of Nigerian multinationals especially our banks..

GT bank
UBA
Access Bank
Zenith Bank
Union Bank of Nigeria
Diamond Bank

Some of those banks are even in Kenya... Guess what, they're black owned

We even have our own indigenous telecoms company that's multinational like MTN: It's called Globacom

Let's also not forget Jumia that's also in Kenya

Recently our tech companies are also going multinational

When it comes to Nigerian multinational companies, most of them are either banking or manufacturing(especially cement)

Just a day ago,
Earlier the Tanzanian High Commissioner underscored the presence and positive roles of Nigerian firms in his country, particularly in the manufacturing and banking sectors
Also,
The Tanzania envoy further conveyed the appreciation of the President of Zanzibar, which is a semi-autonomous region within Tanzania, to President Buhari for the deployment of 41 Nigerians teachers in the region under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) programme of Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said the teachers are doing very well and appealed for the deployment of more Nigerian teachers to Tanzania.

Source for both quotes: https://www.channelstv.com/2018/06/07/nigeria-to-strengthen-economic-ties-with-tanzania/

I wonder why Tanzania isn't asking Kenya for teachers... hmmm

Nigeria even has an aid program for lesser developed African countries, to send teachers to them...

Nigerians, feel free to add more multinational Nigerian companies

Nairobi is twice Lagos Per Capita, I know you will refuse and denie as usual..

Let me break it down for you..

KENYA'S GDP currently is at $88b and Nairobi controls about 50% of that=$44b

Nairobi population is currently around 4.5Million people

When you make quick maths, Nairobi GDP per capita is over $10,000.

Twice lagos.

I found a source....

The report, however, dismisses the common belief that Nairobi, the capital, has the highest concentration of Kenya’s wealth – having clocked a per capita wealth of $1,081 to finish in eighth position, one spot ahead of Mombasa with a GDP per capita of $935.

The report puts Nairobi’s share of Kenya’s GDP at 12.7 per cent, dispelling the notion that the city accounts for more than 60 per cent of national output.
https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/news/Nairobi-ranked-8th-on-World-Bank-list-of-rich--poor-counties--/539546-2951310-uotkygz/index.html

this was not too recent.. this report was done in 2015...

Nairobi has a long way to go in competing with Lagos

Oyibo this, oyibo that? Somalia and Nigeria are failed states, what can you teach us? What can alshabaab and boko haram teach us?

That's why Nigeria has the richest black man. That's why other African counties thank Nigeria for sending teachers to them and even beg for more teachers.. That's why other African nations want Nigerian investments (especially cement).. The other day Tanzania was asking for more companies like Dangote to be established in Tanzania

I don't see Somalia having the richest African.. I don't see somalia sending teachers to other countries.. I don't see Somalia with multinational companies, .... etc

Things are bad in Nigeria but definitely not as bad as Somalia

Dude, fiber optic cables are in ALL counties of Kenya, even as far as Garissa and Turkana. They all have fiber optic cables. See the breakdown of which fiber lines pass where in map below. You can go to the site http://icta.go.ke/nofbi-transmission-network/ to zoom in and look for your favorite town Garissa.

Everywhere in Kenya there is fiber optic cables transmitting on average at the very minimum 13.7 megabits per second, twice as fast as the global average. Thousands and thousands of kilometers of fiber optic cables and this was done almost a decade ago.

Not just that, these days, the Kenya Power Co. (your nepa equivalent) is laying fiber optic cables on all new power transmission lines. Dude! Its called fibre-to-the-home services and is done via optical fiber cabling. Basically, the fibre optic cables are strung between the tops of all new high-voltage transmission lines combining the functions of grounding and communications. The Fibre optic cables are based on Optical POPGW cableilot Ground Wire (OPGW), with 48 optical fibres or cores. And the firm hopes to have this in all its power lines across the country.

That helps not just in connecting more Kenyans to high speed broadband internet but will also be a revenue to them but most importantly, will ensure that they can gather information about their power transmission systems, such as which transmission lines are in service, the amount of power being carried, meter reading at interchange points, and status of equipment and alarms all in real time. Your Nepa will need a century to achieve this kind of vision and efficiency.

https://www.ketraco.co.ke/learn/optical-fibre-cable.html

Nigeria doesn't have NEPA... It's been gone for some time now

One thing I've realized is, these Nigerians think every other African country apart from them worship the white man but in the real sense, they never realize it's actually them that worship the white man. They're the very ones who will credit every development in any African country to the white man.

Go to African business and economy news on skyscrapercity right now. They're talking about how South Africa would have never been advanced as it is if it wasn't for the large European influence.

In population, Yes. In development? not in this century.

Where was Shanghai or even China 30, 20 years ago? China was an economic backwater 30 years ago but today Shanghai is a major financial city in Asia and China is fast approaching super power status..

Lagos can become an African Shanghai or even Tokyo but facts remain it will take a long time, if the right steps are taken

The Forbes top 2000 companies in the world.China and the US dominated this segment.

In Africa,SA leads the park, Nigeria comes second with with two companies then Kenya with only one company.

South African companies in the list are;

1.Standard Bank
2.First Rand
3.Sasol
4.Naspers
5.Sanlam
6.MTN Group
7.Shoprite Holdings
8.MMI Holdings
9.Remgro
10.RBM Holdings
11.Bid Corp

The Nigerian companies are Dangote Cement and Zenith Bank. The only Kenyan company featured was Safaricom with an estimated market valuation of 11.1 billion US dollars.

Who is the real giant of Africa? Us Kenyans with only a paltry 88billion dollars GDP could at least get recognition with Safaricom which only operates in Kenya and it's profits coming only from Kenyans.

I really expected Nigeria to go neck to neck with SA but wow!they disappointed! I still think that SA is miles above Nigeria.SA is more richer than Nigeria and that's a fact.

400 billion plus GDP? Really?

The stats were no surprise, South Africa is a much more advanced, older economy than Nigeria, even politically and with more advances in infrastructure.. South Africa was also a settler colony... Without that much European influence South Africa most likely would have been like the rest of Africa..

Anyways keep expecting South African companies to dominate in the upcoming years... Nigeria will just have to play catch up... good thing we have the huge population to do so

The richest man in Nigeria is black because there are only blackies in Nigeria while SA is a multi-racial nation.Do you guys ever use something called a brain?

The majority of South Africa is black just like Nigeria.. It's been reported that Nigeria has 1 million Indians.. We have plenty of Lebanese too, as well as Chinese..

Virtually all your multinational companies are white yet the majority of the country is black... hmmm

You don't have to write just because you have that freedom, facts must always come first.

Currently the biggest retailers in the country are owned 100% by black Kenyans. Nakumatt went under.

If foreigners were the reason for the advanced retail sector, we have countries like Botwana, Namibia,Zimbabwe,Madagascar would have more advenced retail sector than Kenya.

In kenya you will find malls and supermarkets in villages, low to high income areas.

Which was founded first nakumatt or tuskys? It was nakumatt. But perhaps i stepped off the ledge about Kenya... But definitely South Africa's advancement is due to the large influence European whites had in South Africa. Some of the biggest African companies are South African, and they're white owned or founded but the majority of SA is black

The other day I tried to watch the very latest naija movies on utube to see if you guys have up your game but nothing, couldn't watch one for ten minutes..

most of those movies are even older movies that are posted as new..
Have you heard of The Wedding Party, The Wedding Party 2, The Ceo, Isoken, 93 days, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Banana Island Ghost.... etc

Just look up trailers of these movies, and you'll see how rapidly Nollywood is evolving... We're not there yet but I'm beginning to see the changes.. More higher budget movies are being made..

Many companies in the Kenya fail to identify their controlling shareholders. Take an example you mentioned Nakumatt. You think its owned by Indians but the major shareholder was one black dude called Mwau. The guy pulled his money out an now Nakumatt is going down…
Many black Kenyans own stakes in most of this companies but you guys keep on screaming white an Indians.

Truth be told. The richest ..an I mean the riches folks in Kenya are blacks. They don’t need to show their accounts but am telling you what everyone here knows. There are families who are billionaires in dollars but ya would hear about it

I don't disagree with blacks having shares... but the main concept i was talking about is that these companies were founded by foreigners, Indians in Kenya, and Whites in South Africa. Technically it's not bad, cuz in the end you guys have a more advanced system while countries like Nigeria will have to catch up.. But in the end it'll be Nigerian indigenous companies that will fill the space foreigners in Kenya and South Africa have done

Several Nigerian companies have been trying to crack the South African market, most to no avail...But as Nigerian companies become more competitive, richer, and continue to establish their presence in other African countries, soon Nigeria will crack the South African market.
Already Dangote has succesfully entered South Africa..

And they will claim the remainder of their kola-nut driven economy is nearly twice south Africa's!

You realize South Africa is a much older economy than Nigeria(i'm not talking about Independence) and is thus more advanced than Nigeria's although Nigeria has now the largest economy.. I mean take a look at sab miller, it was founded in 1895 in South Africa... Where were Nigerian companies at that time... virtually non existent... Plus South Africa has a large influx of foreigners.. this is why virtually all of multinational big South African companies are white owned

I could also use this example for Kenya... Kenya has a more advanced formal retail economy than Nigeria due to the large influx of foreigners in Kenya.. this is why stores like nakumatt are Indian owned

Nigeria has Stanbic IBTC(It was a merger between a South African and Nigerian bank)... Nigeria doesn't have pick and pay..Nigeria doesn't have jet mart, Golly where are you getting your facts..

Nigeria has several telecommunication brands.. MTN doesn't even control half the Nigerian market... It only controls 42%...

That's if other countries sleep through the time all those structures are undergoing construction and planning. Not to be skeptical but most of your projects are still in the planning stage. All countries have plans. In Nairobi alone there is Tatu City that's already under construction and Northlands city that is where Centenary City is right now. In Lamu the biggest port on the continent is under construction - I would advice not to base your arguments solely on what you see happening in Nigeria.

I am not talking about GDP per capita. I am talking about average income.
Now that you mention GDP per capita

Kenya = $1790
Nigeria = $1994

No big difference and considering your GDP per capita was more than twice ours five years ago, I can confidently say in the next 2-5 years, we'll be well ahead of you.

Considering that our gdp per capita has been dropping because of the recession.... Yea Kenya might have a chance, same as Ghana

Sad for Nigeria, because we've lost a lot of time. The IMF predicts Nigeria's gdp per capita will fall for 8 yrs.. South Africa's gdp per capita has also been falling because of recession.

Flase, I had a Nigerian classmate and he always used to moan how much power we give to our women. Nigeria is largely a misogynist society with lots of materialism. The one thing he loved about Kenyan women was a beauty and less materialism (even though Kenyan women are the most materialistic in East Africa, he said they're nothing close to the average Nigerian woman).............and please, just shut up with your financial power nonsense. Kenya's average income is higher than Nigeria's average income. Sometimes you speak your wishes and not the facts.

Like I told you, the only reason Kenyan men don't date Nigerian women is we don't find them beautiful. Take that to the bank. South African women are way more empowered than Nigerian women yet we have no problem dating them

If ur talking about gdp per capita, Nigeria is higher than Kenya
