I am not sure what you mean by East Africa - I think out English is very similar to Ghanian. Just watching that movie - you Nigerian really need to review your educational system - and re-learn English. The Ghanaian speaks PROPER ENGLISH - and your English is messed up by pidgin. And yeah English does matter as language of business and science.

What about the chinese... They're really dominating the business world, especially in Africa... yet they barely know English and and their accent is really thick

Most kenyans recognize that as problem and try to reduce that heavy mother-tongue interference. Nigeria wear it as something to be proud of. This to me points to a collapsed education systems - that produce Nigerians speaking some of most awful English I've heard spoken- and that deny many Nigeria opportunities - either abroad or internally. Talk about call centers/BPO opportunities that will never dare land in Lagos...where accent reduction is a nightmare.

Recently, Microsoft partnered with Tek Experts and opened its first Africa Customer Service Support Center in Lagos... What happened to Nairobi... Guess Microsoft didn't see nothing wrong in our accent...

wow this Abuja pictures you posted are really nice. Nairobi can't help it.
whatever

Yeah.. Abuja was named the 3rd most beautiful city in Africa by Africa Facts after Jo'burg and Tunis,Tunisia

Here's the website: https://africa-facts.org/top-10-most-beautiful-cities-in-africa/

Also an Eritrean ambassador to Kenya called Abuja the most beautiful city in Africa:

“this is my first time in Nigeria. I really wanted to visit Nigeria and it happened this time. I have heard a lot about Lagos and the Nigerian jokes. I am very happy to have come here. It’s the most populous; the most diversified country in our continent. And I think Abuja is the most beautiful city in Africa. Africa has many beautiful cities, but not as planned as Abuja, I don’t know about Lagos.

Abuja cannot beat NAIROBI in anything. Despite all the billion dollars Nigeria spent in building it from the scratch.

This is Upperhill - Nairobi's Sandton that was recently rebuild from middle class estate - within Nairobi

Nairobi old City Center.

Nairobi's Westland CBD also beat Abuja

Upperhill has bad roads... everything else is beautiful but dirty roads

Have you lived in Ibadan before or you just passed through. Can you mention the parts of Ibadan you know or you are basing your opinion on reports of these studies? The same studies tell us more Kenyans live in slums than Nigerians. But when you show them these reports they scream foul.
https://millenniumindicators.un.org/unsd/mdg/SeriesDetail.aspx?srid=710
According to that report while Nigeria's slum population % dropped from 77% in 1990 to 50% by 2014 Kenya's % increased to 56%. The report on Ibadan is from 2013 and based on 1985 stats. So my friend, a lot has changed although the dirty parts remain but many new areas keep springing up in Ibadan due to its immense size. Its not congested like Lagos or Nairobi. You should do your research well.

My brother i wasn't referring to all of Ibadan being a slum... i've seen some beautiful places in Ibadan... I was reffering to urban sprawl and old houses in some parts of Ibadan

How come countries like South Korea Taiwan are equally young yet far ahead. You know I always want Africa to develop but we are always giving too many excuses we can't develop. We complain we were colonized, our resources were looted, we were enslaved blah blah blah while other countries developed. We all know the only reason Africa doesn't develop is our own corruption, nepotism and lack of discipline. The day we will realize that and stop giving excuses we will develop within a very short time.

Mexico's gdp is around $1.046. Nigeria's gdp is $405, Nigeria isn't a third of MExico gdp is your math is correct. it's more closer to half of MExicos gdp.
All i was saying giving Nigeria development compared to Mexico, Nigeria is not so bad off compared to Mexico. Mexcio in some areas like secrity is shittier than Nigeria surprisingly...

You're not a half of Mexico's GDP lol. You're a third and your economy isn't performing so well for you to be that optimistic. Remember your GDP has been shrinking since 2015. Remember you had 8 times Kenya's GDP in 2015 yet currently it's just 4 times Kenya's. Speaking of age, I think we Africans need to stop using this excuse already - it's taking us further behind. One is challenged into asking - where were Africans those 200 years when other countries were developing? Did Igbos, Yorubas and Hausas just pop up 50 years ago? Nah. That's no excuse. China is China and Nigeria is Nigeria, let's not mix issues.

No one really kept track of gdp or percapita before colinalism or before countries formed in Africa...

Keep in mind before colinalism AFrica was mostly small kingdoms and villages... There was harldy "countries" as you refer to today... So yea Mexico was a country before Nigeria... Nigeria in comparison to Mexico has developed much faster than Mexico has done.. Yet Mexico is still shitty

Mexico HDI is 0.762
Nigeria HDI is 0.514

Do you know what HDI is and what it means? If you don't, google it then come and tell me the same things you're telling me. (Hint - Algeria and Seychelles, the countries with the best living standards in Africa have an HDI of 0.782 while Central African Republic, the country with the lowest living standards in Africa has an HDI of 0.352)

Both... Giving 200 years to develop Mexico should be way higher than Nigeria... America with its moe than 200 years to develop as well has the largest economy in the world... Even China that just really started developing is already beating Mexico

i mean Nigeria has only had 50 something years to develop yet we're only half of Mexico's gdp, and could catch up in a matter of a decade.. In a matter of years Nigeria would be among the top 20 economies in the world yet we're relatively young.. Plus Nigeria just returned to democracy only 20 years ago... Our democracy is very young

$376, $405 what difference does it make? It's still dwarfed by Mexico. (Nigeria's GDP has been shrinking, $405 is 2016 figure, $376 is 2017 figure)

You're talking of poverty rate and I'm talking of people living below poverty line. Poverty rate is subjective, people living below poverty line is absolute. Mexico's HDI is 0.761 which is actually of a country on the brink of joining developed countries. Nigeria's HDI is 0.514 - It's even lower than Kenya's and Tanzania's. I wonder what you're talking about.

All i see in Mexico, is a bigger economy(2x bigger than Nigeria's) thus with a bigger gdp per capita. But from what i see Mexico is only slighlty better than Nigeria... Keep in mind that Mexico is more than 200 years old while Nigeria isn't even 60 yet... Using your logic Mexico shouldn't even be where it is today... it should be competing with European countries and even America... Same with Brazil

Okay you want facts and not pictures right? Lets go.
Population
Nigeria - 186M
Mexico - 123M

GDP
Nigeria - $376 billion
Mexico - $1.25 trillion

GDP per capita
Nigeria - $1,994
Mexico - $10,021

HDI
Nigeria - 0.762
Mexico - 0.514

GINI
Nigeria - 43.0
Mexico - 48.2

People below poverty level
Nigeria - 60.9%
Mexico - 2%

Do you want me to continue?

Thank you then. I see now you see why it's laughable to compare Nigeria to Mexico when one of your largest cities is practically a slum yet the poorest city in Mexico, Juarez, is in better shape than your best cities.

I never talked about upper income. I talked about upper middle class. Read carefully. The houses you posted are awesome though.

So what i see is Nigeria's hdi higher than Mexico's( and both being close to each other).. And Nigeria's gdp being $376 billion... And Nigeria's gdp per capita being $1,994.... whereas a quick google search shows Nigeria's gdp at $405 billion and its gdp per capita at $2,177.99...

Then again a quick google search puts Mexico poverty rate at 46.2%
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mexico-poverty-idUSKCN0PX2B320150723

Even Nigeria's gini is similar to that of Mexico's according to your stats

The third photo is Jamaica
The last photo is Dharavi Slum in India.

You're trying too hard buddy. Please, kindly do your own research. Mexico is far ahead of any African country. I told you even South Africa can't compare to Mexico, leave alone Nigeria.

All i did was to type in low income areas in Mexico and pictures popped up... wasn't even trying, too easy

Mexico has supposingly one the of largest slums in the world...

NEZA-CHALCO-ITZA, Mexico

Seriously. We all know the kind of houses low income earners live in in Nigeria.

Like I said, don't just look at poverty rate - look at the definition of poverty in Mexico first. Mexico borders the US and is in North America, the definition of poverty in North America is not the same as the definition of poverty in Africa. When you talk of people living below poverty line (which is the constant African countries use) In Mexico it is less than 2% but people who are considered poor in Mexico are much more. Look at what they consider slums in Mexico for instance.

Now, look at where 'normal' Nigerians who aren't even considered poor live.

Which looks better?
Look at where low-income earners in Mexico live (Ixtapaluca)

Or these ones here in Atizapan

That is a solid upper-middle-class neighborhood in Nigeria. And did I tell you that the Mexico City GDP is larger than Nigeria's whole GDP? Now tell me is Nigeria really anywhere close to Mexico? Like I told you, even SA can't measure up to Mexico.

Now i can contrast and show you social housing built for low income earners in Nigeria

I'm talking facts you keep showing picture.
Well as for Ibadan which you keep referring to, I see it as a slum
This report also deems it as a slum
The intense crowding and subsequent deterioration of Ibadan’s inner city took place over a long period, closely linked to socio-economic change and limited municipal budgets. The, in principle, well-planned town thus turned into a slum. In 1963, half of the city’s core area consisted of slum dwellings, growing to 70 per cent of the town’s total number of derelict housing in 1985. Problems of illegal squatting, conversion of functions and extremely poor levels of service provision are compounded by the apparent lack of financial capacity and political will to upgrade such a large area. In addition, people strongly oppose resettlement due to their strong attachment to the ancestral lands.
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/dpu-projects/Global_Report/cities/ibadan.htm

I'm sure you'll be happy now

Upper income housing in Nigeria looks more like this... After all we do have the richest man on the continent

Dude, I already explained my case. Brazil has slums but I already showed you what a slum in Brazil looks like (practically better than your middle class housing). Like I said those countries are better than Nigeria. I didn't say they are all developed like Germany so yeah, they still have their own third world problems but they're better than Nigeria.................and I never said Ethiopia was more advanced than Nigeria. Perhaps if you focused and stopped reading posts with bitterness and bias, you'd understand a post better before you respond.

If these countries are doing better, it's only slightly. Mexico with its high gdp per capita compared to Nigeria has a poverty rate of 50%... Nigeria has a similar poverty rate i believe around 60%... I could go on and on.
Apart from Mexico and Brazil, Nigeria has similar gdp per capita with the rest of those countries.

The only country i duff my hat to is Brazil with it relatively low poverty rate at 8.5%, plus its way higher gdp per capita, and a big economy

Lost case for educating you on things you have no idea about? Lol.............aren't you the one who said no country with over 80 million people that was colonized is more progressive than Nigeria? The problem with stupid people is, you educate them, they grow horns and think they're better than you lol. I intended to type Philippines - For some weird reason I always tend to confuse Philipines with Malaysia, I don't know why. You can look at my initial post when I was listing those countries though - I mentioned Philipines. Anyway, in your typical evasive techniques, you ignore all the things I corrected you (Ethiopia not being colonized but occupied and proving to you that all countries with over 80M people that were once colonized are equal or more advanced than Nigeria) you choose one simple error to focus on. grin grin

See? You know no history my friend. FYI I happen to be a history enthusiast. Don't go their with me. Germany was colonized by the Roman Empire. Seems you read to respond and not to understand. I already mentioned that to you before.

The only desperate person here is you. No wonder you keep mentioning it.

The only person who should learn about Mexico is you. Give me one, just one area that Nigeria beats Mexico. Just because you hear Americans ridiculing Mexico in their movies doesn't mean Mexico is crap my friend. Mexico is better than even South Africa, leave alone Nigeria. The HDI of Mexico is 0.76. I am definitely talking to a shallow thinket who can't reason beyond women's fashion and handbags. lol. What kind of fool thinks Nigeria can minutely compare to Mexico? grin grin grin

There you go again my lord. FYI, let me show you what that 'one of the largest slum in the world' looks like then you can come here and talk to me about Nigeria comparing with Brazil. See that? Yeah - that's Brazil's largest slum in Rio de Janeiro. Look at the roads - you can barely find roads that clean in Nigeria even in upper middle class neighborhoods. The Rio Favela is where Michael Jackson did that 'the don't really care about us' song. In Nigeria it could pass for a high end neighborhood considering you don't even consider those dumpshits in Ibadan as slums.

One more fact - The GDP of Brazil's largest city - Sao Paulo is bigger than the GDP of Nigeria. The GDP of Rio de Janeiro is almost equal to Nigeria's GDP. So educate me now smart ass. FYI even South Africa can't compare to Brazil development wise. Educate me on how shitty Brazil is.

It's Philipines, not Malaysia. And non of those countries is shitty lol. Show me a city in those countries that looks like Onitsha or Kano or Ibadan.

That I doubt..............Nigerians die on a daily basis trying to get to other countries. One thing I'm sure of though, nobody from those countries would Fancy living in any Nigerian city.

Bro Philippines leave in droves from their country... Brazil has a huge security/crime issue going on(like Nigeria) and also has many slums. Many people from Mexico leave in droves to get to America.Mexico poverty rate is similar to Nigeria's at around 50%. Ethiopia is not as advanced as Nigeria, Ethiopia's gdp per capita is around $700 compared to Nigeria's which is around $2000. Vietnam is shitty as well(though getting better, they're the next China). Vietnam has similar gdp per capita to Nigeria at around $2000. Egypt has a gdp per capita around $3000. Many of the countries you mentioned are low income, low middle income like Nigeria, or high middle income. Those countries(like Nigeria) still have a long way to go. Brazil though is an outlier, it's one of the better countries.

I think you also forgot Indonesia with a gdp per capita around $3000

Influence is more determined on population size than land size. China is more important toady for it's huge population(biggest in the world) rather than it's land size. It comes into play when dealing with wars... The larger the population of the country the more manpower for the army...
America today is a super power and as well has the 3rd largest population in the world..

A larger population also means a larger workforce which can also translate to a larger economy... Just like Nigeria has a bigger economy than South Africa. Keep in mind Nigeria has to provide the infrastructure and political space to create jobs and utilize the enormous potential of its large
population, just like China has done.

Makoko is a slum in Nigeria just like you have slums in South Africa

You guys love excuses. Now you're crediting SA's development to white people and gold. Meanwhile you have oil which Kenya doesn't - why are you not ahead of Kenya? Johannesburg is still an important city to the world and still the richest city in Africa with by far the busiest Airport, best infrastructure, most skyscrapers, largest stocks exchange busiest roads etc. To make it simpler, Jo'burg is the New York of Africa.

South Africa's governance is relatively more advanced(that's where i credit the whites) than Nigeria's with the government being less corrupt. It really has nothing to with natural resources like gold or oil. I mean look at Southeast Asian countries like Singapore or South Korea who had no natural resources but quickly transitioned to a relatively prosperous society due to better, less corrupt government.

In Nigeria our industrialization and infrastructure improvement efforts have been sabotaged by corruption...

Yes, when it comes to infrastructure and governance, Nigeria isn't on South Africa's level, the whole world knows this. Nigeria still has some ways to go to improve its corrupt governance and dilapidated infrastructure. There's hope this will happen. If China can do this in 3 decades, Nigeria can as well. At best Nigeria will become a China in Africa being a huge economic giant while South Africa will become a Japan of Africa with higher living standards than Nigeria, both though being relatively prosperous, only time will tell
